I visited Company Gardens on Saturday for a relaxed walk and early lunch. While the gardens themselves are neat and pleasant, and the choir performance was lovely, the restaurant experience was extremely disappointing.
The food was grossly overpriced and poor quality. I was charged R65 for a can of Grapetizer and R100 for what was possibly the worst cheese toast I’ve ever had. The chips were soaked in oil, served without salt, and there was no salt or pepper available on the table.
Service was equally unacceptable. Our waiters only returned 40 minutes after the meal was served, and we then had to wait an additional 25 minutes just to receive the bill. At that point, you feel trapped rather than cared for.
To make matters worse, the presence of rats and concerns about pickpocketing completely ruin what should be a peaceful experience.
Overall, the gardens themselves are worth a visit, but the restaurant and surrounding issues leave you feeling cheated and frustrated. Sadly, not an experience I would recommend in its current state.
