Very unique twist to shrimp and grits... definitely worth trying. Halibut dish was textbook... couldn't ask for more subtle hues and flavors to highlight the natural taste of this Alaskan favorite. The mushroom toast was tasty and clever. The restaurant is a bit over priced in some things, but other dishes fairly priced.

This restaurant is a standout in town and a must-visit if you're in the mood for something different, refined, and restaurant quality. Although we booked online and did not receive a confirmation, the wait time was approximately 30 minutes. We were greeted with a friendly smile, and our waiter, Sean, was attentive and offered excellent recommendations. For entrée, we had smoky fish cakes with a side of pan-roasted Brussels sprouts and mushroom toast. For mains, we enjoyed shrimp n grit, as well as fried chicken. We finished our meal with a delightful carrot cake parfait. Every dish was flavourful and delicious.

Had dinner here and the meal was outstanding. The food was well prepared and full of flavor. The menu was quite diverse and with several great options. The food was a bit on the pricier side but was worth the cost. The staff were friendly and service was fast.

Google
A good meal with dishes that elevates home cooking using local ingredients. Each dish however was just missing a little something to make it an outstanding experience, depth/complexity of flavor was not 100% there. That said, I do think this is one of the better restaurants in Seward and well worth visiting. It gets busy so reservations are a must, we ended up waiting 30-45min for a table without res.

The Cookery is the place to go to have seafood, if you’re in Seward! The food, ambience and service is top-notch! We had smoky fish cakes - it was amazing! The mushroom toast was the best mushroom I ever had! And the fish of the day - halibut was so fresh, it just melts in your mouth! And oh, mashed potatoes🤤! Please go to the Cookery and be ready to experience the food heaven!

I recently dined at The Cookery, and I must say, it was an exquisite experience from start to finish. The ambiance was charming and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere for a memorable meal. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who made sure every detail was attended to. Now, let's talk about the food - it was simply outstanding. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. From the appetizers to the desserts, every bite was a delight for the senses. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp n grits, which was bursting with bold flavors and perfectly cooked. After trying a bite, my partner decided to order one for himself as a second entrée; it was that good! Overall, my experience at The Cookery was nothing short of exceptional. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience!

The receptionist was very helpful. Once she found out that they had an opening, she immediately called us. Our server was nice and helpful, he answered all the questions that we have and came to check on us from time to time. I really appreciate him. However, the most impressive thing is the food. I have been to many Michelin restaurants and I think the Cookery should be worth at least 1 ⭐. All dishes are so tasty. I couldn't find one dish that was below average. My son loves the mushroom toast and I like the Halibut dish. The fish is so soft and crispy outside. Everything is perfectly cooked. It took a while of waiting for the food but it deserves the waiting because the chef takes his/her time to prepare it. The only thing I don't like is they ran out of the local oyster. I guess the restaurant is so popular, they should prepare more oysters. Anyway, it was a Sunday and we arrived late maybe that's the reason.

This is a very upscale restaurant on the south end of Seward. All of the servers were super nice and the food was excellent and everyone was on top of their game. If you have the money to spend on a nice meal, I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Hands down the best place we ate at in all of Alaska on our trip. I got the halibut burger and it was so good!! Then it came with fried? Smashed? Potatoes. I've never had potatoes that way. My husband got the shrimp and grits and it was to die for. Even though we didn't have reservations we were sat quickly. Our order came out very fast.

Yelp
I was able to go back to back days. My favorite large place was the Salmon. The charing on the skin made for great flavor and the salmon itself was very moist. So good, as for sharing the other party only got one bite. The next night, I tried the other large plate, the Alaskan Halibut. Since this was pan roasted no charing, but again very moist and deliciious. Both perfectly prepared. for a dessert, I tried teh cream cheese ice cream with bacon and having salty, sweet and savory all in once package was a suprise. I do recommend this. As for apps I would recommend the chucked osters and the fish cakes. Due to large lunch each day we scaled back what we ordered and found it was just right size wise. Recommend reservatiuons. If you get there at five when they open you night get a seat, else you have to wait the next round.

Yelp
An Alaskan foodie dream. The Cookery is still serving up excellent, complex and perfectly mingled flavors. The fried chicken is phenomenal. It's a new take on fried chicken I had never experienced before. There's a crisp taste of fresh Yerba buena, accompanied by a perfect bed of slaw and expertly balanced maple dressing. Truly this dish is something crafted like a work of art and a must try while dining here. The steak once again is cooked to perfection. Warm, picturesque, hearty and filling. The accompanying broccolini is wonderful. Mashed potatoes as creamy, and delightful as you can hope for. As for service it is exceptional. We have a child with allergies to Dairy, eggs, peanuts and tree nuts. We let our server know and they helped us to navigate their menu, and omitted peanuts from the fried chicken for us. They went above and beyond for our allergies and went the extra mile to separate the dairy containing food on a separate dish to avoid cross contamination. This is a friendly, knowledgeable staff who know their menu well and treat their patrons with Alaskan hospitality.

Yelp
Very good restaurant in town. It was busy and I was unable to make reservations. So party of 5 sat at the bar. Ordered the sourdough bread the butter and olive spread were so good. The fish cakes were also yummy. Bowl of white chicken chili was excellent and hearty. The Ribeye was tasty they give you a nice green chili type sauce for the steak that was great. Oysters were also delicious I liked the sauces they had to put on top. Cute small restaurant with great service.

Yelp
Was so happy we got a chance to come here! And luckily on a Wednesday when they do their 3 wines + 3 appetizers special, a no brainer since there were 3 of us! The appetizers were unique and delicious, we had a red cabbage salad with crispy salami croutons, a creamy polenta with eggplant ragu, and 2 savory cannellonis. They were pretty sizable, and could be a full meal for one person. Since we were splitting them, we also got a few mains, which were also mostly from their specials list. We got the soup o' day which was back bean and smoked sausage and the fish o' day which was halibut with risotto and veggies. And because we wanted to venture off the specials menu, we also got mushroom toast. Everything tasted marvelous! My favorite was the halibut, which tasted fresh and firm, mildly seasoned which let the flavor of the fish itself shine. Nothing was heavily seasoned, and yet was all flavorful, and care was taken to decide what flavors would pair well. We were full, but enjoying ourselves, so opted for dessert too. We got the pot du creme and a glass of port, and did not regret our decision. The toffee creme wasn't too sweet, but was thick and decadent, and the port was a nice way to finish off dinner. Seward is lucky to have a restaurant like the Cookery, was not expecting this experience in a small town! We liked how the also displayed local artists inside, and locals were greeting each other! Would love to return, especially on a Wednesday to see what other specials they offer! This place would be perfect for date nights or if anyone is visiting (as we were)!

Yelp
The Cookery is, based strictly on our limited experience, pretty typical for vegetarian options in the state. As a vegetarian you are not going to starve, but the options are limited. Overall a very nice restaurant with very good service. We cobbled together a dinner menu of 2 Appetizers (brussels and mushroom toast) and a main (beet burger) which we shared. They kindly provided a sharp knife to cut the burger which worked well. I was kind of looking forward to seeing what they would do with the beet burger. After ordering we were presented with Amuse Bouche's (I needed to google it) which was nicely presented and served as a pleasant start to the meal. The brussels were ok, but we tend to prefer brussels served seared and with stronger seasoning. I really enjoyed the mushroom toast, nicely seasoned and everything worked well together. The beet burger itself unfortunately was just ok, the pickled vegetables helped but I'm not sure I would order again. Apart from a dinner salad, it was the only main for vegetarians.

Yelp
We were so excited to get in to try the Cookery and we were not disappointed. Our waiter was great and so funny. The food was excellent. I had the shrink and grits and they were to die for! Would definitely come back and recommend to anyone in the area.

Ed H.

Yelp
We came here on our last night in Seward and so glad we were able to make it. We didn't have a reservation but showed up shortly after they opened and got a table. The Amuse Bouche was a nice surprise to start and was quite tasty. We had the bread with the tapenade and butter and it was quite flavorful. I had the shrimp 'n grits - wow what a tasty dish! The lady had the fried chicken and it was fantastic, crispy with great flavor and juicy inside. We finished with the carrot cake parfait and it was also nice. I had the lemonade and Prosecco drink and it was refreshing. Very nice and friendly service by Lauren and others. Nice ambiance inside. By far our best meal in Seward. Highly recommend and would definitely return.

Ariana W.

Yelp
It was our first night in Alaska and was off to an amazing start with this dinner! Staff was so friendly!! The food was amazing and the location was just perfect! Highly recommend

Joanna T.

Yelp
We didn't make reservation so waited for 45 minutes to be seated around 6:30pm, but totally worth the wait. We ordered Broiled Oyster, Shrimp Cocktail for starters and ordered Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and today's dinner special from the Fresh Sheet - Mussel Pasta (white wine sauce, SO good, I believe the pasta is freshly made in house). We also ordered Cream Cheese Ice Cream for dessert. A bit pricy but definitely not regretted.

Chanelle N.

Yelp
Highlight for me: the oysters, mignonette, and the ice cream. Everything else was fantastic and my partner loved it. Celebrated a birthday so that was great to have a hearty meal. The balsamic vinegar was oddly complementing to the cream cheese ice cream. I'm still in search for my sweet corn ice cream.

Steven N.

Yelp
Being touted as the best restaurant in Seward set up high expectations. But also considering that it's a small town, there's not a plethora of restaurants to compare to anyway. That being said, I think it's important to highlight that reservations are definitely a must. Waiting is a coin toss on whether there's room or not. Now onto the food! My friend and I ordered a few things: 1. Mushroom Toast 2. Pig Du Jour 3. Fried Chicken 4. Cream Cheese Ice Cream 5. Bonus: Amuse Bouche The chef gave us a taste of the Amuse Bouche, which was corn marinated in some sauces. It was interesting, but tasted just like corn (no surprise there). Since it was free, no complaints. Now the appetizer on the other hand was Delicious! The mushroom toast was so savory and flavorful. There's a reason many people order it! Avocado toast, been there done that; French toast, a dime a dozen; but this was unique. You really taste the umami flavor of the dish. Definitely memorable! I tasted the Pig Du Jour and that sausage was juicy and flavorful! Since it was my friend's dish, he enjoyed the majority of it. My dish was the fried chicken. But don't be fooled, definitely not your average Popeyes or KFC. The chicken was crisp and juicy as you'd expect. It was served over a bed of slaw which definitely balanced out the heartiness of the chicken. One of the best friend chicken dishes I've had! Now the dessert was also special. The Cream Cheese Ice cream . So sweet and delicious, which I'll leave it at that! Overall if you're in the area, you need to go here. I heard from many of the workers treat the Cookery is considered the best restaurant in town. Although I haven't been to others, I'm definitely inclined to believe it!

Monicat T.

Yelp
The food here was exquisite. The ambience was like going back in time to a movie theater. The food surface was incredible. The staff was very accommodating to me and my service dog, the bone marrow and the snow crab that we had was to die for I will definitely go back if I ever visit Alaska again, Seward is worth visiting

Joe M.

Yelp
Might have just found one of the best meals I've had in years. My son and I knew we'd have to wait a while since we didn't have reservations, so we were quoted a 120 min wait. At about 70 mins we were about to give up and try a different place when I got the text. We were soo glad we waited. For appetizer we had the broiled oysters, and the homemade bread. Both amazing. My son got the salmon special which had a coconut carrot puree...amazing. I had the ribeye and it was better than some wagyu places I paid 3-4X more. Perfectly seasoned & cooked. We ended our meal with the strawberry hand-pie and a scoop of their cream cheese ice cream. The hand-pie was delicious, but the whip cream itself could've been a dessert! It wasn't too busy, the place was clean/professional, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Our first night in Seward was perfect because of our dinner. My son said it wasn't just a dinner, it was an experience. Make your reservation now, and/or wait however long you need to to eat here, it's well worth it.

Kait S.

Yelp
I am both gluten free and vegetarian which is a tough combo for eating in a fishing town, but The Cookery was able to make it work. I had their beet burger on a salad bed and it was simply delicious. The rest of my family enjoyed their seafood and breads. A lovely lavender soda as well.

Greg B.

Yelp
Delicious food, good service, packed for good reason. Great quality and presentation without any pretense.

Jim S.

Yelp
Reservations a must. Came back a second night as they were full the first night! Wonderful atmosphere and great service! Had fresh oysters and the halibut special. So yummy. So light and flaky. Perfectly done. My wife enjoyed the halibut and sweet potato chowder. Unusual mix but very good. The carrot cake desert was imaginative and so good! A must when you are in Seward

Kathryn V.

Yelp
Bar service was great. Bartender was amazing. Not much with gluten free but they were trying. Wait way too long for the size of the restaurant. Oysters are not freshly shucked. They have shucked them early in the day and keep them in a cooler by the bar. Not cool with me. They were okay but not fresh. 4.50 for Alaska oysters. Wow. My salmon was burnt to a crisp (skin) then raw in the inside. So gross and didn't even touch it. Making burnt and raw takes talent. I was here scouting for a tour company and won't be recommending this place. Too expensive for the product (I don't mind paying for good food). I had heard issues with snobbyness but wanted to try myself. Didn't occur the snobbyness everyone was nice but the food was the worst in Alaska.

Roxanne R.

Yelp
Great service - very friendly and attentive staff. The food was amazingly flavorful and filling. We ordered the mushroom toast, warmed cashews, pig du jour, and oysters. Space was very comfortable and relaxing. Perfect place to celebrate my birthday while visiting Alaska/Seward.

William D.

Yelp
Disappointed a second time. Choices in Seward after the tourists are limited so decided to give this spot another shot. Here is the good news: Service was fast and friendly. The mushroom toast appetizer was creative and quite good. FULL STOP. But, the menu was limited and choices a bit odd. I mean who could be tempted by a beet burger. Never met a beet I didn't like. My wife and I split the halibut special. Generous portion, halibut very fresh. But, no seasoning or flavor on the fish and non on the sauce as well. And, don't know about you, but halibut with roasted potatoes just doesn't seem right. Oh, and it's rather pricey.

Lucy W. H.

Yelp
We enjoyed dinner here so much we went two nights in a row. Friendly vibes. Locals eat here too. Wish they had a little more variety on their menu. We were looking for some more greens and vegetables. Food is tasty and artistically plated. The best thing about Seward is this restaurant - the food and the conversations you will have here.

Leigh H.

Yelp
This is hands down the best food experience we had while we are in Alaska (Sitka, Juneau, anchorage, Whittier, Auke Bay, Seward). Every dish is thoughtfully prepared (nice plating and nice flavors with nuts adding the crunchiness). This is a restaurant that would stand out in Richmond. Hubby made a reservation (that was smart, some wait was for 45-min). The restaurant is spacious and bright with paintings. Our waitress was very helpful and patient - loved every recommendation she made. We had: 1. Cheese balls- we are from the south and hubby loved this dish. Crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Perfect consistency! 2. Fried chicken- it was the thigh and hubby was like hmmm. Here are his note: well done. Chicken was Juicy and crust is crunchy and flavorful. 3. Oysters- fresh. Best I had on this trip. 4. Brussel sprouts- not the fried crunchy type but pan roasted. It still had some crunchiness. It was very flavorful. 5. Bread soup- I think it was a bit too salty but hubby liked it after the hike. 6. Strawberry rhubarb pie with cream cheese ice cream- it is fried. Hubby finished quickly (what else can I say!) 7. Chocolate cream- it was bitter, creamy, with nuts on top. Same- hubby finished quickly. Overall, a must try if you are in Seward.

lucas k.

Yelp
Not usually an oyster fan being from Idaho but decided to go out of my comfort zone. The oysters are fresh as can be!

Kate C.

Yelp
The Cookery was insanely good! Our waitress was amazing - I wish that I remembered her name!! The service truly was above and beyond. The ambiance was great because they didn't rush us at all - they let us stay for 2-3 hours even though they were incredibly busy. Now on to the food... where to begin?! We tried almost all the appetizers and everything seemed to get better and better. We started with the oysters and shrimp. We followed that with a bunch of small plates - the mushroom toast, the BLT toast, the breads and spreads and the pimento cheese balls. We also ordered every single dessert and they were all to die for. Definitely go to the Cookery when you're in Seward!!!

Joe L.

Yelp
First time visitors to Alaska and Seward. We found this place on Google and it was also on our hotels recommended list. We had the halibut, cauliflower soup, and the shrimp and grits. We booked over a month in advance and glad we did. The flavors were great. We really loved the shrimp and grits and the halibut was cooked perfectly. Would have loved to try their dessert but we were too full. The staff was friendly. Price was is pretty similar to other restaurants in town.

Erin S.

Yelp
Nestled away in the town of Seward, this is one of the 10 restaurants in this entire 3 mile town and this is THE BEST. it was difficult to get a reservation and we arrived in Seward on and couldn't eat here until the 3rd night so make a resv! they change the oysters, depending on what they catch that day, and they were extremely fresh! we also got the king local salmon, on a fresh bed of arugula that was season perfectly, and flaky and moist! this restaurants curated menu was the most unique and flavorful out of the majority of Alaskan restaurants we tried, so if you're going to Seward, this should to be on your list! The ambience is just OK. it's a small building and there's not many windows and no view. It's facing towards the town even though there's a gorgeous set of mountains a few paces right outside, so there was a missed opportunity there.

Chris G.

Yelp
Great food, we had brunch out on the covered outdoor area. Service was excellent, friendly and punctual!

Lisa Y.

Yelp
The Cookery was absolutely divine! We had reservations for 5:15 p.m., right after our all day cruise. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters right off the bat. So fresh and delicious! Then we ordered a halibut carnita appetizer, which was also super tasty. I ordered the salmon with spinach, fennel sauce. My partner ordered the tri-tip with veggies and hollandaise sauce. Everything was amazing. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and quick to place our orders and bring our drinks. We also ordered another 1/2 oysters for dessert as they were so so so tasty!

Cathy P.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner! The oysters were perfect and the tostada was so good! The hubby and I both enjoyed the halibut entree, the fish was cooked to perfection!!! Sure wish we lived closer this would be a definite go to!!!

Roxanne R.

Yelp
The Cookery was recommended to us and we are eternally thankful. I only have photos of some of the food as I was sending them to my daughter who was in the UK at the time. We started with the cheese plate. My husband and I savored every morsel. I had the bangers and mash (in honor of our daughters travels. It was on the daily specials. My husband had the beet salad (also a daily special) with a bowl of their salmon chowder. We finished with the pie and Ice cream. Yum!! The ambience of this treasure is very relaxing. Service is. It rushed. Our waiter was friendly without being overly friendly. I witnessed him with several tables and he altered his interactions to needs of each table. I imagine all wait staff is equally trained. We cannot wait to return.

Yoshita Sahishna M.

Yelp
Where do I even start? My husband and I had already spent a night in Seward and on our last night we were debating on whether or not to go here. Given we didn't have a reservation and the crazy high ratings we decided to not risk being turned away and went to another restaurant instead. The food was so terrible at the other restaurant that we decided to leave and try our luck at getting a seat at the cookery. The hostess was so kind, she told us to sign up for the waitlist. We waited less than 10 mins and got seated promptly. Our waiter, god bless his soul, was so kind and understanding of our situation and didn't judge us for literally only ordering salmon and oysters. The food was excellent. It was the freshest oysters and very well cooked salmon. So flavorful that it made up for the disappointing meal we had earlier. We wish we had the space in our tummy to try more dishes here but were so satiated with what we got. Please don't skip this! It'll be a meal you'll remember. This restaurant is a perfect jewel to sewards beauty and hospitality

Jacqueline D.

Yelp
The best meal we had during our entire Alaska trip. What a wonderful restaurant -- very cozy with very kind people. It's small -- highly recommend making reservations in advance. At first I could only snag an 8:30pm, but the night before I saw a 7pm open up so I switched my times! Try as much on the menu as you can!!! The menu is small, local, rotating and very fresh. Everything we ordered was wonderful so please try as much as you can!

Carolyn D.

Yelp
I'm a local and was excited to finally be able to get reservations. I know why now!! What a great eatery. I had a special visitor from DC and knew she was looking for a local seafood experience. The Cookery did not disappoint! Food was delicious, wine choices were excellent and paired nicely. This was an all around good experience. I highly recommend. The owners and staff were amazing, an excellent team. Thank you for an amazing evening, wonderful ambiance and memories.

Ron M.

Yelp
What a place!! Terrific halibut, and their cream cheese ice cream made me want to add another heart ventricle so I could clog the one I've got. For tiny Seward, this place rocks. Loved our server, the service, and the surroundings. Thanks for another great Alaskan eating experience.

Don S.

Yelp
We both had the Halibut dinner tonight. It was as fresh as could be and cooked to perfection with tasty garnishes. Could not all for better. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and food arrived promptly. Be sure to reserve early. They book up.

Robert W.

Yelp
Delish local AK purveyed foods. Professional waite staff that could answer questions.

Cassidy B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food!!!! Went to celebrate our engagement and got several small plates and the halibut special. Everything was absolutely delicious. The halibut was cooked perfectly with a sweet potato puree that was a perfect amount of sweet for the dish. The mushroom toast and scallops tostada was to die for! Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Sara K.

Yelp
Everything we had was delicious! If you're visiting Seward, you need to come here & check it out! Recommend making a reservation.

Reza V.

Yelp
Were visiting Seward for the day, we finished with our boat excursions before 5 pm. We headed over from the marina and got there right at 5. There was a line waiting outside. Even we no reservations they sat us right away. Service was excellent, Food was amazing!!! Highly recommend!

Henry L.

Yelp
Awesome tasting fish specials.Wonderful service. Very attentive staff. Nice vibe. Great place to get a meal.

Amber K.

Yelp
We finally remembered to call ahead of our trip and get reservations! We were seated quickly after a friendly greeting at the door, and our server was great. She was friendly, ready for menu questions, and great with our food savvy kiddos. We started with a few apps, including the fish cake special (halibut and smoked salmon) which was a huge hit, especially with their homemade tartar sauce. The bread plate had cranberry butter and an olive tapenade and amazing sprouted bread, thick sliced and fresh. The cheese plate had three types of cheese and we all ad our favorites, and the apricot chutney was devoured. The crostini and cashews with it were great and we also ordered the warm spiced cashews and easily could have fought over them. We ordered two each of the "mocktails" and both were good. We also got a plain lemonade- that could have used a bit more lemon flavor but was good. Dinner- our teen had the shrimp and grits and he absolutely loved it. The shrimp was cooked well, and it had a lot of great flavors. The cheesy grits were filled with all sorts of things and he said it was one o his favorite meals ever. Our youngest has some allergies, which the server handled beautifully. He had a chopped salad which was full of fresh veggies and great flavors. He wasn't a fan of the cojita cheese on it, and I agree it was a little heavy handed but we aren't huge "cheese in salad" fans. The salad was huge and filling. My wife had the fried chicken. It's boneless thighs deep fried over a fresh green salad and she was in heaven. I had the rib eye with the intent to share (it's a massive 14oz!) and indeed took a majority home! The sour cream mashed potatoes with it were perfect and creamy. The carrots lacked favor but were fine. The steak was cooked perfectly and charred just the right amount, and it was tender with a great flavor. Somehow we found room to share a few desserts! We got the chocolate pot de creme, and the cheesecake ice cream with bacon and berries. The chocolate was very rich and dark, and my wife and younger kiddo loved it. The teen and I preferred the ice cream. Overall a fabulous dinner with mazing service and a great atmosphere. The tables are well spaced, it's well lit but cozy, and it's clean and fresh feeling. The menu is limited- we did struggle to each find something that was exciting to try, especially if you are interested in anything a bit lighter. We did manage though and everything was fantastic- we will be back!

Wyatt L.

Yelp
They can't handle large groups. So sadly we didn't get a chance to try. Seemed like a nice atmosphere. Just anything larger than 10 they can't help. So that was unfortunate. Definitely try it! Just not for big groups.

Mary O.

Yelp
The Cookery is by far our favorite restaurant in Seward. The food is fabulous, and the owners are incredibly welcoming and kind. Seriously, the entire team at The Cookery is outstanding! We were fortunate enough to have reservations two nights in a row (no easy feat) as they are in high demand. On our first night, we wanted to try a little bit of everything. My husband had shucked oysters (they had a special). He said they were the best he's ever had, and trust me, he has eaten a lot of oysters! We also enjoyed the wild and tame mushroom toast, bread and cheese spread, and a summer salad. The next night, Seward experienced a power outage, so our reservation was pushed back a bit. The manager was outstanding in her handling of the situation. She approached everyone waiting in line (lines form early for this restaurant, and it's well-deserved), explained what was happening, took numbers and names, and assured everyone that their reservations would be honored as soon as the power was back on. She encouraged people to take a walk or go to their hotels to get out of the rain, but kindly assured everyone that a great night was ahead of them. She was impressive, even when a family was being a bit rude to her because they didn't understand what was happening. She tried to explain, but they were not having it. I remember turning to my husband and saying, "I would hire her if we owned a restaurant. She handled that like a pro!" I know this review is a bit long, but The Cookery deserves all the accolades. It is outstanding! Be sure to call and get a reservation or you'll be disappointed. It's first on our list if we are ever blessed enough to be back in Seward!

Madilynn S.

Yelp
I would give 0/5 stars if I could. First we get there and the power is out and they don't let us in at first which is understandable. But then the power came on and they still wouldn't let us in for a solid 30 minutes. The hostess came out and she told us that our reservation wasn't up which was fine because we showed her the confirmation but she was still acting as if we didn't have one. We were left in the rain so we eventually went on to a different restaurant after we were the last people left over from a 15+ people line. Needless to say, the hostess's attitude combined with the weather, pushed everyone out.

Tom D.

Yelp
Excellent spot. Great service (by Denise). Came here not a huge salmon fan, but tried it and it was great. Amazing apps and seafood. Nice work!!!!

Ann B.

Yelp
Seward's high end restaurant, definitely worth a stop for a special dinner. We had a wonderful time during dinner at peak tourist season. We enjoyed oyster shooters, the mushroom toast, fried chicken and the seasonal summer salad with salmon on top. The salmon was cooked to perfection with the skin intact and crispy. My husband's fried chicken was to die for, easily the best that either of us ever had. The battering was super light. A lot of people had recommended the mushroom toast but my husband and I were sort of lukewarm about it. Would probably try a different appetizer next time. All in all a great dining spot with carefully curated food and we look forward to going back.

Yelp
The service was great, our waitress was so kind and very funny! The food was also really really great, everything was uniquely good and came out relatively quickly! They gave us complementary baba ghanouj on a cracker and it was very tasty. We got oysters that were really great. The chicken was so crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside! The salmon melted in my mouth. The soup of the day was a carrot with coconut milk and it was incredible. The mushroom toast was also perfect! They just renovated and it was really cute and welcoming environment.

Yelp
Easy to find in downtown Seward. Lovely dinner where the staff was inviting and genuine! Not a big place and not a big extensive menu. But what they do have is High Quality food and sevice. Probably the BEST fish we had the whole time (10 days) we were in Alaska. This place delivered on the presentation and flavors of the salmon and halibut better than other places. They didn't overdress, overseason or cover the fish in a ton of seasonings or sauces. They showcased the fish in really creative ways while being Fresh and Healthy. It definitely didn't weigh you down. Yum! ( I'm going to try to re-create these at home. Well... not me... I'm going to show the husband since he is the one that likes to cook. ha! ) If you like Mushrooms, get the Mushroom toast appetizer. yum Note: definitely make a rez. About 2 weeks before we were in Seward, I looked at reservations and was able to get a 5:15pm for a Friday night. So, if you are thinking of going. Make a reservation as soon as you can. They fill up fast.
