Google
Food was amazing! I had the Ribeye Steak, very juicy, cooked so well and came with perfectly crispy chips. My partner had the haddock dish which was tasty. The sauce complimented really well with the rice and fish. The service was outstanding, they offered to hang our coats up in the cloak room and the staff was lovely. Overall would definitely recommend this place and I can't wait to come again.

Google
We had lunch at this place and were thoroughly impressed. The prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was inviting, and the service was exceptional. Our waitress Rosy was incredibly attentive, which made our experience even more enjoyable. The food was outstanding, bursting with a variety of flavors and textures. We’ll definitely be returning!

Google
Exceptional. Staff were incredibly attentive and all had excellent knowledge of the menu. The restaurant is only a short walk from The Circus, so you’re able to take in the fantastic site before dinner. I had the parsnip soup to start, a perfect blend of Indian styled seasonings and parsnip gave way to a perfectly spiced experience on the tongue. Then for my Main I had the venison pie. Very delicious and hearty meal. Essentially an incredibly rich piece of venison wrapped around light pastry. The accompany purée accented the flavour well. My only criticism is that it may be a tad dry, perhaps slightly more gravy/sauce in the pie itself would be beneficial. For pudding I had the crème brûlée. A masterclass in balance, between the sweet taste of the cream and cinnamon savoury flavours of the nut topping. I shall be returning.

Google
lovely spot, venison was cooked to perfection although the celeriac apple terrine was a bit flat. Butterflied sardines were superb as was the chocolate mille-feuille Service & atmosphere was excellent. Fairly priced too. Lovely meal - all round props to the team!

Miranda

Google
easy 6/5! the baked scallop dish was out of this world, so rich and flavorful! the scallops themselves are very fresh too. the atmosphere was laid back but does not have a distinctive style, which is fine if the food is that good. very nice staff and service :)

Google
I went back to the Circus with some friends to celebrate my birthday. Everything was perfect. The food was amazing. We were really well looked after. Thank you!

Google
Up to now, this is the best restaurant I experienced in the UK in the last 3 years. In term of services, food, presentation, wine list, price and quality. Thanks Natta for the hospitality and recommendation, we definitely had a wonderful night with the Circus tonight 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thanks again for the team and Natta 🙏 Michelin Stars 🌟🌟🌟

Google
Jess was a bubbling spring of fun as she helped select our delicious steak, pork and wine options. Keeping it simple here... Every dish delicious, service amazing and value for money through the roof. Highly recommend.

Yelp
5 star rating overall, so I am going to keep it going. The food was very good! The presentation and flavors were surprisingly good. I was expecting a tourist trap given the location but the food is genuinely good. Service was great, they let me charge my phone which was running out of juice. Only nit is that I was seated in the basement and I think the waitress forgot about me and I had a long wait for the check and finally just headed up to take care of it.

Yelp
Couldn't find button to book a reservation in this restaurant on their website, also I don't want to call them from the US. Reached out to them through DM on Instagram and voila ! Got the reservation without an issue The funny part is I went to thermae bath and small pub before the reservation and when I dined in, I literally saw 2 different strangers that I saw in earlier 2 different place and dined it there as well. How coincidence Interesting menu, their pheasant (type of bird) is delicious, service is quick and pleasant

Pilar M.

Yelp
The food is amazing as is the service the way they combine foods is incredible ingenious. Lots of tables for a small place but very quaint. You will enjoy the food but make sure make reservations

Yelp
As hinted by its name, the restaurant is located right by The Circus historical landmark. Its menu changes seasonally with vegetarian-friendly options. A complimentary divvied slice of bread and sauce bowl of olive oil was given. ----- Lamb shoulder, rolled and pan fried, with tenderstem broccoli, peas and broad beans, served with fried polenta and feta cake, charred courgettes, and a pea purée (£24.50). The lamb was tender and not tough to chew. There was a lot of different components to the dish, but all the flavors actually meshed rather well together. I liked the polenta cake, which was not the least bit dry on the inside. ----- Algerian spiced wild boar koftas, served with parsley and pomegranate tabbouleh, tomato and harissa sauce, and mint yoghurt (£22.10). ----- A £10 per person is required for online bookings. We had reserved Tuesday at 6 PM and the place was somewhat busy but still had open seating. Outside has a couple of tables.

Yelp
Came here because I couldn't pass up making a Le Carre reference in my head. Whatever. Our lunch was really fantastic. I don't even remember what we ate, but that I was with two other people who "weren't that hungry" and then we wolfed everything down. I had to finish off the meal with the creme brulee which featured a seasonal berry that you don't usually find in the US, and it was quite delicious. Highly recommended.

Kellie D.

Yelp
You have to make reservations and give your credit card information. Given how busy this place is and the high quality of their food, I can see why. However the service isn't at all pretentious for this high end restaurant. The food is excellent a

Yelp
Decided to try this place out on a whim after seeing that it had made it onto the Michelin guide for 3 years in a row. Was able to snag one of the last dinner reservations so felt pretty lucky about that. They allocate 2 hours for you to eat, but they did let us stay slightly overtime. - Kedgeree made with Enderbys undyed smoked haddock and prawns in a leek and curry sauce. Served with free-range egg and basmati rice. - This is one long title for a dish but it describes the complexities and layers of the dish which I absolutely loved. The fish was to die for, super fresh and flavorful. Honestly did not need the curry for the taste to pop, but the curry just made everything better as it was almost like Japanese curry but more flavorful. Loved the egg on top as well. - Seasonal cheeses served with crackers and fruit chutney - My favorite part was putting the fruit chutney with the blue cheese on a cracker. All of this is to say that everything they had complemented very well with one another. This was my first time ordering a cheese plate at a restaurant I will be doing more of this in the future. Overall, fantastic experience at The Circus. It's always a good idea to splurge a little bit on foods that the Michelin guide recommends because so far, it has not disappointed one bit.

Yelp
This was my fourth visit to Bath and the fourth time I have booked a meal at The Circus Restaurant. The food as always is exceptional, shame they do not have Malbec on the wine list. that said we was ably assisted by Emily our table waitress who helped us taste and choose another wine to have with our meal. During our stay Emily was always attentive in bringing water and our meal and making sure all was well. We felt at home and comfortable and Emily helped in making it an enjoyable experience. Yelp
We didn't have a booking for lunch but they squeezed us in downstairs. Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Joseph S.

Yelp
Food was amazing with a variety of flavors that melded perfectly. I had the beef which was both in slices and shredded prepared with a root, peppers and blue cheese sauce which to my surprise worked perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had the fish which was prepared with fennel and she could not stop raving about the taste and flavor. The restaurant is beautifully quaint as many Bath restaurants are but the service is cheerful and accommodating. The perfect meal in all aspects and sorry we did it for lunch when I am sure dinner would be equally amazing. Definitely will return. Anyone who says the good in England was not wonderful has never dined in Bath. London was mediocre but Bath is a culinary delight. Added with lunch was the wild juice cider which was refreshing and dessert ended the meal with the perfect amount of sweet savoring taste.

Yelp
It's not often that I see a restaurant with 44 (now 45) 5 star reviews so I was excited to get a resi at this small spot in the historic circus trio of buildings. And Circus earned every one of its stars. Service was excellent. Our Server, Rosey, was friendly, spot-on and attentive. The food was inventive and flawlessly prepared. We had the mussels and pesto potatos for an app. For dinner we did the ribeye and lamb with risotto. All boxes checked here. We rounded the meal out with the rhubarb crème brûlée and the banoffe. I grow so weary of the tired old notion among my fellow Americans the Britain has terrible food. It's lazy and false and this place is a sterling example of what is available if you do your due diligence. I have been here a week growing fat as a Christmas goose on Britains "terrible" food, and enjoying every second of it!

JC A.

Yelp
During our walk in Bath, we discovered this quaint little restaurant where we decided to have lunch. Our friendly waitress Emma sat us at a window table and took our orders, we both ordered the fish of the day, a sea bass, nicely filleted and served on a tapenade bed, sautéed in olive oil. A side of potatoes in herb sauce was a perfect side. A White wine from southern France matched up well with this delightful dish. A nice lunch!

Alexis L.

Yelp
The ambiance was very mellow and nothing special but had great service and decent food. This place had great appetizers. I enjoyed the sea bass for dinner. It was nice and tinder while the sauce and outed peas were full of flavor.

J J.

Yelp
Flat iron steak is nice. Good portion of steak and delicious greens. House wine paired perfectly. Window seat is a bit hot mid-day, but I was ok with it. Servers were brilliant. A

Asif K.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere. And the best staff ever. Always a pleasure to be there. Bravo. Food is always great.

Audrey L.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and very timely. I would definitely highly recommend the French onion soup

Jeremy R.

Yelp
We were so looking forward to our lunch at Circus after reading the glowing reviews but all was not sunshine and roses. We found the food to be good overall but the service was a bit surly. The tatami-style trout and smoked anchovy apps were stellar with great balance of flavors and top quality ingredients. The Berliner Bakery bread was also a highlight. The entrees went a little less well with the Feta/beetroot cheesecake underwhelming and the fish of the day, red mullet, was underportioned and not spectacular at that price point.

Kelly N.

Yelp
Excellent!!!! Will definitely be back. Food was delicious and the staff charming and attentive. Everything was so good.

Michiko Y.

Yelp
We had an exceptional meal at Circus yesterday evening. Not only was the food itself delicious but our friendly and most attentive server, Emma, certainly added to the experience. If we were in Bath for a longer stay, we'd dine there again. We'd certainly recommend the restaurant to anyone wishing to have a wonderful meal.

Nigel C.

Yelp
Lovely food. Interesting menu and wine selection . Excellent service. I would go back again and again if possible.

Nic Q.

Yelp
We were so lucky and happy to get last minute table here. The staff are super friendly and really do their best on making your experience memorable. We started with the salted cod, which had chorizo, tomatoes, parsley and chickpeas, delicious, they were even kind enough to give us the recipe. Main meals we had the curry goat and the vegetarian phylo, both very good, accompanied by some fresh vegetables as a side order. This house wine is very reasonable and quite good.

Goddy P.

Yelp
I came here on my birthday. I brought along a film crew to cover me while I ate, but management refused to let them enter. I had to make due with a lavalier microphone taped to my throat to capture the various gustory effects produced as I gorged on my Tagliatelle. The current cut of my birthday movie shows the exterior of the circus, a brief caption that reads "the film crew was prohibited from filming inside," and then 3 hours of chewing and swallowing sounds. I'm pretty happy with the cut. I would like to find a way to get it down to below 2hrs and 30 min BUT I have NO IDEA what to cut, the dinner was THAT good. Bravo!

Alexandra H.

Yelp
You could say I'm biased, having worked here during my gap year, but the Circus really is one of the best restaurants in Bath. Situated a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of the centre of town, sandwiched between the Circus and the Royal Crescent, the Circus Restaurant is an excellent choice for both casual lunches and more formal dinners. Family-run and always welcoming, the Circus serves up a varied selection of locally sourced, seasonal dishes with an emphasis on the best of British cuisine. On my most recent visit winter salads and mutton pasties joined the permanent steak with cafe de Paris butter (yum) and fish of the day options. And there's a fantastic array of wines to choose from, to suit every pocket, to wash it all down with - what more can you ask for? Set in a Georgian building, you can choose from the light and airy ground floor, cosy lower ground floor and, in the warmer months, the tables laid out on the pavement at the front. Be warned, the Circus fills up quick so it's always worth booking ahead to avoid disappointment!

Kent M.

Yelp
We popped in late near closing and were welcomed. The food was delicious. I can heartily recommend the Circus!

Pamela M.

Yelp
The Circus is a convenient stop for lunch as it is located near a couple of the main tourist attractions in Bath. The restaurant is housed on the main floor of a classic Georgian building. The menu is tasty and fresh. Grab a seat outside and enjoy the beautiful surrounding Georgian architecture while slurping down delicious gazpacho soup and eating perfectly cooked chips. Bottom line: Dine at The Circus before it's no longer a secret for great food that is in close proximity to The Circus and The Royal Crescent.

Julie C.

Yelp
I can't say enough good about this restaurant! The flavors jumped off the plate. The meat was so fresh and tender, I marveled bite after bite because it was so delicious. If you are in Bath and you don't get to this restaurant, be assured, you missed magnificent.

Jim C.

Yelp
Great location, amazing staff and service. Lunch was mid week and easy table to secure. Food was perfect. Just stop reading reviews and go there, neighborhood is lovely as well. Such a great meal.

Suzie J.

Yelp
My husband and I went to dinner at The Circus last night, the food was amazing. Our waitress Jess was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant

Peter S.

Yelp
I was lost in the sauce of delight.. the streets of Paris... Hmmm.. Sadly wallowing to this rare beauty in the heart of Bath

Corinne B.

Yelp
A lovely Little bistro away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets of Bath, also about a 7-minute walk from the theatre. Seating on the ground floor, both in and outside on the pavement, as well. downstairs where the toilets are. Interesting seasonal menu and I was spoiled for choice with 2 main veggie dishes as well as fish of the day (my friend had a generous fillet of hake). I had delicious Savoury Baklava Filo Pie with Barrel-aged Feta Cheese, Dill, Aubergine, caramelised onion, dates, peppers, tomato and nutmeg with a celery, apple and salted lemon salad. The salad also contained some mint leaves which gave it a refreshing taste. For desert I had indulgent Tarta Caprese: Capri's celebrated flourless rich chocolate torta with fresh raspberries, vanilla and Amaretto mascarpone. By the glass they have a house wine and several others of both red and white. The staff are friendly and attentive plus service was good. It did lack atmosphere but I won't mark it down for that. Another visit and The Circus seems to have a new accolade. Again my lunch was perfect: curry followed by compôte.

Lauren P.

Yelp
This place is charming and the food was delicious. Impressively, most of the menu is locally-sourced. And it changes once a month. Wow! The service is also quite good. You should probably make a reservation as they are often fully booked.

Rachel H.

Yelp
An elegant, pastel-hued restaurant situated near some of Bath's most beautiful and historic buildings, The Circus is nothing like its name first suggests. The circus refers in fact to the neighbouring circle of sedate, Georgian buildings rather than any carnivalesque connotations. The food was excellent - well cooked, fresh ingredients and subtle flavours. We tried the ceviche (delicious), followed by steak and wood pigeon (the latter a touch dry but compensated for by being rubbed with Morroccan spices) and for dessert mango creme brulee and the rhubarb and ginger tart. All were uniformly excellent. The house wine was good value for money, although unfortunately unless money is no object, there wasn't much choice for a similar price, the next one up being a solid three pounds more expensive. The circus is a great option for a romantic meal, softly lit by candles and surrounded by pale walls decorated with tasteful artwork. Although it's not cheap we felt it was great value for money taking into account the location and quality of the food served.

Michael P.

Yelp
Great ambiance and good food. No set lunch menu - so if you go for three courses expect to pay around £25 per head for food only. For that sort of money you can get better vfm elsewhere. However, food was tasty and well presented: I had the Scallops followed by a "Power Salad". Desert was a chocolate parfait with amaretto syllabub (delicious). Servers were young and pretty. Service standards professional without being overly attentive. Recommended - I will return.

Ben B.

Yelp
What's that about don't judge a book by the cover? In this case you do want to judge by the cover I suppose, just not by the title. I had seen this place mentioned in a few different places but simply wrote it off based on the name... having just arrived in Bath on an evening, and looking straight for restaurants and pubs versus tourist attractions given the time, I had not realised that this place is named for "The Circus" row of flats that it is just off of. With that knowledge the name of course makes a bit more sense, but I'm not sure I would have named it that myself all the same. Alas, back to the review! Walking by the next day my friend noticed a sign outside of a cafe looking place that named it one of the top 25 hidden treasures for foodies, or something along those lines, so we peeked in and looked at the menu... it was a great menu to say the least, and not as expensive as I've seen for similar food in London (naturally) or even York to be honest... it wasn't cheap, but not as expensive as the looks and menu could lead you to believe. (It wasn't until after we decided to try and give it a go that we discovered this was the infamous "The Circus" I had seen mentioned elsewhere.) I won't focus on the individual items we ordered too much as I believe their menu chafes frequently, but everything we ordered was spot on... we couldn't begin to fault the starters, mains, sides, or dessert... even the offered bread options were a cut above what you normally get. The atmosphere and service were top notch too... friendly and just attentive enough, couldn't ask for more. One note, despite being a bit bigger than it looks initially (there's a downstairs) it's a good idea to book if you're interested in coming here on a weekend or busier evening... we walked by in the afternoon and could still only get a reservation for 10:30 that evening! The wait was worth it however. Side note: I think this would be a great place to take a special someone as well, it certainly had a romantic feel to it without being too over the top... a contrast to the name no doubt.

Eddie C.

Yelp
My wife and I loved our trip to Bath last month and our dining experiences definitely contributed to that. The Circus is a great restaurant right next to the buildings/neighboorhood it is named after. It is small (RESERVATIONS a MUST!) and we saw them turn away about 3 different groups even though the restaurant looked empty because people with reservations were coming in. We had a romantic dinner with awesome service, awesome food with fresh ingredients. We had a great overall experience and we would definitely go back if we are lucky enough to travel to Bath again in the future.

M L.

Yelp
Friendly posh, relaxed but with exacting standards, so tastefully decorated, lovely food and located just 100 yards from the Crescent in Bath, The Circus Cafe and Restaurant is gorgeous. Seasonal, freshly cooked British food is delicious - a whole plaice caught that very day from St Ives, cooked and presented perfectly with lovely home made tartar sauce, a delight. Stop by for a mid meal refresher, excellent fresh coffee, teas and pick me up snacks - why not try crumpets or toasted tea cakes with butter and jam? In warmer weather, outside tables (with awning and heaters for the onset of the chillies) are very inviting too, seated with a view of one of Bath's historic roads, Brock Street and the Circus green just ahead. As it gets darker, this becomes a fantastic setting, you could just imagine Jane Austen strolling along the pavement under the hazy lamp lights. Plenty of tables inside, on two floors and a continuous stream of visitors suggests this is definitley one of the more popular venues for locals and tourists alike. Open 10.00am to midnight every day except Sundays, when shut. Highly recommended.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
What a great find! We were in Bath for just one night to celebrate two 50th birthdays and everyone there couldn't have been more helpful helping me plan it as I live in NYC. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. Can't recommend it enough if in the beautiful city of Bath.

Bryan J.

Yelp
Make sure you have reservations as it is not a large restaurant. We waited til the afternoon of to make them and ended up eating at 10pm. It was definitely worth the wait! Great atmosphere and wait staff followed by great food. If we are ever in Bath again we will be back. Flat iron steak medium rare was perfect!

Charles L.

Yelp
All the staff was welcoming and kind. Lovely server. Meal was amazing!!! Thanks for a lovely elegant lunch in Bath for a reasonable price.

Jake M.

Yelp
Located just between the Royal Crescent and the Circus in beautiful Georgian Bath, The Circus serves delicious modern continental food in an old Georgian terraced house. If not for the food, the location and environs make everything great. As my first course, and as somewhat of a faux-pas, I had today's vegetables: broccoli, courgettes, and heritage tomatoes (but, you know what, they were delicious). As my main course, I had the grilled fillet of hake, served with braised fennel and a velouté of white wine. The delicate hake was cooked perfectly so that it was tender and still juicy. The fennel was amazing... something I could never replicate. The light chive-sprinkled velouté sauce did not overpower the dish but complemented it. Our service was okay; while we were thankfully seated at the last table available, it was off in a side room where service constantly forgot us. The food made up for it however!

David G.

Yelp
Been here once when I took a friend for lunch. We kept it simple, both had the burger and a glass of hour red. very tasty, well done but still juicy burger , good for the UK but still not up to USA standard ( Conch Flyer in Key West, Margaritaville restraunt K W and best of all Herbies on highway One Florida Keys) service and ambience good. Recommended.

TennisBum P.

Yelp
What a great meal. It started with outstanding bread, including a sourdough that met the standards of someone who eats sourdough from San Francisco. The appetizer was the highlight and worthy of a main course. Roast quail with a chipotle and lime rub over a bed of quinoa, lentils and chorizo. It's a magnificent dish. For a main I went with a pork and pasta with mustard sauce. I left stuffed and happy. The number one reason to return to Bath.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Food quality was excellent and the prices were lower than expected for the amount of quality. Our waitress was wonderful. I had the steak and fat chips, which were both amazing. The salted cod and ham salad were just as good. We have 2 nights here. I want to go 2 nights in a row but my family don't want to go to the same place twice.

Aria M.

Yelp
We just finished having dinner at The Circus. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The ingredients used in the food are very fresh and there are many gluten free options which was nice for me. We shared two appetizers, a soup and a tandoori spiced monkfish dish and then shared the daily fish selection as an entree. All three were lovely and I'd have to say this is the best meal I've had in the UK so far!

Jonathan D.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had We both had the lamb patties and couscous (with baked peaches...wow!!) Wonderful!!

Kate F.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I took the chance to walk-up to The Circus to see if I could sneak in without a reservation. While it did appear there was a busy reservation schedule, they gave me the option of one of two tables. The atmosphere was lovely, intimate and lit for ambiance. The romance was a bit lost on me as I was traveling/dining alone but the friendliness of the staff allowed me to feel anything but out of place amongst the couples. The food was brilliant! I took in two courses, a nettle soup and fillet steak. Both were well seasoned and met every expectation I'd had about the meal from other reviews. I also had the Wild Wood cider. First time I'd tried it and I was fascinated with the many fruity flavored of the alcoholic cider. Anyway, if you're going to Bath you should make a reservation (or gamble on a walko) to The Circus!

Andres B.

Yelp
wow. this place is really really good. been here 3 times over the years. not to be missed in Bath. service is very god. food excellent. a MUST! but phone in early and book. or risk dissapointment.

Michael B.

Yelp
This was a nice find between Bath's Circus and the Royal Crescent. It's away from the main part of bath. The food is excellent at a good price point. Not really inexpensive, but definitely worth visiting. We feel lucky we were able to eat here given its reputation and quality.

Marcus H.

Yelp
Food excellent. Good seasonal selection of local specialities. Proud local staff. Great service but they dropped a lot of things such as cutlery. I don't know if this is pure coincidence but I surely hope not. I would definitely love to come back the next time I am in Bath England. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
