We’ve always loved grabbing frappes from The Chocolate Lab on Stephen Ave until a recent visit left a sour taste. The barista working that day (white male with glasses) started off with a neutral attitude, but things shifted noticeably when my fiancé didn’t leave a tip. Suddenly, the drink was rushed, missing its usual toppings, and served without a straw. When my fiancé politely grabbed one himself, the barista gave him a look that made us feel like we were doing something wrong.
Even more disappointing was how he treated other customers arriving near closing time telling them to hurry up and making it clear they were unwelcome. It’s frustrating to see someone act so bothered by basic customer service. Tipping is appreciated, sure, but it’s not mandatory and it shouldn’t affect the quality of service. We’ve had consistently great experiences here before, so this was a letdown. Hoping management takes note and ensures all guests are treated with the same care, regardless of gratuity.
