Crown and Castle (Orford, Suffolk) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It is thought that the original 12C inn which stood on this site was built into the walls of Orford Castle. The latest incarnation, a Tudor-style house, is run in a pleasantly laid-back manner. Most bedrooms are in chalets and many have terraces and distant sea views. The bistro offers seasonal fare." - Tablet Hotels

My wife and I booked two rooms at the Crown and Castle, for a short break with my son and his girlfriend last summer (sorry, I'm a bit late with the review)|The hotel is charmingly situated right next to Orford castle, in the centre of the picturesque village, and a short walk from the harbour. |We booked a deluxe village and superior sea view rooms. Our room, the deluxe village room, was very spacious, beautifully furnished in light colours, and had a great view of the village square and church in one direction and the castle in the other. My sons room was equally good and, as the description said, had a great view of the river estuary out to sea. |We had booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis, so we had a chance to sample the food in the restaurant. Our meals were excellent. A lovely dinner menu to choose from and an equally good selection at breakfast (full English for me!).||All in all, we had a great short break at this delightful hotel and will definitely return. Great location, friendly service, good food. Highly recommended.

Well appointed room, overlooking the village square. Idyllic location, within easy walking distance of the harbour. Lovely walks along the banks and local footpaths through the countryside. Always a welcome back from hotel staff on return at the end of the day, and an excellent meal to round off the day in style!

We have just returned home after a two night stay here. It was our first visit and we will definitely return! Nothing was too much trouble for the team there and they made our stay extra special! Lovely room with outside seating area. Delicious dinners and the breakfast was super special. Lovely village with lots to see and do locally. Unreservedly recommend this delightful hotel and its friendly, helpful staff.

We stayed at this hotel in the lovely coastal village of Orford. The hotel was so good, staff very pleasant and professional, bedroom in the Garden room area so satisfactory. The food for dinner was amazing, lovely smallish menu . The staff treated us so well, especially as it was our wedding anniversary. Well done all, very impressed and we definitely will be returning.

The mattress was shocking, dreadful; Must be 20 years past its use by date. The bathroom was dated, new shower and taps needed. The room smelled of dog (fair enough because it was a dog friendly room) but they had tried to disguise the smell with strong chemically air freshener which I found stuck in the throat, and was somewhat sickly. Breakfast was fine. Location is great, but overall, I was expecting better for the price.

This small hotel is perfectly placed to visit Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Snape maltings, Woodbridge and Southwold. Orford is a traditional English village, with many lovely walks to explore. Orford Ness and the waterways leading out to the North Sea can be seen from the upper floor of the hotel. It's just a short walk to the quay. The hotel has contemporary stylish rooms, a restaurant which serves a great breakfast and dinner with a fine dining aspect. The staff lead by John the manager are very efficient and friendly. Everything you need for a short break away.

Our garden room had plenty of space and comfortable bed, with direct access to a little verandah with table and chairs. A friendly welcome with a Pimm’s, then excellent dinner, followed by a stroll round Orford. Breakfast offered plenty of choice. We enjoyed our dinner, bed and breakfast stay.

It’s always such a pleasure to stay. Staff are always welcoming and a delight. Enjoyable evening meal and a good nights sleep. I did struggle to find something on the menu that I really liked the sound of. I chose the cannon of lamb and it was lovely. But I totally understand that a smaller menu means you know it is all fresh.
