The Collective is such an INCREDIBLE small business that has been a staple for my family for years!! They provide sustainable goods from local and other ethical makers. In addition to this, they have a BULK REFILL STATION where you can get refills on body care items, and other household goods. You can bring your own sanitized container or you can purchase one in store! Plenty of self care items, hair care, makeup, household goods, pieces from local artists. The best place to shop for gifts!!! Jamie, the owner, is such an incredible human and will answer any questions you have, show you how to use the products, and be able to recommend sustainable alternatives if they do not carry them! Overall, the collective makes it so easy to make switches over to sustainable goods!

When I think about THE COLLECTIVE, I don’t just think about the incredible goods it offers or the beauty of the shop itself. I think about how welcoming, safe, and magical it is. Jamie and their incredible staff is a breath of fresh air when I walk in, always eager to invite me in and make me feel seen, heard, and welcomed. THE COLLECTIVE is THE shop to spend your time, energy, and money on. And, their message is VERY clear: fascism, racism, bigotry, and hate has NO home here.

We ❤️ THE COLLECTIVE! Their commitment to sustainability and their local community is truly inspiring. The shop is beautifully curated—every product is intentionally chosen, and it shows. We’ve been lucky enough to have our products carried there for years, and it’s always been such an aligned, meaningful partnership. Owner Jamie is a pure gem—genuine, kind, and deeply true to her values. She’s created something really special, and we’re honored to be a small part of it. We also have to shout out their bulk refill bar—it’s such a smart, impactful way to reduce packaging waste and give customers the freedom to get exactly what they need. Thank you, Jamie and team, for everything you do!

I love this store! The products and standards that Jaime has made the baseline of this business are incredible. I live out of town but every time I visit Des Moines I come in and stock up! I often order from out of state because I trust the products at the Collective and I can't find everything I need at my local refill market. Everything always ships quickly and smells amazing when it arrives! Thank you, Jaime! You're the best!

I love this store! When I went for the first time, the owner was so kind and helpful to help walk me through some easy first steps to begin making more sustainable choices. Over time I've become a regular at the store, utilizing the bulk refill and many other products. Everything I have bought here is fantastic, and I love that this local business supports other small businesses. This is a welcoming and inclusive space and I always get excited when I get to go to the store. I cannot recommend this store enough for anyone wanting to make some sustainable changes and get the support they need on this journey!

We are so lucky to have a store like The Collective in the metro!! The bulk refill station (my favorite part of the store) allows us to do our part in saving the environment and its cheaper! I love finding new containers to bring in. The Collective also offers a large variety of eco friendly products, from stasher bags, to low waste makeup. Its such a great place to start and continue your low waste journey whole supporting a small business owner!

The Collective is a LOVELY sustainable supply shop/bulk refillery with an amazing owner and friendly staff. It is the perfect place if you are looking to incorporate more sustainable goods into your everyday life. Jamie does such an amazing job of curating her stock and can tell you all about all the different things her shop has to offer. With allergy season right around the corner, I highly recommend the eucalyptus shower steamers. Those will clear your sinuses so quick, thank us later. Don't forget to bring a jar! Though, they do have some packaged up for ya if you forget. Outside of selling you all of you sustainability needs, The Collective is all about community and equity. Jamie has put her heart and soul into creating a safe space in her shop for everyone. It is front and center on the website. MORE JUSTICE. MORE PEACE. MORE SUSTAINABILITY.

The collective may be my favorite store to ever exist. I love being able to support local while also focusing on being sustainable. Jamie (and the other employees) are so welcoming and I always look forward to the meaningful conversations I get to have while I’m there. The collective is my “happy place” and I couldn’t love it more. ♥️

Yelp
I love this business and what it stands for. So inclusive, authentic, and welcoming. I love having a refill option available locally!

Yelp
The spot is small but mighty and has everything from toilet paper and toothbrushes to stasher bags and dish soap refill stations to help reduce the plastic and single use items in your life. Items that I have purchased so far to help reduce single use plastic in my life is Bamboo fork, spoon and knife set Cloth napkin Bamboo tooth brush Cloth paper towels Refillable glass floss container Every time I go they are adding new products. The owner does regular updates on new things added to the shop on their instagram and facebook.

Yelp
My daughter introduced me to this place knowing I would love it and she was right! Small (very small) woman (and her feline partner, Sophie) owned business that currently has limitations due to Covid (you cannot enter the shop but shop from the walk up door, wearing a mask. One customer at a time. You can also order ahead and make an appointment if you cannot shop during the limited hours). Check often as there always seems to be new sustainable products or others that are back in stock. So far, I've purchased very absorbent cleaning cloths, facial soap and moisturizer in containers that you bring back for re-use, and reusable silicone food covers. Many products are offered in bulk. Can't wait for the toilet bombs to be back in stock. Jamie is happy to answer your questions and despite the one customer at a time rule, I did not feel rushed. Jamie's mission is a breath of fresh air in a world of big box, impersonal stores.

Yelp
For anyone who is interested in environmental-sound products or is simply trying to reduce their waste, then The Collective is the shop for you. The owner, Jamie, does a ton of research into sustainable products before she offers them for purchase and she is always ready to explain the pros and cons of all products that she sells. I have made many swaps from traditional beauty and household products to more sustainable options through The Collective and have seen similar if not better results from the goods that the business provides. Highly recommend!
