I was looking forward to staying at the Crockett, but unfortunately had a disappointing experience with some of the service aspects of the stay. I'm fairly relaxed when it comes to hotel accommodations, and don't enjoy having to leave a low review. However I feel obligated to share with others.
Internet -- The hotel advertises high speed wireless internet. This isn't the case. I was working from the hotel room much of the week and wasn't regularly able to get even 1Mbps, and ended up having to tether my laptop to my phone and use cell data. The TVs were equipped with cable boxes allowing Netflix login (which was nice), but this too often buffered and slowed to a halt. Wired internet wasn't available as an alternative.
Privacy -- My room turned out to be missing both a "do not disturb" sign (I figured they might just not offer them) and a laundry service bag (which caused a bunch of turmoil, described later). Because I was staying for about a week, I was told that I would have to request any room cleaning services. This was fine since I didn't plan on requesting any cleaning. The crew ended up attempting to come into my room multiple times throughout the week while I was there, despite saying directly that I didn't need service, and the lock being engaged each time. I also had someone bang on my door, saying that the room was listed as vacant on their chart and was scheduled for maintenance. They did apologize, but it was frustrating to have to again interrupt a work meeting. They ended up doing some fairly loud work on an adjacent room throughout the day.
Communication -- I'd been traveling with a small wardrobe on an extended trip, planning to use laundry service at various hotels. This was advertised on the Crockett website, and I'd also confirmed by phone. After not seeing any information in my room about the service, and needing to get laundry done the next day, I spent a very frustrating evening being bounced around from email to the front desk getting mixed information about whether the service existed; I was told by the attendant that it didn't, but also via email that it definitely did. I had to insist on a supervisor being called (the person at the front desk "didn't want to have to bother them.") After calling, it turned out that a laundry form and bag were missing from my room. The staff wasn't able get one from another room, and couldn't find any extras in a casual search of some drawers. After resigning at 11pm to go to bed, I communicated via email correspondence, and personally with the front desk, that I would appreciate an email with any further information, and that I would check it first thing next morning. I was awoken at nearly 1am with banging on my door by someone set on hand-delivering a paper laundry form. I didn't ever hear back via the email conversation, though I did get a call at the end of the next day from yet another person at the front desk asking if I'd inquired about laundry. The confusion and clear lack of inter-staff communication was frustrating and time-consuming.
Otherwise, overall, the building was neat. I liked the interior "courtyard" style of the lobby that some of the rooms looked out into. There was a bar downstairs with live music in the evenings, and a cafe available for breakfast purchases in the morning. The location was very nice, right behind the Alamo and within walking distance of the River Walk and nearby mall. The rooms were a little dated, but seemed to be clean and were reasonably furnished.
In all though, I won't be recommending this hotel to family or friends.
