In 2013 Lonely Planet travel guides rated Kraków's Main Market Square as the most beautiful in the world. It also happens be the largest market square in Europe. The 16th century Renaissance Cloth Halls (Sukiennice) is at the heart of it, one of the icons of the city.
Walking through the Sukiennice you will find many small stalls selling traditional polish items such as amber jewelry, wood carvings, wool clothing and a few "I love Kraków" shirts as well ;) There is also "Cafe Szał" on the 1st floor which you can get delicious (but slightly expensive) cakes and drinks, but the view of the "rynek" is worth it. While on the upper floor inside you will find a division of the National Museum which contains the largest exhibit of 19th century Polish painting and sculptures along with several known masterpieces.
So just like in the middle ages, there is still a lot going on here at the Cloth Halls in Kraków.
