The Coleridge (Valletta, Malta) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Behind an unmarked door on a side street in Valletta, The Coleridge occupies a 17th-century property once linked to the court of Grandmaster Gregorio Carafa. Its 6 rooms and suites are each named after poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge - layered with antique furnishings, textured fabrics, and original artwork. The atmosphere is calm but never sterile, more townhouse than hotel. Just steps from the city’s museums and landmarks, it feels well-placed and self-contained: a measured base for seeing Valletta, or stepping back from it." - Tablet Hotels

Delightful hotel that was just right for us. We moved here from an apartment which was not as expected and made a very poor start to a few days in Valletta. As soon as we got here, our trip improved! We stayed in the Christabel room for 3 nights and the Sheridan for 1. All the rooms are different but both of these have large comfy beds, nice big bathrooms with space for toiletries and wet towels (so basic but so often not provided!). Breakfast buffet had a nice range - cereal, fruit, cheese, ham, salad, eggs, pastries. And most important the staff were all friendly but professional. The location is very central, walking distance to all the attractions, but it was quiet at night. Highly recommended!

I have stayed at a number of up market hotels in Valletta. This time I stayed at the Coleridge and found my favourite. We had a very good room with ample breakfast. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. I look forward to staying again.

My daughter Jemma and I stayed at this boutique hotel for five nights recently. The building dates back to the early 1600's, so it is very authentic. Our room (the Erskine) was small but adequate, although there was only a trickle of water coming through the tap in the washbasin in the bathroom. We were going to mention it to reception in the morning as it is only open between 8am-8pm and we wanted to go off and do some sightseeing. On the first night, we returned to our room at 10.30pm after a meal out, and all the power went off when we put our card in the slot. My daughter 'phoned the number on the card we were given, and a lovely lady came out, fiddled with the trip switch and power was restored after a couple of attempts . She showed Jemma where it was just in case it happened again and promised to sort it out next day. We also mentioned the water problem and she was very apologetic. After a delicious breakfast, we headed out for the day. When we returned, everything was sorted (a faulty water pump was the culprit) and the receptionist told us they were upgrading us to a bigger room by way of apology, and that they would move all of our things for us the following morning whilst we were out. Next day, as promised, we were taken next door to the luxurious Hatley suite, the largest of all their suites where our things had been carefully put away. It extended over 2 floors, had it's own independent entrance and was absolutely stunning, so we were delighted. The staff at the hotel were unfailingly helpful and friendly, and I would definitely recommend a stay here.

A stylish hotel in a converted townhouse in the Old Bakery Street, walking distance to all Valletta's sights. We stayed at the Christabel room - a great choice - large room with a very comfortable bed, antique furniture and a balcony, well appointed, lots of character. There was a separate anteroom/lounge room as well as another attic bedspace. Bathroom was also spacious with large walking shower and plenty of space to put your toiletries. A/C and heating. Lovely breakfast.|Friendly and caring staff.|We had an issue with a malfunctioning lock caused by previous guests but that was eventually sorted.|The photos on their website are true to reality (for Christabel).|Recommended.

I would class this accommodation as a hostel rather than a hotel.staff are helpful and friendly. Rooms are spacious but a little dingy and depressing. Breakfast is very basic and served in a damp cellar with no windows but the location is very good.

Everything about our stay here was great! We were greeted by Maja (manager) who showed us to our room and explained everything to us, including restaurant recommendations.|Our room (Stanhope) was spacious with a separate seating area and a balcony overlooking Old Bakery Street.|The location is ideal for seeing all the sights of Valletta and for restaurants and bars.|Breakfast offered lots of choices including cooked eggs and frittata.|All the staff were friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Coleridge

This was our first visit to Malta and we chose to stay here due to the hotels specification, small number of rooms and location in Valetta. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly and helpful receptionist and shown to our room. Our room was GREAT, spacious, comfortable, clean and we had two terraces, one that we could sit at and another up a short, narrow flight of stone stairs, had a hot tub, that was wonderful. It is very hard to fault our accommodation but the lights in the room were challenging to read by, and the bathroom, while it is lovely to look at, was not practical to use as there is nowhere by the sink for your toiletries and the water from the shower, having no boundary, tends to make the floor slippery at the doorway. There are only 5 rooms, so it was more like staying at a relatives home, than in a hotel. There is not a 24/7 receptionist but then there is no need for one, but there is a contact number to call Maja should you have any issues. There was a good choice for breakfast and staff were always friendly and willing to assist. As the hotel is situated less than 5 minutes walk from Palace Square, many restaurants and attractions such as The Grand Masters Palace and St John's Co-Cathedral and the main streets with shops are close by. We walked around Valetta very easily and had no need for public transport or taxis, so are unable to comment but there seemed to be many. The Coleridge was excellent for us and we would definitely recommend it, and we would chose it again ourselves.

Right in the centre of Valletta this small hotel has really lovely well decorated rooms. Despite being very central it was quiet at night. We had a really comfortable sleep. If we came back to Valletta we would not hesitate to book again. Maja who works the reception could not be more helpful and charming. She gave us lots of great advice. Breakfast buffet was more than ample.
