3 Best Day Trips from Sydney | Condé Nast Traveler

"Wine-happy couples mix with families and foodies at this reconstructed former convent in the countryside (just don't expect to see any nuns). It’s in Pokolbin, the epicenter of vineyards and produce trails in the Hunter Valley area, around two hours’ drive from Sydney—making it an ideal base for a weekend of wine tastings. The 19 guest rooms are traditional, but not stuffy: think high headboards, chandeliers, generous curtains, scatter cushions, and splashes of mirror. Splurge on a Garden Suite for a private lounge area and a sun room with views of manicured gardens below." - Sophie Davies

The perfect hotel for a secluded vacation or special occasion. I booked a room for my partner and I here for our anniversary, and it was almost a storybook experience. We stayed in Room 16, up in the top left of the building with access to two big shared balconies where we met lovely guests also making use of the complimentary wine to enjoy the sunset. The rooms are spacious and the bed was so comfortable I accidentally napped before dinner! Staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Highly, highly recommend.

We dropped into the Convent for breakfast located in the Wistera courtyard and had a delicious meal. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful a credit to this establishment. 👏|The setting on the veranda was charming and quaint . A perfect combination for a relaxing morning. We will be back !

I stayed at The Convent for a weekend and had an incredible time. The hotel is beautiful, peaceful, spotless, and full of charm. The breakfast was generous and delicious. What really made the stay special was the staff – everyone was very kind and welcoming, especially Sam, who went above and beyond to make sure we felt comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back!

Yes, it’s nice. Yes, it’s historic. First impressions are lovely. The room we were given though, was not lovely. While it is clean, it really needs to be brought into the 21st century. The shower needs a grappling hook to get into, there is nowhere to hang a towel, and nowhere to charge a phone due to a lack of power points. The lack of attention to detail adds up to being annoyed at the price we paid. That being said, it really is a lovely historic place. If modern expectations are not a big deal, then this is the place for you. However if you would like usual contemporary conveniences like power points, then you’ll be disappointed. Like I was.

Beautiful hotel with history! Loved everything about it, very comfortable, lovely staff. The only annoying thing was when we ordered breakfast the next day. Somehow they lost our order so from the time we sat at the table to the time we actually received our breakfast was about an hour!

"Special" High Tea for a friend's birthday. Very disappointing! Place and room were lovely, but only one other table present. The bread on the sandwiches was not fresh and no leg ham or salmon on any sandwich. Nothing hot or warm. It is winter! The scones, jam and cream were delicious but we had to ask for more jam and cream. The cakes were abundant, but not all were fresh, did have not have a home made or special quality and some were very different to the menu description. Very disappointing! The tea was lovely, but we had to ask for more hot water and milk. Overall we were very disappointed when we were celebrating very special occasion ... NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!

We paid $425 a night including breakfast. Won't told there is no lift so had to carry our bags up the stairs. The girl at reception did say she can help. Room tiny with a very poor bar fridge. Bugs in bathroom and shower inside the bathtub with a steep stepin and out. At night path outside to go to the restaurant not lit enough. Will I stay there again; NO.

Beautiful place to stay. Staff great, breakfast lovely. The only one thing they dont have is a car port , massive storm when we stayed & the car got damaged with hail.
