Great happy hour drinks! The pool and spa are amazing. Light night swims are a definite treat!

Spent a day here this summer watching the US Open. Beautiful old course that's impeccably maintained. Some of the rough was so deep I can't imagine having to hit out of it. Beautiful grounds. It's hard to believe you're right outside Boston it's so isolated from its surroundings.

The course is in fantastic shape for the US Open. I followed Phil Mickelson and John Rahm in one of their practice rounds. The rough is thick so they better keep it on the fairway this tournament!

Excellent golf property with incredible amenities and priceless history.

In interest of full disclosure I don't play golf, and I didn't play golf here. In fact I didn't even see this place in full daylight. I was there at night for dinner for an interview. I had no idea that this place was some fancy place until people started talking about it. First off those that claim it's the oldest country club in America are flat out wrong. There are country clubs that outdate it by nearly a century. 1882 isn't even that old considering it's Boston. My buddy lives in a building older than that right now. Anyway this review isn't about how old or first or not first this was as a country club and golf course. It's more of a plea that just because you are a member here, it's not a good idea to host an interview dinner here. The reason is because it's a bad venue to hold an event like that. The facilities are old and decrepit feeling. It smells old too, and not in a good way. The waiters look like they are part time kids from high school (actually they better be, or they are definitely breaking some child labor laws). The food had small portions and it was not good (probably because it was prepared by the fore-mentioned children). I think it primary reason why people host events here is because they are trying to impress others by showing off that their are part of this exclusive club. However those attempts will likely backfire if you have to explain what a big deal this place is to people that don't care in the first place. You are far better off booking a nice restaurant instead.

Visiting The Country Club to compete in the GNCC Men's Club Curling National Playdowns was intimidating both on the competition front and the fact that it was held at a country club. Not exactly the environment that I'm used to but in the end they were hospitable and the tournament went relatively smoothly. Despite the relative stuffiness of the club, all of the hosts left us to our games and did not interfere. The bar system was a bit convoluted since we had to purchase tickets and then buy drinks with those instead of just buying straight up. I understand that is a regulation since we weren't members but it was still a bit annoying. The other main aspect that was under the club's control was the curling facility. On a positive side, the ice and the facility were very clean and well maintained. The warm room was well appointed and comfortable both on ice level and in the viewing room above. The Country Club had fantastic cameras and screens on both sides of every sheet giving a clear view of the other side of the ice to the people on the ice and watching the games in the warm room. The ice team did a pretty good job overall but on a couple occasions the pebbling fell apart more than usual toward the end of our games. They were 10 end games with a 9 minute practice session but you expect a little better quality. Thursday night the ice fell off after the 5th end and was completely different than in the earlier part of the game which was confusing to both teams. Overall it was a great experience and I would be happy to play at The Country Club again.

I'm not a member but have played here a bunch on the primrose course and the main course twice. The primrose is not too challenging and a pretty fun course to play. The main course, however, is pretty challenging. While playing I wasn't too focused on playing my best but, enjoying the experience the course itself. It provided a tough test of golf. Advice: put it in the fairway

I'm reviewing The Country Club (TCC) as a place to work, definitely definitely not as a member. I've cocktailed in the dining room during dinner and worked a little on the banquet staff which sets up/serves events. It's an EXTREMELY wealthy, beautiful country club and the staff benefits greatly. The staff is largely a revolving (especially banquet, dining staff is more stable) set of college-aged students, but there are long-time staffers as well. Benefits: - you get a yummy meal with every shift that you work. If you work dinner, you get there around 5, eat, then work. They always have a hot meal, plus a full salad bar, cereals, bread, and PB & J. - often there are extra cookies and goodies from events that they leave for the staff. I had a roommate the takes the floral arrangements home. - starting pay I think is about $12/hour? I haven't worked there in a year or so, but the pay is GREAT. - they have a van that picks staff up from the Reservoir T stop and drops people off at night - very good, accommodating management - I never had any problems and they make a lot of effort to actually get to know you - the dishwashing staff is so friendly! the chefs seem a little more stressed and not always super friendly but my interaction with them was always limited anyways - cocktailing is EXTREMELY easy and was more standing around than anything else - bonding with staff over pretentious, uber rich people & their mannerisms is always great - some holidays you get double or triple overtime pay. fantastic esp for college students that don't go home during the holidays. - some of their events are really very beautiful & extravagant, including weddings, wine/beer tastings. I can (sort of) enjoy them and pretend I'm a part of that world without having to deal with all the guilt I'd feel of actually living like that. - they take the time to train you well, and don't force you to do things you are uncomfortable with. they realize happy workers = happy members. - personally i enjoyed learning all the little details of proper serving/clearing, wine presenting and pouring, table settings...I'm an organized, detail-oriented person and pick up on The Way Things Are Done quickly, though to many this could easily be a irritating negative. Negatives: - while most members are not rude or super demanding, i sometimes felt somewhat invisible (as in unacknowledged) to them. also you really arent supposed to talk to members, not that there's a whole lot of opportunity to. - you can get pressured into working more hours than you want - they always set up for the next days events the night before, so after you serve/clean up from dinner or whatever event you have, you still have to breakdown the room and reset it - meaning moving tables, getting table cloths, counting place settings, setting all the tables perfectly...after a long night on your feet, it was always the last thing I wanted to do. - dining staff wears bowties. ugh. - the excessive of events/waste drove me crazy When it comes down to it, I couldn't have asked for a better place (not to mention pay!) to work. There's glitz and glamor but there's also a sense of history and home-y-ness. As long as you put on a smile and serve the basically all white multi-millionaires of Boston, they really take care of you.

Went to the 1st round of the 2013 US Amateur yesterday - what a great time! First time back since I went to the 1999 Ryder Cup final and it was so amazing to be back at The Country Club. To see the course without the crowds was so different. To be able to walk the actual fairways of the hollowed course was incredible. It's mind blowing to watch those kids play too - why can't I do that? Thanks to the USGA, the volunteers and The Country Club for putting such a great event together!!

This is one of the best private clubs in the Greater Boston area and it is one of the best courses you can plan in the country. This year it ranked #16 on Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Golf Course List. I was fortunate enough to have played this course a couple of weeks ago before we moved back home to Orlando. What a great experience! The club house facilities are old but very charming and full of history. The staff members are some of the best in the business and the golf course lives up to the hype. You have to play with a member and you have to walk with a caddy. It's very old school but that's how golf used to be played and I really enjoyed walked with a caddy. I don't get to do that very often. The course is very challenging. The rough is the toughest part. If you are not hitting fairways, there is no chance to hit the green so you have to really work hard to get up and down around the greens. Even with the caddy telling you what you should be doing, it was way easier said than done. You have to really focus on every shot out there. To be able to say that I've played "The County Club" is going to be a nice treat and I am honored to have been invited by one of the members. If you every get a chance to play this golf course, drop what you are doing and make sure you can make it.

This is NOT a public course and anyone reviewing it as a place you can get on is either mistaken, didn't realize the strings pulled to get them on, or is a liar.
