The Crown Hotel

We had a wonderful stay at The Crown, our first time on the Norfolk coast. The location is just enough in town to be convenient, but set back enough to be relatively quiet and private. We came by car and the on-site car park was a big plus in this busy town. Nice though that it's hidden within the old garden walls. The website pictures under-represent how cozy and charming the hotel is and how many different spaces are available to guests on the ground floor. We especially loved the library-like feel of the dining rooms and the wealth of old documents and artifacts that grace the walls in general. It was always easy to find a staff member, and everyone was helpful. The delicious breakfast (lots of options) included with the room adds great value. Worth the price!

We went there for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. There were some great options on the menu including catch of the day, local oysters as well as veggie plates. The setting is excellent for a romantic dinner and the staff were very attentive.

Stayed at this hotel for a week during June 2025 for the first time.Great location in Wells Norfolk.The staff were excellent, could not be more friendly and helpful. The food was very good great cooked breakfast and evening meals were excellent, good choice on the menu. Our room was a bit small,but still very good.The atmosphere and furnishings were very good. If you want somewhere to stay in North Norfolk, the Crown in Wells will not let you down.

We have stayed here for years for weekends and were loyal customers. But we've been really disappointed with the way the Crown deal with cancellations which are not at short notice. Their Ts and Cs say 'For more information on the cancellation policy that applies to the rate that you have booked, please refer to your confirmation email.' My confirmation email mentioned nothing about an admin charge which applied more than 48 hours in advance. The online Ts and Cs also talk about being able to put a cancellation fee towards a new booking but we weren't given this option. Having seen how our query was dealt with, we feel completely unvalued as loyal customers and will stay and eat elsewhere from now on.

First time to eat at The Crown Hotel and it exceeded expectations ! |The starters of prawn and crayfish cocktail and a ham hock terrine served with warm fresh bread rolls were delicious. A Sunday roast beef and haddock goujons followed, the portions were generous and all was freshly cooked. The staff were friendly and efficient and the cost good value for an establishment such as this in North Norfolk ! Great job Chris !

Mums 90th birthday |The crown did an excellent job for us hosting mums 90th birthday celebrations, food was amazing and staff were excellent , very helpful and friendly , thankyou nothing was too much trouble for them either , there were 27 of us , Excellent

We spent Christmas here. The room was perfect The service was exceptional, friendly and happy staff. They made our stay. The food was okay Overall we had a great time

A lovely restaurant. Cosy and welcoming. Great and efficient staff. I had the crab salad which was both plentiful and delicious. Lots of choices for lunch. Can highly recommend. The hotel is large but nevertheless still maintaining good ambience.

Came for dinner with a group. Food was decent and restaurant has several areas to eat in. We had roast lamb, which was tasty and a variety of other dishes. The menu was structured so you could choose one, two or three courses. Most of us had 2 courses. There is a full bar as part of the hotel. Location is central to the buttlands which is main village square area.

My husband Andrew and I traveled to England for a wedding 6/22. We were also celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary on 6/23. Andrew arranged a one night stay for us here at The Crown...wow I wish it was a few more nights! He had contacted the hotel in advance in order to set up some special surprises for our anniversary. Kelly was the one who assisted him. We both worked in the hospitality industry and were extremely impressed by our entire experience. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff. They offered us homemade lemonade while we checked in. They escorted us upstairs to our room (#10 I think it was). We walked in and I was floored...they had arranged red and white long stemmed roses, paper hearts strew across the wall above the bed and the desk (paper for 1 year wedding anniversary! This was Kelly's idea when my husband called). There were fresh chocolates on a platter from a local chocolate maker that read "Happy Anniversary" and the lady who walked us to our room told us the champagne was on its way up! Also that we had dinner reservations at the restaurant and we could place our breakfast in bed order that evening as well. This was SO amazing. My husband did call ahead to arrange this but Kelly executed it flawlessly and we felt like a King and Queen! The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I had slept on in over 10 days and the room was fabulous. I couldn't have asked for more! The restaurant was also wonderful. The service was great and the food was amazing. The Crown is a perfect place for a romantic stay in a cozy town by the sea. Thank you Kelly and staff!!!

Had a lovely high tea here today with some friends. We found it reasonably priced, the service was great, nice ambience and the food was yummy. Minus one star only for the lack of parking.
