The Criterion Hotel Motel

Very interesting building. The food in the pub downstairs was top tier, and it had a very nice atmosphere. They were playing great music at the perfect volume. The rooms were decent. A bit dated, and could hear people quite loud in the corridor outside, but it was comfy enough, and worth the value

Really pretty place… Lovely staff and really great entertainment… Food was great, although I did order a medium well steak that came medium rare… but it was a lovely steak and I really enjoyed it rarer than I normally would! Maybe I’ve been converted… My partners pork ribs were really nice and huge!!! For the first time ever he was unable to finish what was on his plate… Our only complaint was the drink prices. A can of Jack Daniel’s and cola was $17.50!!! so staying after dinner for a few drinks was way past our budget and we left earlier than we would have liked to.

Very ordinary pub grub however, we didn't try the steak. Beautiful exterior. Big,open barn like dining area, decked out in sporting and cowboy memorabilia. Not unpleasant and what you might expect in cattle country

Had lunch here. Great atmosphere, good service, very nice location. Generous portions (enough for my supper as well). Lovely old pub with well integrated additions. Live music advertised three nights a week. I'll check that out.

This is a wonderful historical hotel to stay at; it dates back to the late 1880s. They have kept it as original as possible and at the same time provide modern conveniences. I stayed at in a 1-3 person spacious room on the second floor; the rooms are on the second and third floors. There is no elevator. The restaurant and bar located on the ground floor of the hotel that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Taxi service is available from the airport and train station to the hotel. There is a coin-operated laundry and dryer room available. The staff are friendly and very helpful. A great place to eat is down the block from the hotel, The Riverston Tea Rooms. They bake and cook all their meals, pastries (i.e. awesome scones, cakes), sandwiches; and offer a nice selection of coffee, tea and other beverages. They are located in the former Queensland National Bank built in 1880; so you get to enjoy a historical setting by the Fitzroy River. The hotel is centrally located with in Rockhampton.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Best Steak in Rockhampton Hands down the best steak I’ve had in Rockhampton. Honestly, maybe the best steak I’ve had anywhere. It was perfectly cooked, juicy, tender and packed with flavour. I couldn’t stop eating it and low-key considered ordering a second one. The sides were just as good. Everything came out hot, fast and tasting amazing. The staff were super friendly and the whole place had a great atmosphere. For the quality of the food, the price is honestly a steal. If you’re in Rocky and not eating at The Criterion Hotel, you’re missing out. Absolute bang for your buck. I’d happily come back just for that steak.

Stayed here for one night on a deal. Rooms are pretty old and that was fine by us. There was a door to a shared balcony over the river which was nice. No bathroom in the room (yes shower and sink) but there is one down the hall. Everyone we talked to was very nice and even let us keep our bags there for a few hours after we checked out. Would sleep here again.

My server Kim was amazing very happy and offered me grate service. My meal was disgusting the pork ribs was some of the worst I've ever had. Good place to go for a beer but definitely not food.

Day 5 of my Aussie Road Trippin' adventure took me to Rockhampton, smack-bang in the middle of Beef Week, a 3 yearly event to celebrate everything beef. Hungry and keen to get in on the action, I acted on the recommendation of a local friend and visited the Criterion. Well kept, welcoming and full of interesting memorabilia, the Criterion failed to disappoint. Sure, I was spoiled for entertainment during Beef Week, but I am certain from the reviews of locals that this is a great spot for a hearty meal and a frosty beverage at any time. Despite the mad rush, my juicy, tender rump was presented to me in a timely manner, and my glass of Kilkenny was delicious to boot. The meal sizes are extremely generous, so I advise visiting on an empty stomach. The "Cri" is an excellent choice for an authentic Aussie meal, in the heart of Australia's beef growing region. Treat yourself to a prime rump or sizzling sirloin, and you won't be disappointed.

Three out of five stars! The Cri is located right on the river and has a bar with slightly better than pub style meals. It seems to be in a pretty good area and there is plenty of street parking. It was also stumbling home distance from my hotel in Rocky, which was a nice bonus. I had the smaller rump, which came with a choice of chips & salad or potatoes & vegies (I had the chips, naturally). It was $25 and it was not what I would call a small meal but it was very tasty and satisfying. There were quite a lot of steaks on the menu but there was still plenty of non-steak options. I thought while I was in the beef capital of Australia, I should probably have the steak, though. Overall, a great choice if you after a place to have a beer or a nice meal. I will be coming back here next time I am in Rocky. Cheers.

Shocking. I ordered a 400gm steak cooked blue and I received 2 small thin steaks cooked well done. Place is terrible. Watery gravy. Terrible quality steak

Amazing western looking saloon restaurant. i had the their Criterion ships and yes they were delicious. i also order the New York cut stake and it was well prepare. i am going back tonight for something different. i will keep you posted.

stopping over on our way to Brisbane excellent cold beer great smelling food ordered a salad and pizza. i would recommend this place is nice and on the river

Well after a 30min wait for cold steak and lamb shanks that were bone dry a little disappointing

Enjoyed a very enjoyable and light lunch. I had an open keppel burger and it filled the spot. The venue has a very light and open feel. You could very easily settle in and turn lunch into dinner. The menu had a variety of choices and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend to everyone.

the steak was completely burned and full of ash. I had one bite and my mouth was full of bitter taste. After I asked to get a new one, first the cook and then the manager confronted me that its how they always do it. After I asked for a refund they told me I don't get any and left. No service and disgusting food.
