The Craigellachie Hotel

We were doing The Macallum distillery and the Craigallachie was an ideal base 10 minutes drive away. Our room was comfortable and we had been given a free upgrade. The room had been changed and updated very recently. It was warm nicely decorated and very comfortable with a couch and excellent shower. We loved the open fires in the longe areas for atmosphere. |The staff were all excellent and attentive. |The whiskey bar had 700 choices and a great atmosphere. |Breakfast was excellent with many choices. |We went for a walking along the river bank after breakfast which was across the road with the historic bridge to admire. |We plan to come back!

Stayed 3 nights at Craigellachie Hotel while we ran the 2025 Dramathon. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was changed to offer a buffet, too, to help runners who were needing a quick bite for going to the start line. That was nice of them. The woman who ran the hotel's day shift was wonderfully charming, inviting and helpful. We felt as if she had invited us into her own home. ||Yes, it is an older hotel, and the stairs do have a slant. That's character -- and I'm all in.||Be sure to order taxis in way in advance if you want to tour a distillery. ||Would love to return.

Overall pretty good, nice bar. Please be advised though; make sure and reserve at the restaurant if you want a dinner guaranteed. For breakfast it’s better to go early as breakfast items will run out and you can expect to wait up to 45m for your dish to arrive.

Jane the hotel concierge was so welcoming and went out of her way to assist us. The hotel is spacious and beautiful. The rooms large and beds very comfortable.|The restaurant gets very crowded so book a table before. When my Sunday roast meat was not to my liking (although its accompanied vegetables were delicious) they made it right. Breakfast was good

This was an amazing stay. The one regret we had was not booking a car service ahead of time. We didn't realize taxis were not readily available. Jane went above and beyond in trying to help get us a car. In the end she thoroughly explained how to use the bus to get to everywhere we needed to go. She was so amazing. The hotel is beautiful, the food was amazing and the bars were quaint and fun. I would highly recommend this as a stay at the hotel or even a stop for a great meal and a drink.

Beautiful location with views in the heart of Speyside and the perfect place for current and aspiring whisky enthusiasts. The Craigellachie is everything you’d expect in an old Scottish hotel - friendly, accommodating staff, an inviting entryway with creaky hardwoods, a library to lose yourself in, and a famous whisky bar very deserving of its recent rave reviews by previous guests. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the lovely Jane, who throughout my stay always checked to ensure I had everything I needed. Breakfast was included with the room and offered a very nice variety of cold table and prepared dishes. Very attentive serving staff, in both the breakfast room and the restaurant. Absolutely delicious dining experience with a nice selection of wine. If you’re in need of a jog, a walk or a little exploring, the hotel grounds lead to a wooded path that’s perfect for a short stroll or bit of exercise.. The real gem of the hotel is the Quaich whisky bar - an absolute must experience during your stay. You’ll be well served by their expert staff, particularly Oscar, whose passion for Scottish whisky, encyclopedic knowledge, and refined palate make him the perfect guide to help you uncover new favorites while introducing you to whiskies that share the character of the ones you already love. You don’t have to be a whisky lover to appreciate the relaxing time you’ll enjoy here. However, if you aren’t already, I dare say you may depart as one.

A beautiful historic home surrounded by a small village. It has a well stocked whiskey bar with 1000 choices to taste. Several nearby pubs as well. Cross the Spey river over a lovely old bridge and walk the train lines converted to pedestrian paths. Too many nearby distilleries to name. Evergreen trees and Birch, weathered rock and fast moving rivers. Friendly staff, wonderful food, comfortable rooms. We loved our stay here and will hope to come back soon.

Absolutely smashing! A quaint hotel in the heart of Whiskey Country and either a short cab ride or bus to any distilleries you desire. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They were kind enough to let us store our luggage while we went on a distillery tour (it is quite difficult to manage suitcases while touring). There is a bus stop at the bottom of the inn as well as on top of a very busy road up top. Bus stops up there are a bit hit or miss on when they stop for you or not, so you could try your luck! Food was delicious (dinner and breakfast). It was easy to order and charge it to the room. The downstairs restaurant can get busy so a reservation is recommended. Guests staying at the hotel get to choose a time for when they would like dinner. The Quaich bar is open 5/6pm and has a bespoke feel to it, with a multitude of whiskey options. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable! The heated towel rack was a surprising perk I didn't know I needed. We cannot wait to come back!

Being able to stay at a scotch distillery, or in a building next to a distillery, is pretty unique. Craigellachie is a beautiful property on the exterior, generally feeling like a mansion in the Scottish countryside. People working here are kind and attentive. The highlight was them arranging a late night meal of sandwiches while I was at Macallan distillery. The scotch being ready and set in the room is nothing to snuff at either. Breakfast is excellent and once again, people working it are very nice. There is a decent dinner restaurant at the hotel that I did not find very impressive at all, mainly due to the quality of beef, which was not on par with that in other restaurants I've experience in Scotland. Is this a luxury property? Absolutely not. The age and level of maintenance shows throughout. Is it a great homey place to stay a couple nights? It sure is indeed. For those curious and coming from the US, I'd say this is can be considered a 4 star hotel that shows it age, but has a unique and personal touch to it. It's a separate and more complicated discussion if this property is worth the money, but I've enjoyed my stay here as a whole.

Overall, would totally come back to the Craig! The Quaich: 5/5, 100% fabulous. Angus, the extremely well-educated on whiskey for his age, humble, hilarious bartender (he was more an educator than a bartender) was fantastic. We were lucky enough to have some time 1:1 with him and had the opportunity to ask a bunch of questions about Scotch. He walked us through a few different unique drams and he also turned us onto the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society which we immediately joined to get some really fun, bespoke whiskeys not available to the public. Copper Dog: 5/5, a great stop and you can't beat the convenience! Cozy and comfortable atmosphere where I got to snuggle up with my husband, eat elevated pub food and enjoy the live music! Hotel: 4/5 - overall, the place is adorable with a great location in the whiskey region. That said, and it may have been our fault for booking a snug room, the room was quite small, and hot (we had the window open the whole time). Reception was polite but not overly friendly - I'm usually comfortable asking questions but hesitated because I felt like I might be bothering her. For example, we asked about breakfast and she said yes it's serving, watched us walk out the front door, where we went downstairs and found the door to the restaurant locked but people inside. Went back in and she was nowhere to be seen, so went back to our room. Came back a while later and turns out it's actually locked for breakfast and you had to go into a separate entrance from reception... thanks? Couldn't come grab us when you saw us walking outside? There was literally no one else around.

Stayed at this hotel for a night while visiting the whiskey region of Scotland. Third hotel in three nights and definitely the favorite so far. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious. Slept great after a long drive. Rooms were clean. The bathrooms included a warm towel rack, large tub, functioning shower, working toilet, and combined hot & cold water sink. My previous hotels in Scotland seemed to have separate hot & cold spouts so you had to "mix" the water to get "warm" water. The hotel was decorated very nicely. It seems to have some history to it. There is a bar located in the lobby that is filled with bottles of whiskey. Looks like a great place to grab a drink. My only complaint is that the Internet signal was very spotty from the room. Perhaps we were just too far from the lobby.

We had a lovely (relatively inexpensive) bite to eat at the downstairs bar and restaurant, and then adjourned to The Quaich bar upstairs, with literally HUNDREDS of whiskeys from all over lining the walls. The bar staff were enthusiastic and helpful, and we had a delightful time building our own tasting flight for a reasonable price. Highly recommend stopping here on a trip through distillery land!
