The Cozy Taberna

We stopped in last minute and was so thankful they got us in. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The squid ink pasta was bursting with flavor. It was a dish I couldn’t stop eating but didn’t want to end. The bacon wrapped dates were good. 3/5 The salad with orange slices and nuts in it was amazing!! Highly recommend. The shrimp was delicious as well! 7/10 on the old fashion. 10/10 on the blueberry muffin beer Service 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10

An amazing experience! I was a bit skeptical at first because of the restaurant’s location, which is tucked away on a side street, but once I walked in, everything changed. The atmosphere is fantastic and very welcoming, and the food is top-notch. Plus, the bartender helped me pick out two local craft beers, and they were absolutely fantastic. Definitely a five-star gem in Salem!

We sat at the chefs counter and really enjoyed the experience, watching the chef and team. They were all amazing as was the food and service. It was Paella Wednesday and the scallop, shrimp and clam dish was very tasty as was the radichio Ceasar salad and wine! I've never had a cheesecake with a little carmelization, YUM. Any time we are near Salem we try to stop in.

This place has been on my list for a long time. We just never have a reason to go to Salem and the hours used to be restricted to evenings. We really don’t like to travel over an hour for dinner because it inhibits our ability to enjoy a cocktail. We were in Woodburn shopping and needed a lunch place. The Cozy Taberna popped up and was open for lunch. This was well worth the wait. We sat at the bar. It’s a lovely little vibe. The bartender was attentive and paced the dining experience to perfection. I had two Paloma’s that were delicious and Each one tasted exactly the same. The drinks were made by two separate bartenders. It’s one of my sticking points, I appreciate the professionalism. We started with the olives and the taste buds began to sing. The olives are served warm. Such a unique flavor profile almost like they were sautéed in brown butter. Next we had the charcuterie board. Everything was harmonious and quite generous. Third course was a shrimp dish and the goat cheese dumplings. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the dumplings were super fun. We finished with the basque cheesecake and a slice of coconut lemon cake. The cheese cake is good. I make this on a regular basis and this a good example of what the cake is supposed to be. If you have never had this before, this is one to try. The coconut lemon cake is coconut forward. It was good. It was served cold which I didn’t care for. I might like it better when it comes to room temp. This whole dining experience was fantastic. Wish it were closer to home.

Went for the first time today with some clients for lunch and everything was spectacular. The waitress knew the menu and guided us on to some great menu choices. Atmosphere was very comfortable and elegant. The food was delicious and the black squid pasta had so much flavor and was one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. I would recommend trying this place as I can’t wait to go back again.

First time dining here and we were celebrating our two year wedding anniversary :) the food was phenomenal! Transported me to another world. I can’t wait to go back.

Such an amazing experience, the food was amazing. This is a great fine dining location, with service that can be beat. I came with a group of 8, and i have absolutely no complaints. While the prices might be on the higher side, you must keep in mind that the portions are bigger, and its a fine dining spot, with high expectations to be considered so. When dining here, remember to be open to trying new things! Its apart of the art/experience as a whole.

Ideal, high-end date night restaurant. This place serves some of the best food I’ve ever had!! Highly recommend the Black Garlic Chicken, Fried Brussels Sprouts, Patatas Bravas, and the Teres Major steak!!! Bartender makes an excellent Paper Plane. Can’t wait to come back.

After an initial visit that left us slightly disappointed with the bar service, we decided to give Cozy Taberna another shot--and we are so glad we did! The stark difference in our second experience was night and day, making this visit truly exceptional. The cozy and romantic aesthetic of the restaurant remains fantastic, and the food and drink menu is still absolutely amazing. This time, however, we had the pleasure of being seated downstairs in Tiffany's section, and she was beyond stellar. Tiffany is the definition of exceptional service. She gave us a complete, helpful rundown of how they structure their tapas menu, offered fantastic recommendations, and was incredibly attentive throughout the evening. We had a great time chatting with her and her professionalism and warmth instantly made our return worthwhile. Her suggestions were perfect--she expertly helped us select a great wine and recommended the black ink pasta, which was a showstopper. Cozy Taberna, when paired with service like Tiffany's, is easily a 5-star restaurant. From now on, we will only return if we can be seated in her section!

The Cozy Taberna's entrance is in alleyway. We loved the Cedar Plank Salmon - smokey, perfectly seasoned and moist. We also liked the Pork Chops - also perfectly seasoned and moist. The Peach Blossom Kombucha was an excellent accompaniment to these entrees. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

My wife and I come here all the time. It's 100% our favorite date spot. Not only is the food consistently delicious with a vibe that is on point, the staff is incredible. We've had Sara as our server several times now and her light shines so bright in there. She always had great recommendations, has the right balance of attentive and hands off, and is quick! We love this spot so much we ended up getting eloped here in one of the booths! Also, when we never have to struggle to come up with a place to take our out of town friends because this spot is always a hit! If you are looking for a killer spot for a date night our a group outing, Cozy is IT.

Another wonderful evening at Cozy Taberna. If you haven't tried one of their Spirt tasting nights I highly recommend it. Tonight was a tasting for Milagro Tequila. Louis, the rep, came up from Southern California and was a gracious ambassador. Bill, the proprietor of Cozy Taberna, acted as our host for the evening. The executive chef prepared a delicious tasting menu. We worked our way through 4 different varieties of tequila while Louis gave us the ins and outs of the process to grow and distill tequila. Overall this was another wonderful experience.

We've been here a handful of times now, and it never disappoints. The service is always friendly and attentive. The food is consistently delicious. Artfully crafted cocktails (best G&Ts ever!) It's one of those places you can rely on for a great meal and a great experience. Definitely gotta try the goat cheese dumplings! Highly recommended!

We were visiting our son who has just moved to the Salem area, and we had a week to check out the restaurants. Cozy Taberna was our best dining overall in Salem. They are serving up Spanish inspired tapas small plates, with some large plates as well. Prices were on par compared to what we spend at home. We had a reservation at the chefs counter, and so we were able to watch all the food being prepared and served. Tons of scallops and salmon a plank were served! We did not have either of those dishes, or the burger, which looked outstanding. We enjoyed the Patatas bravas and bacon wrapped dates to start. The dates were deliciously smoky! Pasta with squid ink pasta was tasty as well, but perhaps a notch too salty for my personal taste. Service, coursing and timing were great along with a very nice waitress. We did engage a little with the chefs, but there was no welcome when we sat down. The place was hopping so we did not want to bother them much. Usually when we sit at a chefs counter it is a more welcoming , interactive and engaging experience. We will absolutely be back here on our next visit to Salem

A Lovely place to Dine in Salem!! The Food is Spectacular and the Service never disappoints!! Their Green Salad is so Delicious you will want one all for yourself even though it feeds three to four guests. Put 'Cozy' on your list as you 'Celebrate' with Friends and Family for the 'Holidays'!!! Thank You 'Cozy' for all of the 'Great Memories' we have made with our Family. My father and I had to come to Salem from the coast for my surgery, and we were fortunate enough to find The Cozy Taberna for my "last supper" last evening. We did not have a reservation, but they were kind enough to find us space at the bar, where our server, and one of the best bartenders my father and I had ever experienced (across Las Vegas, Dallas, TX, New Orleans and many other destinations, including International ones) -thank you, Taylor for your excellent and very patient assistance. He ordered the Vieux Carré cocktail and the presentation alone was sublime. Sangria Roja was delicious and fresh as well. We decided to split the charcuterie board, as we weren't particularly hungry (but everything on the menu looked delicious and well thought out, kudos to the Exec Chef). Every single element on the charcuterie board from the Marcona almonds, the fresh honeycomb, the terrine was stellar, the cheeses were all delightful, however the standout to us was the bleu cheese (it was gorgeous with an almond dipped in honey or as a standalone) You really cannot go wrong with anything you order here. You can tell from the design choices, the thoughtful seasonal menu, the extremely creative bar program and the well trained staff-this is a gem in Salem. We'll be back with more people (and a reservation) next time. *PS-my surgeon and the clinical staff all stated this is a favorite spot for them as locals and that Salem is fortunate to have this spot, I agree. Thank you for making an anxious evening into a lovely experience.

Tucked in a little alley in Salem, Cozy Taberna lives up to its name with a warm, inviting atmosphere and an open kitchen that makes the dining experience feel personal and interactive. We were lucky to sit at the chef's seating area, which gave us a front-row view of the action in the kitchen, a real treat if you enjoy watching dishes come together in real time. We started with a simple but delicious combo: warm olives and salted almonds. Both were thoughtfully seasoned and served warm, a detail that made them feel extra comforting. I only managed to get photos of these two before we got swept up in the rest of the meal! The goat dumplings in arrabbiata sauce were unexpected, more like tender pockets of goat cheese cooked in hot water than traditional dumplings wrapped in dough but still flavorful with a pleasant kick from the sauce. The seared scallop was one of my favorites, perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. We also tried the patatas bravas, which were just okay for me, but a must-have according to my son. The meatballs, however, were a hit with my partner and son. We ended on a high note with the molten chocolate cake, which was absolutely to die for, warm, gooey, and rich with every bite. Pure molten deliciousness! If you're looking for a spot with great food, a cozy ambiance, and a bit of a hidden-gem feel, Cozy Taberna is well worth a visit

Great spot! The ambiance inside is slightly dark and very beautiful. The food was so delicious definitely a tapas type menu great for sharing. Forgot to take photos. But we shared the shrimp gambas, patatas bravas, goat cheese dumplings and salmon. The goat cheese dumplings are a must!! They were the star of the show. The cocktail and wine list was great. Great date night or celebration spot. Also loved the location, it's in an alley way so you don't get the noise of cars driving by. Service was also very attentive and friendly. Would definitely go back!

Nestled in downtown Salem, Cozy Taberna truly lives up to its name with a welcoming atmosphere and lively energy. All of the happy guests sets the stage for a great experience, and its no wonder locals recommend the cedar plank salmon. During my visit, I decided to try the Charcuterie Board. The presentation was on point, though I did find the portion a little small for the price. Still, a great spot for gathering with friends or enjoying a casual evening out. If you're looking for good food and a vibrant setting, is worth checking out!

We slipped in for a snack on a Sunday afternoon, and grabbed a couple of things from the Starter menu. The charcuterie board was varied and full, with many things we've never tried before. We also got an order of the lamb and beef "Moorish Meatballs," which were excellent.

This is my favorite restaurant in Salem. The first time I went, I was alone and it was difficult because the menu is meant for sharing. I didn't find the staff was very helpful and figuring out the right portions. I had leftovers- which is fine- but the restaurant didn't have forks or napkins, which made it difficult to enjoy my leftovers in my hotel room. I returned with my husband in Oct 2024 and it was a much better experience once I had an eating partner. Each course was delicious and we had a great time! I highly recommend the Cozy Taberna, but it's not as enjoyable as a solo diner.

Wonderful restaurant in Salem. Visited this place twice during my 2 day visit to the city. We ordered their lamb chops (the best) along with garlic shrimp and sourdough bread (delicious). For desserts we ordered their cheesecake and their version of choco lava cake with ice cream. We devoured their desserts. They make some really nice cocktails - we stuck to old fashioned for both the visits. The service is great, ambience is cozy and for parking there is a garage nearby. All in all highly recommend this place in Salem.

This place never disappoints! Came here for Father's Day. We had the steak, salad, scallops and the cheesecake. All very delicious and beautifully presented. Service was great as well and couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. The sun was out, had a great time!

We were visiting from out of town and this place came highly recommended on Google and Yelp. We were running a tad late and got there 10 minutes after our reservation (around 8:30pm) and we were sat immediately after checking in with the hostess. There were paper menus on the table, one for drinks and one for food. The drink menu was extensive and had a very large selection of cocktails, mocktails, beers, and soft drinks. We ended getting a mocktail and a beer. For food, we ordered the Wagyu Tomahawk, asparagus, fries, and the clams. our waitress, Tiffany, recommended that we should get an extra side of bread to go with the clams, and it was amazing. The bread was nicely coated with butter and clams had a tomato base with chorizo and bacon. Asparagus was amazing with the candied pecans (eat the pecan and the asparagus in one bite, you won't regret it). We had the shoe string fries also and the garlic aioli stole the show. Last but not least, the 48oz tomahawk steak, which was topped with chimichurri and micro greens. The steak was so tender and juicy. We did not end up getting dessert. But we did highly considered the baked alaska.

I want to give Cozy TWELVE stars!!! We had the most incredible dining experience!!! We sat at the kitchen counter and were placed right next to where the runners pick up the food. Several folks commented that we had the best seats in the house and they weren't wrong! All the runners, waitstaff, and the sous chef were so awesome. They answered our questions and gave us so much insight to the food and running of the service which was an incredibly well-oiled machine! We definitely got dinner and a show! We saw every option on the menu except for two things so we want to come back to order based on what we saw. Thank you so much to Bill and his incredible team!

Yummy but be warned the salads are massive! Loved the Basque cheesecake, amazing. Nice atmosphere. The chefs might be a little hot in the kitchen

This place is amazing from top to bottom! The food was phenomenal. Everything our group of six ordered was fresh and delicious. Recommend sharing plates for everything because the food is portioned well to do that. The service was some of the best we have experienced anywhere in the area. Our server was sweet and patient with us as this was our first visit and we had a lot of questions. You enter the restaurant from the alley so we were pleasantly surprised at the warm and inviting interior and our cosy booth for six. My only regret is I forgot to take pictures of the food that was definitely picture worthy. We will be back!

Greta ambience and service. Food was amazing. Cedar plank salmon is a must get. Didn't love the fresh baked brioche... just not much wow factor (seemed like overpriced bread).

Favourite restaurant in Salem hands down. Usually get a bunch of small shareable plates which always hits but this time got a burger and it went above expectations. Drinks are gas too

My wife and I had never been here before but the couple we were dining with had. We started with the salad, Brussel sprouts and asparagus: all very good, tasty and a great way to start the meal. I ordered the flat iron steak while the others all had the Bacon Manchego burger. Unfortunately, my steak came out cold the first time and by the time it came back, it was only lukewarm but the shishito peppers had steam coming off them. Of course, everyone else had finished long ago so I finished my steak so we could leave. One note about the peppers is that they leave the stems on so unless you can cut them with a knife, they're pretty much garnish. Our server, Angie, was very nice and attentive. When the check came, our friends noticed that we had been charged $8 for a soft drink refill. He questioned that and also asked that there be some consideration for my steak - in the end, she removed the refill charge and also comped the steak which was unexpected. We will probably go back but I'll most likely get the burger next time.

Great spot for a chill dinner! The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, perfect for winding down. The food was tasty and the prices were very reasonable--good value for the quality. Definitely a solid go-to for a low-key night out.

I really enjoyed the friendly staff and atmosphere that they curated here. Truly a great experience with incredible food to boot. The dish was perfect thank you so much! Popped in on a Saturday night and while I highly recommend reservations, there was room at the bar or at the chef's counter. Be aware, if you choose the latter it can get too warm near the ovens and cooktop. Service at the bar was great and the food was spectacular. The Spanish style and flare offers something for every taste without an overwhelming menu. You get the sense of a well planned and designed selection. The ambiance wasn't too noisy either. As a long time local resident who moved away and returned to visit, this was a great new find. My only critique would be that it's a bit expensive.

Consistently flavorful and wonderful. Here are a few of the newer menu items. Only thing holding me back from 5 stars is that they often forget to give me a big ice cube for my cocktail even when I ask. Easy mistake.

Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is hip-neo-industrial. This place is hoppin', loud, and fun.l! The menu is Spanish leaning, but with contemporary fusion twists. We started our adventure here with a glass of wine and a couple of custom ordered martinis that were delivered without complaint. I had the Honey Brined Pork Chop that is topped with a peperonata of sweet pepper, onion, and tomato. It was cooked properly and presented beautifully. The wife had the Cozy Harvest Salad (half portion, which was huge). It was perfectly dressed with a pomegranate vinaigrette, and included manchego cheese shavings, which are similar to Parmesan shavings. We concluded our meal with a piece of Honey Rosemary Spanish Fig Cake, that was as good as you are imagining it would he - fantastic! I also had a dessert coffee that was prepared nicely. Our server, Gabby, took very good care of us even though the place was hopping on a Saturday night. The entrance to this restaurant IS NOT AT THE ADDRESS ON THEIR WEBSITE !!! IT IS AROUND THE BACK OF THAT BUILDING IN AN ALLEY!!! It is worth the confusion to find it, just mildly annoying. The bill was cheaper than we both guessed, mostly due to the drinks being quiet reasonable. We've only been here once, but I'm confident that it would be fairly consistent.

Francisco was our server. He was great, friendly, engaging. Sat at the Chef's Counter. I recommend a up close look at the food preparation. Had the Goat. Cheese Dumplings, Prawns, and Salmon. All dishes were amazing. Crafted cocktails and Sangria, yum. Beautiful setting. Enjoyed myself thoroughly. Best restaurant in Salem for food quality, taste, and cost.

Delicious meal! Everything we ordered was WONDERFUL and my in-laws said one of the dishes was even better than in Spain!!

The Cozy Taberna is still one of my favorite places to visit. Mainly only special occasions now since we've been multiple times for social events either friends and family in the past. I know they are now under different ownership from the previous times we've been, but we are still getting the same good quality service and food.

I used to love this place, mainly because the cozy lounge downstairs has been a great option for a quiet dining experience with my mom, who's hard of hearing. Sadly, they've made some changes to the lounge and it's now pretty tacky. They put up a few huge TV screens that rotate through close-up pictures of the food and pictures of the owner with random people. Why would I need to see this?? The food and drinks are still great. But spending $50+ for 3 scallops is just silly.

Had a girlfriend date here. The interior is moody and cute. Great spot for date night. Food here is meant to be had family style and good comes out as it's prepared. We can the salmon and a couple apps and that was plenty for us! Our waitress was friendly as well

Great experience! We were able to make a reservation which was nice, when we arrived we got seated right away. All food was amazing, perfect service and ambiance! Chocolate molten cake is a must!

This is a fantastic special occasion restaurant. The food is delicious and sharable. The service is top notch. The lower lounge is less noisy and accessible by inside stairs.Their alcoholic drinks are fairly priced. Take your date here and make a positive lasting impression. Its not cheap but worth every penny spent.Highly recommend...Oh,and the desserts are the best you will ever find anywhere.

Great food and atmosphere! The Teres Major Steak and Flat Iron Steak were both perfectly cooked, and the sides were delicious.

I am so in love with this spot. The food is amazing (HUGE portions). You can absolutely get multiple plates and share. The drinks are beautiful and tasty. Service was incredible, all the staff were super friendly and efficient. I love the ambiance also, it's cozy but spacious. Just dark enough for a little bit of romance but welcoming enough for a special family dinner.

Our first night out to the Cozy Taberna tonight, and what an enjoyable night! Lately, it seems very hard to find a really nice restaurant in the Salem area. There are 3 or 4 we frequent pretty regularly, but tonight was our anniversary, and we were looking for something different than the regular places. We sat at The Chef's Counter. It was a bar-style seat, but the seats were comfortable. Sitting there was very nice. First of all, it's cold in Salem right now, and second, the heat from the grills and ovens made it super comfortable. It was also very interesting to watch the food being prepared. The chefs all seemed to be enjoying their work. One thing that stood out for me was how, with each piece of meat that was taken from a grill or oven, a meat thermometer was used to check the temperature. This impressed me. All the dishes are made to share, and the menu looked really good, so we ordered four items: Fried Brussel Sprouts, Radiccio Salad, Moroccan Brick Chicken, and Sirloin Bavette Steak. I wasn't crazy about the radiccio salad. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't for me. The brussel sprouts, chicken, and steak were a different story. I couldn't get enough of them! The brussel sprouts were sweet and savory. The chicken was pretty spicy, in a Moroccan way. And the steak was perfect! It wasn't until it was gone that we remembered it was "just a sirloin steak". In short, dinner was fantastic. The staff were very helpful and courteous. The atmosphere was great. The music was very tasteful. We'll definitely return for another great evening.

We visited for brunch on a Sunday morning. Our server and, indeed, the menu, were both misleading in terms of portion sizes. There were four of us and three of the orders arrived in actual meal sized portions suitable for sharing if you wanted to - for anywhere between $15 and $20... kinda pricey for pancakes, but okay. However, one order, a Tortilla de Patatas, was more like a miniature slice of quiche. It was literally three bland bites for $15. We had to order an additional item to even approach something shareable. This, after the server specifically said that their portions were large enough for sharing. Can't say there was anything that stood out about the service. Not worth another visit, especially for the relatively outrageous prices.

Highly recommended by another chef and restaurant owner for a flavorful meal. No vegetarian main coarse options other than salad and a starter and not willing to modify or adapt a vegi main coarse Sad - as. I Have to leave and go to the steak house next door which has two main coarse options vegetarian. Vibe of establishment is amazing with a good bar vibe. Hope the chef s able to modify options in the future

The Wine Pairing dinner was easily Michelin star worthy. That was one of the best dinner experiences I've ever had. Every single meal was unique, originally crafted and perfectly matched with each glass of wine. The Cozy owner & the vineyard of the night explains how they created all the foods and drinks served, offering both an awesome learning experience and inviting environment. This dinner took the number 1 spot of the best dinner experience I've ever had.

Great ambiance. Good food. I think it would be a great place for larger party than just the wife and I. The portions are quite large and are made for sharing. I was kind of taken back by the prices on the menu but after receiving our food realized that a lot of the portions are for sharing. With that we over ordered for just the two of us. Took food home. Unfortunately I'm traditionally not one that likes leftovers. You'll love the atmosphere here no doubt. And the food is well presented and quite good. The one thing that kind of bugged me was that we had multiple servers during our visits. There seemed to be a lack of continuity to it all. We had to wave someone down to ask for additional items multiple times instead of our waiter noticing and attending to us. I also thought the way they do the tipping is weird. I didn't notice that a tip had already been placed on our bill and ended up adding an additional sizable tip. I thought the bill seemed rather high but.... Didn't notice until I got home. That one was on me. My bad. We've been twice now (figured everyone can have a bad night) but second visit the service was even worse. I doubt we'll return.

Okay, I'll start by saying that this place is NOT cheap. But you are truly paying for flavorful, quality food. The bone marrow board is an experience if you've never tried bone marrow before. You get to spoon out the marrow into fresh bread, which ends up tasting like rich umami buttered bread. 10/10. The drinks are great, too. They pair very well with the food. Next time I'll have to try one of the main entrees. The ambiance is relaxing, and the service is attentive. I like that the front of the place can completely open up for a cozy alfresco feel.

I have been here once, when visiting from out of town. It is downtown, and parking might be a little ways a way, so if you have mobility issues, you may need to consider that. But, overall, the atmosphere, the food, the service were all very gratifying. Pricing gets up there, as with all small plate restaurants, but it was a fun place to try! The dishes we shared were: - A picture of sangria which was lovely - A salad with pickled strawberries and rhubarb and spicy hazelnuts which was delicious - Goat cheese dumplings with garlic bread, which was tasty - Sirloin Steak with mushroom sauce was very nice - Grilled asparagus with crispy prosciutto and lemon vinaigrette which was wonderful - Patatas bravas were okay - House made brioche with war, salted honey which was unique It was a very enjoyable dining experience! I would gladly come back!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in town. Brittani used to be head chef and the dishes were always flavorful and creative. I used to bring out of towners here, have girls night here, or just enjoy a romantic dinner. Now sadly the food just tastes like salt. The staff and drinks are still wonderful but the food is now bland and disappointing. I still enjoyed the patas bravas but didn't enjoy any other dishes. Even ones we've had before. This includes radicchio salad, black garlic half chicken, and grilled garlic rubbed bread. We usually grab dessert but I was so skeptical after that dinner that we didn't opt for it. Overall it was disappointing as it was a favorite, but I wouldn't go again unless the food changes drastically.
