My husband and I were very happy during our 3 night stay at the Cross. Joe and Sarah were welcoming hosts with a clear passion and knowledge for their craft. Immensely charming atmosphere with very comfortable rooms. Our dining experiences were second to none and have left us with wonderful memories of food, friends, and fun we will always cherish. We'll make a special point of revisiting the Cross during our next trip to Scotland.

Went for a nice midweek dinner at a personally recommended local restaurant. We are reasonably new to the area, and what with lockdowns and kids, haven't had a night out for a good meal in a while. I am so glad we had dinner at The Cross. New ownership meant that we were there on re-opening night. Party of four, and we were taken care of beautifully. We had the three course menu (and will be back for the 6-course tasting menu). Exquisitely cooked lamb (me) and venison (in-laws), excellent wine selections and fine coffee to finish. The service was excellent and we didn't feel rushed at all. It was nice to take a moment to enjoy a really good dinner. Looked like a good selection of malts too - sadly I was driving so they'll have to wait for another time, but we'll be back soon.

Came here for our anniversary dinner. The family running this place were so nice. Nice and cozy environment with the fireplace and art. Food and drinks were absolutely perfect. The chef does amazing work. We booked ahead and they adjusted the menu for some strict dietary restrictions. Everything was prepared with expertise. Would definitely visit here again!

We were here on a private Scotland round trip in June 2015 - and we loved the place. It seems to be a family run hotel, and we found it to be very charming and ambitious. It's set a bit off the main road, amidst trees and a creek running down right behind the house. Lovely setting. Our room was spacious and clean and decorated with taste, perfectly sized. The window looks right down to the creek, which was beautiful and relaxing. Of course, the main attraction here is the restaurant. We had dinner on two nights, and were very pleased. I think the place absolutely lives up to its reputation. All in all I'd give it four honest stars.

This was a lovely place to stay. The building was beautiful and full of so many interesting oranemts, art and furniture. Our room as spotless and we were provided with everything you could imagine needing. Breakfast was soo good, although I opted for a cooked breakfast, there were loads of cereal, fresh fruit salad and other bits. We were given a selection of freshly baked pastries and the freshly squeezed orange juice was perfect. Joe was a lovely and intriguing man with such a calm energy, someone I could have talked to for ages. I would certainly stay again.

This is an excellent, small hotel and restaurant. The building is unassuming on the outside, but beautifully decorated on the inside, with a lovely restaurant and lounge on the ground floor and a residents' lounge and bedrooms above. Food is of the highest standard, and those with special dietary requirements are catered for with ease - in my case the chef had produced a special gluten- and dairy-free menu - so I didn't feel I missed out on any of the experience. The service was excellent and had that personal touch of a top-notch small hotel. The rooms are a good size and well-equipped, as are the bathrooms. Those overlooking the river are particularly recommended, and the sound of the water makes for a good night's rest.

OUR ELOPEMENT DINNER AND STAY After deciding that we were going to get married at Loch Morlich in the beautiful Cairngorms, the hunt was on for somewhere to stay, and somewhere to host a dinner. We definitely hit the jackpot with The Cross! We stumbled across The Cross via an internet search, when searching for the best restaurants in the area. We were excited by the look of the food, but also because they had rooms - the potential to kill two birds with one stone! After reaching out to Joe and Sarah we were able to hire the whole venue for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included (the second night being our elopement dinner). As they have the ability to cater for 20 covers across a typical sitting (by my understanding), and we had 19, it was going to be quite a push to get the food out at the same time (We didn't need to worry - it went very smoothly). To help, for our elopement dinner evening, Joe suggested that we agree a set menu, and get everyone's choices in advance. This worked perfectly. Joe provided a menu with three dishes for each of the courses, which could cater for a variety of dietary requirements. We then responded with a spreadsheet with guest names, room requirements, and food/drink choices. Joe was even able to source some really good non-alcoholic prosecco so that everyone was catered for. We visited the venue a few days before our stay, just to meet Joe and Sarah, and scope out the space available. We were able to discuss the table arrangements and finalise a few things. Upon our arrival, everyone was shown to their various rooms. These rooms are lovely! They are clean, comfortable, and don't feel clinical like a hotel, but more like a really nice family home. Joe and Sarah were such wonderful hosts, and everyone enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners. The service was relaxed and friendly, rather than the overly stuffy that you can get at some high-end restaurants. The food itself, is really very good indeed. It treads the boundary of being homely and familiar, yet sophisticated and memorable so very well. The locally sourced ingredients are top notch! For our special dinner, the team even moved a grand piano to make the space work better for our seating arrangement. No mean feat - we are very grateful for the efforts! As a value proposition, for our mini elopement-style wedding, with dinner and accommodation for our families, we were very impressed. We don't feel we were over charged, as some venues try when they hear the word wedding. The price was very transparent and fair. We even left a good tip, because we thought it was such good value! Thank you Joe, Sarah, and staff at The Cross for making our wedding day memorable and relaxing! We will definitely visit again when we pass through the area.

Beautiful restaurant, welcoming staff and impeccable service. dining at the cross felt like visiting family. The Post-lockdown hospitality we received was fully appreciated. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing, exquisitely cooked and prepared local meats , not only the meat and fish, but vegetables also were cooked and served to perfection. The knowledge of wine by the staf was impressive and each course was accompanied by a carefully chosen wine from regions around the world. Small touches like home-made bread and perfectly prepared appetizers complemented the meal. Finishing the meal with a local whiskey was a perfect end to the experience. Absolutely the finest restaurant in the Spey Valley.

Yelp
I have been going here since it opened, before you were born. A few years ago it changed hands, though one chef remained. The new owners are just as determined to keep the standards up to the highest level. It has always been a memorable place to dine and or stay. The internal layout is reassuring, spacious and the food and wines are always exceptional, though I think a little too many French wines of late are on the list. They pay attention to what you want out of the evening and are always welcoming. The food is some of the best in Scotland, as we again proved last week. Well balanced menus, local produce, good flavours and paced well. It is not expensive compared to other fine dining places we have dined in the area. Thoroughly recommended. Make the trip or detour.

Yelp
This is my favorite hotel in Scotland, bar none. But it is really a restaurant with rooms and if you go, go because you want the best food in Scotland and you'll be satisfied with sleeping in a very pleasant but unremarkable room. The television reception isn't good and there really isn't much to do in Kingussie, but everything else is perfect. David and Katie are incredibly good hosts and I can't recommend The Cross highly enough. This is a place to go when you want to escape your normal world for one or two nights of culinary heaven.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant with rooms near the Cairngorms - definitely a worthwhile stay. The prix fix meal was good, but almost every dish was overly salted, same for the breakfast. Rooms are adorable. Owners are efficient but not overly friendly. I'd go again, as it was very good, but I've had better experiences in Scotland.
