This is a place with history, built in the art deco era, across from what used to be the old headquarters of paramount pictures. It was once used as dressing and changing rooms for actors. So the floorplans and smells and cozy intimacy hearken back to an earlier time, of the early 1920s.
When you come in through the front door, a narrow staircase leads you up to the frnt desk - where the ceiling is low and the crown moulding is new, but in a style almost 100 years back in time. This area used to be a private dining room, but was converted into the main lobby. Prior to this the main entrance was where the outside patio now is.
Our room, 205, on the second floor and center of the hallway, was not only blissfully quiet but we slept in sweet paradise with our soft microfiber sheets, luxurious down comforter, down pillows, and pillow top bed. The dark hardwood flooring, the adjustable mood lighting, and tasteful asian inspired decor all added to our comfort and ease. The size of the room did not seem a factor. The bathroom, albeit quite small, had a wonderful shower with fantastic shower head, water pressure, and Philosophy products.
I loved the lounge and bar downstairs, it felt like a friend's inviting living room, especially with the fireplace, piano, and high backed leather chairs. And yes, the service here is outstanding and everyone makes you feel so welcome and at home. Not to mention just ordering something as simple as a bowl of fruit ($4) will give you a full meal with raspberries, bananas, strawberries, blackberries, bananas, blue berries, and tangerine. It's the little things, its the complimentary mini chocolate croissants, the fresh cut bouquets of orchids and pink roses on the tables, and the charmingly sweet and endearing bartender Monica.
I am a true fan of this place, and as a guest enjoy the fact that I can have a free cocktail and appetizer during happy hour here. I will definitely return!
