"The Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) acts as the spectacular centerpiece of the market square and it's in this covered area that much of the trade in 15th-century Krakow was done. Today it's a long stretch of shops selling souvenirs to visitors from around the world. It's a great place to stroll and browse and while there is the usual selection of tacky T-shirts and plastic toys, it's not hard to look beyond these for a wide variety of handcrafted wooden gifts and skillfully embroidered items. The stalls of the Cloth Hall and nearby Old Town streets are also a popular place to pick up amber jewelry, although those tempted to buy should always obtain a certificate of authenticity before they part with any cash."

Such a nice surprise right in the middle of the Main Square. The gallery is small but full of beautiful Polish paintings. It’s calm and not too crowded, so you can really enjoy the art. Great way to take a break from the busy streets outside

Chanced upon an amazing collection of massive historical paintings on the upper floor. We took the lift. Some dark and provoking stuff. A lot of visitors due to complimentary entry. Keep your backpacks in the cloak room though. Small exhibit but enough to impress us while hanging out in Old Town.

The Kraków Cloth Hall, dates to the Renaissance and is one of the city's most recognizable monuments. It is the central feature of the main market square in the Kraków Old Town (the historic center of Kraków). Since the 15th century and aside from its history and cultural value, the hall is still used as a center of commerce.

The MNK Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) in Krakow is a stunning Renaissance building located in the Main Market Square. Inside, you'll find the National Museum's impressive collection of 19th-century Polish art, including paintings and sculptures. The architecture itself is a highlight, with beautiful details and a charming atmosphere. Plan for about an hour to explore the exhibits and enjoy the unique setting. A great spot for art lovers and history enthusiasts!

An old building, with quite beautiful architecture. It has a central gallery occupied by small stands where they mainly sell souvenirs. On the outer sides there are various shops, restaurants. This is also where you enter the Rynek Underground.

My visit to the Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art, located in the historic Sukiennice in Kraków, was an exceptional experience. The museum offers a deep dive into Poland's rich artistic heritage, all within the beautifully restored Cloth Hall, a landmark that has stood in the heart of the city for centuries. The collection is thoughtfully curated, featuring masterworks from some of Poland's most renowned painters, such as Jan Matejko, Józef Chełmoński, and Henryk Siemiradzki. Each piece reflects significant periods in Poland's history, from the grandeur of the Romantic era to the stark realism of 19th-century life. What impressed me the most was how the museum preserves and presents Polish identity through its art. The detailed descriptions and historical context provided for each work enhanced my understanding, making the visit not just about viewing art but also about learning more about Poland's past. Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply curious about Polish history, I highly recommend the Gallery of 19th-Century Polish Art. The combination of the Sukiennice’s architectural beauty and the impressive art collection made my visit a truly enriching experience in the heart of Kraków. 📸 I post quiet corners and cultural highlights like this one on Instagram: @postcardsandcoordinates

Cloth Hall in Krakow Located in the heart of the city's main square, this magnificent cloth hall is a symbol of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. Built in the 14th century, the Cloth Hall served as a major trading center for merchants from all over Europe. It housed various goods, from spices and furs to silks and precious metals. Today, it continues to be a bustling hub for both locals and tourists, with an array of shops and stalls selling traditional handicrafts and souvenirs. What makes this building truly impressive is its stunning Renaissance architecture, featuring ornate details and decorative facades. Inside, you'll find exquisite murals and paintings that depict scenes from Polish history.

Neat art museum. There was no lineup even on free day (Tuesday). It shouldn't take too long to see everything

Yelp
The market square in Krakow is another must visit. The "bazaar" here is very interesting. Lots of stores selling kitschy stuff, local goods and souvenirs. I did not buy anything but enjoyed the visit and looking around.

Yelp
This place has been a market square for half a millennium. That alone makes it a worthwhile visit. It's also the centerpiece of the main square of Kraków. Though the shops sell mostly tourist type stuff, lots of it are higher quality (including amber jewelry). Prices are mostly reasonable. Don't expect to haggle much like in the past. Prices are basically fixed unless you buy multiple or more expensive items.

Yelp
We are directly across from cloth hall. They have typical items you can find everywhere and some unusual lol Christmas ornaments and warm Christmas socks for gifts..there is a pay WC at the end of the bldg. Lots of Amber at great prices. Very clean simple browsing.

Yelp
Sukiennice, or the Cloth Hall is right in the middle of the main market square. It's a beautiful building dating from the 1500's so it's worth a visit to see the architecture and contemplate all of the buying and selling that's happened here over the centuries. In terms of merchandise, most of the stalls have the same stuff as you'll find in souvenir shops in other parts of the city. Many of the vendors have the same or similar merchandise and prices are a bit high (understandable given the location). Still, if you're after an "I Heart Krakow" tshirt or some amber earrings, they have you covered. Also worth knowing about are the clean public toilets on the lower level. They'll cost you a zloty or so but worth it.

Yelp
In 2013 Lonely Planet travel guides rated Kraków's Main Market Square as the most beautiful in the world. It also happens be the largest market square in Europe. The 16th century Renaissance Cloth Halls (Sukiennice) is at the heart of it, one of the icons of the city. Walking through the Sukiennice you will find many small stalls selling traditional polish items such as amber jewelry, wood carvings, wool clothing and a few "I love Kraków" shirts as well ;) There is also "Cafe Szał" on the 1st floor which you can get delicious (but slightly expensive) cakes and drinks, but the view of the "rynek" is worth it. While on the upper floor inside you will find a division of the National Museum which contains the largest exhibit of 19th century Polish painting and sculptures along with several known masterpieces. So just like in the middle ages, there is still a lot going on here at the Cloth Halls in Kraków.

Yelp
The best marketplace in the city. Even if you buy nothing, just walking around to see all the cool folk stuff you can buy and feeling the energy, that probably hasn't changed much in hundreds of years, is great!

Yelp
Situated in a medieval square that has so much history, there's a lot going on, & the shopping is great. The local vendors sell all kinds of things from socks to jewelry. You can get reasonably priced gifts. I personally like the trinkets, I bought a little wooden box, painted a beautiful blue, for my paper clips. I drank a hot tea & enjoyed watching 2 older men play chess here.

Yelp
I recommend just walking through here, with a close watch over your personal belongings. The stalls have cute things but they are exponentially more expensive for the same things that are sold elsewhere in the town. The building architecture is cool though and worth having a look at. At nighttime, although the gates to the stall area are closed, you can still have a nice look through.

Yelp
Sukiennice, in the centre of Krakow is place where- if you want or do not really need it- you would find yourself - while waiting for your friend or meeting around Rynek. There you can buy different type of souvenirs from Krakow and Poland , also you can have a look for artisans work like silver, amber, fabrics, wooden figurines. It is long hallway in the middle of Market Square with lovely archways being seen from all around the corners in the area. There are painted emblems of historical families and nobles. It is thing from medieval times...older than anything...:)

Yelp
We visited this place today and it consists of a huge number of vendors' stalls inside a beautiful/long hallway, adjacent to the (huge) main square of the Old Town. The prevailing items for sale are amber jewelry (which I happen to love) and many touristic items, although everything was very colorful and nicely displayed. Most of the vendors were friendly.

Barbara S.

Yelp
I went a couple of times. I bought amber earrings, wooden boxes and Christmas ornaments. I felt really comfortable with the vendors and enjoyed my visit very much. Prices were fair.

Yelp
Cloth Hall is essentially a one-stop shop for souvenirs. Don't try to haggle with the market traders - they will cut you down with an icy glare! There are some interesting trinkets for sale here, but many stalls have the same stock, so if you're looking for something unique, try elsewhere.
