Where to Stay in Bogotá When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I stayed in a backpacker institution housed in a remodeled colonial house that had everything I needed: comfy pod bunk beds and private rooms, a fully equipped guest kitchen, great showers, an on-site bar/restaurant, and plenty of common space including outdoor patios; the staff were super helpful and even helped me book tours and excursions." - Matthew Kepnes

Great Hostel, have stayed here twice. Other reviews frequently call this a social or even party hostel… but that has never been my experience. It is more laid back and chill. Great breakfast… not sure if they serve at other times. Not a very active bar, though they do have a bar. Seems like a safe street, good security.

Visitors to Bogota, ||I found the Cranky Croc a bit by accident 5 years ago; this as I was working to start a small advocacy nonprofit in Colombia working with refugees. Over the early years of our work I stayed in about every hostel in Bogota. The Cranky Croc has been the best place by far – this when traveling alone or with my partner, now my wife. I most recently arrived in Bogota with my wife and our three children. They have always found us a good space at a good price. They have all cotton sheets, super clean bathrooms and showers, plenty of hot water and a nice kitchen with a great stove, fridge and oven for the use of guests. They have a little café open all day with healthy food and if you really want they can make you nice spicy French fries and serve you an IPA from tap. | |In their large space there has always been a quite spot to work, or hold a conference call or fiddle on one of their guitars when feeling a bit melancholy. It is located in the most interesting part of Bogota – Candelaria (old town), with close access to climb Montserrat to the church that overlooks the city. It’s close to the Sunday flea market and restaurants ranging from bohemian to artsy to the quite fancy. | |To be complete I should mention – its spotless, staff are very kind, super friendly and pleasantly philosophical if in need of a little conversation. | |It’s just the best. ||Douglas Lyon MD |Founder of TodoSomos.org

Great location, super kind staff and a nice and cool vibe. Easy to meet people and a bar and kitchen available for breakfast and dinner. I booked a private room after a 24h journey and it was great! The room wasn’t too spacious but I had zero issue with that, the bed was comfy and everything was very clean. A reading lamp would have been great but that’s just a minor note. Recommended!!

Great Hostel! Andy, Natalia, Luciannie, and Fadi have truly made this place feel like home. Close to everything and their breakfast/dinner is pretty good. All the staff here are wonderful. From getting your phone setup/recharged to tours, they got you covered!

I spent 12 days at this well managed and welcoming hostel in a prime La Candelaria location walking distance to many of Bogotá's wonderful attractions. There are also many fine restaurants, cafes and convenience stores in close proximity. I stayed in a room with a spacious private bathroom. The walk in shower had good water pressure and there was plenty of hot water. The bed was large and comfortable. The room also had a smart TV and plenty of storage space. The wifi reception was good. The hostel was very quiet overnight. Accordingly, I always had a good night's sleep. The hostel staff were all courteous, professional and English speaking. The hostel includes a great restaurant that serves breakfast items until noon and dinner starting at 6pm. The meals I had there were all delicious and reasonably priced. The hostel can arrange several worthwhile tours/ excursions of Bogotá for guests and offers a reasonably priced airport transport. All in all this was a very pleasant stay for me as a solo senior traveller and I would definitely stay here again when visiting Bogotá.

I absolutely loved this hostel. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. I’m a solo traveler, and this was the very first place I stayed when I arrived in Colombia — I’m so glad I chose it. The people working there were genuinely lovely; I felt comfortable asking anything I needed to get familiar with how things work in the country. I honestly couldn’t imagine a better place to start my journey. ❤️

The Cranky Croc Hostel is one of the best hostels I have stayed in! (And I have travelled to over 65 countries!). The location is perfectly situated right next to a transmilenio stop — convenient if you want to get around via public transportation, it is about a 14 minute walk to the Monserrate, and the best part steps away to everything special about the Candeleria. The staff and owner Andy are the nicest most welcoming people and the security and cleanliness of the hostel is a 10/10. The dorm beds are spacious and large, and the pod dorms are literally like your own “single person room”. They are large enough for you to stand and each have their own locker storage inside, with a bed side stand feel to it, updated outlets including usbc and a connect, plus additional storage and many coat hooks inside each pod. Thank you for making Bogota feel like home! I’ll definitely back!

I got a private room here in my trip to Bogota. This hostel is super clean, gets some amazing mates from around the world, the staff is fluent in English and helps you in every way possible, has a killer breakfast menu (starting the day becomes so easy), and is well in the middle of everything in the La Candelaria neighborhood. The ping pong table turned out to be a blessing as well. Highly recommend.
