"Wine-happy couples mix with families and foodies at this reconstructed former convent in the countryside (just don't expect to see any nuns). It’s in Pokolbin, the epicenter of vineyards and produce trails in the Hunter Valley area, around two hours’ drive from Sydney—making it an ideal base for a weekend of wine tastings. The 19 guest rooms are traditional, but not stuffy: think high headboards, chandeliers, generous curtains, scatter cushions, and splashes of mirror. Splurge on a Garden Suite for a private lounge area and a sun room with views of manicured gardens below." - Sophie Davies

We stayed here to celebrate my husband's birthday and didn't leave disappointed. I love and chose the Convent for its history and boutique feel. Absolutely stunning, filled with French opulence. We had dinner at Circa 1876 which is also stunning, the food is amazing. Very flavoursome and just a short stroll back to the Convent. We loved our stay, it's a home from home feel, friendly staff. Thank you The Convent.

I want to thank the staff at The Convent for firstly, accommodating us and our 3 greyhounds and secondly, for ensuring all of us were looked after. The staff even cooked breakfast for our babies - scrambled eggs and bacon, I don't think the doggos wanted to leave! They also gave us some delicious treats for the hounds. We enjoyed our stay and we are very grateful to the staff for taking good care of us. It was also our 12 year old greyhound's birthday and this made it extra special.

"Special" High Tea for a friend's birthday. Very disappointing! Place and room were lovely, but only one other table present. The bread on the sandwiches was not fresh and no leg ham or salmon on any sandwich. Nothing hot or warm. It is winter! The scones, jam and cream were delicious but we had to ask for more jam and cream. The cakes were abundant, but not all were fresh, did have not have a home made or special quality and some were very different to the menu description. Very disappointing! The tea was lovely, but we had to ask for more hot water and milk. Overall we were very disappointed when we were celebrating very special occasion ... NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!

Can’t compliment the staff enough, special thanks to Sam, Hannah, Rachel and Kirsten. Perfect location. Interesting history. Magical stay. Thank you! Remodelling planned so watch this space.

Surprised my elderly mother a weekend away in the Hunter Valley! We stayed back in October 2024 for her birthday. As part of our stay we also had complimentary tastings to nearby wineries and breakfast included the next morning. Great history here, along with rooms that give visitors a chance to walk through and learn more about this beautiful place. I appreciated the staff for their service and kindness. My 74 yr old mother was delighted and blown away to stay here, you could tell by all the photos (see below). I say sassy, because she couldnt contain her excitement and wanting a picture in almost every location! That in its self tells me she was extremely pleased with her visit without saying anything at all. We enjoyed every moment here. Would love to return very soon. Thanks for having us.

Gorgeous ambience & living the dream if you are a FWAW fan. Opulence when you enter the Convent & welcomed in by the most delightful friendly staff. Beautiful grounds in a great position surrounded by wineries galore. Seeing the kangaroos feeding on the grass in the morning was an added bonus.

Decor seemed sadly dated especially in the bathroom in our room which needs a major update. Service was fine. Breakfast menu is extremely limited. Feels much more like a guesthouse than a resort. I feel that it is overpriced and possibly resting on it's reputation. Don't envisage staying again.

We have always loved staying at The Convent and consider it one of our favorite getaways. However, during our recent visit, we noticed a lack of attention to detail in several areas that significantly impacted our experience. A few key issues we encountered: Cleanliness: Cobwebs and bugs were present on all windows and the ceiling. Additionally, plastic and what appeared to be a piece of cheese were left under the lounge from a previous guest. Mosquitoes & Noise: We were kept awake both nights due to mosquitoes and were woken up at 5 AM by staff cars arriving in the car park. Suite 22 Privacy Issues: Unlike previous stays in the studio rooms, Suite 22 had little to no privacy, with both guests and staff walking past and a clear view into our windows from both sides. The outdoor restaurant area also faced our room. To maintain privacy, we had to keep the shutters fully closed, making the room dark. Additionally, the lack of fly screens meant we couldn't open windows for ventilation. Amenities & Maintenance: The in-room phone was non-functional when we attempted to order a coffee, and we were told it would not be fixed. There was no acknowledgment that this was an issue or that guests should be able to call when needed. The kettle and coffee machine still had water left in them from a previous guest. The bathroom was poorly designed, with no space to store toiletries, forcing us to keep them on the floor. There was also no toilet seat, and while the manager mentioned bringing a small cupboard for storage, it never arrived. We appreciate the manager's acknowledgment of some of these issues and the thoughtful gesture of a bottle of champagne. However, for a 5-star luxury hotel, this stay fell far below the standard we have come to expect, especially considering the premium price we paid. We wanted to share this feedback in the hope that these concerns can be addressed to maintain the high-quality experience The Convent is known for. Best regards, Rebbecca
