A casual sports pub on the trendy Lonsdale street just one block north of city center. I enjoyed a bite, some wine, and played pool for about an hour one afternoon. The staff was friendly. I was there early, so there weren't many people, but I believe it gets packed here in the evenings. I had a couscous salad that was refreshing and light. I drank a couple glasses of decent shiraz, but most of their wine was by the bottle, not by the glass, so I didn't have much choice.
I'm an American, so I wanted to see what an Aussie pool hall looked like. They have two table rooms, one with green American style 8-ball tables and balls. And one with red, Aussie style pool. I have to admit, I had no idea what the rules for their game was, and the city-wide free wifi didn't work in the back pool rooms, so I couldn't google it. So I did what any red-blooded American would do in that situation, I made up my own rules :-D
I broke with the black ball (didn't see the little white ball at first). Any yellow can hit any red and vice versa. hence, it's process of elimination until one color is left, then you have to hit the black ball in. If you miss, then one of the opponent's balls comes back onto the table. It's pretty awesome, actually. You're welcomed, Australia.
