15 Best Bars in Houston

"This small, divey music venue in Midtown is an offshoot of the famous Continental Club in Austin. It has the same type of decor—a red curtain behind the stage and walls covered with concert T-shirts, vintage cigarette ads, and music paraphernalia—and a spacious patio. The crowd consists mostly of music devotees; others are here for the casual bar scene. Order a $3 Lone Star tallboy can, a Houston craft beer, or no-nonsense mixed drinks—don't even think about fancy cocktails." - Marcy de Luna

My sister and I went to see The Amazing, Brehms. Stephanie Young Brehm and her husband David are the essence of a soulful, jazz ambiance. There "Addams kinda love" is authentic and beautiful.

We just tried to see culture wars for the tickets we BOUGHT. There was NOTHING saying we had to be 21+ to get in. We were good but my friend wasn’t “of age” so we just left to go get pizza around the corner. The old dude working there was extremely rude and dismissive. Don’t buy tickets for this place if you aren’t 21. Go to the bar in league city instead they literally let kids in to see the shows.

This was my first time attending an event here. The ID checker at the door was not pleasant at all. We walk in and went to the bar. The staff behind the bar would just pass us up and attend to others all around us like we couldn't be seen. I finally waved someone down and when I said, sorry, we have been here ahead of everyone else,(by this time, others have left and new people were coming to the bar and they were getting served as we still stood by and waited. They were rude as well so we decided not to waste our money there. We were there to support the band. Instead the money we were going to spend at the bar, we have the band a nice tip. It was so hot inside the venue. The decor was nice.

Great place with a mellow vibe. For all the people saying you get over charged at the door, there is a pre-purchase price and then door price (like 98% of all venues) so if you want to save a couple bucks, plan ahead and pre-purchase your tickets online. If you buy at the door it will be a few bucks more. Simple as that!

I saw Satsang and Tim Snider! Great atmosphere and sound!

Good band. When we shows up the cover was way higher than advertised. Avoid if you actually want to have a good time. 10 years ago it was fun. The new owner is a really old grumpy guy who has lost control on costs who will try too hard to milk everyone that comes in the door. Could be great again.

Good venue, old but great vibe. I will say it is not a beer bar, this place leans towards liquors. There are 2 old friendly outside cats on the patio. Reasonable pricing for shows.

Check this place out online before heading over. It looked pretty good! The website listed a $10 cover per person, but when we arrived it was actually $20 per person—so heads up. The vibe was nice and the place looked cool, but the sudden price change was a letdown. Looks like a catch to get people there.
