My son and I had a double birthday celebration and enjoyed a great stay in the unique and beautiful Sunrise Treehouse last week. The treehouse was secluded and tranquil, yet was close to everything. The wineries, the restaurants, the bakery, the candy store, the museum, the gift shops, the riverfront park, and the Historic Downtown Hermann were just a few minutes away. We felt we were able to enjoy "civilization", nature, and wellness all at the same time. It truly was a perfect vacation for us. Keely, the host, was thoughtful and cheerful. On the day that I called to make a reservation, I could feel her positive energy and passion over the telephone. She answered all my long questions with total patience and warmth. I truly appreciate her for making our trip extra special!

What a great experience! I booked one night in the Sunrise House for my wife and I’s 10-year wedding anniversary. It was a neat place, and was a new experience for sure. Check in was easy, and it was close enough to town that we didn’t have to drive far for anything. The ladder/stairs to get to the bed was definitely a wild ride every time we used them. Wish we could have stayed longer but this was a one-night trip away from kids. Will definitely book one in the future!

We reallllly enjoyed our stay. The welcome note on the chalk board, treats in the fridge, cozy loft, plentiful windows, reading nook, Alexa for some background music, loft twinkle lights, ease of entry, parking…everything was great! Close to town but private. Juuust far enough outside Hermann to get away from it but easy to get to.

It was a dream to stay in a tree house and this one was perfect! So much natural light with 360 degrees windows that also allowed for an amazing breeze. The bed was super comfy and had a mattress pad heater you could choose to use (I’m now going to buy one - it was amazing). The checkin info was in the form of an email AND video which was an amazing touch. I felt super welcome and comfortable. The small space is used thoughtfully and had all the amenities we needed for our overnight stay.

Our time there was great! The location is perfect, In the country, but just a 10 minutes drive into town. very comfy and cozy, clean, and quiet. With winery's and brewerys in town, there's live music to catch at night on the weekends. Winerys have taste tests with cheese, and tours. There are a couple coffee shops in the area and the Tin Mill restaurant is a great place for a meal.

My husband and I booked the cabin for our anniversary getaway. Everything was wonderful! We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and sleeping in a bit while away from the kids! The hosts were responsive and the cabin was clean and cozy.

This is the cutest location to stay in Hermann, MO. It is only 5 minutes from downtown. It is spacious and such a cool atmosphere in the treehouse. The host was great, quick to bring anything we needed. I highly recommend staying here!

My wife loved the entire experience… on our first night we had a bad storm but it was different to say the least. Getting up and down to the bed was an adventure that gave us both laughs to remember… the town, the selection of food and the nearby water were our favorites. Plan your trip accordingly since most of the activities go from Thursday through Sunday. |The treehouse was clean and we had no issues .. definitely a 5

Yelp
We stayed in the Sunset Treehouse! So lovely! I had always wanted to stay in a treehouse property and the Cottage surpassed our expectations love the interior decor. beautiful setting feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere but actually super close and convenient to the town of Hermann.

Yelp
The Sunrise treehouse is absolutely amazing. It is a great place to stay when exploring Hermann's wineries. The treehouse has the classic Chip and Joanna Gains feel. Morning coffee on the patio in the trees is super amazing. There is a loft space for sleeping. There is a living area with cozy seating and small bathroom. The treehouse is a perfect little getaway to enjoy. Enjoy your stay while almost 20 feet in the air. Be sure to book way in advance, the treehouses are popular and booked up pretty far in advance.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with an evening stay for my birthday in the cabin. The place was very clean, it had everything you would need for a night's stay (mini fridge, wine bottle opener, shower, toilet, bathroom sink, mini coffee maker, and a hot tub). They even offered little extras like chocolate covered strawberries & wine (extra charge). They asked about food allergies such as gluten free (seemed like they were willing to accomodate). They had a chalk board with our names on it welcoming us and giving us the passwords to the Wifi and common area on the property. Breakfast was minimal, but good, and left in the fridge. There were a few bottled waters left in the fridge. The place stayed cool, it had an inside AC unit and dehumidifier. Towels were left inside the door to the hot tub. Even though there are 4 homes (3 tree houses and 1 cabin) on the property, it was quiet and peaceful. I would highly recommend this place for an evening or weekend get-away. The rental was purchased online, and all communications by email or text. Very minimal contact woth the property owners. The only people we saw were the other renters.

Yelp
We stayed her for my Birthday weekend. Very clean, fresh, & friendly. Breakfast was very nice also. Poor cell signal, but that is due to terrain, not The Cottage, (just expect it) WIFI was sketchy also, but hey, don't we go to places like this disconnect and unwind?

Yelp
Cute place. We stayed in the Moonlight house which unfortunately faces the busy highway. Not much noise, but not much of a view. Wifi is crappy and make sure you bring all toiletries cause none are provided. Overall though, very nice place.

Yelp
If I were rating this place strictly on food, I would only give it two stars. However, the ambience, location, and friendly staff raise it up a notch. The outside area by the rock walls was very pretty and the entire setting was nice. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. This is especially true since we were a large party. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the rest of the place. I ordered stuffed pork loin. The food was delivered fast. Probably too fast. I don't know how they could have prepared fresh food for so many in such short time. To me that indicates a lot of microwave use, but I could be wrong. My dinner came with a few thin slices of pork loin, green beans, garlic mashed potatoes with gravy and a biscuit. No salad. The portion size was ample. It was enough to fill me up, but no so much that I had to take home leftovers. I found the pork to be very dry and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were unremarkable and had very little garlic flavor. The biscuit was nothing to brag about. The one bright spot was the green beans. Some people thought they were overcooked, but I enjoyed them. My wife order Tilapia. They were very accommodating and let her substitute garlic mashed potatoes for the rice. She agrees with my comments on the beans and potatoes. She describes the tilapia as limp, slightly watery (although supposedly baked), barely warm, had a nice spice to it, but the fish had a rather fishy taste. Tilapia is supposed to be mild. It gave her the impression of being prepared earlier and had been sitting on a steam table for awhile. Definitely not cooked in the short period between our order and the time it was served. The other reviewers really liked the food. Maybe we went on the cooks night off, or maybe because we had a large group, they prepared a lot of food in advance. I may give it a try sometime when I'm in the area without being with a large group and then maybe I will have the experience of the other reviewers.

Yelp
Went to The Cottage for dinner last night. Easy to find just outside of Hermann, MO. Use other yelper's directions not google maps. Lovely and relaxed experience. I got the stuffed pork loin, garlic smashed potatoes and sauted spinach. Partner got the fried chicken. I have to say that it was by far the best meal I have had in a while and certainly the best in Hermann! Insider info: new location after the first of the year will be in the old Jillsies location in downtown Hermann.

Yelp
Had a two night stay in the Moonlight Tree House. Very nice and relaxing. Exactly what we were needing. The owners are a great couple, very nice. Breakfast was great and made for a great start of the day. The commons area was nice as the zero gravity chair was fun to explore. I recommend staying two nights. If I were to make any complaint it would be just to warn you about the water pump in the bathroom, it will kick on when you run water so dont let it startle you as it makes a humming sound.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! We stayed in the Sunrise. Book early, they fill up months in advance, but it's so worth it. Very nice people who run it, everything was clean and comfortable, and cmon it's a tree house!

Yelp
Loved it. Stayed at the sunrise treehouse. Fantastic view. Great and attentive owner while being contact free during visit. Very relaxing getaway

Yelp
Cute hide-away cozy restaurant. Love the quietness and the interiors. This place brings a relaxing atmosphere. Great service and a delicious light lunch. Love their bread pudding made of donuts.

Yelp
Inside a whimsical and quaint little house set up on a hill in the woods is a darling little restaurant that cooks up some delicious meals and ambrosial desserts. The Cottage oozes charm in ambiance, decor and service with a discriminating attention to detail. We were seated at an attractive table in a corner set with a mint green table cloth with a small candle burning in the middle in what was probably the living room of this former dwelling. You will also find artwork from a few different artists hanging on the walls showcasing their talent. Foods all made from scratch and most locally grown & sourced, the menu boasts a variety of salads, soups, comfort food dishes, pastas, some German entrees along with a great variety of Missouri wines. I had the Hunters Salad, shrimp on Jalapeño Cheddar Grits and the bread pudding for dessert. I would recommend all of these items as they were absolutely fabulous. My husband had the Salted Caramel Pie for dessert which I tasted. Home run! If you are in the Hermann area I highly recommend this place. LOVE LOVE LOVE The Cottage! Menu Originality 5 Ambiance 5 Service 5 Food 5 Parking lot 2(it can be a little dicey, so be careful)

Yelp
The Cottage is a hidden gem just outside of Hermann. (Be careful getting there, Google maps may want to take you 10 miles outside of town. Let it be known that it is just about a half mile outside of town.) While my wife and I both enjoyed our dinner (fried chicken for me, shrimp and grits for my lady) the real show was the dessert. We split the salted caramel icebox pie. Now, when I say split, I mean we should have ordered two pieces because I only got a couple of bites. There you have it, you've been warned. Get two pieces of the salted caramel icebox pie.

Yelp
This is a nice little place for a simple home-cooked dinner. The owner and servers are all very nice and the woodsy location makes it a nice escape from the places in town. We had the pan fried chicken and a zucchini cake entree ($14 and $10). Both were very good, but I would say similary to what we would make at home. I didn't see anything mind-blowing come out of the kitchen. The bread pudding for dessert was obviously warmed over, as was a little ball of spaghetti that came with the zucchini. You know how spaghettie gets kind of rubbery and dry when you microwave it? That's the consistency that was attained. They had about 6 specials, which makes me wonder how many are leftovers from the last couole of days (a pulled pork sandiwch special for dinner??). I'd probably say 3 stars, but the cute decor, nice patio, cool woodsy location and friendly service bump it up a notch. Definitely recommended amongst the choices in Hermann.

Yelp
Very happy with our recent experience here. Have lived in the area since 2010 but just got around to giving this place a try. I'm glad we did and I will be back. They use fresh ingredients and it shows. Staff is friendly and efficient.

Yelp
This is a real gem of a place. The staff is super friendly and service is fast. The food is fresh and seasonal. Most recently I enjoyed the shrimp and grits. I subbed my salad for the roasted veggies which are WAY more fun than a salad any day. Topped it all off with a generous slice of coconut cream pie (that was filled to bursting with coconut, I might add). This is comfort food at it's best. Do keep in mind that reservations, while not required, are a good idea. Also, they will run out of things towards the end of the evening, sometimes it happens right at your own table! It happened to me when one of my 7 dining companions ordered the last of the turnip gratin right out from under me. It all worked out because she shared. It's a good thing too or I might be typing this from a Gasconade County jail cell. ;)

Yelp
Some family members and I had a lengthy dinner here one night and it was just wonderful. The ambiance is lovely, the staff is extremely personable and knowledgeable, and the food is simply delicious. They use seasonal, fresh ingredients so the menu items are frequently changing. They are only open certain days at certain times, so I suggest planning ahead and even making a reservation. But it's worth it! Oh, be prepared for a very, very steep gravel driveway and be careful about following MapQuest if you're using your iPhone MapQuest app to get there...keep your eyes peeled for the big roadside sign that says "The Cottage."

Yelp
The Cottage is amazing. I will not lie and say I wasn't super skeptical and nervous about staying in a tree house lol. But what a wonderful experience!!!! The Sunrise treehouse is charming beyond belief. How wonderful it was to get away from everything. Listen to all the sounds of nature while sitting on the deck. Cracked a window in the bedroom and let all the creatures serenade us to sleep. Waking up early in the morning and sitting on the deck was amazing. Listening to the rooster do his job of waking people up was delightful. Don't worry he is not on the property but somewhere off in the distance. Keely was outstanding. She was welcoming , kind and informative about the town of Hermann and man does she make a fantastic breakfast. Yes you get breakfast in the morning in a quaint dining room. She takes care of everything and makes delicious food. We have already booked another weekend in the fall. Please do yourself a favor and reserve time at The Cottage. You will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
Great little place just outside of Hermann, MO! Everything is cooked fresh, and the menu changes based on the in-season produce. We had the creamed cauliflower and red pepper soup, Mimis chicken salad, pan fried chicken with real mashed potatoes, and orange cheesecake and triple brownie ala mode. We liked the Cottage better than the Vintage restaurant at Stone Hill.

Yelp
I'm surprised no one has posted a review yet. Then, maybe I shouldn't because the secret would be out about this little hidden gem. Every time I go, I fall in love with the ambience. It's in an old cottage house, on a hill (no brainer for Hermann) and nestled in a woodsy area. Inside, the decor is a cottagey white-washed palette (clean and crisp) accented by juicy rainbow colors. Each table has a different overlay atop the white tablecloth (orange, green, aqua, yellow, etc.). And the walls are decorated with colorful, original artwork. Their is an artist studio next door. Outdoor seating available. But you can't eat ambience as the saying goes. Not to fear, because the food is fantastic. Never had a bad meal there. Last dinner I had featured the rib eye with the garlic-cheese mashed potatoes and green beans with carmelized onions. The steak was so juicy and seasoned perfectly. Large size as well. Served with fluffy biscuits. And, they offer raspberry ice tea. It seemed like it took the server forever to tell us all the dessert options. So many yummy choices! I passed because I was so full but my friends say the caramel cake is to die for. The restaurant at the Stone Hill winery is also wonderful. But don't limit yourself when you visit Hermann. Give this fabulous place a try, too!

Yelp
We had supper on the patio, which was very nice on a cool fall evening. Everything we ordered, plus the service was excellent. My wife had fried chicken. I had the pork special, which was pork loin with a praline run @ sauce. I had the stir fried veggies and excellent cheese grits as sides. The driveway is a challenge but worth every bit of it.

Yelp
This is a lovely gallery/restaurant, slightly outside of town. I've eaten here with my girlfriend on our last two New Years trips to Hermann. The menu is fairly small but there is enough to choose from. I especially like the decor, which allows the art to stand out more prominently. We always appreciate sitting next to the gas fireplace and relaxing. I usually have some sort of chicken and Sarah had fish. We were both pleased with the food and service, and you can't beat the prices!

Yelp
We only had one dinner here in Hermann and this place came to us on several recommendations. We've lived in several big cities so have eaten in many restaurants... and we loved this place! The food, pricing, portion size, ambiance, decor, service and location just hit the spot for us. We recommend the fried chicken! Delicious...we'll be back for the bread pudding that we were too full to try.

Yelp
Wonderful food and service. A great place to have lunch with friends. The owner even gave us a ride into town.

Yelp
Great food, Great service, Beautiful woodland settling. One of the best places to eat in Hermann. Lunch Wednesday-Saturday 11-2, Dinner Friday-Saturday 5-8, Sunday brunch 10-2.

Yelp
Me and my girlfriend were in Hermann on a mini vacation. People in town had told me to check out the cottages. We got there and the patio was ok, there wasn't much of a view. Also the pork entrée I ordered was one of the driest things I have ever tasted, I couldn't eat but a couple bites. On the plus side the service was good along with my girlfriends fried chicken dish. Don't know that I would return to this establishment, but they were friendly enough.

Lou Y.

Yelp
We held a client event at The Cottage and hosted 40 people for a nice ladies' luncheon. Everything about our experience was TOP-NOTCH. The food was lovely, the staff was wonderful and the atmosphere was inviting, quaint and comforting. The venue is located on a beautiful hilltop and is located in a woodsy area that just adds to the character of the whole experience. Keely was so flexible with all of our requests and was very responsive. She allowed us to form our own menu and worked with us on everything that we needed to ensure the perfect afternoon for our clients. We would highly recommend this venue. If you stop by here, try Julie's toffee too! It is amazing! Our clients raved about The Cottage after we left and we are truly grateful to Keely and her family for providing our group with the exact vision that we had in mind! Thank you guys!!!

Yelp
A couple of weeks ago a friend invited me to dine with her at the Cottage Restaurant and Gallery at Hermann, MO. We went on a weeknight; not many other people dining at the time. The service was good; and the restaurant was very quaint and inviting. I ordered a chutney with fruit on the side as an appetizer for us to share which was tasty. My iced tea was quite weak; but I didn't mention it as I like my tea stronger than most. The velvet chicken soup was also very good which I chose as one of my sides; but had before my main course. I had the rolled stuffed with mashed potatoes. My pork loin was extremely dry; the home made mashed potatoes were very bland; I couldn't put enough salt on them. I ate the middle from the pork loin which had the stuffing as I was hungry. I cut the meat up in small pieces and got a carry out. I gave the pork loin to my friend for her dogs. My check alone was a little over $23. I didn't comment on my meal as I just wanted to leave. I am a loud talker; even louder when I am not satisfied and felt it best to speak to someone later as there were others dining. The next day I called and asked to speak to the manager. I expressed how good the chutney and soup was; and my disappointment in the main course. The manager was VERY DEFENSIVE and told me I should have told them at the time I was dining. She stated that they had no way of correcting the problem if they were not able to sample the food to see what the problem was; as now all that food was gone and they have prepared fresh food for the new day. She continued that I should do that at ANY PLACE I DINE...to tell them at the time I am present. I did not appreciate the tone and the demeaning manner in which she spoke to me and thus I ALSO became defensive. I proceeded to tell her that wasn't the first bad meal I have ever received when dining out; and not the first time I have called a day later to express my concern. I continued on telling her that whomever I have called expressed appreciation from my call as they are there for their customer. I also told her that I have cooked long enough to know that the pork loin was dry because it was either: cooked to long, not cooked in foil or a covered pan; not marinated; or all of the above...and the mashed potatoes, as with any food, needs to be seasoned while prepared and not when served. She had mentioned that my meal could have been replaced or I could have gotten a complimentary meal. I said I was not trying to get a free meal; but only make her aware and I would not be returning. I found out that she was the chef; perhaps the manager as well. I chose to call again today in hopes of speaking to the manager while I was not hot under the collar! I called at 2pm; I felt that was a good time of day between lunch and dinner. I called, asked if the owner was available. The person who answered the phone asked who I was and asked why I wanted to speak to the owner. I said I would just like to speak to your owner, please. The person answering the phone said that they were very busy at the time. Surprised, I said I would call back; but I will not. I have NEVER called ANY BUSINESS where I was not put through with someone in when I asked; and it didn't matter what time of the day it was! I don't care if it was Walmart, Target, Hardees, or the local grocer! Your customer comes first; and you lost this one. I am in the area often as I am from a nearby county. I now live an hour away... you can bet that I will tell Everyone about my entire experience! Word of mouth is a powerful tool!

Autumn R.

Yelp
While this place has a charming look the food is Very Overrated. I expected something very unique. The food was very bland. Their iced tea was very weak. I should have taken water instead. They put on an air that what they are serving is like what Chef Gordon Ramsey would prepare. FAR from it. So disappointing.

Donna L.

Yelp
We loved this place! We ate on the patio which is beautiful...food was great and not too expensive!

Michael E.

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed the Cottage. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated right away. Although our server was friendly, she didn't seem to know much about the menu. Still, we made our choice: fried chicken for each of us. Problem: only one plate left. So I ordered the small prime rib. I must say it was very good, and the horseradish sauce tasted quite fresh, not store-bought in a squeeze bottle. Both our dishes came with mashed potatoes (although my wife's also came with sawmill gravy). The food tasted very good, but it was a bit underseasoned. The deserts were excellent. I had bread pudding made with donuts (which actually wasn't overboard-sweet), and my wife had peach cobbler, which she said tasted just like her grandma used to make. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere, although a bit dark for my liking, was inviting. We'd definitely recommend it, and would definitely come back.
