I can't speak highly enough about the staff at Mia Rose Restaurant and Terry at the bar from the Criterion Hotel! From the moment we walked in, they were extremely friendly, welcoming, and went out of their way to make our experience unforgettable. The pizza recommendations were spot on, and the service was second to none—attentive, yet relaxed. The food was absolutely delicious, and it’s clear these two know how to make guests feel special. We were just passing through from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance, but thanks to Mia Rose and Terry, we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town! Highly recommend!

Pulled in for a counter meal at the Criterion Hotel in Sale. A majestic hotel built in the 1880s, it has been beautifully restored and decorated. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was also delicious. Heard others complimenting the staff with regards to their meals as well. Worth a visit!

My husband and I eat out regularly and this Hotel is by far the best we have been to. Starting with the beautifully renovated old world charm the minute you enter the hotel it is welcoming, warm and the level of service is outstanding. The food was priced well, and the presentation of the food was done with elegance, pride and tasted delicious.

Excellent meal at the Criterion Hotel in Sale. Recommend! Good entrees, and the prawn/chorizo pasta and seafood Jambalaya mains were tasty and full of chunky seafood and really excellent. Efficient service, lovely waitress, old style ambiance, and muted music that meant you could actually hold a conversation. You pay standard mid-high prices, but worth every bite. Decent wine choices too. Wish this was my local.

A great country pub although having said that, the food is not a country pub. It's modern, varied and very very tasty. Lovely selection of local wines and just a great feel to it. Big fan.

Very pricey for what you get. Trio of dips had crust on it from being prepared a while ago. Chicken Parma had too much breadcrumbs and was smothered in a not so tasty tinned tomato sauce which I scrapped into a pile on the side. Steak was $49.00 to $88.00 a serve. The $49 serve was average. Staff very attentive and friendly. Our visit Feb 2025-only go back with a change of chef.

Awesome little country pub. Very nice inside, it felt more like a restaurant you'd find in the city, not the local Aussie pub I was expecting. $78 for 2 Parmas and 2 cokes, bit steep price wise but the parmas were very decent and filled myself and my teenage son up. Will be back if given the opportunity.

Yelp
Won't be back. Chicken Parma was so thick and tasteless meat. Very disappointing considering all the raves about eating local produce. The arancini balls are delicious. The Romano dip with bagels wasn't our thing, It was spicy and watery. The gnocchi wasn't fluffy enough but the burnt butter sauce was delicious. The staff were lovely especially our waiter Poppy

Yelp
We stayed here on a Friday night and the place was packed with people enjoying dinner, drinks, and live music. We booked a table for 730pm and had dinner served quickly and we both really enjoyed our food. The Fishermans catch was fresh, beer battered fish with items to build a fish taco. It was really delicious. The parmy was also really good, too big to finish. After dinner, we played a game of pool and then headed upstairs. We went back downstairs at 1130pm and it was all locked up and everyone was gone. I couldn't believe it changed so quickly. I felt like I was in the real Hotel California from the song. It had a strange feeling how it could be so loud and full an hour or so earlier and then shutdown completely so early. Anyway, we couldn't hear any noise in our room the entire night. I wish my apartment was like this. I recommend staying or dining here when visiting Sale.

Yelp
Started with the crispy squid with some beer battered chips; Was crispy for sure but bland and tasted of week old oil. Chips nothing special barely cooked and not seasoned adequately. Mains of Chargrilled Kangaroo and lemon-grass and ginger pork. Only the meats were palatable out of the mains. Dessert was cheesecake mess but there was no cheese cake just a berry coulis tart. Spent 130 dollars at this establishment for food on par with a chain restaurant in Melbourne
