Have just had a really lovely stay here. The Crown is a very attractive building in an elegant square, and just a very short walk down to the harbour. Our bedroom was very spacious and stylish. It was great to have the comfortable residents' lounge to relax in over tea. We had a really delicious dinner, and breakfast was very good too. The staff were all charming and attentive. Would definitely recommend, and we hope very much to return.

We had a big group and popped in for quite a few drinks over our 3 days there. It's so warm and has a very homey atmosphere in the bar area. The service was brilliant. The barman while we were there (David - I think..... young, amazing curls, funny as) was so impressive. Always attentive and polite, pleasant, etc. Even in the face of an incredibly rude customer, he smiled, did his job and was incredibly professional.

From the moment we arrived at The Crown Hotel, Wells-next-the-Sea, we were impressed. A friendly member of staff even greeted us in the car park, setting a hospitable tone for our stay. Despite a busy afternoon, the team went out of their way to accommodate us for cream tea, which was beautifully presented with fresh, high-quality treats and served in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere. Our overnight stay was equally delightful. The room was comfortable, spotless, and thoughtfully equipped, making it a perfect base to explore Wells and the surrounding coast. The service throughout—from check-in to breakfast—was attentive and genuinely friendly, showing that the staff care about creating a memorable experience. The Crown Hotel delivers on charm, comfort, and excellent hospitality. Thank you!

I organised a reunion of old friends from all over the country, to take 6 bedrooms for the weekend. We couldn't fault have been more impressed.|Chris Coubrough's staff were great without exception. He runs a truly welcoming hotel, lovely relaxed bars and exceptional food, a great dining experience.|It is a special place to which we will certainly be returning.

From start to finish, our one night stay at The Crown was first class. Staff were unfailingly friendly. The room (no 10) was extremely comfortable and well furnished with a spacious bathroom. Dinner was outstanding, delicious food matched by professional and unhurried service. The cream tea on arrival and breakfast before we left were equally good. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough - we’ll be back!

Top quality, friendly home from home hotel. Great atmosphere; inviting bar with comfy sofas and excellent bar snacks or restaurant food. Lovely terraces in summer or open fire in winter. Dog friendly bedrooms - copper bath rooms also have private terraces. Interesting guests who invariably vow to return. Perfect location with a short stroll into the town or down to the beach. You won’t be disappointed

I always felt like this was THE place to stay in Wells but the service for this trip has been appalling. To even make a booking felt like hard work. We have a dog so needed to call to make a booking. That took three calls and two voicemails before someone called us back. We didn’t receive an email confirmation but I hadn’t realised until we got there and I was looking for the check in time. That’s when I felt this was about to go wrong. On checking in there is no booking for us. Luckily there was a room for us and the lady checking us in said we’d been booked in for Monday, the day we were due to leave. We wanted to book a table for dinner so we called reception, no answer. I left that phone ringing for two solid minutes before it timed out. We ended up walking to reception to make the booking. No biggie but seriously who is ever answering these phones!!! At breakfast there is no-one around to seat you so you pick your own seat. When leaving, we left our key at ‘reception’ and had been left an hour or so and are in the car travelling home and we get a call, “You’ve left without paying your room balance”, like we’re some kind of thieves doing a midnight flit. I told her (Harley) that we’d paid in full on card at the time of booking. Her response should’ve been “I’m so sorry can you check what you were charged and call me back when it’s convenient as our records show a balance”. Instead we got “I’m just doing my job and you’ve left without paying a balance”. We were when we booked that the full charge was taken and as I didn’t get a confirmation I couldn’t check that (or the check in date). Yep, probably should’ve checked my credit card statement but I didn’t, still no excuse for the bad attitude, that I note has been called out from Harley on several other reviews. It’s a shame that this place seems not to care about service now, Wells is so busy they don’t need to bother about service, people will always go. We won’t stay at The Crown again.

Amazing food, wine and whole experience. Big thank you to Oscar the barman who entertained us from afternoon drinks which made us want to come back for an exquisite meal. Lovely staff, incredible food and then a wonderful night cap again with Oscar who made delicious espresso martini. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Yelp
Came for dinner with a group. Food was decent and restaurant has several areas to eat in. We had roast lamb, which was tasty and a variety of other dishes. The menu was structured so you could choose one, two or three courses. Most of us had 2 courses. There is a full bar as part of the hotel. Location is central to the buttlands which is main village square area.

Yelp
My husband Andrew and I traveled to England for a wedding 6/22. We were also celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary on 6/23. Andrew arranged a one night stay for us here at The Crown...wow I wish it was a few more nights! He had contacted the hotel in advance in order to set up some special surprises for our anniversary. Kelly was the one who assisted him. We both worked in the hospitality industry and were extremely impressed by our entire experience. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff. They offered us homemade lemonade while we checked in. They escorted us upstairs to our room (#10 I think it was). We walked in and I was floored...they had arranged red and white long stemmed roses, paper hearts strew across the wall above the bed and the desk (paper for 1 year wedding anniversary! This was Kelly's idea when my husband called). There were fresh chocolates on a platter from a local chocolate maker that read "Happy Anniversary" and the lady who walked us to our room told us the champagne was on its way up! Also that we had dinner reservations at the restaurant and we could place our breakfast in bed order that evening as well. This was SO amazing. My husband did call ahead to arrange this but Kelly executed it flawlessly and we felt like a King and Queen! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I had slept on in over 10 days and the room was fabulous. I couldn't have asked for more! The restaurant was also wonderful. The service was great and the food was amazing. The Crown is a perfect place for a romantic stay in a cozy town by the sea. Thank you Kelly and staff!!!

Yelp
Had a lovely high tea here today with some friends. We found it reasonably priced, the service was great, nice ambience and the food was yummy. Minus one star only for the lack of parking.
