The Constance (Berkshires, Massachusetts) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Berkshires of western Massachusetts are thriving; with ample opportunity for outdoor recreation as well as a surprisingly vibrant cultural scene, all within a manageable drive from Boston and New York, it’s not hard to see the appeal. And with hotels like the Constance on the scene, it’s an easier sell than ever. This Victorian-style tavern first opened its doors in 1825, and in its present incarnation it’s a perfectly balanced blend of historically inspired Victorian charm and contemporary boutique-hotel style." - Tablet Hotels

We visited Lenox for two nights on our annual leaf-peeping trip to New England. Logan greeted us warmly upon arrival, setting a welcoming tone. Our first night was at The Dewey, but it wasn’t the most restful due to the early morning chime of the church clock across the street, nearby traffic, and a lawn mower starting up at 7:00 a.m. I called Emily right away, and she kindly arranged for us to move to The Constance. I wish I had requested it from the start—it was spotless, quiet, and wonderfully comfortable. If I could make one small suggestion, it would be to add more outlets or charging options for technology, as older homes naturally have fewer. Otherwise, everything was lovely. We truly enjoyed the area and will definitely be back! 🍂

I stayed for 3 nights in the queen loft room and loved it! It was perfect for a short solo trip. The little loft itself was a cool hangout spot to read/draw, and the rest of the room was cozy. Being on the third floor and in the front corner of the building probably prevented me from hearing any other guests because I didn't hear ANYTHING at night it was great. The bathroom was quite small but with a good size shower. Breakfast is continental as advertised so don't expect a buffet! There was some fresh bagels, yogurt, muffins, fruit, coffee, etc. Simple and it's nice that they offer it. Theres a couple of great breakfast spots in town anyways so go to one of those. You have to remember that it's an old house. Like built in 1825 OLD. Certain spots on the floor will creak, stairs are a little steep, doors are heavy. This is not a luxury hotel – I think it's better. It's a quaint town with TONS of places to visit inside and out, and I felt like I was staying as a resident rather than a tourist. Think of this as more of a casual B&B. It has a great wraparound porch and sitting parlor if you need a place to hangout outside your room. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Had a great trip and would love to visit Lenox again.

We arrived and we (all of us including our dog) were warmly greeted by Amanda. She made us feel so comfortable and was a welcoming & kind bright spot during our stay. The inn is very lucky to have her! The location is great and walkable to everything Lenox has to offer. The room & linens are very clean and the bed comfortable. 8/28/25: Be sure to clarify any fees. I had inquired about pet fees when making the reservation as I couldn’t find anything about it on the website. I was informed that there was not a fee but then saw a charge on my card that was a bit of a surprise. I had reached out via email and did not receive any response. I was not trying to remove the discount, just advocate for clear communication. I also inquired about a AAA discount and was told that AAA were not offered. Today, one month after our stay, I received an email stating specifically that there is ‘AAA-Only Rates Up to 15% Off’.

Great location, the building is pretty. Good size rooms, walls are very thin you can hear your neighbours!!! Female member of staff on arrival about 2pm seemed grumpy and unhelpful. Later on (not sure of her name she finished at 7pm) was very helpful and willing to help. Continental breakfast was ok, bagels and pastry’s were stale.

When we got to the Whitlock in Lenox we were greeted by the lovely cheery Amanda. Our room was great, clean and we came in to find a plethora of snacks on top of the refrigerator with a card from my boyfriend. It turns out he had called Amanda and she took the time to report all of his options . And brought them up to our room . It was above and beyond . I love that the hotel is right in town. The breakfast at the Constance was adequate . My only complaint was walking from the parking lot onto and into the property is on very uneven ground. Other than that I would stay again in a heartbeat!

The room was beautiful, staff friendly and location great. My dog liked it too! The breakfast was TERRIBLE with rock hard bagels, stale pastries with no way to heat them up, individual sugared cereals (Apple Jacks, Frosted flakes). The jam/jellies had congealed. Given this is a Bed and Breakfast, I would have expected much better. Even fresh pastries would have helped. I would have been glad to stay again if the breakfast had been acceptable.

The best thing about this place is the location. In the center of Lenox and very close to Tanglewood. The staff (Logan) was cheerful and helpful. That's all the positives. We paid $1,200 to stay two nights (Friday & Saturday) in July. It's a lot, but that's Lenox in Summer. It is expensive. You'd expect to get a nice place for that kind of money. Nope. The Constance is a DUMP. Deferred maintenance everywhere, starting with the porch which has pealing paint on the floor boards and knotty pine stains all over the painted ceiling. Our room ("Deluxe King") was terrible. The floor was dirty when we arrived, with trash on the floor. All the windows are filthy. The door to the room has a gap at the top of it so you can actually see into the room. One of the window shades had been broken, apparently, and that window was rigged with a sheer curtain that let all the ambient light into the room at night and all the daylight into the room at dawn. The claw tub/shower was tiny and gross with a filthy liner and dirty mat in the tub. The shampoo was not changed out, we got whatever the previous guest left. The bed was comfortable, albeit a very soft mattress. If you want a firm mattress, look elsewhere. The bed linens were clean and very good quality. They skimp on bath linens, you'll have to ask for additional towels or for fresh bath linens during your stay. The continental breakfast was mediocre at best. Parking is limited. Listen, for $99/night this place works. For $600/night you will be very, very disappointed. It needs about $1M in upgrades and renovations to make it nice. Until then, skip this place. We did see a black bear trying to get into the overflowing dumpster. That was cool.

The property is tired and gloomy. We had 2 rooms. The one on the ground floor had a tatty chair outside and the windows badly needed cleaning and the exterior needed to be tidied up. It is a historic building but that doesn’t mean it can’t be comfortable and sparking clean. The breakfast is also gloomy and in general staff aren’t friendly. I was always surprised whoever was in the reception area never (and I mean never) looked up from their computer to say good morning or exchange any pleasantries. Spend your money elsewhere.
