This Scenic Fall Foliage Train Ride Is One of the Best Ways to Experience Autumn on the East Coast

"A Plymouth inn and spa that hosts train guests for a hot buffet lunch served in its dining room; the seasonal, fall-themed meal typically includes soup, roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and butternut squash, plus a vegetarian option (menu can vary). Travelers can also browse an on-site gift shop offering New Hampshire–made products before reboarding the train." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. I had to attend a ''celebration of life' that was being held at the CM so I wanted to stay right on sight for convenience. The front desk clerk went above and beyond to find me the very last room they had in the main building. It was a pet friendly room and even though I did not bring a pet, I didn't mind. The room was very clean and super cozy with a fireplace and rustic decor. The tub looked brand new and I enjoyed a little deck for some fresh air. |Really my only complaint is that people coming in and out of the rooms on the first floor would let their doors slam shut and causing a very loud bang that startled me and shook my wall. That happened several times during my stay waking me on the first night but the second night (a non weekend evening) was much quieter. Some buffers for those doors would make a big difference. |Friendly staff and CC the cat was a nice touch. I ate at Fosters (on-site bar and restaurant) both nights and had a good experience. Nice place to stay if you don't care about having the 'latest and greatest' amenities - it had everything I needed...it was lovely and next time I may just bring the dog. :)

I loved the charm and character of the common man inn. While a little out of date, it was comfortable and quaint. The pool was warm, hot tub had a nice atmosphere with the waterfall (though it was splashy) and we enjoyed the sauna. The breakfast was delicious. Tom, the cook, made sure to advise me that they aren’t a celiac safe kitchen but they were able to accommodate my gluten sensitivity with gluten free bread on my breakfast sandwich. The gym was a bit sticky (maybe because it was old equipment) but we appreciated the ability to exercise. Overall, it was a good value and we enjoyed our stay.

Exceptional stay, chill, authentic New England experience, so many things to do. Food at the inn was amazing and the restaurants in the area serve delicious fresh meals. Staff were always kind and helpful, also funny. Our pups were welcomed with treats with their names on them, dog beds and bowls. Highly recommend, we will be back.

We were really excited to stay here, as the ads online looked awesome!||First, the positives. Our room was amazing! It was huge, full of character, and our 13 year old loved it. The TV didn't work; someone from the front desk came up to fix it and said that many of them are fussy and they are doing this all the time.||The on-site restaurant was just ok. Nothing special, but decent if you don't feel like going out.||One of the reasons we were excited to go to this place was to use the pool facilities and hot tub. Well, the pool was FREEZING so we couldn't use that, and the hot tub was scalding hot. Like, dangerously so. Like, I felt like I burned my toes when I put them in. I told the front desk, and they said that nothing can be done! I mean, how about change the hot tub thermostat? We were not pleased.||Breakfast was lackluster. The room was dark and sad, and there was no water to drink. I guess there was stuff in another room but there was no indication of that. Pastries were gross and crumbly.||I'm giving it three stars because we loved the room, but overall not worth the money.

We stayed 2 nights for a wedding and had a quiet and clean room on the 2nd floor. Kaitlyn was very helpful when we checked in ! The Inn is an old mill with several of the original artifacts remaining. For dinner our waitress was Emily and she was most helpful and friendly. For dinner I had a beet and Brussels sprouts salad with salmon which was tasty. Parts of the hotel, like the carpet needs to be replaced. The fitness center is small but can get a workout in.

I rarely leave reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience. I booked a prenatal massage here hoping for a relaxing, professional treatment, but unfortunately it was very disappointing. The service itself was less than mediocre. My prenatal massage didn’t feel like a specialized or professional treatment—it was so underwhelming. For the price point and expectations of a spa, I left feeling unsatisfied and definitely not relaxed. What made the experience even worse was the way tipping was handled. At checkout, we were strongly encouraged to tip 20%, and when we chose not to tip that much, we were made to feel shamed. A tip should reflect the quality of the service, not be a forced or guilt-driven decision. If the spa expects a 20% tip, then the service quality needs to align with that expectation. Additionally, there was a billing issue. An add-on I selected was accidentally left off my bill at checkout. Instead of calling or confirming with me, the spa went ahead and charged my card on file after I had already left, and only emailed me about it afterwards. Charging a client’s card without prior approval is not acceptable business practice. Between the poor service, the uncomfortable pressure around tipping, and the questionable handling of charges, this was not the relaxing or positive experience I had hoped for. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this spa, especially for anyone seeking prenatal care or expecting professional-level service.

Went in for an hour facial. It ended at 45 minutes. The service felt rushed and not really relaxed. When I asked at the desk she didn't really seem to know. She said when she is done with your face then the service is done. What? I asked to take some money off due to the shortage of service. She had to go find a manager which he gave me the discount but then added the tip on the original service amount not the adjustment amount. So I didn't have a choice on tip , it was added automatically. I don't think that is fair to have a tip added. It should be customer choice. Especially where my service was cut short. The esthetician was sweet and right out if school. Which is fine but definitely needs some additional training and service needs to slow down to be more relaxed.

Common Man owns a lot in town. We were at the Lodge next door. Clean and cute but should be painted inside doors of the rooms and halls.A bit shabby and dated for the price. Ate at their restaurant in town in Nostalgic Store. Took forever and every order was wrong. Neat store.
