Where to Stay in Baton Rouge, Louisiana | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Cook Hotel’s primary distinction is its location directly on LSU’s campus — a few minutes’ walk from Tiger Stadium — making it a dependable base for visiting families, alumni, and conference guests who value proximity; amenities include a bar, 24-hour gym, outdoor pool, and a reliable breakfast buffet, and while the design leans classic rather than trendy, attentive staff and a strong sense of place make it practical for game weekends without navigating city traffic." - Jessica Chapel

Great location on the LSU campus. Rooms were nicely appointed and the small suite we had was comfortable enough for 4 people to occupy. Standard room we also reserved was good for two people. Gift shop in the hotel lobby was great. Breakfast service, which is included, is limited and a bit disappointing. Staff was helpful and friendly, but not quite as hospitable as others we encountered during this stay. Still, a nice place to stay in a great location. Not too far or difficult to reach downtown Baton Rouge.

Beautiful hotel. We encountered the friendliest staff but we definitely paid for convenience of being right on campus for a new student event. Housekeeping didn’t do a good job with the bathroom. We saw a previous guest’s hair everywhere! For these rates that should not be an issue. We were comped breakfast tickets for breakfast that didn’t appear to be “exclusive”. Weeks later, no call or correspondence from the manager that the wonderful staff said they’d report the matter to. I’m not sure if we’ll return, even now with the small discount I have through the university. I am not too keen to hand over money for that experience again.

The staff was so friendly and helpful. I let the front desk know that there was mold in the jets of the jacuzzi tub and she sent someone right away. Unfortunately, the person who cleaned it only cleaned 3 of the 6 jets in the tub. When I mentioned it the next day, same thing she still did not clean those 3. At that point, I gave up and just took showers. I loved their stand-alone shower but would've enjoyed a bath at least once in my week stay. The TVs are very outdated. They're only 720p. They did not have the options to watch Netflix, Hulu or any other streaming service. They did provide lots of channels on cable though. The lobby was gorgeous. The pool was clean and relaxing. It only went 5' deep which is understandable for liability. Overall, would stay here again.

The Cook Hotel did us dirty and I would never stay here again. This used to be my “go to.” After spending two consecutive, 14-hour work days moving our Sophomore into LSU, we gave our toddler some popcorn night #1 and it was on a a table and some crumbs on the floor. Also, the coffee maker malfunctioned and overflowed all over the counter, so when we arrived back at the hotel, at midnight. The bed was made but dirty towels on the floor, dirty bathroom sink, all of the coffee mugs and the tray from the coffee maker in the sink, kitchen counter dirty and of course, nobody vacuumed and nobody wiped down a table in the living area. The ultimate was, they left the garbage complete with dirty diapers, full in the bedroom. I consider this not just a service breach, but an act of hostility. We travel monthly and I’ve had someone forget service all together but not this. We were treated worse than animals. Why pay for a full-service hotel and get this? I don’t find anything special about sitting in the Shaquiel O’neal Lodge if I can’t even get the garbage can emptied.

Google
Regular (deluxe) rooms extremely small, at least the one I got. Much smaller than standard US hotel size. Also, the room I got was a nearly windowless cave. Maybe that was my fault for asking for one with a view... The hotel seemed pretty empty, so they wouldn't have had a reason to give me sloppy leftovers. So I assume that's just what their rooms are like. It was late when I got in, so I didn't feel like trudging to the front desk to see if they could give me something else. On the plus side, facilities clean and in good shape.

Google
Room is great. Alot of room in the King Suite. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Will update after checkout. 2nd Review. Stayed in a double bed suite. Just as nice as the last room. Sunday's crew is not as great as the weekly crew..just felt like checking in was bothering the desk clerk.

Rude customer service! Will not book here again! I had a canceled flight and canceled my booking. The woman I spoke to was kind and helpful. Her name was Jamira (I apologize for the spelling). I wish she had been on the phone today, when I called. Unfortunately, I had an issue with billing and contacted the hotel again to receive documentation to confirm that the booking was indeed canceled. The next guest services representative I spoke to was rude and proceeded to hand the phone to another guest services representative who proceeded to double-team me, judge me (by her commentary) for booking through the third party I chose to book through, and not listen to what I was saying. Instead of listening and trying to help me receive the documentation, she hung up on me. Additionally, they refused to give me their names. Terrible service!

Google
Excellent stay, hotel and staff are top tier. It offers nice amenities, including a bar and dining area. We will be returning, perfect for LSU games.

Yelp
In town for a football game so why not stay in the middle of it all. Fortunately, I'm no longer young and poor so I can afford the home game prices at this campus hotel. The lobby is attractive and the staff were very nice. The breakfast was great. That bacon was some of the best I've ever had and the omelette bar was on point and even offered crawfish! So appropriate. The room is just nice. Nothing special or extraordinary. Definitely not a show stopper.

Yelp
The room was clean but it was small. The TV had a lot of channels. And the breakfast buffet was good. It was on LSU's campus and that was a huge plus for us!

Yelp
Everyone here was just so friendly, and accommodating. They have a business center that has Apple computers. The breakfast is all right, it was a little salty the first day but was okay the next. The rooms are gorgeous painted with gold accent walls. They have amazing art on the walls in the hallways, everything is so very clean. I loved everything about my stay.

Yelp
Honestly, this has been one of my favorite hotels this trip. It was clean, safe, comfy, it's just everything I needed. Nestled on the Louisiana State University Campus it is Hotel open to the public. It is owned by the alumni foundation and provides money for scholarships and other things there University needs. My bed was comfortable. My WiFi was strong. I'm about to go try the free breakfast. I understand it's just to grab and go kind, but honestly, it's FREE. I felt so safe. Everyone was so nice. They have a little store (sort-of , next to the front desk) where you can buy ice cream, chips and BEER. Apparently, starting Thursday and through the weekend there is in a bar. On campus! It makes my heart giggle! Of course, because it's on campus, everything is tigers. (But as an alumni of the University of Arkansas, I know nothing of uh-em razorbacks uh-em lol). It's a beautiful campus. Driving in I even saw Canadian Geese on campus which makes my heart sing to see them. I love geese. I've stayed in a lot of hotels these last two weeks, but this is the first one I'd return to (in Baton Rouge). Update: breakfast was okay. At 7:40 it was cold but it was still free. And I could have cereal or make my own waffles.

Yelp
It's comfortable and clean-ish. On campus, convenient for all university-related events. Breakfast situation is complicated... yellow tickets provide access to complimentary cereal, breads, some pastries and a fruit basket. For additional food items (including a hot breakfast buffet), one needs to pay extra...

Yelp
We have stayed at this hotel many times. The breakfast buffet is always good, and the hotel is clean and pleasant.

Yelp
Although it's located on campus, you truly don't feel like it. This secret gem is wonderful for afternoon lunch or after dinner drinks. The bar area has multiple televisions so there should be something to watch on any of them if you are in need of some stimuli. Bar area is not too big so there shouldn't be too many crowded nights unless it's during a big event.

Yelp
my Relatives from Rhode Island stayed in the Lod Cook Hotel. while this is generally a great place to stay, my sis in law tested positive for Covid while they were here. My brother in law being a very honest person, told the staff who promptly kicked them out of the hotel late in the afternoon. totally inexcusable...and sent them to a different hotel!

Thomas V.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel this past weekend with several family members in several rooms for a wedding. I booked one king and one double. Both rooms were upgraded to suites which was very nice. We found the hotel really clean both in the rooms and in the public spaces. The rooms had lots of great amenities - especially as they were suites with kitchens, two room baths, separate sleeping and living areas. The bedding and towels were 5/5. Cooling and TV's were also 5/5. The included breakfast was a full hot egg/grits/sausage/biscuit affair with all the trimmings. Very courteous check in and check out. We will definitely be using this gem again on our next overnight in Baton Rouge.

Yelp
I highly recommend this hotel! Excellent customer service from all the staff and the general manager, John Grubb. Everyone is so friendly and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Definitely the place to stay when visiting LSU and especially during any LSU sporting events! I also love that they have a gift shop with wonderful selections of LSU attire, which came in very handy when I needed a new outfit for the game.

Yelp
Stayed just one night in room 102, after getting an upgrade from (Jazzlyn and Justin, shout out!) Super clean, spa choir rooms, comfy bed, dual bathroom, full kitchen, breakfast included, LSU security monitored, practically on LSU campus, and close to some great food (try Parrain's - so good.) Thanks for a great stay! Would certainly come back! Allison and Joe

Yelp
Very comfortable hotel. Perfect for LSU parents. And thank you for having a Tesla charger!

Yelp
The room was very clean. Staff was very friendly. The breakfast was good, but can use some improvement. Price was reasonable. I will definitely be staying there again

Yelp
Beautiful rooms smell great and are immaculate and have tons of outlets in every space. The decor is light and pleasant. You are provided a microwave, small fridge, iron, ironing board, luggage rack, blow dryer. You get a free newspaper with your continental breakfast which consists of coffee, milk, juice, toast, bagel, muffin and cereal. For $8 more, you can have biscuits, white gravy, scrambled eggs, yogurt, bacon and I think I saw waffles but not sure. The personnel are nice. Every inch of the hotel is well lit at night. I got turned around driving in very late one night and instantly had help from a security policeman. I will definitely stay here again. Kudos to the house keepers for such detail to cleaning the rooms. They do an amazing job!

Yelp
Super sweet girl at check in. Clean rooms. Decent hot breakfast buffet. Nice bar in the evening with great drink prices. Water wasn't as hot as I like in the shower. The most pleasant place I've stayed in Baton Rouge to date.

Yelp
On a recent recruiting trip at LSU, we stayed at the Cook Hotel. It is conveniently located especially when you have a need to be on campus. As I had many flight complications and had to rush straight to campus once landed, I did not check into the hotel until around 10:45pm. We had a 5:00 am flight, so our first question regarded receipts for our individual hotel bills. We were told that these would be slipped under our room at 2:00 am. That was perfect for us. Upon getting off of elevator around 11:00pm, I was shocked by about 20-25 teens scattered outside the various rooms. I knew I had to be awake around 3:30 am, so this was not a welcome site. The noise level went up and down for some time, but I was eventually able to sleep (it was tame enough). I am unsure if all floors had teenagers like this, or if the hotel was booked and required us to be stuck on this floor. When I woke up, I noticed we did not have our hotel bills under our doors. Once we all made it downstairs, we had to get these printed. I am not sure if the front desk personnel is not used to seeing people at 4 am, but he seemed confused about us requesting bills at that hour. Nonetheless, we were able to obtain them. The ordeal set us back at least 10 minutes for departure. As far as the actual hotel, it was more than adequate for the approximate 5 hours I spent there. The rooms were clean and smelled fine. There was only shampoo though no conditioner, so I'm happy I wasn't set on taking a shower as that wouldn't have cut it.

Yelp
These people will steal anything you leave at their hotel! Management is not helpful at all they gave me the run around for three days. Nothing in the room worked!! What am i paying all this money for! The worst part was that i took my own trash out of my room i seperated the dirty towels, cleaned the shower because they don't do that ( the previous room users body hair was everywhere) and i left a thankyou note for housekeeping and they still stole my things. Sad. Disgraceful. Never coming back by choice.

Yelp
Very nice facility and service staff. Of course the location is prime. Would have been a 5 star but the attention to having HOT coffee ready to go at 7:15 am is key. Luke warm wont cut it. Considering the service environment I suggest a microwave for those that prefer the last sip of the cup to be HOT.

Yelp
If your travels should bring you to Baton Rouge, I would oblige you to stay at The Cook Hotel on the outskirts of the LSU campus. The quality of the hotel is commensurate with the rate ($80/night), ergo one shouldn't expect luxury at the Cook Hotel. However, the room appointments met my rigorous expectations - the beds were comfortable, the TV's large and flat screened, the environmental system vigorous, bathroom appliances intact and clean, towels were acceptably soft, and pillows tolerably fluffy. However, the notable ancillary earmarks included complimentary internet access, breakfast and parking - a pleasant change of pace from the usual nickel-and-dime routine that most hotels get away with. But the best part of the Cook hotel - at the risk of sounding sentimental - were the staff. The front desk was unfailingly polite and helpful, the cleaning staff was gracious, and the kitchen staff that slings out the hot breakfasts every morning - they're quite alright in my book. On the kitchen staff: During our visit, we'd missed the 9:30am breakfast cut-off by 15 minutes. Even though the restaurant was technically closed, the manager offered to scrape together a breakfast for us, and emerged from the kitchen with a very humble but hearty breakfast of decadently buttery grits, fluffy biscuits, sausages and fruit. He continued to dote on our party with rounds of OJ, coffee, condiments, and stories of the hotel's history and famous alumni. After going well above and beyond the call of duty, he left us to our breakfast and our sentiments of content and gratitude.

Yelp
I'm not sure why I keep coming back to this place. The rooms are tiny and the complementary breakfast only includes carbs. I've really never experienced a hotel that offers free breakfast then up charges you if you want anything that could possibly create a balanced meal. If you are attending an event on campus you might consider this hotel if you get a great rate, otherwise stay somewhere else. This will definitely be my last stay at The Cook Hotel.

Yelp
My school sent us to a conference at LSU and booked our rooms at this hotel. It is very conveniently located at the end of "sorority row." The hotel is a great size, not too big and not to small. It is very cozy, clean and well-accommodated. The pool is very nice, as were the rooms and most of the staff. The gift shop is well stocked with all of your Tiger needs. The rooms include a very big mini fridge and a microwave. The beds are super comfy! One star off for two reasons-we had some issues with check-in, which would be no big deal, but one of the girls at the front desk was very short and sassy with us. The other lady was very helpful and nice, but we were a little taken back how bothered the first girl was by us. The breakfast-I can't complain too much about this because it comes with the room, but most of the stuff was cold and not appetizing. Coffee was good and the setup of the area is nice, though. In the end, I would stay here again. The manager, Joel, was amazing and let us go tour the "Shaq" suite, which was fun and decorated with memorabilia. This is Geaux-to hotel for all of your LSU events (see what I did there) !

Yelp
Very nice hotel. Beautiful! Girls stayed here for cheer competition. Nice breakfast. LSU gift shop! Cool place with LSU colored sofas in lobby. Loved it. Nice view of pool from breakfast area.

Yelp
Great place to stay if you have business at the LSU campus. I wanted to change rooms, and the manager/front desk clerk was more than happy to oblige. The breakfast is typical buffet, but filling nonetheless. They also provide you with snacks and soft drinks/coffee/water in your meeting place. This is a conference center too. Great stay for the value!

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel for a wedding and were very pleased with the rooms, comfort of the beds and cleanliness of the facilities. Although not a luxurious hotel, there is a nice pool, the rooms are spacious and it is centrally located on the beautiful lake on the LSU campus. All events associated with the wedding were on campus, most of them being in the hotel and everything was perfect. We would stay here again.
google avatar

Lindsay F.

Yelp
Best wedding hotel experience for us. Our guests were pleased by the high quality of the rooms, quiet location, friendly staff and tasty breakfasts. We really appreciated the way coordinator lined up all the accommodations we needed and made sure that it all our room needs were taken care of. The suites were an unbelievable deal.
google avatar

Russell M.

Yelp
The ground floor surroundings were impressive. The staff was helpful and attentive. But the bar was more than a bit pricey, charging me $15 for a generic bourbon Manhattan. The room, however, would have been more appropriate for a hotel called the Millennium Bilgewater. The bathtub was chipped and worn, the drain was so slow that one stood in ankle deep water while showering. The tile grout on the tub walls sported an ample growth of mold and mildew.
google avatar

Nicholas J.

Yelp
A clean hotel. Comfortable beds. Pool and hot tub were fine. The breakfast was mediocre.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
The hotel is on par with a Hampton Inn. Rooms are clean and public areas are standard. Nothing special. Has a small pool which looked fine. Excercise room was small. The big issue with the hotel which they told me was taken care of after the first time was they kept forgettting to clean our room. The second day we come back to the room and one bed was not made up. I told the front desk and they had some one take care of it. The next day we came back and they did not do anything in the room except give new towels, nothing else. I complained and reminded them the next day and all was ok. We came back to the room this afternoon at 4:00p and they did nothing in the room except give us new towels. I called the front desk and since it is Sunday there are no managers around to speak, They asked if I could check back in the morning. I am not saying I need my bed made everyday, but if you are selling a service, provide it. We were here for six nights and they Nights and they Only took care of the room correctly three times.

Dan B.

Yelp
Friendly, helpful staff, great location and conf facilities. Our suite was clean and roomy. AC worked well in living area but was warm in bedroom. Mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable.

Danica J.

Yelp
I choose this hotel bc it was close to where I needed to be for conference. It's was clean, quiet and nice decor. My only complaint is the Continental breakfast that comes with the room. The yellow tickets they provide at check in for breakfast only provide: cereal, milk, juice, coffee, plain bagel (no cream cheese) plain bread, plain muffin or pastry, old bananas, apples or oranges. You can however pay extra (apx. $8.00+!!!!) for mixed fruit, yogurt, eggs, bacon, etc. Most hotels I've stayed at that provide Continental breakfast include all these things without extra charge. If your gluten or dairy free...you have no options for a healthy meal. Considering what the cost is to stay here I felt it tacky not to include the entire Continental breakfast to the guests. We actually walked out without eating bc if you can't even get cream cheese with a bagel....let's be honest, what's the point!?
