6 City Club Hotels In the U.S. That Don’t Require Membership - AFAR

"Set in a Victorian brownstone and founded in 1890 as the nation’s first college club for women, this small, historic property has 12 guest rooms—half with bay windows and decorative fireplaces—and individually themed decor referencing specific colleges (for example, one room reflects Smith College colors). About half the rooms are configured for single travelers and some share bathrooms; rates typically include a continental breakfast. Its central location is a short walk from the Public Garden and Boston Common, making it an affordable, history-rich option for solo travelers." - Pat Tompkins

I loved everything about this charming, quirky historic building. The only thing missing was ghosts! The staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s really a gem.

This is a fantastic place to stay in Boston. The location is within walking distance to the train station, Copley place, airport shuttle bus drop off/pick up point, beautiful Boston common park and many wonderful restaurants and cafes. Common wealth Avenue is a fabulous place for a walk. The hotel itself is superb. The rooms are decorated amazingly beautiful. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The history of the club is also very interesting to read. I would highly recommend this place and I would definitely come back.

Google
Wonderful, friendly, clean and comfortable. Beautiful old building in great location - the breakfast was good & fresh and nicely presented each day. The drinks and snacks provided all day and night in the breakfast room was a nice touch when travelling with a hungry teenager! |The only reason we put 4 out of 5 was because of the loud and old air conditioning unit in our room which made it hard to sleep without earplugs. There was a fan provided too which was quieter. Not a huge thing and hopefully can be upgraded at some point because everything else was great and fantastic value for money in a lovely location.

We were here June 29,2024 for my nephew’s wedding. Stayed overnight in a king suite with a beautiful private bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, outstanding decorated bedroom overlooking the park between Commonwealth Ave. the price was great too. Will defiantly stay there again and recommend to everyone. A hidden gem. And a great continental breakfast

What a hidden gem! I stayed here in late December and it was such a lovely quiet neighborhood with really well appointed rooms. Mine was very spacious, with great appointments - all of them have been designed by a different local interior designer - so each is one of a kind. The continental breakfast was generous (and great hours) and the location can't be beat - easy to walk to lots of restaurants, the Green Line, the Boston Central Library. Staff was very communicative and the room was very quiet each night (love that there are no TVs in the rooms!). Wifi was great as well.

Clean rooms and great staff in an amazing location. Breakfast was very good. We loved the fact that they have coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit and cookies available all the time. Nice touch!

Lovely, quaint location to stay in Boston. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and beautiful. Will definitely return the next time we visit the city. Great location. Highly recommend.

Google
Excellent location. Easy to walk to many sites. 2 blocks to green line’s Arlington T. ||I stayed 5 nights in a room with a shared bath. Both were spotless. There were 4 rooms on my floor, 2 of which were en-suites. I only had a slight wait for the bathroom once, having to share with just one other room. There is only shampoo & soap in the bathroom, no conditioner or lotion. ||The bed was extremely comfortable. The room was well-lit with several lighting sources except for the area next to the mirror. I used the hallway mirror, with the light streaming in from the skylight, to put on makeup. There was no closet just a coat rack with hangers on it, which was perfectly fine. ||There is a satisfying send-off of a cold continental breakfast each morning from 7:30-10. There’s 24-hour tea/coffee, fruit & cookies here, which is a nice plus after a full day out. There’s a fridge for shared use here, none in the room. It’s a nice area to meet other guests, if you’re so inclined. ||The staff is the best here. All the staff greeted me every time I passed them. They are so friendly & helpful! The office insightfully offered off-the-beaten-track sightseeing options. Communication from them before I got here was clear. The office is open during the day. You are given codes for the front door & your room. ||I found the area around the hotel very quiet, but I am from a major city & live on a noisy, main street. My room faced Commonwealth St. There was an A/C unit, that I didn’t use in the window, letting in some noise but it didn’t affect me. They do offer earplugs. ||When I’m on vacation, I want to sleep peacefully. However, my big complaint here is that I was woken up on 2 mornings by the staff. The weekend staff was so quiet. Yay! During the week the woman cleaning rooms & the man were very loud, especially the woman. They were carrying on loud, personal chitchat both in the hallway & in the room next to me with the door open. I could even hear her from the floor below. Voices carry even more in a house! Another morning a contractor was in evaluating repairs. As he went from floor to floor with a staff member, they loudly chatted & laughed while banging walls as his cellphone rang loudly. Kudos that they are maintaining this lovely building. However, a heads up would have been extremely appreciated. I would not have planned to sleep in that day & would have adjusted my bedtime. It also would have been better if this appointment was in the afternoon & not first thing Monday AM, which I realize may not have been possible. ||I’m not sure if I would stay here again. On the one hand I loved it here. On the other hand, I value my sleep & get quite annoyed when I’m woken up unnecessarily.

Yelp
I attended a baby shower here, and it was the perfect venue for the event! The floral wallpaper and design of the room are so pretty and elegant. The decor, along with the fancy cups and saucers, make you feel ready for tea time! In addition to the caffeinated bevvy options, there was a great selection of drinks from the bar including a classic mimosa, bellini, and a kir royale (which I selected since it's a lovely pink color, and they're having a girl!). The brunch food options were all so tasty, from a selection of Blackbird Donuts and other pastries to potatoes, bacon, omelet, and yogurt parfaits. There were also brownies and mini cheesecakes for dessert PLUS the baby shower cake, which the helpful venue staff took away to cut and serve after the couple cut the initial piece. After eating, the party migrated over to the far side of the room where there are couches, so we could watch the couple open gifts. It's great that there's a variety of seating options in the space. I would recommend this venue for an event like a bridal shower, baby shower, mother's day brunch, sorority brunch, or other gathering where you're going for a classy, feminine vibe. The staff really helped the day go smoothly, which helped us shower the couple with love... and have a great time doing it!

Yelp
It just simply has lost its ambiance and ability to serve its loyal clientele. The servers were overwhelmed. Service was incredibly slow thus the food arrived cold and some items very hot. It is not the first time. We stopped our visits to then Villa as the bartenders were fighting over clients. It was awkward and miserable. It should be a nice casual dinner. Attentiveness is lacking in too many areas. Sadly, seek another option.

Yelp
we were first-timers in boston, and this b&b was such an amazing introduction to the city. It felt more like a family home than staying at a hotel! when you first walk in, gentle music greets you. they literally have a plate of yummy cookies ready 24/7 in the dining room area. the building/room itself was so quaint and full of character, not to mention the amazing location! All of it will make you want to stay longer. we especially loved perusing the multiple books on the clubs history, they sure don't skip the small stuff when it comes to hospitality! If you have the chance to stay here- do it!! It will become one of your favorites, just like it did for us :)

Ainslie P.

Yelp
Be forewarned that sometimes if you stay here, all of the best parts of this historic brownstone will be completely closed off to you as a B&B guest, leaving only a rather dingy entrance, hallways, and your room. The beautiful drawing room, dining room, and ballroom were closed off to us and nowhere to be found. I felt completely misled by the photos on the website and, frankly, cheated out of a wonderful stay. Though the club kindly refunded me for one of our two rooms for the night, we still paid almost $400 for a stay we didn't use--I had my mother with us on a vacation and was embarrassed by this place, so we left and checked into a nearby, elegant, historic hotel for the night for less money than we were being charged here. I do think some guests have a very different experience, judging by other positive reviews, and maybe you will luck out and have a wonderful stay. Just know that that won't always be the case and make sure that's okay with you. I appreciated the manager's willingness to work with me on a refund, but am disappointed to still have been made to pay so very much for so very little in return.

Yelp
I hosted a baby shower for 40 people here after 2 Boston restaurants did not respond to inquiries about using their private spaces. What a gem of a place! A beautifully appointed venue tucked in Back Bay that you can easily miss walking by. You work directly with the chef when setting up your event-so convenient to have as the main point person! Chef Bussell worked with a variety of food allergies without batting an eye. Not only was the food fabulous (crazy good actually), but the linens, flowers they provided, and the mimosa bar all exceeded our expectations! staff was great too, everyone always had a smile on their face. I continue to receive notes from guests regarding how much they enjoyed everything. I would definitely have another event here.

Yelp
Wonderful bed and breakfast in a spectacularly convenient location on Commonwealth Ave just a block south of the Boston Gardens. I attended my niece's wedding there a few years ago and held my son's wedding there this week. It is a beautiful venue for a small wedding, with gorgeous decor and superb food and service.

Yelp
I almost hesitate to write a review for this place because I want it to be my little secret. This bed & breakfast is a slice of paradise in Boston. I can't think of a better location. It's perfectly between Copley Square and the Public Gardens and just a block away from Newbury Street. I didn't have to take public transportation for my whole stay. There's breakfast in the pantry every morning, coffee available all day, and cookies at night! I stayed in one of the single rooms with a shared bathroom. I was concerned about sharing the bathroom, but I honestly never ran into the other guest and it was always clean and well maintained. The B&B strikes a perfect balance of being charming and vintage with some light modern touches. By that I mean there were no issues with the wifi, heat, water pressure, or overall comfort. I can't forget to mention the pleasant and helpful staff that was always helpful and available when you needed them. I look forward to returning in the spring.

Yelp
Wow...what a gem for a nice stay in Boston. For the price and the details of the hotel (centrally located, very safe, classic old charm B&B and breakfast/tea included), this place is the top place I would consider on the top of my list for my next stay in Boston for convenience, comfort and value for money (does this combination really exist elsewhere even)? I was in town for a flight transit in Boston overnight and ended up looking online for a no frill place to stay last minute and ended up finding the College Club of Boston on a travel search engine by accident. What a nice surprise. The B&B staff was responsive to my inquiry when I let them know that I would be arriving late into the night. They gave me all the necessary instruction and it was quitr on point. The hotel's location is as safe and convenient as you can get..just a block or two from Arlington T (green line), Copley, and Newbury Street...and a stay includes a nice continental breakfast as well. I love that they even provided a bathrobe and 24 hr (varied) tea / coffee station as well. For the price I got ($86 net a night..what a steal!). And the amenities it offers, other places simply cannot beat such value! This will definitely be the first place I look forward to booking on my next trip to Boston. P.S. shared bathroom with one other room...but the bathroom us kept clean and you never really see your neighbor anyway!

L L.

Yelp
BE AWARE. Just be aware that if you make a reservation for a room at the B&B and you need to cancel that reservation--even if you do so well in advance of arrival--they still charge you a significant fee per night. It's very easy to miss this information when you book and to assume that you are booking into a regular B&B. In fact their policies are closer to a "strict" AirBNB model, and they are not flexible.

Yelp
We had our wedding here on 10/8/2017 (ceremony only). The venue is phenomenal... very classic Boston, in an old brownstone with beautiful crown moulding, artwork, wallpaper, rugs-- name something old and gorgeous. This place has it. I searched high and low for something with this much class without an insane price tag, and I found this hidden gem. Everyone raved about our wedding, and I feel fortunate I found the College Club. It made our day that much more magical!

Alice Y.

Yelp
I am so happy I found this hidden gem for my first trip to Boston--I've never written reviews until now, but the College Club was such a great experience. The location, price and quality of the rooms is unparalleled (the decor may not be for everyone, but I loved it). I shared a bathroom but never even saw the other person. Everything was amazingly clean! I will definitely be coming back next time I am in Boston and recommending it to friends and family! I had a much better stay here than I have in some hotels that cost twice as much!

Yelp
I would definitely stay here again. The room was neat, and antique looking, with a nice shower and sink. A big comfy bed. Good WiFi. It had wonderful windows out onto the Greenway. This hotel is right in the middle of a red brick residential area, and is super close to all of the downtown Boston things to do. The only things I would change are: 1) supply the rooms with hair conditioner, and 2) supply the rooms with body lotion. (you do get a conditioning shampoo, a body wash/hand soap, small make-up remover wipes, a hair net thing and a shoe buffer.) The continental breakfast included boiled eggs, coffee selection, tea, milk, juice, yogurt, apples, bread and toaster, and fruit cups. If you're looking for a more reasonably priced place to stay in downtown Boston, bring your own hair conditioner and lotion and it will be a 100% marvelous time. :)

Yelp
I had my baby shower here this past weekend (12/10) and it was magical! The room was gorgeous, the food was delicious and the service was super thorough and warm. My guests and I had a fantastic time. Thank you so much!

Yelp
I visit the College Club monthly for Boston Women Communicators meetings. The meeting space on the 2nd floor is beautiful, with ample seating and a mural painted on the wall. The food is always delicious (thanks chef Jessie!) and the staff very kind and attentive. I feel the College Club is a hidden gem. I had no idea it existed before attending BWC meetings here, and now I recommend it to any friends who are visiting Boston and need a room. Every guest room in the bed & breakfast is individually designed, by alumni from local colleges. Each is more pretty than the next. You will not be disappointed by the College Club. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I hosted a bridal tea and stayed at the B&B. Both were amazing! The food for the tea was delicious and the wait staff were exceedingly helpful and accommodating. The space was a great size for our group, and it was nice to be able to spend part of the shower in the lounge with couches and comfy chairs for games and opening gifts. Remy, the chef and event planner, was easy to work with and was very responsive to all of my questions. The rooms in the B&B are gorgeous. I love the spaciousness and the high ceilings. The beds were comfortable and the little touches, such as make up remover towelettes, were so helpful and thoughtful.

Yelp
2nd Visit...loved it again...great location, great room....breakfast is coffee, breads, oatmeal, etc....if you want eggs, etc....there are other places in the BB....will visit again.

Yelp
Very interesting place. I didn't stay in a fancy room but it was fine. Clean and quirky. Funny photos on the walls of the stairway of alumni. This is as 'Boston' as it gets. If you're from the west coast you'll eat this up. Real keys like old fashioned. I just stayed for one night. You can't get a better location. Very traditional New England. Old in a good way. Cool stay. Kind of thought my room would be nicer but then again... it was a single. Probably for a couple you get a view of Commonwealth.

Yelp
If you ever wondered what it was like to stay in a restored antique museum house, this is the place to stay. It is located walking distance to The Public Garden, and a nice central location to get around Boston. I came here with a group of friends. We booked two double rooms and one single room. The double rooms were very spacious and had private bathrooms, while the single room was quite small and had a shared bathroom with the other single rooms on the floor. But, seriously, I think we may have been the only people in the place. All the rooms are themed and decorated to represent a Women's College, and the pictures on the walls are of old turn of the century yearbook pics from the college represented in the room! If not a museum, this place almost feels like you are staying at someone's well maintained great grandmother's house that has been in the family for a century or so. The furniture is either antique, or period piece to go along with whatever college theme assigned to it. The keys to the rooms are antique too, so, carrying around an old iron key instead of a key card was kind of cute and a nice change from the usual. They had a continental breakfast (boiled eggs, english muffins, toast and jelly, danishes, etc.) but the best part was the coffee. They had a machine with functions for latte, cappuccino, mocha, hot cocoa, etc., and I made full use of it ;) Check in was not traditional. They gave you a door code via e mail, and then just left your key in an envelope on the front desk. They have one groundskeeper who actually stays there, but, he just makes sure the place is o.k. and sets out breakfast. I really liked this place. It was cozy and private. I had a window facing out to the street and there was some noise, but nothing enough to keep me awake. Just white noise. I will probably stay here again if I go back to Boston. It was something cool and different, after living in standard hotels for a while.

Yelp
I cannot praise the College Club enough. I am not a fan of the grandmotherly decor, but regardless I was overwhelmed as I came in with how beautiful, clean, and well-maintained the place is. My room was twee and covered in doilies, but so, so very welcoming and comfortable. There was a great desk for working, there was an excellent reading lamp, there was an actual dresser and actually useful closet, and there was a pile of reading materials, from magazines to pop science and random fiction. I think the thing I most appreciated was that this is the sort of hostel that lets guests take care of themselves. I was coming in very late, 1am, and their office hours are only until 6pm. But it was no problem, no hassle - they simply send you the door code and leave an envelope with your name on it on the entryway table. In the room itself, there was a pile of extra blankets on a shelf in the closet, if you're a chilly sort of sleeper, like I am. And in the morning there's a nice serve-yourself breakfast laid out in the dining area. (Posted: business casual attire requested, har har.) Possibly the most amazing thing about this place, however, is the price. I snagged a single (with the bathroom down the hall, shared with only one other room) for only $80. Seriously? In the Back Bay? I can't imagine that this will last forever. Go, go now! Stay at the College Club! While you still can! This is one of the few hotels I've ever stayed in that imbued me with an active desire to visit again.

Yelp
I recently had my wedding take place at the College Club and it was extraordinary. The wedding took place during a particularly difficult time, due to the Boston Marathon bombings and the subsequent manhunt that shut down the city the day before the wedding... however, Jesse stayed in contact with me every step of the way and we were able to figure things out. He was even able to coordinate with my other vendors to ensure that everything would run smoothly. During the wedding, the food was excellant, the venue was beautiful, and everything was perfect. Jesse and the staff were friendly, helpful, and overall amazing. While I don't plan to ever need another wedding, I would definately come back here if I could! 5 stars!

Yelp
Good location -- you're only 2 baby blocks away from the Arlington T stop, and a few more from the Copley one. If you like to window shop, Newbury Street is right behind this place, and it's also pretty close to the Prudential Mall. I stayed in one of the smallest rooms in the place, and "checking in" wasn't really much of a process. I arrived, got buzzed in, and picked up my room keys from the front table. My room (Oberlin) is tiny, but I don't mind that at all. It's perfect if you're staying solo, but may be too small if you're staying with someone else. The bed is twin-sized and surprisingly comfortable. There's another roll-out bed stuffed into the closet if you need it. The decor is adorable, and it's very much like you're staying in the guest room of a little old lady's home. The floors are creaky, but that's to be expected. Guests are asked to take the suuuuper slow elevator after 9pm because the stairs are EXTRA creaky and they don't want to disturb other guests. As the others have mentioned, you share a bathroom, but it was never an issue while I was staying here. I never once ran into anyone else who needed to use the bathroom when I did. The walls are kinda thin -- I could hear my neighbor snoring all night long. Not an issue for me, but if you need absolute quiet, this may make you a little crazy. Also, the Oberlin room in particular has a window that's right above a flag, so on particularly windy days, you can hear it clanking around out there. Just another thing for light sleepers to note. Wi-fi was painfully slow and kept dropping out. I could barely check my email, let alone try to run Netflix. But at least it's free, I guess!

Yelp
Excellent place to stay. Found it on yelp and wow. Very small and intimate. The give you a door code to get into the building because they are not always there. Small dining room on the lower level that has continental breakfast (cereal, apples/bananas, toast/bagels, hard boiled eggs, and yogurt). Internet in each room. Doesn't feel like you are staying with anyone else - even if you have to share a bathroom, I am not sure who you are really sharing it with. By shared, they should say not connected to your room. It was great. Oh and the location was perfect too.

Yelp
My wife and I got married at the College Club of Boston, and it was the most amazing experience. We had to plan a wedding from overseas, and Remy, the College Club's executive chef and event planner, made the experience incredibly easy and smooth. She was top notch at communication, and always had time to check in with us, even months ahead of our wedding date. She also made sure to be on top of details we hadn't even thought of, making herself invaluable in our own planning! Remy went the extra mile to give our event her attention and care, adding touches that made our wedding feel perfect for us. One example was how Remy organized some craft beers for our dinner that the College Club didn't normally carry, which made us and plenty of our guests very happy. Remy is also an excellent chef, serving us the best wedding food we'd ever had. There were some foodies among our guests with high standards, and even they were very impressed with the quality of her food. We also had two vegetarians and a vegan on our guest list, and they were served with great care and attention. The vegan alternative to the main dishes was generous and just as delicious as what everyone else was eating. The venue itself is beautiful, and easily fit our group of 40 people. There was nothing for us to worry about during the wedding, everything was taken care of for us by the fantastic College Club staff and by Remy. We stayed in the College Club's Boston University room for two nights for the wedding. The house is beautifully restored, and almost all the furniture in the rooms antiques. Because of the age of the building, the rooms are giant (much bigger than you'd find in a regular hotel), and the ceilings very high. Check-in and check-out is a breeze. They are well situated for access to central Boston, right next to the Public Garden and the Arlington T stop. Overall, we felt very well taken of during our stay and during our event. We have nothing to complain about regarding the Club or anything that happened during the wedding, we only have great memories and gratitude that we were lucky enough to find the College Club as our venue in the first place. Thank you CCB and Remy! We're so glad we had you to make our special day such a happy one.

Yelp
Absolutely great. I highly recommend this hotel for everyone. The price was not expensive and the room was so big with pretty English decorations. If I back to Boston, I will definitely stay there again.

Yelp
Boston was the first part of a college tour for my daughter and I and chose this hotel due to it's location. We stayed for 3 nights in February. I didn't realize it would be such a charming place. There are room available with private and shared baths, We got a "Smith College" room (every room is named after a college) with 2 twin beds with private bath, and must explain that the bedroom was double the size of a typical hotel room. It had what seemed to be 12 ft ceilings decorated with what looked like chandelier mounts and molding from the colonial times. Wood plank floors, cast iron radiators for heaters, and a marvelous view. Not to mention, it was very clean and the beds were supportive and the mattresses did not sag one bit. I loved it. Now, if you need to get pampered with all the luxury big hotel services you should probably check out some other hotels. If you hare value conscious, and have no issues taking care of yourself in another city, you probably can't do better than this. Yes, the floors and stairs are creaky, and there won't be a TV in your room, but the WiFi is complementary and pretty fast, so you can enjoy your Netflix if you must your TV shows. Besides, most people have stuff to do during a visit to Boston and don't stay in their rooms too much. It was actually nice not having a TV since it brought more conversations with my teenage daughter and I felt like we bonded even more (thank you CCB). The small staff is genuinely good, helpful, nice people, the hotel itself is historically charming and the rooms are a great value for travelers who don't need the luxury fluff. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Boston.

Yelp
This is a beautiful inn in a wonderful location in Boston. The decor in the rooms is simple and classy, and the rooms themselves are quite large and elegant. Complimentary and simple breakfast is served every morning. I would gladly stay here again.

Yelp
I was attending a wedding about an hour away from Boston, and wanted to spend one night in the city itself. However, with the airfare and all the wedding stuff, my budget was stretched MIGHTY thin! And then, as if by magic, this place appeared on my Kayak search for $80 a night. If you are anything like I was, I know what you're thinking: "This place must be a dump"...nope "Well, then it's probably filthy"...uh-uh "In the worst part of town"...not even close The miracle of this place is that, if you are not looking for ultra-fancy trappings and don't need a concierge service, this is the the best damn deal you are gonna find for a hotel in Back Bay! Yes, the decor is a bit...musty feeling. Yes, the bed is a twin. But who cares?? The place is ultra clean, that twin is mighty comfy, the bathroom (which is shared if you have a singe, but I did not see a soul) is modern and nice. They have a serve-yourself breakfast, and even leave out late-night snacks like milk and cookies. So cute! Everything is so convenient- many things are walking distance, and train stops abound. This is a very self-service atmosphere, but that does not mean customer service has fallen by the wayside either --I had a whole day of exploring to do before my late evening flight, and they offer guests in this situation the chance to stash luggage in their closet for the day. For free. I don't know how much of a deal it is compared to other hotels if you get a double, but for what you get the price of a single can't be beat. Stay. Save. Love.

Yelp
I attended a wine tasting here last night sponsored by Bauer Wines and Spirits. What an amazing venue! Beautiful, historic brownstone building, with high ceilings, crown molding, and period decor. My friends and I felt like rich ladies of the manor sipping our wines and munching on hand passed appetizers. A large space, (2 floors) and I read they have guest rooms available to the public. Definitely a cool space to plan an event!

Yelp
A beautiful venue for our event--the perfect setting for a classy dinner and service by the College Club of Boston. The food prepared by Chef Chris Bussell was delicious and the cookies were the best chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies I'd ever had. The staff was kind, polite, and attentive, and had everything in place and ready to go (ex. the stereo, microphone, and table settings/buffet) when we arrived. They even printed a sign with a custom design for us on it in addition to fall decorations. The night flowed easily and our guests enjoyed their evening at the College Club of Boston.

Yelp
Stayed here with my husband over the long weekend and we were so happy we did. We had a great room with windows looking out onto Commonwealth Ave., a bookshelf full of books, our own bathroom, plenty of space, fireplace (just for looks) and king bed. A really unique spot on a beautiful street at a great location in Boston. Close to the green line @ Arlington & parking garage under Boston Common. Barely saw anyone else while we were there... very quiet. Didn't partake in the breakfast spread but it looked nice enough. Compared to the prices of other hotels in boston ($$$$) this is the way to go if you don't mind not having a TV, concierge, etc... Perfect for a busy tourist or visitor :)

Yelp
Outstanding deal for the price. This accommodation reminded me of when I lived in Europe. Charming and attractive decor. The weather outside ranged from -28 to -9 degrees (Fahrenheit) when I first got there, and it was a toasty welcoming when I checked in after hours. The location was perfect. Of course, everyone has choices but I was very glad I picked to stay here. I was walking distance from everything I wanted to see and access to public transport was too easy. The purpose of my trip was to shop for a university program and I was able to visit each institution without any problems. The perks were the snacks, tea and coffee available 24/7. The complimentary breakfast eliminated the hassle of making early morning decisions on where and what to eat. I would definitely stay again and have already encouraged my friends and family to stay there if they happen to be in the area. Thank you!

Yelp
So I've been saving up my 100th review for the place where I had my wedding, the College Club of Boston. It was absolutely amazing! The venue is beautiful, the food is phenomenally delicious, and Jesse is absolutely amazing at making sure that everything goes smoothly in the planning stages as well as on the wedding day itself. The few inevitable bumps we ran into were more than adequately smoothed out, and Jesse truly cares that you and your guests have a great wedding. Jesse has the planning of a wedding down to an art form, from timing the ceremony and reception to helping you come up with room configurations and menu choices for your budget, to making sure that the guestbook, favors, and gifts all end up put out and then put away where they belong. All I had to do was give the staff boxes, and I got them back at the end- there was literally no work for me on the wedding day once I brought everything in the door (or scheduled for it to be delivered.) Jesse has some great vendor recommendations, and while I wasn't able to use all of them, the ones I did use were excellent, affordable, very professional, and worked seamlessly as a team. All of the staff at the College Club is awesome and organized too, so you always receive consistent and caring customer service. The historic beauty of the venue thoroughly charmed us and our guests, and served the added bonus of eliminating the need for decorations. The guest room we rented to prepare for the wedding was large enough to accommodate me, 4 bridesmaids, 2 relatives and any other people who needed to be in the room with space to spare, and it was beautiful enough for the photographer to use it to take bridal photos. I would recommend that brides bring a lighted make-up mirror with them, since the bathroom vanity light is pretty dim. Since the room doesn't automatically come with the wedding, you should book a room on the same day you book your wedding! I received nothing but gushing compliments from everyone who attended my wedding, and my guests included a chef who's worked at 5-star restaurants and a woman who had attended a wedding so lavish it was featured on TV. Another one of my guests was wildly jealous, because his wedding venue cost more and wasn't nearly as nice. The College Club of Boston is truly a good value, too. I would heartily encourage anyone looking for a wedding venue to choose the College Club, and I will most definitely stay in the College Club when the day comes that I no longer call Boston my home. Choosing the College Club was the best decision I could have made.

Yelp
We had our wedding ceremony at the College Club of Boston. It was truly an amazing setting. Everyone loved the place, historic, great murals, amazing decor. Like other reviewers on here said, the co-ordinator Jesse was just brilliant!!

Yelp
This is a stunningly beautiful B&B in a great neighborhood with wonderful staff. It's like taking a trip back in time.I stayed in the Connecticut College room, which was huge and gorgeous and immaculate. The price was great! I didn't have the breakfast, but the dining room was lovely and full of lot's of tea choices. The only downside for me was that it was kind of hot. There was a small air conditioner in the window but it took a while for it to have an effect on the room temperature. Honestly, this was a minor discomfort. I would absolutely recommend this place!

Yelp
What a treat! My first time ever in Boston and my sweetie booked us two nights here. We arrived very early and were able to leave our suitcases inside while we explored the area. Our room (Wellesley) was spacious, authentically furnished, and very comfortable. For my first East Coast experience, the College Club of Boston set the bar very high.

Yelp
Just returned from Boston after running the marathon. (Yes, the one where the finish line explosions happened. Thankfully, I and all the runners and their families who were staying here were fine.) I don't think I could have done any better than College Club. I had a single room with a shared bath. The room was pretty tiny, but comfortable. The bed was great, and I slept better than I normally do on the road. The bathroom was immaculate, and it was easy to share with just one other person. The bedroom could have used just a couple more drawers, but I brought too much running gear anyway, so that probably isn't normally a problem. They do maid service every day, so everything stayed very clean and orderly. The location for doing the marathon was ideal. Just two blocks away from where I picked up my stuff from the baggage bus after the run, so I didn't have far to go in my exhausted state. The buses for the start line on marathon morning were on the other side of Boston Common, so that was easy to get to, maybe a 15 minute walk. The Arlington T station is just around the corner, maybe three blocks away, so that gave me access to everything in Boston. And it is central for all the sightseeing I did. I was in Boston for a week, so spent a lot of time going all over the city. The only time I used a cab was from the airport to here. They do a nice breakfast spread. Various teas and coffee drinks, three fruit juices, a few kinds of breads and cereals, fresh cut fruit, hard-boiled eggs, etc. I have sort of a weird diet so just had the eggs, fruit, juices, and teas, so would have liked a bit more variety. But I was there a week, and someone without my eating choices will have more variety. So overall, this was a nice feature. And they even set everything up almost two hours early for those of us running the marathon and had to get to the buses between 6 and 7:30 AM. Great service, really caring! I wasn't sure whether I should give them five stars or not. Frankly, this is an older building with lots of creaks and "character," but quite well maintained and attractive. So it's not a "5-star hotel" as that is commonly used. But overall it was a great experience and the people were absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. And the free US long distance calls--a normal thing, not something special this time--was a blessing when the cell system went down and I was still trying to reach friends and family after the explosions. If I were sure I was going to qualify for the marathon again, I'd already be making my reservations for next year!

Yelp
This place is great. It's a cute, quaint little B&B in an amazing location in Boston. Not knowing anything about the city prior to my trip, I definitely felt like I lucked out with this booking. In a week in Boston, I stayed in three different places, a hostel, a nice Sheraton hotel, and the College Club. This was easily my favorite and will be my lodging of choice for any future trips to Boston.

Yelp
I can't speak highly enough of the College Club of Boston and of Jesse, the executive chef/event planner! We had our wedding there last weekend and it was more then I could have ever hoped for. The venue was beautiful - decorated with an enormous Christmas tree and lighted trimmings along the long staircase. Jesse, was attentive from beginning to end and helped keep the evening moving along with the help of his terrific staff. The food was fantastic and and his recommendation for a cake vendor was absolutely on target! Everyone I've spoken to said that they had a great time - and so did we! Three cheers for Jesse and the College Club of Boston!

Yelp
I hesitate to write this, as the College Club of Boston is obviously one of the best kept secrets in town. Apparently they are a local catering venue, but they also rent out decorator inspired rooms on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors, each named after a different school in the area and individually decorated. First, I should start with the location on Commonwealth between Arlington and Berkeley. The shops on Newbury and the restaurants on Boylston are in the immediate neighborhood and the Public Garden, Boston Common and Charles Street are just steps away. The T line (Arlington Station) is at the corner. The rooms are two types - doubles with a bath and singles with shared bath. I have a tiny (adorable) room and the reason the bath is in the hall is that the original construction put the door to the larger suite between this door and the bathroom. Lucky me, that means I got an outrageous deal. I was looking for a hotel during graduation week nothing was under $400; I got the entire weekend for that! There are no televisions (which is actually kind of a relief), but they have free wireless. The dining room downstairs has a pretty full continental breakfast (do it yourself bagels, pastries, cereals), and the coffee is available 24 hours. They even leave out little pastries at night. I went down to grab a coffee at 6am and found some little lemon tarts with raspberry cream--that makes waiting for the 9am opening of the spot on Charles Street a little more tolerable. The staff is here, but really background; efficient. This was a really big event for me (graduating from a masters program at BU the same year that I am eligible for SS) and the College Club helped to make it a most wonderful weekend! If I could live at the College Club and have this amazing weather all the time, Boston might be home.

Yelp
I loved my stay here. It's not really a hotel, and not really a B&B -- it's a serene, beautiful old house in a great neighborhood, where you can rent a spacious, antiques-furnished room and get an authentic taste of how the upper-crust lived in 19th-century Boston. It's clearly not for everyone, but if fitness rooms, lobby bars, chocolates on the pillow, etc. aren't important to you, I'd give it a try.

Yelp
If you want old school charm and comfort and don't mind no tv in the room, this is a delightful place to stay in the heart of Boston. The building is owned and maintained by a private social club that is over 100 years old, but you don't need to be (or know) a member of the club to stay here. The prices are comparable with the better hotels in Boston, but the intimacy, the quiet, and the coziness make it the place we'll call our home away from home whenever we stay in Boston. It's an ideal location for anything in downtown Boston- our activities took us to Chinatown, the North End, the Museum of Fine Arts and Symphony Hall. All were easily accessible by subway from there. In better weather we'd happily walk the block or two to the Public Gardens, but freezing rain and snow kept us indoors for most of our visit. The rooms are named after various colleges in and around Boston, and were updated in 2008 by representatives of the various colleges. They are spotlessly maintained. We stayed in the Simmons room, which had framed photos of Simmons College students of yore, as well as some nice antiques, a bookcase full of books of every variety, and even a cd player with some cds to listen to! Not your average hotel, where the tissue box is embedded in the wall; this place assumes that "nice" people like you wouldn't stoop to stealing the goodies. Breakfast is good-quality continental, with toast, bagels, English muffins, cream cheese, butter and jam, as well as granola or Cheerios, and oj or cranberry juice. The coffee maker is available 24/7, and during the afternoon there are delicious home-made cookies, as long as they last. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Fabulous location in Back Bay, with the Boston Gardens down the street. Also close to public transportation. My room was huge and quiet, and the breakfast room was very pleasant. It reminded me of London B&Bs I've stayed at.

Yelp
This place was amazingly charming, a 5 level brownstone quiet, quaint and within walking distance to everything between Beacon Hill and Copley Square. The staff was courteous and attentive. The continental breakfast, served 7:30-10 am in this cozy almost intimate dining room, was simple yet charming. The entire building from the trafficked entryway to the shared bathroom was spotless. Yes shared bathroom, on my floor with other guest. However, couldn't even tell I shared it with others. I marveled at how super clean it was. I definitely would suggest lodging here to anyone who can especially appreciate high ceilings, detailed architecture with intricate crown molding, original wood and antique furniture. The staff leaves in the evening, but the owner lives down the street and instructions are provided for emergencies. At night there was adequate lightning, I noticed working smoke detectors and a fire extinguishers on each level. The entrance is doubled doored and guest are provided a pound key code. This ensured me of my safety.

Yelp
We hosted our wedding at the College Club and the whole experience was phenomenal. Jesse, their event coordinator and head chef, was amazing. He helped us plan a great menu and recommended some amazing vendors (which saved us money and a lot of time). He went above and beyond to help us pull together some of the elements of our reception. The day of, he and his staff took care of absolutely everything. His food was also really delicious! Everyone was so warm, hardworking, and excited, that it really made our event special. I would absolutely recommend the College Club to anyone planning a Boston wedding for about 40-80 people. (I think they can go up to about 100, but it would be tight).

Yelp
We just had our wedding at the College Club and Jesse was great. I would recommend the place for a wedding without hesitation. We chose a cocktail style wedding reception and the food was great. Everyone at the wedding commented about what a wonderful time they had. We really couldn't have asked for a better place. Jesse did everything for us and was perfect at his job.

Yelp
Great experience, great place to stay. Very clean, excellent location.... walking distance to SO many Boston sites! The staff was great and very friendly. Edith was extremely helpful! Loved the continental breakfast. "Just right! " The afternoon cookies were a real treat! Our room had our own bathroom which made our stay very private. I never heard any noise and felt like I was at home! The cleaning staff were very considerate and hard working! Great rates as well ! Great Boston experience.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here when we visited to celebrate our anniversary and see the fireworks on the 4th of July. The room on the top floor was very comfortable and quiet. It was a very easy walk to the Esplanade and Boston Common. The breakfast was not memorable - definitely a continental breakfast. It could've been a bit more generous. The staff was polite and were even able to get us in our room early but they are not there 24 / 7 so be prepared to be on your own. This is a great place for a couple or if you want a bed and breakfast in the city.

Yelp
Where do I begin....the best venue for a small wedding and I can not say enough about Remy Kolean the Executive Chef/Event Director and her amazing staff. Everything was perfect. Thank you Remy!
