This Scenic Fall Foliage Train Ride Is One of the Best Ways to Experience Autumn on the East Coast

"A Plymouth inn and spa that hosts train guests for a hot buffet lunch served in its dining room; the seasonal, fall-themed meal typically includes soup, roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and butternut squash, plus a vegetarian option (menu can vary). Travelers can also browse an on-site gift shop offering New Hampshire–made products before reboarding the train." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. The inn is a cute place. The amenities and inn itself were nice and the free breakfast was great. Depending on when you are there, rates get very high in the popular times, more so than we think it is worth. The beds could be more comfortable and the room was a bit musty. We had friends in a different room that was much nicer so it might be hit or miss. They host a lot of weddings and the rooms are not very sound proof if your neighbors are partying. Overall we had a nice weekend!

I had to attend a ''celebration of life' that was being held at the CM so I wanted to stay right on sight for convenience. The front desk clerk went above and beyond to find me the very last room they had in the main building. It was a pet friendly room and even though I did not bring a pet, I didn't mind. The room was very clean and super cozy with a fireplace and rustic decor. The tub looked brand new and I enjoyed a little deck for some fresh air. |Really my only complaint is that people coming in and out of the rooms on the first floor would let their doors slam shut and causing a very loud bang that startled me and shook my wall. That happened several times during my stay waking me on the first night but the second night (a non weekend evening) was much quieter. Some buffers for those doors would make a big difference. |Friendly staff and CC the cat was a nice touch. I ate at Fosters (on-site bar and restaurant) both nights and had a good experience. Nice place to stay if you don't care about having the 'latest and greatest' amenities - it had everything I needed...it was lovely and next time I may just bring the dog. :)

My teenager who is a new driver was participating at a Robotics competition at Plymouth State Univ. He drives an EV car and he ended up with 25% charge in the battery by the time he arrived at the competition. The remaining charge was not sufficient to drive back home. This place has an EV charging station that was occupied at the time. They allowed my son to park overnight and come back the next day and charge the car to drive back home. There was no reason for them to be generous and yet they helped my son. It speaks to the character of the wonderful staff and the owners. If they care for a random person who asked for help I assume they must deeply care about their customers too. Our family will always be greatful for the kindness shown and hope to one day repay it back by enjoying our stay here. Thanks again to the wonderful staff and ownership!!!

I loved the charm and character of the common man inn. While a little out of date, it was comfortable and quaint. The pool was warm, hot tub had a nice atmosphere with the waterfall (though it was splashy) and we enjoyed the sauna. The breakfast was delicious. Tom, the cook, made sure to advise me that they aren’t a celiac safe kitchen but they were able to accommodate my gluten sensitivity with gluten free bread on my breakfast sandwich. The gym was a bit sticky (maybe because it was old equipment) but we appreciated the ability to exercise. Overall, it was a good value and we enjoyed our stay.

We were really excited to stay here, as the ads online looked awesome!||First, the positives. Our room was amazing! It was huge, full of character, and our 13 year old loved it. The TV didn't work; someone from the front desk came up to fix it and said that many of them are fussy and they are doing this all the time.||The on-site restaurant was just ok. Nothing special, but decent if you don't feel like going out.||One of the reasons we were excited to go to this place was to use the pool facilities and hot tub. Well, the pool was FREEZING so we couldn't use that, and the hot tub was scalding hot. Like, dangerously so. Like, I felt like I burned my toes when I put them in. I told the front desk, and they said that nothing can be done! I mean, how about change the hot tub thermostat? We were not pleased.||Breakfast was lackluster. The room was dark and sad, and there was no water to drink. I guess there was stuff in another room but there was no indication of that. Pastries were gross and crumbly.||I'm giving it three stars because we loved the room, but overall not worth the money.

My wife and I had a wonderful massage at the spa from Shirley and Sheryl. We did not stay at the Inn. I would say my massage was the best I had ever had. A wonderful atmosphere, friendly people and we finished it off with a great soak in the Jacuzzi. I highly recommend!

Went in for an hour facial. It ended at 45 minutes. The service felt rushed and not really relaxed. When I asked at the desk she didn't really seem to know. She said when she is done with your face then the service is done. What? I asked to take some money off due to the shortage of service. She had to go find a manager which he gave me the discount but then added the tip on the original service amount not the adjustment amount. So I didn't have a choice on tip , it was added automatically. I don't think that is fair to have a tip added. It should be customer choice. Especially where my service was cut short. The esthetician was sweet and right out if school. Which is fine but definitely needs some additional training and service needs to slow down to be more relaxed.

Exceptional stay, chill, authentic New England experience, so many things to do. Food at the inn was amazing and the restaurants in the area serve delicious fresh meals. Staff were always kind and helpful, also funny. Our pups were welcomed with treats with their names on them, dog beds and bowls. Highly recommend, we will be back.

Yelp
Stayed here ahead of a family event that was also catered here. Room accommodations were a bit tired (tears in shades, worn carpeting) but clean. Staff was friendly. There are cheaper accommodations locally but didn't want to drive after the party. Event appeared to go well. Food was typical banquet food. Service was sometimes slow but generally ok A tip of $2 per night was automatically added to the bill which found out from the literature in the room and saw in the bill at checkout.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! So charming and unique. My friend and I came from Oklahoma City and stayed here as a bridesmaid for one of my friends' wedding in Plymouth, NH on September 21st at The Barn on the Pemi. We arrived late Thursday night and checked out early Sunday morning. Staff is so friendly and the chef who makes breakfast is very kind and helpful. The rooms are very clean and well-kept. The tvs were large, but not smart tvs - there was cable so we did a little bit of channel surfing to find movies each night to watch. Did the whole bedbug checking routine - and no bedbugs! Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash was provided in the shower, which made everything so much more convenient as a bridesmaid. Housekeeping cleaned out our trashcans and bathroom area while we were not in the room. A continental style breakfast along with a hot menu is served in a diner-like area by the lobby from 7 am - 10 am. I had a breakfast burrito one morning and scrambled eggs, oatmeal, and potatoes the morning of the wedding. We attended a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding at an event space in the Common Man Inn & Spa and it was lovely. The food provided by the Inn was phenomenal. I enjoyed New Hampshire specialty Haddock with mashed potatoes and veggies and white chocolate cheesecake with berries. The drink of the night was an apple cider cocktail - very delicious. Also provided were red and white wines at the table. A few days after my arrival in OKC, I received a call from Common Man Inn & Spa saying they had found some clothes in my room - and they offered to mail it to me - which I was very grateful for. Overall, I highly recommend this spot if you want something out of the ordinary and very cabin/camp feel for a weekend getaway. Also a great spot to host guests for a wedding party. Thanks for the good times!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to go on a little getaway prior to the arrival of our first baby. I knew I wanted an inn and spa, so after much research, I landed on the Common Man. Upon going to the website, I thought I had booked one of the suites, either Camp, Squam, or Lodge. Upon arrival, we did not get one of those suites, but got a suite nonetheless. That was definitely disappointing and a little confusing, as I was pretty confident I had booked one of the signature suites. There are no photos provided online for rooms other than a "sneak peek" which would've easily avoided any disappointment I felt. The error was probably mine, but it would've been nice to catch that before I arrived! The staff is incredible! We had to adjust the nights of our stay due to family purposes and they easily accommodated, and lowered the rate as it was not going to be during "prime" days. They were super friendly and even gave extra water bottles (which, please add a water fountain!! The ice machine is great, but it's super annoying to get water from the small machine in the cafe) Also, the spa staff is top notch. More on that later. I may have been set up to be disappointed by the room, simply because it wasn't at all what I thought it was. However, it was still nice. The bed was very comfy, linens were nice, and the pillows were very plush. I loved the jacuzzi tub, definitely took a nice bubble bath and thoroughly enjoyed it. The second morning, I did wake up to find quite a few ants in the bathroom. There was no food around, so it was a little disconcerting. Also, the mini fridge was incredibly smudged and very clearly, not wiped down from the previous guest. Other than that, we enjoyed it! The breakfast was good, but nothing to write praises about. It was a bit of a weird set-up; you have to ask the cook on hand to make any sort of hot food. There are also very few signs telling you what is complimentary and what's not. Good selection of teas, and good coffee! Now, the spa! I wish I could write a separate, 5 star review on that because it truly deserves it. As this was my babymoon, I really wanted a good pampering, and pamper me, they did! The night we arrived, I had a prenatal massage with Michelle. She is a lovely woman who is so, SO good at her job. We had a wonderful chat and I felt so relaxed and at ease throughout the whole thing. There was an issue with my reservation for the second half of the half day service, which I found out after my massage. The gal at the desk told me I wasn't in the system. They had just switched software and had been dealing with the after effects of that. She told me she would do what she could, and about 45 minutes later, she called and let me know one of the estheticians would come in early to provide me with my facial and mani/pedi. Kamah, my esthetician, was a lovely human. She was incredibly warm and welcoming and we had a great time throughout the appointment. I left feeling like a million bucks! I would most definitely come back for the spa, but I'm afraid the stay at the inn itself wasn't everything I hoped it would be. It was still an enjoyable space, but for the nightly rate, I felt some things could be improved upon!

Yelp
Overall, I really like this place. It definitely has a vibe and they stay 'on-brand' throughout the entire property, down to the signs for directions made out of faux twigs. It has a semi cartoony feel of a rustic inn and had loads of details (including an adorable cat who lives in the lobby!) that I found really charming. The room I booked was comfortable and had that cozy cottage vibe, but the functionality of the room was a little lacking. Firstly, I couldn't get my shower to change to faucet/bath mode. I tried pulling it, I tried pushing it. No dice. So, I was resigned to filling up the tub with the shower which cooled the water off so I was left with a tepid bath. Meh. Plus, when I laid down in the tub I noticed the wallpaper was peeling behind the toilet. That's a little too rustic for me. lol Add in a TV that was finicky about connecting to the cable and a teensy mini fridge (one of those small square deals) without a microwave in the room and I was left sort of underwhelmed. The amenities in the spa were pleasant with a few things to note: --The pool is somewhat small and didn't feel heated. When I arrived, two older women were swimming laps and in doing so, overtook the entire area. For a hotel of this size, it's rather undersized. It's also cool (not cold but not heated, which I actually prefer but it was advertised as heated) and needed to be cleaned better, as there were strands of hair floating about. --The hot tub looks impressive in photos but in actual usage is not really user-friendly. Firstly, the waterfalls create a kind of foam that makes the bottom impossible to see which, in turn, makes getting in very tricky. I couldn't see the first nor 2nd step in and to add insult to injury, their handrail was loose and jerked sideways when I leaned on it. Please be very careful getting in! My boyfriend wasn't so lucky and scraped his arm. Secondly, the loudness of the water feature and the spray it creates were more lightly irritating than relaxing. At the end of the day it's still an adequate hot tub, just not the best one I've been in. --The sauna was terrific! Got nice and hot. Since it's not readily apparent, push the middle button on the panel to the right of the door on the outside to turn it on. Ultimately you're paying for that home-y Cracker Barrel vibe but the actual bones of hotel need some work. They kind of hide these shortcomings with charm. I will likely stay here again but honestly, if you're looking for better quality/more amenities you can definitely find a hotel at a comparable price. But go here at least once for the ambiance.

Yelp
We had our wedding welcome dinner here for 100 guests. We chose the bbq dinner buffet and it was such a great choice. The chicken was so tender, it was difficult to pick up. The steaks were cooked peefectly. Our vegetarians were happy with the Mac n cheese. The issues were with the staffing. There didn't seem to be anyone around while we dined to ask questions. We were told that there was a separate vegan/veggie dish for those who wouldn't be eating from the buffet. One friend found someone to get the dish but the other friends and family didn't bother because they couldn't find anyone to ask. I was told that my mom could get her chicken without the bbq sauce but no one approached her. It was frustrating as the host to have to be the one running around on everyone else's behalf. The bar was a whole other issue. There was a wedding on the other side of the bar, so the staff was spread thin. Our bar line was out the door most of the night and it moved slowly. Considering we paid for an open bar (beer and wine) for the first hour, timing mattered. Common Man failed on that front. Despite the hiccups, everyone enjoyed the dinner. I just wish they were better staffed on the floor and behind the bar.

Chris W.

Yelp
We went with a tour group of 100 senior citizens for a buffet lunch. Soup was already on the table when we arrived. Served in paper cups it was cold and vegetables almost raw. Menu had been changed after our reservations were made. No salad. Dessert was dry and tiny and they ran out of it. We were given disposable plates and plastic utensils. Beverages were self serve. Staff wheeled large trash buckets between tables while we were still eating. Most disappointing outing ever.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! Accidentally came across it and now I don't want to leave!! This Gem of a hotel offers amazing food, (I'm a chef from New Orleans and I really really like it) the staff is so friendly and kind, even Tom/Fred the cafe chef. (He's a hoot-tip well!!!!) There is a heated indoor pool, a waterfall jacuzzi, 2 restaurants and a well stocked bar! The gift shop supports local artists and creators!!! And these rooms look like they are out of an ad for "home and garden mountain edition" it's so beautiful without being too much. Even during Xmas, it was so well done without being over the top. The bar manger Cass was an absolute delight! Funny, witty, and very helpful! I can't wait to come back. This became my new vacation spot. Great for couples, small family's, weddings, and romantic get aways. I don't normally post, and not getting paid to write this, but this quant and quiet spot in the mountains was worth shouting from the rooftops!!

Yelp
Room have many ants ! everywhere and not clean Spa: horrible experience made reservation for a 50th birthday relaxing weekend and they mistakenly cancelled our reservation. Could not provide any services for us. No management working the weekend an issue too.

Miguel V.

Yelp
The place is really cool and rustic inside the hotel and has a lot of items from its history and the history of Plymouth. We have walked through the restaurant and hotel looking at all the artifacts and pictures. The restaurant has really good food and the service is excellent.

Michael S.

Yelp
tai coburn booked me in. It was a great opportunity right before my girlfriends birthday which is exactly what I wanted and she accommodated every need that I wanted and made everything perfect. She helped me though every step of the way even during the check in pr and check out process.

Yelp
Our stay began with being greeted by CeCe the Inn Cat! We got the standard room, and it was more than standard. Very clean. Nice, cozy sheets, good pillows, comfy mattress. Nice tub and shower. (I've seen other reviews of this place complaining of torn, threadbare towels? No, they were all clean, fluffy, and soft.) And so, so quiet! The inn was full, but once we were in our room, we didn't hear a peep out of anyone! Continental breakfast was great. Just enough. We had two meals in the Boiler Room which was awesome! Such a cool atmosphere, food was delicious, and the service, superb. I had a massage in the spa. Massage was good. Now, I have to say...I'm a spa girl. This wasn't much of a spa. It was huge, but somehow there wasn't anywhere to really relax. The rooms that were FOR relaxing were really nothing special. The spa shares the pool and hot tub with the hotel. I don't know about other people, but relaxing doesn't typically include screaming kids. That was the only downside. I mean, I definitely recommend a spa treatment, but don't go here for a spa retreat. (Side note: the gal running the spa desk was pretty rude, condescending.) but, enough if the negatives, because there are no other negatives!!! There is shopping right there in the main lobby, and CeCe is usually hanging around there somewhere. Lots of cozy nooks to get away... As a side note: also recommend Ice Castles and tubing at Loon Mountain!!! We loved this place. Priced appropriately. Welcoming. Fun. Can't wait to go back!! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Be Weary!! Costly Hydro Facials. I used to pay for services not worth it. I stopped after poor results. I do not recommend this go to Meredith spas, ANYWHERE but don't spend your money for services you do not receive.

Christine R.

Yelp
SAVE YOUR MONEY!! THIS PLACE IS A DUMP. It's old, moldy smelling and dirty. Would never recommend this place to anyone. I'd love to know who the owners are paying off to get away with all the ADA requirements. There isn't a handrail in the whole place. I tried hard to find one thing I could give it a star for but I can't.

Dana G.

Yelp
Nice place, we were lucky enough to get the last room and when I said I prefer first floor, they were able to get us a first floor. The place was clean and the front desk people were very nice

Lauran B.

Yelp
This review is for the Common Man Spa. I booked a Common Man Classic Pedicure. I was checked in by Hillary at the front desk. She is friendly and very nice. In just a few minutes, Jen came to get me for my fantastic pedicure! It was absolutely lovely. The pedicure/manicure space is clean and bright, with a nice view of the outside (this being summer, filled with greenery). Jen took tremendous care of my feet, calves, and toes. I have never had a nicer pedicure experience. Hillary checked me out and was, again, friendly and warm. I will definitely be going back soon - it's so nice to be pampered, even for an hour!

Yelp
This review is based mostly on the Camp Suite we stayed in....to begin overpriced with a two night minimum. The bed is terribly uncomfortable, as in hard, and very springy noisy with the worst motion transfer ever encountered. The entire bed frame shakes with even the slightest movement. Not very romantic if this is what you have planned. Not sure what the purpose of the day bed next to it serves other than perhaps kicking your partner out so at least one of you can get some sleep. Linens were scratchy. The television is small so if you want to maybe relax in the afternoon after your daytime activities before dinner, watch PGA or a movie, you won't be able to see it from the above, worst bed ever, mentioned. If you'd like to take a bath in the small, so your partner won't fit in with you, jacuzzi tub there is some visible, although I don't know how as the lighting in the bathroom is so poor, black mold in the jets. Yuck. I should also mention toiletries sub par, bring your own. Overall, the room is rustic as described including the dust under the furniture The Old Town canoe propped above the bed is really the only mentionable highlight of this room imo! We didn't get to enjoy the breakfast included as the small area was crowded with way too many people inside which was totally unacceptable for COVID season. Another guest and I both agreed it was a COVID fest in there. There should be a capacity limit enforced not only to protect guests but the employees whipping up the grill items! We spent the weekend here for a wedding. If you'd like to get away from the Common Man takeover of the area be sure to get a grinder at Biederman' s and rent a tube from Plymouth Ski. The highlight of the area was Six Burner Bistro for an epic dinner which I can't say enough about how delicious everything we ordered was and the service and staff were super friendly! It was so outstanding they deserve many more reviews than I saw yelped.

Yelp
The staff was friendly and the restaurant was lovely! However, our room was dated and we had stained furniture. Soap dispensers were broken, and the building was really warm (A/C wasn't working?). We also couldn't get a hold of the spa, even after calling multiple days in a row and weeks before. The stay was fine, but not worth the money.

Joan Bonde B.

Yelp
This Inn is NOT disability friendly from the parking lot to the main brick entrance, to the slippery rugs (impossible for walkers) on the main floor, to the rooms on the second floor which have steps both up and down- no ramps. The hotel is old. Not just in years - which is part of the charm, - but the decor hasnt been updated since the 1980's. The carpets are filthy, the draperies are beyond shabby.

David M.

Yelp
What a great place. I travel regularly and normally stay at business chains like Hilton and Marriott. It was a great treat to find the Common Man. The location is easy to access and everything about the Inn was comfortable and warm. Staff was kind and helpful. The rooms are large. Mine had a fireplace and separate sitting/reading room. The inn was quiet and a great stop. I will stay here again if I am in the area

Yelp
This a marvelous New England inn in a refurbished 60,000-square-foot wood mill from earlier times. Large framed black and white photos throughout the inn tell the story of the wood mill and the workers that once toiled in the building. Ninety percent of the original building remains and it's 100 percent New England charm. Today, it features 37 warmly lit, rustic rooms with current amenities. Each is unique in decor and size. Ours was quite, quite large with two beds, a sofa, chairs, and handmade soaps and lotions in the bathroom. A partitioned room near the front windows in our room reminded me of a lake cottage front porch. The upholstery is small-print chintz. The inn's staff is hospitable, unobtrusive, but helpful when asked. There is a charming lobby gift shop in which the items sold fit in with the inn's overall motif. Looking for coffee in the morning? A tinyish breakfast counter in a small charming room off the lobby has a colorful guy serving up local lore along with eggs and steaming brew. The inn's restaurant features fantastic food and drinks. This a credible, awe-inspiring choice for a wedding party as the owners have wedding venues nearby (which they take the wedding party to in a trolley) including a greenhouse and a luxurious "rennoed" barn. We were there for my stepdaughter's fall wedding.

Yelp
Thank you for a great afternoon! PSU graduation day. They were obviously swamped. We had reservations for 7 at 1 pm. Took us early. Ben was friendly and efficient. All staff were attentive, apologetic about slowness which wasn't even that slow. Food was predictably good. Even made a point to congratulate our graduate! Definitely was a win.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a wedding. We were promised a queen bed but given a double. I could feel the springs in the mattress, so needless to say it was not a good nights sleep. The light above our bathroom mirror was broken which made doing makeup difficult. I could touch the ceiling when I raised my arm to push up the popcorn tiles. The room was small, and we had a really small window. The interior design was a disaster. The same piece of wall art (suspected to be repurposed yarn rug, displaying raccoons and other forest friends hiding in what appears to be an evergreen tree) is above *both* beds. We went to a friends room and lo and behold our rug wall art was on the floor as intended. For $150 a night, this is a terrible deal. Take your money elsewhere.

Yelp
I was traveling with my daughter and a friend for a weekend tournament in Plymouth NH. We didn't know about this place beforehand but when we saw it I went in to get some information and possible eat at the restaurant. When we walked in no one offered to help us and if you know how it's set up it's not clear where everything is. I went to the front desk to ask about the restaurant. The woman was at best civil. She said it's not open except the small breakfast counter. I looked at the time not realizing it was only 10:30 am, I chuckled, said thank you and turned away. The woman literally rolled her eyes at me and looked me up and down like we didn't belong there. My daughter was watching her. Lady I have money to spend. Probably way more than you. Sorry I don't wear a sign! I was looking to book a spa getaway for two groups and now we will go elsewhere! So disrespectful.

Yelp
I came to eat with my husband earlier this week at Fosters. Our server, I believe her name was Alexis or Lexi, was absolutely horrendous. She was extremely short with us and made us feel stupid when we would ask questions about the menu. Although our food came out great, the experience was not worth the time or money. Every other time I have dined at Fosters was great. I'm very disappointed and I will be sure to never have her as my server again.

Yelp
This is not your average Hotel/Spa, it boasts the beautiful old charm of an old time mill with all of the new features of today. The spa offer's so many different options you could spend an entire vacation in the spa alone. The hotel rooms are beautiful and spacious, there are even pet friendly rooms located on the first floor of the hotel. There is a pool and two hot tubs and even a sauna! As well as a restaurant and bar located on the grounds of the hotel. Do you have an electric car? This hotel offers a hook up to charge your car! How much more amazing could this hotel be. It is also within walking distance to downtown Plymouth and is less then 2 minutes from the highway. It is also 15 minutes to Newfound Lake, the most beautiful lake in New Hampshire. It is the perfect place to stay when visiting Plymouth New Hampshire.

Yelp
Spent a half day at the spa yesterday getting massage/facial/manicure. Fantastic!!!!!! Highly recommended. Keri was my facial/manicurist and she was amazing. Great to chat with and did an awesome job. Shirley, my massage therapist was the best! Got out every tight knot in my neck and upper back. Engaging conversationalist, and all around fun to talk to. A great job from start to finish. If you're on the fence about spending the money........ don't be. Just do it. You'll be glad you did. A++++ Afterward we went to the Boiler Room for some food and drink. Casey, our bartender, was excellent. Try the Uncommon Manhattan and the coffee martini (The Buzz) The food was perfect. The ice cream sandwich dessert was absolutely to die for. That salted caramel sauce needs to be jarred and sold. I definitely would have taken some home.

Yelp
The atmosphere was great, warm and cozy. We ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower Dip for an appetizer, the saltiest dish I have ever had (did not eat 1/4 of it). Had the Fish and Chips, again very salty. My son had the Chicken Fried Steak, he loved it! We were both excited to hear that you receive "chunks" of white chocolate when you receive your bill; we received shavings. There was not even a piece big enough that you could pick up to place into your mouth; very disappointing.

Yelp
Just returned from a stay at one of the Common Man Inn tiny cabins. The cabin was cozy, super comfy bed and pillows and the view was of the pretty snow covered mountains. Very clean. It was small but perfect for two. The only downside here were the bathrobes really needed to be retired. The main Inn was full of rustic charm with a nice fire to sit by. We didn't use the pool/spa. Free continental breakfast with Tom the cook was excellent! Customer service was top notch, too. We enjoyed our stay and would return. Ate dinner at the Common Man Restaurant in Lincoln--excellent and highly recommend it! While in the area we went to the Ice Castles/Sleigh Ride, Life is Good shop in Lincoln, scenic ride on the Kancamagus Highway and then Zebs/Life is Good/Outlets in N. Conway. We've been visiting NH for over 30 years and always return to our favorites spots.

Yelp
Takeout order on a Tuesday night was quoted 20min. Got there about 10min after we placed the order and paid the hostess. Ended up taking OVER AN HOUR for one burger and one steak tip entree. Repeatedly checked in with hostess whose only answer to me was only "few more minutes" for the next 45 minutes straight. Food was barely warm when we got it which was the icing on the cake, I waited that long while my food was in there ready and getting cold. Hostess almost charged me twice too, she forgot I had paid when I arrived it was that long ago. Don't order takeout here

Yelp
Andy decided we needed to go away for an impromptu weekend getaway at 4PM on Friday night, necessitating finding a hotel that was pet friendly for Callie. He did some googling and found the Common Man Inn & Spa. Thank god he did. The Inn and Restaurant are in a 100+ year old converted factory. The room was huge and comfortable and came with a dog cookie and dog bed for Callie, along with linens to protect the bed and couch from her fur. The gas fireplace was a nice touch and I liked that the dog friendly rooms were off on their own wing. The one issue with that was the dog rooms were closest to the entry and faced the parking lot, so there were lots of noises for the doggies to get excited about. Most of the staff was really nice and friendly, with the front desk man when we checked in being the one exception. He seemed like he expected our dog to be bad. The whole inn is pretty and there is a roof deck. The cafe where breakfast is served was super cute. The pool and hot tub area was slightly small but uncrowded. The bathroom in the room was pretty nice. Kudos for the eco-friendliness (solar hot water tank, biodegradable stuff, etc).

Yelp
This is an outstanding place to stay. Clean, friendly staff and beautiful rooms. I had a great stay.

Yelp
Have to give PERSONAL information to eat there. Good food but they need to ask for information before you enter to eat. Not after you ordered your food.

Yelp
This place is absolutely wonderful. Their attention to detail is what really takes the cake. They offer handmade soap (not that generic stuff you'd find at Ramada), delicious smelling lotions, there's unique little decorations, and everything just feels like home. I stayed in one of the loft suites, and it was so spacious, cozy, and convenient. There a bathroom on each floor, a stocked fridge and also an empty one to keep ice, or any drinks you bring yourself. I also like how they add a tip to your bill for the housekeepers. It's good to know they take care of their staff as well as their guests!

Yelp
I have always had great experiences with the Spa. Such a relaxing atmosphere. I have tried avariety of services over the years and have always been happy with the results. I would definitely recommend the common man spa when you want to treat yourself.

Yelp
Wendy rocks my world! She was attentive, precise, and I left knowing I would be back for another color and cut. Thank you!

Yelp
Loved it. My only experience with The Common Man chain had been in Lincoln, at one of their restaurants. I have always loved going there; it is always cozy, the food is delicious, and their sense of humor permeates the entire experience. Happily, the same was true for the Inn & Spa. The staff at the front desk was fantastic, pointing us to local resources if they did not have the information we were asking about. The rooms were very cute, with rustic touches, but were a bit outdated (i.e., tube TV's, wired internet access in the rooms). Really though, you are on vacation, and those were the least important bits. We stayed in a pet friendly room, and our dog was quite happy as well. The spa...I will have dreams about that spa until my next visit. The massage was fantastic, and there are so many add-ons, you could go back for something every day and never get the same thing twice. The food and drinks at Foster's Lounger were great! There are so many options for hot and cold, alcoholic and non drinks that you would be hard pressed to find something you didn't like. The menu was heavy on comfort food, and was perfect for the atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
We picked this place on a whim and were absolutely ecstatic with our choice when we arrived. Everything was amazing and better than we had expected. The food at Fosters boiler room at the Inn and it was AMAZING and perfectly prepared. Our room was rustic and beautiful, the spa was well priced with so many options, and All of the housekeepers and staff were so friendly and informative. I couldn't say enough good things. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
I took my eight year old daughter for a spa day recently. This way a big treat for her because she was recovering from pneumonia. We scheduled a mini manicure and pedicure for her, and a pedicure for me. I asked about lunch at the spa and was emailed a menu. Upon arriving I was greeted by a desk attendant who informed me that I was supposed to have ordered the lunch 48 hours in advance. I did not realize this when I booked the appointment. I asked what kind of fruit was on the fruit and cheese plate to be told "whatever they have today." I asked what they had today and she replied "I don't know." We proceeded to have our pedicures. Heather did mine. She was very professional and very friendly. She offered to take a photo of my daughter and I. The woman who did my daughters pedicure was even more unfriendly that the desk clerk. She rushed my daughter through the pedicure. She did her manicure and told me to reset the dryer when it ran out. Then she disappeared. My daughter has had manicures before, she has never been treated this way. I had to ask the desk clerk where we would eat etc. The food was fine, but when I asked to have to wrapped up the clerk handed me boxes. I had to walk back in the room and box up my own food. We spent an hour swimming and going into the sauna, then left. I left a nice tip for Heather who was great, but I wish I had left less for the woman who did my daughter's mani/pedi, and the desk attendant. Neither one of them made our experience joyful at all. My daughter's pedicure was chipping off when we got home! $50 down the drain. The whole experince was a waste of $135.00 I would not recommend this spa, unless you ask for Heather by name. Otherwise it is a huge waste of money!

Yelp
Our daughter recently got married at The Common Man Inn & Spa. We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful experience. Our wedding coordinator was very helpful throughout the entire process. The food was great. I would recommend the Common Mann Inn & Spa for weddings. It will be one to remember!

Yelp
When can I go back!? This is the perfect place for a girls weekend or even a romantic getaway. I stayed here on night with four girlfriends. We stayed in one of the loft rooms, which was amazing. There were plenty of beds and two bathrooms. We started our day in the spa, I had a facial and a massage. This was my first facial and it was one of the most wonderful experiences, I can't wait for my next one. The deep tissue massage was nice as well. After the spa, we had some wine in our room and then headed downstairs to Foster's Boiler Room. I had the mussels and a salad, which were both fantastic. There were cheese and crackers to snack on as well and the bread was great! After dinner, we went back to the room to use the DVD player and watch some movies. Such a relaxing night! We had breakfast in cafe the next morning. The basics are free, but a veggie omelette will cost you $4.00. We decided that we would be coming here for quarterly girls weekends. It's so nice to have the spa, dining, and lodging under one roof. This is the ultimate relaxation!

Yelp
Love the overall rustic and cozy feel of the Common Man Inn. Sitting by the fire place by the entrance on a freezing cold night was perfect. Loved being able to go to the spa, pool, hot tub/water fall, restaurant and our room- all without having to go outside in the cold. We went for half hour massages, one of us had a great massage, and the other had a very poor massage. For the price of the massage, it was a big disappointment. My only other negative was that the room smelled musty...but the overall aesthetics of the Inn made up for it. I would definitely go back, but I would have to know who the masseuse is.

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE & Can't wait to come back!! The service is so friendly and they make you feel right at home. The decor is very Adirondack, homey, and tastefully done. The organic lotions, soap, and gels really make you feel like you just aren't staying at any ole' hotel. The lobby is inviting and incredibly quaint. The animal friendly idea is amazing! I can't wait to bring our dog, Bella and my fiancee back here when we are in town. The beds aren't the best, but I can look past that with the lodge decor and fantastic bath products. The only recommendation I would like to add is - update the TVs in the rooms. A small flat screen would be perfect. I love the idea that the whole inn is eco-friendly and heats the water with solar panels. Thank you for a wonderful stay and I can't wait to come back!!!

Yelp
Up for the weekend, needed an "open late" place for dinner, drinks, etc. Common Man Inn and Spa has a Foster's Lounge, which is open until 11 pm (late for central NH). Food and service was TOP NOTCH! Had the Lobster Mac and Cheese and WOW was it good. Also had a few Sam Adam's Summer Ales and we started with some Buffalo tenders. Nice! Able to watch the Red Sox as well. Interesting area downstairs with couches and tables. I'll be back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
We were able to get a room on Friday night at the last minute. This hotel has rooms that are specifically pet friendly with dog beds in the room. A really nice inn, beautiful room, great restaurant. The one stain on a really good stay was the charge for a late checkout. We needed to stay until 3 and were charged an additional $75, which brought the cost of our stay for one night to over $300. It really ruined the whole experience.

Yelp
I loved this place. Not only was the food tasty and wholesome, the setting was warm and relaxed. Perhaps most fascinating of all was the selection of wall decorations and eating under a canoe hung from the ceiling. Seldom can I honestly say a restaurant was *inspirational*. Here I can. The menu impressed me as they display proudly the names of the restaurant leader, chef, and cover artist. Moreover they appear to have made a sincere and noticeably successful effort to sympathize with their customers as human beings, which is how I read the items on the back of the menu. This suggests to me sincere efforts to act ethically and respect for the trust of their customers. I loved the tone of the bathroom and didn't personally hear one, but a friend was annoyed with an advertisement she heard in the bathroom. All and all an ideal experience. I will keep this restaurant in mind whenever I'm in the area!

Yelp
Only stayed for one night 7/2-7/3, but the place is wonderful. There was a wedding going on during our stay but honestly it wasn't loud and we didn't hear anything from inside, especially after it ended. We stayed in a room with a loft option. There was a queen bed with a couch, tv, medium sized fridge and the bathroom & shower downstairs, with 2 full sized beds & a half bathroom upstairs, with a tv in room. Great price for all of the space. The room was VERY clean, nothing looked dingy and everything smelled clean. The decor is very cute - ski/bears/winter themed. They include a small bar of locally made natural goat's milk soap in the bathrooms. Downstairs there is a checkers game set up, local items to purchase (the bloody mary mix was spicy & delish w/ a free lime!), a bar/restaurant with a free block of cut cheese/great beer selection, and the breakfast area isn't too shabby either. Every day there's a different hot special, but there is cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit cups, fresh fruit, tea & coffee. The young woman & middle aged man working in the breakfast bar were super friendly & funny to converse with, and the woman at the check in counter was very informative and welcoming. Also, theres a great ice cream place up the small hill in the front, and there's train tracks with a bridge overlooking the water. Overall, this is a spectacular place to stay at!

Yelp
Don't bother! There are several better choices in the area that are customer friendly. This property is interested in profit only with concern for customer service. We had a reservation that we could not make due to car trouble. After notifying the front desk early in the day we were told we would be charged regardless of our circumstances. New England hospitality? Forget it!

Yelp
We went to the Common man spa to get ready for my cousin's wedding. We were there all day and the staff was amazing. In between services we had some down time because there were 6 + of us getting updos, makeup, manis, and pedis. The staff was amazing. Jenny did my nails and she is a miracle worker. My nails are always breaking and uneven and she made them look like a million bucks. I cant remember the girl who did my hair...I was to say Erica but I could be making that up. She was wonderful! She was funny. She kept joking with the rest of the bridal party and myself. The entire staff that had anything to do with my cousins wedding sure made us feel special. We had a great time and we left looking like all new people. They did an AMAZING job with the wedding make up and hair. I highly suggest booking your salon needs at the common man spa.

Yelp
Planned a girl's spa overnight with mother and sister based on reviews, room rate and past dining experiences at other Common Man locations. Also the luxury and tranquility video posted on the website was an influence. The first uh-oh popped up as we drove up to Inn. Granted, it is early April - not the most attractive season in New England, but signage and entrance literally "over the railroad tracks" was less than inviting. Parking lot is not well-groomed. All angles of structure appear to be the rear of the building, but we would see what awaited inside the spa. We booked 3 services each plus overnight at Inn. Changing rooms, comfy robes and lockers were available. Not much direction on what to do after that. We kind of wandered aimlessly till greeted by our individual masseuse. Boris was amazing. Seriously, the best massage ever! Spa pedi and manis followed. While pedis were relaxing, and the techs were extremely friendly and funny, the results of services are less than acceptable. I am going to try to post pics for reference. We are talking dead skin not removed, cuticles not pushed back and polish on toes and cuticles - not worth the cost of $80. Decor of entire inn and spa is rustic as expected but tired and maintenance required. Upholstery stained. Pool towels from front desk are literally rags - frayed, ripped, smelled of dirty feet and dingy. 'Cozy' sofa and chair in room were terribly uncomfortable and our plan to watch / rent a chic flic dashed as only basic cable is available on a low res tv screen. Continental breakfast offered lowest grade commercial pastries and scrambled eggs which have been sitting in warming tray till building block consistency. Note: the coffee was great. Every spa and inn employee was warm and friendly. The spa manager Frank issued a $75 credit when we spoke to him about mani pedi dissatisfaction but for an $840 overnight the Common Man did not measure up.
