Copenhagen Is the Best City for Coffee, According to the Experts

"Luminaries like Coffee Collective’s Klaus Thomsen, Peter Dupoint, and Casper Engel Rasmussen set the precedent for Copenhagen to define its own northern personality with the coffee bean. Today, the iconic roastery and collection of coffee shops boasts seven locations. The best location (in my humble opinion) resides in the bustling Torvehallerne food market, where visitors can enjoy coffee while taking in the sight of langoustine and urchin strewn across the glittering ice of the fishmonger stalls." - Hillary Eaton

On a recent trip to multiple Scandinavian countries, the Flat White I picked up and this coffee shop was probably the best coffee I had (and I was looking hard). This place came highly recommended and I was not disappointed. I too, highly recommend. The only caveat is that it is located in a *fabulous* food hall with limited seating, so plan to grab & go as the few seats are almost always taken.

Google
An absolute gem of a place. I was a tad confused when placing an order as to where to place it however they were very effective. This place is truly one for the coffee lovers, a beautiful roast. Oat milk flat white was gorgeous, made beautifully. Will be returning before I leave my trip.

Google
Great service and ambience. A nice coffee spot inside TorvehallerneKBH with various selection of coffee beans. I ordered the hot cafe latte, it was good but a bit too milky for my taste, perhaps I should’ve ordered a double shot latte or cappuccino for stronger coffee taste.

Google
We enjoyed sitting out, having our cortado, right after having had dinner at Torvehallerna. This chain has a nice feeling with minimalistic, modern indoor where one feels relaxed.

Google
Absolutely loved the roast profile and bean selection at this coffee collective! They serve amazing pour-over and espresso, and the best part is their location—they’re situated right in the market, making it super convenient to grab food or snacks while you enjoy your coffee. We tried their espresso and it was fantastic! Although the milk-based drinks were a bit weak for my taste, there’s no doubt that this coffee collective serves the best coffee I had during my trip.

Google
Hands down best specialty coffee I've had in entire Copenhagen. Wouldn't have guessed based on the location, but the reviews aren't lying! Creamy, flavorful, impressive espresso! If you're a coffee nerd, don't miss out hopping by for a sip! Could be busy depending on the day and time, but that shouldn't stop your taste buds from craving Specialty beans.

Google
This is a famous café in town, and it definitely lives up to its reputation! It was quite crowded when we visited, so we only managed to purchase some coffee beans to take home. The beans turned out to be pretty good—great aroma and flavor.

Google
One of my favorite places in Copenhagen due to the amount of different and interesting stores packed in one small space. Prices are good, and people there also tend to be really sweet to talk with. ❤️ Definitely give it a visit!

Yelp
In the heart of Copenhagen's Torvehallerne food hall, nestled among a symphony of culinary delights, lies the Coffee Collective, a purveyor of exquisite coffee roasted to perfection daily. This minimalist oasis, with its gleaming counter and inviting bar stools, offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of the market, where coffee lovers can gather to savor the rich and robust flavors of ethically sourced beans. On a recent visit, I indulged in a cappuccino (45Kr = $6.48 USD), and I was immediately captivated by its intense yet smooth aroma. The velvety crema danced on my lips, revealing a symphony of flavors that perfectly balanced the bitterness of the espresso with the sweetness of the steamed milk. Each sip was a revelation, a testament to the Coffee Collective's commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Whether you're seeking a caffeine boost to start your day or a decadent treat to accompany your meal, the Coffee Collective is a must-visit destination at Torvehallerne. With its exquisite coffee and welcoming atmosphere, it's the perfect place to linger and savor the simple pleasures of life.

Yelp
Visited on a Saturday morning around 10am and there was a line of about 10 people. I managed to placed my order within 5 minutes so the queue does move very quickly. I had the kaffekombucha (48dkk) and cardamom pastry (36 dkk) and honestly wasn't too impressed by either. The kombucha was incredibly acidic (much more than I'm used to for most kombucha) and the pastry lacked sweetness and was a bit cold. I would give this 3.5 stars but am rounding up for the nice service.

Yelp
The coffee scene in Copenhagen is exceptional and this place lived up to the hype. This specific outlet of The Coffee Collective is located inside the Torvehallerne food market and is totally worth checking out. They have plenty of seating and we were able to find a spot even during the morning rush hours when a lot of locals seemed to stop by. The baristas here are friendly and highly skilled and made us both an excellent cup of cappuccino each which we enjoyed while people watching in this vibrant location. Coffee was strong enough with a smooth finish with no bitterness lingering in our mouths. Prices are steep as is typical of Copenhagen.
google avatar

Yelp
The coffee collective is located in a small boutique shop area. The area is so adorable, with a bunch of market style food booths and boutique shops. I ordered a double shot latte with oat milk. It came in a glass cup and was so good! There is also wifi here for people who want to work from cafes. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Sorry, jet lag. I got a double espresso this morning at Coffee Collective in the Torvehallerne and you're done. That it was a single source (Kenya) bean and brewed to order, served in a proper ceramic cup means that you're knocked out for the day. Yep, excellent coffee and they do have a wifi here. Counter seats inside and a few tables under umbrellas outside, but that's where the smokers are.
google avatar

Shawnte S.

Yelp
My favorite coffee in all of Copenhagen! Packs a punch, full of flavor, and served quickly even during the morning rush.
google avatar

Fernanda S.

Yelp
I really love Coffee Collective. The baristas are very well trained and always serve delicious beans and blends. The place is small and cozy, but it's a perfect location to enjoy a good cup and people watch in the market. I recommend coming in with time, so you can sit and relax, enjoying the best hygge DK can offer. Prices are kind of average but on a slight steep compared to other similar coffee shops.
google avatar

Yelp
Beside their coffee being outstanding, at this location they have a coffee ice cream!! They put ground coffee bean on top as a garnish and it is an excellent snack/pick me up!

Yelp
I loved this coffee house, serious coffee served sans pretense. I had 3 different kinds of coffee here (espresso, latte, hand brewed) but the hand brewed coffee is 2die4. First they heat the water up to a temperature ideal for the beans. Then barista hand pours in concentric circles, carefully onto V-filtered pot. Deliciousness ensues, subtle flavor, acidity absent, just pure delight. Sip without sugar or cream and Mmmmmmm, you are treated to one of the bestest coffees you've had in a while This location is in the Norreport St. stop on the metro. Was here a few times because it was in the UnMercato complex of well sought out food/wine/vegetarian concessions. You're gonna love it here, especially in summer when everyone's out, friendly and feelin' a hygge Danish day. Visits: 4+ Tip: Come to the area for a meal because there is a farmers market, bakery, sandwiches, organic, vegan, wine, Paradis and all sorts of food vendors.

Yelp
Items Tasted: Gathugu Double Espresso Kieni Double Espresso Coffee nerds in the truest sense of the word, everything from the filtration system and brewing equipment to paying farms above-market value in order to secure the best Beans included, The Coffee Collective in Copenhagen is widely touted by locals and global aficionados as one of the best roasters in the world, the location at Torvehallerne sporting a line morning through evening despite prices that are nearly double that of other spots in the Market, not to mentions Espresso House or Starbucks just a few meters outside the doors in either direction. Spoke of fondly by nearly everyone who has encountered the brew, relæ's Christian Puglisi going so far as to dedicate a section in his "Book of Ideas" to how Roasters Casper Rasmussen and Jakob Dupont changed the way he thought about Water, it was alongside Pastries from Laura's Bakery that a steamy 45DKK Gathugu Double Espresso was enjoyed on Sunday, the up-front flavor bold and bitter with a subtle bit of Berries that continued to develop as it cooled, a long linger of Caramel and just the slightest hint of acid. Returning to the same place less than 24 hours later, another $6.93USD traded for a Double, The Coffee Collective's Beans once again showed what true dedication to craft can yield, this time another Kenyan Bean titled Kieni showing bright citrus notes and a smooth texture that coated the palate, not quite as complex as the Gathugu but still better than the vast majority of what is out there, though perhaps subject to a case of diminishing returns for those who don't really *love* Coffee considering the price-point.

Yelp
Although Copenhagen is a place full of high standard independent coffee shops, but Coffee Collective offers nothing inferior to any indies. A must visit coffee chain with true passionate barista at heart in each cup of coffee. Chill environment, maybe you can chat with strangers next to you like myself did because the locals are just super friendly. : )

Yelp
The coffee soft serve is a little too sweet. Their iced coffee is slightly sweet but it's great - not too bitter or sweet. We sat here in the Torvehallerne and just people watched. They have plenty of counter seating. We liked their iced coffee so much we bought another two for the walk back to our AirBNB. I believe they also offer tours, but only on certain days.
google avatar

Janet H.

Yelp
Ok, if I'm paying an arm and a leg for coffee at 42 krones, it better be worth the splurge. Honestly, this is a nice experience for those of you who love black coffee. They hand brew your coffee individually and measure the beans/water accurately using a scale. Pretty intense. The staff was also super friendly and nice and described the different beans they were using that day. The coffee indeed was very smooth and flavorful.
google avatar

Jeanette L.

Yelp
Located in a corner of Torvehallerne, The Coffee Collective brews up the best coffee. They have a variety of beans that can satisfy whatever your heart desires. Their staff is friendly and there is a decent amount of seating. I was lucky enough to come during the season of their delicious soft ice! I'm a big fan of coffee ice cream so this really hit the spot for me. The espresso flavor was on point and hit the spot :)
google avatar

Yelp
Good and quick coffee shop located at the indoor farmers market near Nørreport St. The workers spoke great English which was helpful for my wife. Stop in on a rainy day for a refreshing cup.
google avatar

Tomas L.

Yelp
Probably the best coffee beans in the city. Coffee is not cheap but you will get good quality of coffee for your money. I have been here several times, ordered different kinds of coffee and alway have great results. This year they came out with new product, coffee soft serve ice cream made with their espresso. This is a great value and so good! You have to try it! Because life is tasty! ;)
google avatar

Yelp
Most expensive cortado I have ever had, but worth it. This place is definitely operating at that next level. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and of course english speaking staff helped me navigate their two espresso options. And when I expressed uncertainty between a cappuccino and cortado, the barista offered to give me more milk on the side so I could adjust as necessary. I can't remember the origin of my espresso, but it was natural process, and had a nice acidic bite with hints on unsweetened cocoa powder. While it isn't a true coffee shop, just a counter in the food hall, it does have a fairly big area, with plenty of seating, right along the window, which I assume is always bathed in sunlight--I was planning on going to a coffeeshop instead, but the atmosphere was quite inviting. Also, they have water easily available, which is essential for my at good coffeeshops.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Can't judge the coffee here. I came to this little stand just for the ice cream which was the best coffee ice cream I've had. Such a nice, natural flavor. And I enjoyed the finely ground coffee sprinkled on top.
google avatar

Ruth V.

Yelp
Great spot for a coffee break in Copenhagen. We stopped here a couple of times: one for a late caffeine boost and another one for breakfast and both times the coffee was delicious: full of flavour, rich and perfect foam and temperature. The service was also very good. The staff was very knowledgeable about what they were doing and the coffee they serve. The space is small, with only a few seats inside and some large communal tables outside, but I would recommend the place. Grab a take away cup. The coffee is worth it!
google avatar

Maria Simone S.

Yelp
A really nice place with plenty of good coffee. Unfortunately they don't have a coldbrewed ice coffee or ice latte, which I've been craving lately. Though they selv their own twist on both ice coffee and ice latte - made with boiled water. Ended up trying a (regular) latte, which was really good. My search for good, coldbrewed ice coffee continues...
google avatar

Tasha N.

Yelp
I do consider myself a coffee enthusiast and I would go to great lengths (and pay large sums) for good coffee, but this place was way overpriced in my opinion. I was recommended a cold brew by the barista, which came up to DKK45 (approx £6) which I found ridiculous! It tasted quite okay, very easy to drink, but also way too bland for something that costs a small fortune. Was also a little put off when I asked for milk in my cold brew and the barista responded by giving me this disgusted look - as though putting milk in a cold brew was blasphemous! All in all, pretty okay ambience, seemingly okay coffee, but WAY too overpriced. Either that or I am just not hipster enough for this place.
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Disclaimer: tourist from Seattle So I went to The Coffee Collective twice in my four day stay. This one in Torvehallerne and another one in Norrebro. The coffee here is good! From one coffee snob to another, I got along well with the baristas (they weren't actually snobby, they were very nice). The latte was delicious! Perfect because the weather was a little chilly. I loved this location because I loved all the food stalls! So grab a seat at the bar facing the outside and sip some fantastic coffee and people watch! If you are purchasing beans to bring back, they are pricey! But again, you're in Copenhagen and it is not cheap here!
google avatar

Ana C.

Yelp
The Coffee Collective is serious about their coffee. Their baristas are very well trained and they source high quality beans. They make hand pour single drip coffee and espresso drinks. Their cappucino is more like a caffe latte and I really liked it. It didn't have the bitterness characteristic of most cappucinos. My husband tried the esmeraldo which smelled like a black tea with jasmine notes but definitely tasted like coffee. He really enjoyed it. A little bit more expensive than the side street cafes but the quality is worth it.
google avatar

Ken M.

Yelp
No decaf! Great coffee, though. The foam on the latte was rich --- reminded me o the microfoam on a flat white. Right by the entrance of the market hall; the bustle in front of the counter looks daunting, but they keep up just fine. As long as you like your stimulants, this is a must-try.

Andrea M.

Yelp
I read great reviews about this place and to be honest it was a bit disappointing. The staff were rude and obnoxious, the coffee was over priced and the size of cappuccino was tiny, the same size as an espresso almost... I asked for a regular latte but it came with syrup, they offered to make a new one but it had the same sickly taste. Wouldn't recommend.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
This place was top notch for me. Great coffee and service. There is a wonderful variety of different shops and food available immediately around the shop, that make it a perfect place to grab a coffee and wander around for a bit. The line and process for ordering is a bit chaotic but things do move fast and there isn't a bit wait; with several people behind the counter, the coffee comes out very fast!
google avatar

Mina S.

Yelp
This location is even more crowded than their original shop on Jægersborggade but they do their best to be efficient. The employees here aren't as friendly but who can be with a customer volume like this? Luckily the quality of the coffee is the same, which is stellar, and the espresso soft serve ice cream can only be found here. I am a huge fan of coffee ice cream and this is one of the best ones I've ever tasted. Very smooth and creamy with a not-too-strong coffee taste, sprinkled with beans blitzed to a powder. I assumed it would have a more intense flavour like espresso but it is just a coffee ice cream. As for hot drinks, you have to try the Esmeralda from an Aeropress. It is expensive but one of the most delicious cups of coffee that you could treat yourself to.
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
This coffee is amazeballs. I'm not joking. Really really good. I love coffee. They love making good coffee. It's a win win. Beautifully executed cappuccinos with the roastiest, toastiest espresso goodness and smoothest foam artfully presented. The drip coffee is scientifically rendered to perfection. The only reason that I don't give a 5th star is that the hustle and bustle of Torvehallerne makes it difficult to always sit and enjoy your perfectly crafted coffee. I like a little cozy with my coffee and you don't always get that here. But for a delicious coffee to begin your stroll through the market stalls - there is no better place to start than the Coffee Collective.
google avatar

Kay M.

Yelp
Been there several times, always good coffee and very popular. It's my very first time to try their coffee soft ice. 30DKK perfect for a summer weather! Friendly stuff there too!
google avatar

Kim D.

Yelp
This is a yummy treat on a warm day. Just the right amount of coffee flavor! The customer service was great and reasonably priced!
google avatar

Isabella D.

Yelp
There is only one place to go for coffee in Copenhagen, if you are a true coffee lover. And that is Coffee Collective. It is a super engaged and informed staff, where you feel the passion and know-how regarding coffee being poured into your cup. This is probably the best black coffee in DK - and if you know me well, black coffee is the only way to go when the coffee is this good. And it is no wonder that the coffee is delicious, because not only is it yummy but it is also good for the soul. Coffee Collective buy their beans under Direct Trade meaning that they pay more, are more involved and care more about the coffee and their farmers. This attention to detail is apparent to me every time I go there - and it will definitely not be the last.
google avatar

HARRISON M.

Yelp
Coffee was excellent. The service was pleasant the gentleman at the cashier who took our order patiently explained all the of the menu and the door different kinds of coffee on the counter.
google avatar

Gev M.

Yelp
Great coffee, friendly baristas, excellent location. On the pricier side, but it's the best coffee I had while in Copenhagen. Try the cortado; it's addictive.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
The coffee collective is a must try if you are venturing in Copenhagen. The shop is located in an amazing building in downtown. The staff is very friendly and the coffee is hands down the best you will find in Copenhagen. During my two weeks spent in Denmark, no other coffee shop even came close to the quality they offer.
google avatar

Zoey A.

Yelp
Decent local coffee shop but far from mind-blowing. It's a lovely stall in the food hall where baristas would make coffees right there among the buzzing crowd. Much better than Starbucks though so maybe get a sip when you can.
google avatar

Amra C.

Yelp
I really enjoy their coffee, and the staff are so friendly, so yes they recieve 5 stars.. It's completely worth it.. The staff's knowledge about coffee is also admireable and I challenge myself and try something new every time I visit. They have different kind of beans, and last time I tasted their ecological coffee from Ethiopia, it was delicious. I drink my coffee with a bit of milk, but this one was mild and really tasty and did not need any milk in it. The two ones I visited the most are the one at Jægersborggade and the one at Torvehallerne. Both places are nice, so go drink coffee :)
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
8.5/10 for the coffee collective overall. I tend to like nuttier coffees, told the cashier this and he picked out just the right roast. He was a total sweetheart and had me sit down, relax, and wait for my coffee to be served like one would be served in a restaurant. I was extremely happy with the coffee that came my way--honestly one of the best cups of coffee I've had. The space is well designed with a few tables outside, a few common areas such as the bar, and 5 spacious tables that seat 4--perfect for a group of friends of 4 strangers to share. Each table also has water and napkins. There are cacti sprinkled around the cafe on tables and windowsills. Very hipster. It's also super cool to see the roasters in the next room which are separated from the space by floor to ceiling glass panes. This aspect deepens a customer's relationship with their coffee. So yes all in all I love this place but I biked all the way here to have a good place to work for a few hours. I was shocked to hear that a cafe this popular, especially in the 21st century doesn't have wifi!!! Therefore, this is much more a cafe to have an awesome cup of coffee with a relaxed group of friends than a cafe to work (although they do welcome laptop use). I cut my losses, enjoyed the awesome cup of coffee and plan on finding another cafe to frequent when I want to work.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to Copenhagen on vacation and LOVED this coffee shop. We came here almost every day, and tried most of the menu. Every drink was excellent. It is pricey, but 1) Copenhagen is pricey, 2) they use really high quality beans, 3) every barista is well trained so 4) you'll never get a bad drink here. This is a coffee shop for hardcore coffee lovers, on par with the likes of Ritual, Four Barrel, and Blue Bottle in San Francisco. They make hand pour coffee and espresso drinks mainly. They usually have a couple beans to choose from and are happy to describe the differences to you. I should also mention that the baristas are super friendly, even to foreigners, and the location is great. It is in a hip neighborhood on the northwestern side of the city, in a market building called the Torvehallerne, where you can find a lot of delicious foods and sweets. It is about a 15 minute walk from the main downtown area, near the Norreport metro station. They have a second, smaller location, another 10 or 15 minutes further out from downtown.
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Definitely our best cup of coffee during our two week European trip and also the most expensive. We paid almost $12 for two cappuccinos, but that's what you have to expect with Copenhagen. This place executes their products well, and the quality of the beans stands on their own. I felt embarrassed as an American when I hear one of my fellow countrymen ask if they had any flavored syrups. *shudder*
google avatar

Eva K.

Yelp
Lovely coffee, enough said. When you have so many stalls to choose from at Torvehallen that serve coffee and cake, I usually go straight to this place. You can always rely on getting good coffee here. There are not many sitting places, after all this is Torvehallen where you're not supposed to linger around but get your things and go, but I'd gladly drop by here to get my coffee to go on my way to somewhere else.
google avatar

Elisha L.

Yelp
Best coffee icecream I've ever had. They call it coffee softice. It was a lightly blended icream with the coffee beans and lightly dusted with fine coffee. Certainly well priced. It delivered spoonfuls of well balanced sweetness with the subtle coffee bitterness. A surprising find at a coffee store:)
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
According to my SO, this is the best coffee he's had during our trip around Europe. This is situated in a cute food stall area and the best thing: it's open early! We stopped by twice during our stay here. We also bought a few bags of coffee for our selves and family/friends. Everyone agreed how wonderful the coffee was. His friend opened his up the minute he got home. Must've been the aroma beckoning him.
google avatar

Dennis J.

Yelp
Very good coffee, nice space to enjoy a coffee. I stopped by for a breakfast iced latte, and it was very good and rich with flavor. The space is also clean and nice, and the service very friendly. Definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
A very good latte, with hints of cocoa in the espresso. The beans are packaged in a resealable pouch that looks like it's ready for a trip to the International Space Station, which is awesome. The blend I purchased - half Kenyan and half Columbian - is medium strength and perfect for mornings. Great as a pour-over drip. A little pricey at 99kr ($14-15 USD) but... it's Copenhagen.
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
This place is located inside a larger building, near one of the entrances. I ordered a cortado. Baristas are darn well knowledgeable about coffee and made one of the best cortados that I've had. Practically no seating here..more of a get-in-get-out commuter place. If you're looking for coffee on the run CHOOSE THIS PLACE. The only drawback is how dang expensive it is compared to espresso drinks I've had from other parts of the world. If I remember correctly it was $5.50USD.
google avatar

Eve C.

Yelp
They are always really nice and the service is always top notch. I mean: They care! My coffee was better that all the one i had in Coffee Shop in Copenhagen. It worth the wait (5 minutes - Wednesday morning in Torvehallerne). I recommend the Cappucino with 2 shots, because the coffee is the best thing they have. The milk is pretty good too of course. BUT, the temperature makes it all PER-FECT.
google avatar

Per S.

Yelp
This place probably serves the best cup of cappuchino in Copenhagen. These guys take coffee very serius. Despite the long lines (at times) they don't rush and compromise the quality. I don't give this place 5 stars since it is now is very popular and the lines can get very long. I usually enjoy stopping by early in the morning on my way to work. Then the place is all quiet and peaceful.
google avatar

Gaby M.

Yelp
Best coffee I had in Copenhagen. We brought back a bag of beans and savored every cup until they ran out. Super convenient location and friendly staff.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Better than Starbucks, don't know why Starbucks even exists in copenhagen. Cortado is perfect.
