Where to Try New England's Most Famous Bread Traditions

"This Concord bakery still makes the Shaker raised squash bread recipe under the name Shaker Squash Rolls, especially around Thanksgiving; the rolls are soft, rich yeasted breads whose yellow hue and slight sweetness come from pureed squash, tying them to the Indigenous Three Sisters agricultural tradition." - Adam H. Callaghan

I’m so happy with the custom cake I ordered for my husbands birthday! We don’t like buttercream frosting so my solution was to ask for chocolate ganache on the outside and for Nutella on the inside. Absolutely divine and it was a hit with all of our guests! It was the perfect amount of chocolate without being too rich or sweet. The Nutella flavor was a bit subtle but my SIL said she preferred it that way as it otherwise it could be too strong (and I agree). Just simple chocolate goodness! 😋 It disappeared really fast. I will be ordering this cake again for my own birthday! 😂❤️ Also, I called on a Wednesday for the party that was happening on that Friday and they were able to make this cake in time which I appreciated. They followed all my requests for the design as well. Really happy with the experience!

I can't say enough good things about Crust and Crumb Baking Co.! Their pastries are absolutely phenomenal—beautifully crafted, and incredibly tasty. Over the years, I've enjoyed countless desserts and birthday cakes from them, and they have never let me down. The variety they offer is impressive, with something for everyone. Whether you're looking for classic treats or something to suit specific dietary needs, Crust and Crumb has you covered with their vegan and gluten-free options. As a local business in Concord, they truly deserve our support. If you haven't yet visited Crust and Crumb, I highly recommend you do. You won't be disappointed!

Google
I stopped in and enjoyed some of the baked goods this morning. They bake everything in house with a wide selection of pastries bars cakes cookies and more. Quality coffee and beverages are available, and there is indoor seating. Clean restroom provided. Some other foods are available, and staff is very helpful. Parking is on the street. Delicious treats.

Google
I came to Crust and Crumb with an odd request, I wanted a spooktacular birthday cake for my 150 year old haunted house. They more than delivered with a gorgeous lemon-blueberry cake that was the talk of the entire party. Creative, beautiful, hilarious and delicious! Highly suggest them for any party dessert needs.

Google
Ordered a mocha chocolate cake and it was fantastic! Very cute decorations as well. The price was so fair considering the quality of the cake. Will definitely be coming back in the future for any cake needs.

Google
One of my favorite bakeries. My go to for cake specifically. The chocolate mocha is to die for. Great people, price, and availability. Coffee and cookies are great too!

Google
Our cake was delicious and beautifully decorated. There may be some issues with taking cake orders as our pick up time was originally scheduled for after the party, and we ended up getting the wrong flavored cake. It tasted delicious and was still enjoyed, but I was a bit disappointed to cut into a chocolate cake instead of vanilla. I was unsure why they don’t pipe flowers, but glad they were able to make it work.

Google
The Crust and Crumb did an amazing job with a large cookie order we placed for a wedding. They were incredibly accommodating and the cookies were absolutely amazing. They even went so far as to help walk the pretty large order to the car. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Yelp
Bought 2 pies on a Sunday to bring to family get together that afternoon. They were so good and we got lots of comments and questions about where they came from.

Yelp
This place is delicious. The employees are fast paced but friendly. Menu has some standard staples but they rotate some different breads and sewer treats. While a little pricey, it is well worth it. I like to grab a snack to eat as I walk around the beautiful downtown area.

Yelp
I stopped in here as I had not had breakfast. I had a mini egg, cheese and bacon quiche. Which was so delicious and the butter crust was light and flaky. It's small, about the size of my fist but so good. They also have other sweet baked goods as well as pies and cakes.

Yelp
Cute little place! Stopped in for a treat and got Magic bars which were delicious. Nice thick crust with tons of mini chips. Yummy. The little quiches looked great and I'll remember for next time. There were so many! I'll be back!!

Yelp
Amazing apple. Pie ! Just heat it up for .w5 minutes at 375 degrees and enjoy ! Wow !

Yelp
Very tasty treats. Service was fast and a nice little place. Definitely be back again!!

Yelp
Needed a graduation cake on short notice and they delivered beautifully. They are allergen and special diet friendly as well. I had a request for a completely dairy-free cake due to allergy and they accommodated with a delicious cake. Nobody even could tell it was vegan! Prices were fantastic and I would highly recommend.

Deirdre ..

Yelp
The food is amazing and homemade. The cakes are truly special and delicious. The cookies are reasonably priced, all the coffees are handmade without any junk, and they sell local wares from artisans. Truly a gem here in Concord!

Yelp
Shout out to the Hubs for finding this place on our way to New Hampshire. In a rush I had been unable to get some muffins for our breakfast (the hubs loves a muffin on vacation) and luckily when we arrived they still had some left! Not to be out done they also had a wide variety of other treats (I myself picked up a blueberry lemon whoopie pie and a oatmeal raison cookie) as well as it looked like some savory sandwiches as well. Located along the "main drag" of Concord and easy on/off from the interstate it's a must stop whether you are stopping in Concord or your travels are going to take you further north.

Yelp
Great location across from the NH State Capitol, with an upbeat vibe. An eclectic collection of Mixed-media artwork adds to the ambiance of the seating area. There was a nice variety of baked goods. The salted caramel whoopie pie filling with a touch of salt added a unique twist to an old favorite; the chocolate cake was a bit hard because the whoopie pies were in the refrigerated case. The Shortbread cookies are buttery and the crumbly texture melts in your mouth. The flourless peanut butter cookies are chewy and delicious. We haven't yet tried the other cookies that we purchased. The coffee was strong but not bitter.

Yelp
I stopped in after a 9 am appointment. The scent that greeted me was lovely! Like walking into my Nana's while she was baking cookies or pies! Every display case is beautifully filled with baked goods! There are little hand quiches, cookies, Whoopi's pies in imaginative flavors, scones, muffins, and gorgeous cakes!!! I ordered a blueberry scone and a cranberry orange scone. I already had a coffee going or I would have ordered coffee as well. The entire place is well lit, clean, and welcoming. The staff are kind and attentive. There are tables and chairs if you want to stay a while. There was a customer working on a laptop when I stopped in. The parking nearby is on street metered parking. There is a parking app called pay to park which makes it super easy to pay from your car. The scones were good. The blueberry had a bit more decorative sugar on top than I like but that is my preference and I saw it before I ordered and ordered anyway. The scones definitely taste homemade because they are made right there on the premises!! This is where the heavenly scents that greet you when you walk in the door are from! I'll be back!!!

Yelp
Friendly staff and yummy baked goods! We stopped there a couple of months ago for an impromptu birthday cupcake, and they even sold us candles to go with it. I like their "buy someone a treat" option.

Yelp
The most important thing you need to know is get a Whoopie Pie! In fairness, I'm not a local to New England however, this is the best Whoopie Pie I've had in New England. I've now been back thrice and can say that their other items are great as well. When I'm in the area my favorite thing to do for lunch is come here and get a delightful quiche and a Whoopie Pie. Ok fine, in the spirit of honesty, I actually get three additional Whoopie Pies for the road but, that's my business. If I may save you from some heart ache I've experience, they are closed on Monday. Don't show up on Monday.
google avatar

Anita B.

Yelp
On one level I wish I hadn't stopped in here on a break from the state house. I got a scone and it was really delicious, so now I am fearful that this could become a daily habit. I will definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, very good muffins!! Went in on New Years Eve Day looking for Muffins. Felt like no one else had Muffins. So thankful they did and they were delicious!!

Yelp
Perfect spot for delicious baked goods. The pastry case is brimming with whoopie pies, cookies, quiches, focaccia breads, and the like. I tried a roasted vegetable focaccia bread and a salted caramel whoopie pie. Both were better than they looked. I wish I tried a quiche, they looked amazing as well. Get here early to (try to) avoid the line, it was a popular spot on my visit.

Cheryl C.

Yelp
Best scones. Excellent biscotti. Everything looks delicious. I seek out good scones and these are among the best I've ever had.

Ryan P.

Yelp
The perfect little bakery located right on Convord main st. Even from outside you can smell the delicious baked goods and once you walk in your mouth will be watering. Very friendly staff that will help you get what you most want. Make sure you get there early! They even have a pay it forward service at the counter

Yelp
I love the name of this business! It stands out and is intriguing as you're walking around downtown Concord. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and they weren't busy at all. I was impressed with the selection of bakery treats (some that you don't see all of the time like Russian tea balls) and other products like a huge selection of granola. The prices were more than reasonable too which helped as the selection is huge and we came in wanting a coffee and left with two treats and a coffee. For treats, we went with the rum raisin bar which looked like a brownie (minus the chocolate). It was so good. Not heavy at all and the taste was very unique. We also got a plain iced coffee for $3 which turned out to be the best coffee I had all day (after two failures before this bakery) - very smooth and nice. I didn't see any flavors which is a pity. Finally, the star of the visit was a salted caramel oatmeal cream pie. Heavenly. And huge. We couldn't finish and had to save for later. I've never seen one with salted caramel and it was just perfectly done. All this yummy goodness for less than $9 - amazing prices! Definitely stop in and enjoy their selection of treats if you find yourself in downtown Concord.

Yelp
Purchased the lemon raspberry layer cake for a birthday and it was delicious! Everyone raved about it. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
We were waiting for our takeout order from The Barley House and stopped in to Crust and Crumb to search for dessert. We got the Flourless chocolate cake, raspberry crumb bar, oatmeal Whoopi pie, and key lime bar. Hubby loved the chocolate cake the most. I was partial to the raspberry bar and oatmeal Whoopi pie. The ladies at the counter were friendly and courteous. Keep up the good work. We will be back!

Yelp
This is one of my absolute favorite bakeries! Their Honey oat bread and chocolate Whoopie pies are my top favorites. The staff is always extremely friendly the restaurant is very nicely decorated and very warm and comfortable to be in. I would recommend this to anyone
google avatar

Gail H.

Yelp
Come in and sniff around, so good. Large selection of bread, pies and other sweets. Small amount is seating to enjoy your coffee and scone. On street parking across from State House
google avatar

Lilli O.

Yelp
So one thing that I found out about this bakery is that they have a "pay it forward" thing to help people in the community- for example, if I said I wanted to buy a small coffee and pay it forward, they write that down, and if anybody needs help then they can get that coffee; (because I e already paid for it)- not gonna lie, I have used that system myself in the past but just wanted to spread the word if anyone needs it- but yes; their mini quiches and the coffee there is/are delicious and I will be back

Sheila Z.

Yelp
I thought I would give myself a little end of the week treat, so stopped in here. I got a bacon cheese quiche, a Keylime bar, and a loaf of honey oat bread. The quiche was absolutely fantastic - very custardy and a fantastic lunch treat for a very reasonable price. The Keylime bar was really rich and tangy and the honey oat bread loaf was fresh and delicious. So, this is an all-around great bakery - good for a small lunch or snack, a delicious dessert, and bread to take home. Also, the staff was really helpful and helping me choose, as I have a visual impairment, and couldn't really see the loaves of bread, on racks behind the cashier. So,it's disability friendly, too! Will definitely be back.

Lydia G.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee! Yummy cookies. Great customer service. My kids love their mini quiche too!

Yelp
The bread and lime bar here are very good. The cookies aren't bad. The staff was also friendly.

Yelp
After pulling into Concord, I was in need of some coffee. I looked up some places on Yelp, and found this cafe/pastry shop. I navigated over here, finding parking easily. I walked in, and realized this was more a pastry shop than a cafe. They did have both hot and iced coffee, but no espresso options. I opted for an iced coffee with a bit of whole milk. I made a quick pit stop, and noticed that this place is kept clean. I went to pick up my iced coffee and pay. The worker here was very nice, and she directed me on where to go in town. The patrons were also super nice, and we stuck up a brief conversation. The coffee was smooth tasting. I didn't have any pastries, as I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I would recommend this place nonetheless.

Yelp
After lunch in Nashua, I went for a drive. One cannot drive for very long without having a bakery emergency. Oh. Is that just me? Anyway. After consulting Yelp, I came here. Parking was easy enough to find as it was an afternoon, not rush hour. There are a number of shops and eateries along the way as it's close to the government buildings. There's a case of pre-made cakes to one side, the cold case of pastries, shelves of fresh bread, and jars of cookies. It's simultaneously old-fashioned and modern. I got a Shaker Squash bread, which is a round of dinner rolls, delicately sweetened with pumpkin (or, I suppose, any squash available). For dessert, I also got 3 different whoopie pies. The staff were friendly and cheerful, just as bakers should be.
google avatar

Beth B.

Yelp
I loved their flourless chocolate cookies and the flourless peanut butter ones!!!! They did ask that people have their mask on and to cover both their nose and mouth.

Theresa M.

Yelp
Hey y'all: words can't describe how kind and responsive the staff was in preparing a sweet care package for my dear friend whose dad had passed and son was in the hospital. I called early in the morning and Katie and her team put together yummy muffins, cookies, cupcakes and other treats for pick-up that day. I heard that these delicious boxes of goodness made the family feel loved and cared for at a really hard time. Thank you, Crust & Crumble, for making a positive difference in people's lives
google avatar

Amylynne F.

Yelp
Came in on my way up to the whites for some treats. I got a molasses cookie, an oatmeal raisin cookie ($1 each or 3 for $2.50) and an apple tart. The cookies were good. The apple tart was 10 stars. Lol. I'd come back and buy them out of those next time.

Yelp
Had the focaccia bread, the German cake and a cup of coffee. All were high quality and fresh. Appreciated the service and had pleasant experience. Definitely plan to come back here in my next trip to Concord, NH.

Bella H.

Yelp
Every time I come in, I feel very welcomed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They've got a great selection of baked goods. Definitely recommend checking this bakery out :)

Yelp
Conveniently located - reasonable prices - friendly staff - yummy treats. YA CAN'T MISS!!!

Yelp
Emailed to find out if Key Lime Pie was in their repertoire. Although it's not a regular item in their shop, I was assured it could be ordered. I ordered one for Easter Sunday in addition to the Turtle Tart on the menu. We also snagged a loaf of sourdough when we picked up the desserts. EVERYTHING WAS STELLAR!!!! There were 9 of us for Easter dinner and both desserts got rave reviews. The Key Lime pie had a delicious graham cracker crust and was the perfect blend of sweet and sour. The turtle tart was straight up decadence. Crazy good warmed a little with vanilla ice cream. I can't wait to give some other menu items a try. If everything they make is like what we ordered, you can't go wrong!

Yelp
Pulled up in front of this quaint bakery to actually go the restaurant nextdoor. I looked into their window and had to stop in. First let me share that my family owned an Italian Bakery in the Boston area for 54 years. With that said I'm extremely fussy about my bread, pies, and baked goods. We did pretty much all scratch baking so my standards are high. This wonderful bakery did not disappoint. From the fantastic service from an employee who really seemed like he loved his job to the absolute BEST Whoopi Pie I've had in years! Their double chocolate, no flour cookie was also simply amazing as was their scone. When our waitress next door asked if we wanted dessert we gushed how we had already visited the bakery nextdoor and purchased quite a few items. She said her dad was a huge fan of their salted caramel cream cookie pie. She herself loved all their Whoopi pies and that we made a great choice. A must if you're in the area and if you're not, make the drive, it's truly worth it. Oh, don't let me get started on how awesome their artisan breads are.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place. My boyfriend and I make day trips looking for great food and desserts. We drove from an hour away and it was sooo worth it; so much so that I'd gladly make the drive for any occasion. The prices are reasonable- something you rarely see with artisan bakeries anymore. We got the lime bar (deliciously tart and buttery), the salty caramel oatmeal cookie sandwich (salty, sweet, and next level ah-mazing), the almond cookie (perfect texture and toasty nuts), the salty caramel whoopie pie (finally a good chocolate cake!), and the apple tart (just ok, honestly). For the next office birthday, I'm going for a flourless chocolate cake. Please don't change a thing!

Heidi F.

Yelp
We have ordered cakes twice in the past couple months from Crust and Crumb. Alison and her staff are always so accommodating, friendly and helpful with ordering. Today was my granddaughters 1st birthday party, the little smash cake and the larger birthday cake was scrumptious and beautifully decorated with the flowers we brought for decorating...they were super accommodating and our cakes were not only beautiful but delicious as well! Crust and Crumb is our go to bakery for treats, lunch and special occasions

Ana M.

Yelp
Alison was so nice and easy to talk to and was open to any suggestions! She answered all my questions, was super friendly and nice! The cakes turned out to be even better than I expected! She did exactly how I wanted it to be! I ordered 3 cakes and one of them was vegan! Currently I can't have dairy, eggs, soy and nuts and Alison was able to make a cake for me too!!!! Two others were also wonderful! Me and my guested were pleased! Huge thanks!!!

S V.

Yelp
Absolutely love this bakery. I have been many times over the years and everything is always delicious and fresh. We have taken some of the breads to go (the maple pecan is a favorite for baked french toast) and sampled many pastries. The scones are delicious and tender, the muffins are moist with a nice crumb and the bars are fantastic- any of the fruit bars and the leopard bars are favorites as well. Whatever your sweet tooth is craving, get something from the Crust and Crumb and you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Terrasita F.

Yelp
During this tourist trip we strolled around quaint downtown Concord and coffee was meh but the lemon strawberry whoopie pie was a bright, citrusy, summery decadence.

Stefan K.

Yelp
Delicious food and wonderful service! -- We came in with two famished kids, but the staff was very welcoming and patient with our decision process. We enjoyed great quiches, bread, cookies, and cappuccino.
google avatar

Staci Y.

Yelp
Update- we finally had a chance to check out C&C in person when we were in town for the holidays; the whoopie pies are a MUST! We tried the original, salted caramel, chocolate salted caramel, pumpkin & blueberry. (Suggestion- cut them into quarters when serving so you can try all the different flavors!) It's now our go-to stop to pick-up holiday treats before visiting family. (And of course one or two for ourselves!) I'm already drooling for next year's. :)

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this bakery. Crust and Crumb made my husband and I 16 pies for our wedding this past summer. They even took special request pie flavors they don't usually make (so I could offer up all my families favorites). All our guests *loved* it. Every pie was seriously delicious. Also, Alison was perfect I work with- great, prompt communication and reasonable pricing for superb quality. So happy we went with Crust and Crumb for our wedding. Waaaay better than any drab white cake. Thanks for making our wedding celebration so deliciously wonderful :) note: I had the added challenge of planning a wedding in NH from the west coast. C and C made it really easy by being so helpful.

Anna F.

Yelp
Awesome service and great atmosphere! Good place to wake up and read the morning news!

Cris E.

Yelp
Best peanut butter cookie I have ever had! The fresh baked breads are wonderful too.

Julie P.

Yelp
I recently got a cake here for my Mom's 80th birthday. It was a chocolate layer cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. It was a huge hit with everyone and absolutely delicious!! Thank you Crust and Crumb for making my Mom's party complete!

Yelp
The sea salt caramel whoopie pie is to die for! Also the key lime bars are fantastic! The biscotti wasn't great but, who cares. Everything else is amazing!
