Epik high Oakland eats
The Dead Fish

Google
Been meaning to eat here for years heard so many good things about this place. They were all true we decided to eat on the back outside dining area yes they had heat. So cozy with an amazing view Even got the candle light special which they do for special occasions . Prime rib was amazing and red snapper was too. Presentation of the snapper well was best I’ve ever seen. Service was amazing as well. So worth the wait over 10 years however next time I’m not waiting so long to return I drove out from San Jose. If you’re anywhere in the Bay Area you must try this place !!

Google
The Dead Fish delivers an exceptional dining experience. Their crab is outstanding — fresh, perfectly seasoned, and truly memorable. The steak was equally impressive, cooked to perfection and full of flavor. While prices are on the higher side, the generous portions, attentive service, and overall quality make it a worthwhile indulgence. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great seafood and steak.

My husband and I went to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Our waiter, Lak, went above and beyond to make our evening special. From the moment we sat down, he was attentive, professional, and genuinely warm. He made excellent recommendations, ensured everything came out perfectly, and checked on us just the right amount. And he moved us to a table with a beautiful view! It’s rare to come across service that feels both personal and polished, but Lak made us feel celebrated and well cared for. Thank you for helping make our anniversary dinner such a memorable one — we’ll definitely be coming back!

Well shoot, after twelve years some things change for the worse. We revisited for our anniversary dinner 12yrs to the day and the only thing that was the same was the atmosphere. Our waitress was brisk, but the other wait staff were nice. I got the salmon with a lemon caper sauce, vegetables on the side paired with a white wine. My salmon was over cooked, the veggies consisted of potatoes and cauliflower (an odd pairing) the potatoes were so dry and overcooked I left them on the plate, the cauliflower was undercooked so it also got left. The lemon caper sauce you ask? Did it redeem the overcooked salmon? Nope. The only way I knew there was a sauce on the fish was by the three capers that were rolling around on the hot skillet plate my order got served on. Thank goodness for the bread basket or I would have left hungry. Were they busy you ask? Maybe that would excuse the lack of attention to everything? Nope. It was about 6:45pm on a warm Tuesday evening. The waitstaff was attentive where the waitress lacked so at least we had our drinks refreshed even asking if I was cold and would like the heater turned on. It was a balmy 73• and as I am acclimated to the brisk Eurekan coastal temps, it felt like a warm summer evening. We dined (I use that term lightly) on the patio and the view was lovely. All I can say is do better kitchen. A lot of time has passed but with a location like that you should be 5 star dining.

Visited The Dead Fish in Crockett with my family — they’re big seafood lovers (unlike me), so this spot was perfect for them! I ordered the garlic noodles with chicken. They were good, but not the best I’ve ever had. That said, their bread and calamari were both absolutely top-notch, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone was super attentive and kind. I don’t eat seafood, so I can’t speak on that side of the menu, but my family loves this place and always looks forward to it. Heads up — it’s definitely on the pricier side. My husband ordered a steak, and it was $50 for just the steak, potatoes, and some spinach. We couldn’t help but compare it to a Brazilian steakhouse where it’s $80 for all-you-can-eat! 😅 Still, the view is beautiful, the ambiance is great for special occasions, and the desserts were delicious. Worth a visit if you’re treating yourself or celebrating with seafood lovers!

Google
They are pricey but the ingredients match the price. The have a good cioppino and the ingredients are on point. Although it's very similar to a fisherman's stew because the ingredients are not exact. It's very good. With fishing areas right down the street is a great place to eat after a long day on the water. Also there is a great view of the Vallejo Bridge in the back, especially at night i recommended sitting near the window. Westcoast eclectic pier fishing llc. Salty

We were told about The Dead Fish by someone at another restaurant and decided to make the 18 mile drive from Walnut Creek on a work trip and we were all very happy with the decision! The atmosphere, the view, the service, and the food were all amazing! The price may initially give you a shock but the amount and quality of food you receive is definitely worth it!

Great seating at any corner of the place, but we especially love the patio. Our server was really cool, everyone was friendly. Definitely a wonderful place to dine for special occasions.

Yelp
Food was delicious, staff all friendly, and the weather was perfect. Thank you Shazam for taking the time to visit with us.

Yelp
Yesterday was my first time dining at The Dead Fish, and I had a great experience. I'm a serious seafood fan and rarely burn the cash and calories on seafood restaurants in the East Bay. The ambience is really cute, with multiple outdoor seating sections where you can enjoy views of the Carquinez Strait and the bridge. The service was excellent. Our server, Lak, was super responsive and helped me celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, making it very special. We ordered: Crab cakes -- super yummy 2 lbs of crab -- generously served Filet mignon -- cooked to perfection I'd definitely go again and recommend it to anyone passing through the area.

Yelp
Amazing service and even better food! The quality and the amount of food you get is well worth the price. The manager was interacting with everyone at each table, checking on them to make sure they are satisfied with their meals. The environment they've created here feels so welcoming and inviting. I was very satisfied with my meal and my service! Will be coming back again and again!

Yelp
The Dead Fish is one of those restaurants that leaves a lasting impression -- everything from the food to the atmosphere is absolutely top-notch. The moment you walk in, you're greeted with the most beautiful views of the Carquinez Bridge and the bay -- it's the perfect mix of coastal charm and casual elegance. The food is amazing! The crab is always fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection -- rich, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Every dish I've tried here has been full of flavor and beautifully presented. The portions are generous, and you can tell they take real pride in their seafood. The service is consistently warm, attentive, and professional. Even when it's busy (which it often is!), the staff goes out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. It's the kind of place that makes any meal feel special -- perfect for date nights, celebrations, or just treating yourself. Between the delicious food, stunning views, and great energy, The Dead Fish is truly one of the Bay Area's must-visit spots. I can't recommend it enough -- five stars all the way!

Yelp
Very beautiful place. We ate outside and I thought it would be really cold or bugs but it eas actually nice they have good heaters for each table and no bugs. Very cute view of the bridge . Parking can.be bad tho. Bathroom is small but the food is really good and came out so hot! Great date night place .

Yelp
This was a recommendation from a coworker that lived in the area for a really long time, went there for date night and man was an amazing, great food, fantastic views, and friendly and effective service

Yelp
We recently revisited this restaurant after a long time away and noticed a few changes. When my family and I first walked in, the host was a little rude and dismissive towards us, but our server was very nice and attentive. We ended up getting calamari and clam chowder as an appetizer and those were the best of everything we got! For our entrees, we had the branzino and cioppino. Unfortunately, both meals were lacking flavor and were very bland. While the view was amazing, the food didn't leave a lasting impression, so I'd probably come back more for the scenery than the meal.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
There's no doubt their food is top tier. I have a soft spot for cioppino and was not disappointed. It was filled with ample fresh seafood in a slightly tangy tomato based sauce that has to be one of the best I've had. The proportion of seafood was perfect, not too much one type or another. Steamed clams is really a simple dish but The Dead fish's version is complex and garlicky delicious. The service was friendly and responsive. My only complaint? We were ask up front if we would like to start with fresh rolls which is fine but we were not told that many of their dishes came with rolls and did not have to pay for extra rolls up front. We ended up with a bunch of rolls that we didn't eat. Next time? I won't order the rolls but will order one of the grilled plate.

Yelp
Ok, so the 5 stars were earned because of the general manager, Shazam Babb. I had an entree that I didn't like and he listened to me and totally understood. He offered me other options. I was expecting excuses and a fight; but instead I received apologies and efforts to please me. I can't say enough about his exceptional customer service. By the way, my second entree was pretty good and was taken up a notch because I got the paprika butter which complemented well.

Yelp
First time here did not disappoint!! Great service and food! Perfect location with an amazing view. Pretty fancy restaurant but catered well to couples, families, and large parties. The food was delicious and some nice healthy options. I definitely want to come back and bring my family for some fresh seafood and amazing views. You will want to eat outside in the patio on a nice day. We had the perfect view of the bridge and scenery.

Yelp
My husband has mentioned that his coworkers LOVED this place and everything on the menu would be good. He was super excited to try this out because the restaurant itself is near the water and he LOVES seafood. I read the reviews prior to coming here, and I had a feeling that it would be a hit or miss with some items. Granted, I wanted to give his coworkers the benefit of the doubt because I need to try things before I give it a fair review. My husband and I came a couple weekends ago and we did not need a reservation at all. The restaurant itself was pretty busy inside, and they have indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for outdoor seating because it was a nice day and we wanted to overlook the water. They quoted us a 15 minute wait, but we were seated pretty fast. The tables outside were on the smaller side, so I wasn't so sure how everything would fit since most items on the menu are shareable items. However, somehow it worked and it was fine! My husband and I ordered the following: -Red Clam Chowder: unsure, but probably $13-20 -Crab and Spinach Fondue: $24.99 -Seafood Black Linguini: $39.99 -Crab Lasagna: $34.99 -Double Shrimp and Half Crab: $59.99 -Creme brulee cheesecake: probably around $9.99-$12.99 Total spent was over $200+ REVIEW OF EACH ITEM: -Red Clam Chowder: This was their version of a spicy clam chowder and I will say that the flavor of this was good! You didn't get too many clams and the temperature of the soup was not hot (more like lukewarm). I would still recommend trying this since I loved the flavor of this and this can be shared with another person as a light starter. 4/5 -Crab and Spinach Fondue: I did like this, however there were only 2 pieces of crab in the entire fondue. It was 99% spinach and cheese with crostinis. I do wish there was more crab to justify the price. The flavor was good, but I wouldn't recommend getting this because the whole point is to get crab with your fondue, not just two nibbles. 3/5 -Seafood Black Linguini Pasta: This is what my husband got and the flavor of this was good! You get an abundance of seafood with the black linguini pasta. Although he said that he could have done without the pasta, and he recommends just getting the stew by itself. 4/5 -Crab Lasagna: When they reprinted the menu, there was no mention that this would just be shredded crab with angel hair pasta, baked/fried into a dish and cut off for you to enjoy. I was expecting something else and not this. I have to say that I didn't enjoy this as much. It was SUPER oily and not fun to bite into with all the angel hair pasta. I would have thought it was regular lasagna, but with a white sauce twist. I did like the potatoes and vegetables you get, but it was still super oily at the end of it. 2/5 -Double shrimp and half crab: originally this was supposed to be a whole crab, but the chef "accidentally" gave us half instead. We opted to just change the charge to half a crab since we ordered a whole bunch of food. The crab we got was roasted, which was good but it dried out the flavor of the crab. The shrimp was WAY too salty and it came with two types of clarified butter to dip it into. None of which took away the salt flavor. I was super disappointed because it looked so good. Definitely would not get the sizzling plate due to how salty it is. -Creme brulee cheesecake: Idk about this chief. I do appreciate the taste of vanilla, but it was almost disgusting to eat. The crust itself was doughy and didn't seem cooked all the way. It was like some pie crust that was undercooked with the cheesecake filling on top. I didn't like this as much, but I powered through and ate this all when I got home. 2/5 Overall, my experience was pretty MEH at this place. I wouldn't be rushing to come back anytime soon.

Yelp
Was returning from an emotional journey of scattering my mom's ashes in SF Bay and was referred to this restaurant by a friend. And WOW! The food, friendly staff, and service was awesome. The views were fabulous and comfort level on the outdoor patio was surprising on a cold day as the heaters kept it very nice outside. HIGHLY recommend the mussels .. we will be back and having a craving for these in the meantime. The only bummer was a patron on a narrow stretch of the outdoor dining area who insisted on feeding a raccoon. Most people know NOT to feed wildlife, and as cute as this raccoon was, their reliance of human food and danger this presents when people get too close can't be emphasized enough. The manager was kind enough to try to educate the diner and gently shoo away the raccoon who had obviously had too many close interactions with humans and was terribly close to the man who was on his hands and knees. The man became terribly upset and left the restaurant, even though we observed great service - just because he didn't agree with the manager's request he not feed the raccoon. People -- please don't feed the wildlife!

Yelp
What a fun name and fun menu! Choose indoor or outdoor seating. It was very scenic outside. The muscles were very good and bread is house made. Fried chicken was crispy but a little dry. Fish was delicious Server was not very attentive

Yelp
This place is quirky and fun, and it's definitely about the seafood. Coming here the restaurant was packed with hungry looking patrons. Parking was difficult to find, even with two lots on either side of the entrance. It appeared to have some parking across the street too. I had eaten here before, years ago... not much had changed. The decor, service and food seemed stuck in a time warp. There were four of us and we were seated in a comfortable booth, terraced higher up than the others in the main dining room. We did have reservations. I ordered the Seafood Unsurpasta with black linguine and chocked full of mussels, calamari, fish and so forth in a chioppino sauce. It was quite delicious and filling and I even got to take some home. The seafood was fresh and the linguine perfect. I love pasta with squid ink. I just got an iced tea to wash it down. Service seemed friendly enough, but slow. I figured with the crowd they were stretched and we seemed to wait a noticeable and inordinate amount of time for everything. That ranged from taking the order, getting the food to finally getting the check. Prices are high but not outrageous, and certainly fair for quality seafood. I would come back, especially for a good seafood meal.

Yelp
I tried to love it, but it just didn't turn out that way. . We had reservations for 2pm. We were sat immediately. The restaurant is well lit and spacious, but has a smell to it- like dirty carpet or dirty cleaning solution being used to clean off the booths and tables. The server was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered the mussel and shrimp sizzling skillet. The mussels' shells were burnt and stuck to the skillet. The shrimp were not cooked and rubbery. For entrees, I ordered the prime rib, regular cut- it came with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The meat was hard, lukewarm and over cooked. The potatoes lacked cream and the temperature was as cold as the creamed spinach- which also lacked seasoning. The Kid tried the burger. She said she enjoyed it. The server was understanding about the prime rib issues. She stated she would tell the manager, and that he would come out. Well he never came out, only removing it from the bill. The amount of flies inside the restaurant is ridiculous. At least 10 flies counted on 2 windows and window sills. Unfortunately, I can't say that I will be back

Yelp
Seven of us for dinner mid-week with a reservation. We were seated immediately with no wait. Appetizers included multiple orders of Clam Chowder and the Caesar salad (romaine, garlic croutons, shaved Reggiano), and we were offered anchovy fillets, which I had never experienced before. The table ordered Sea bass (sun-dried tomato, olives, alici, red pepper caper sauce), Fish and Chips, French Dipwich (prime rib, au jus dipping sauce on epi bread), Salmon, The Dead Fish Cioppino Stew (calamari, crab, mussels, clams, fish & shrimp), 1 crab enchilada, 2 crab enchilada. Speaking for the Sea Bass, it was the largest piece of filet I have ever been served, no skin and cooked to perfection. The rest of the dishes looked very good and satisfying. Excellent service by the staff, water glasses were refilled without prompting, and orders were prepared as requested. We had a birthday for one of our pre-teen members, and the servers made it very special. One very notable feature: No corking fee. Many of the tables around us took advantage. The history of the restaurant and its name are explained up front in the menus. Parking is a challenge, but saved by a large lot across the way on San Pablo. Overall, The Dead Fish is a keeper.

Yelp
I will begin with service was great, very attentive. The food.. blech! I ordered to soft shell crab that upon arrival looked crisp and delicious but turned out to be super mushy.. they tasted like they may have been microwaved!. Fries were awful.. super limp! My date ordered the cioppino and said it had an overwhelming taste of bullion and felt the sauce was too thick. We will not be returning.

Yelp
I've been here twice. Once for dinner and once for brunch, both were great. I love the ship theme, the outdoor seating, the quality fish and friendly service. I've had the crab, the calamari, the fish and chips and the crab enchilada. The only one that didn't wow me was the calamari. I wish lobster was on the menu too! I'm *obsessed* with the bread and whipped butter and even the coffee was great quality!

Yelp
First time eating here and it won't be the last. View and ambience were great but the food, even better! We ended up ordering the Crab Lasagna and Garlic Noodles with Shrimp to share. Thanks to our server for their recommendations, we were not disappointed. Highly recommend!

Yelp
As we continue our pescatarian food tour of the Berkeley area, the Dead Fish (on the suggestion of relatives) was our next stop. Situated on the north Bay, this quaint spot is located among the rolling hills of Crockett, CA. We arrived for an early dinner(around) 4 pm and we're seated immediately with a table providing an excellent Bay and territorial view. We have really experienced excellent service on all of our restaurant visits and the Dead Fish fit right in. Our server, Erin, was knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and welcoming. Thank you Erin B.! We started with a trio of appetizers, Calamari , fried Artichoke, and Buschetta. Al were great, in particular the Bruschetta which simply delicious. Next came out entrees, the olive oil poached Branzino with fried veggies (this was one of 4 possible preparations) and the Shrimp Louie with all the usual ingredients. Regarding the Branzino, I would have really enjoyed a larger fish portion and more herbs. The fish was still fine. The menu is Crabcentric and while we love crab, we chose to explore other options. We ended the dinner enjoying a Salted Carmel Vanilla Crunch Cake. The views and food made this an excellent dining choice. Though it is out in the middle of the rolling hills the drive easy.

Yelp
A hidden gem. A must for locals or Bay Area folks returning from Napa! ...I'm not sure where negative reviews are coming from. The black seafood pasta took the prize. A healthy portion size, (nearly $40) the seafood serving on top was generous. The branzino was cooked was cooked perfectly, with a generous portion and tasty sides on the skilllet. We opted for house bread, it came out warm with whipped butter to accompany. The service was swift. We could not believe how quickly our food came out. It may be the difference between dining here on a Monday vs. Saturday night ....Honestly, what does one expect of a restaurant with 4000 reviews to be like on a Saturday night? Quite possibly the only thing negative I could say about this place was the espresso martini being so so, but my Mojito was fantastic. I would 100% come back to dine here I would 100% recommend to friends and family

Yelp
Right off the Carquinez bridge ! Such a nice restaurant. We made the mistake trying to go in through the pink shiny door lol (wrong door) but finally made it in and were seated right away . It gave The Stinking Rose Vibes and sure enough both restaurants have the same owners. It wasn't super busy when we came so when the drink order was place they came out right as our waitress left the table, everything came out at a timely manner which was appreciated . The strawberry lemonade was really good. Usually they taste artificial at some restaurants but not here. Just about everything we ordered was devoured when it reached our table. So I was a little sad we didn't really have leftovers to take home. We used the 2 butters that came with the shrimp and crab for everything ! they were soooooo good. The only flop that wasn't for me was the mashed potatoes. Can't speak on the creamed spinach because I didn't have a chance to try it. But we are definitely coming back .

Yelp
Every time I go to this restaurant, I enjoy myself. I love the view. It's a beautiful place 10 out of 10. The service is always wonderful and the food is always yummy. I love to get the cioppino and their cocktail list is wonderful.

Yelp
We went there to have a drink, a small bite to eat, and to celebrate a birthday by blowing out the candles on our cake. We gave the cake to the staff to keep for us it was summer, and I'm not sure whether they forgot or maybe the fridge was full, but when they brought it back, the cake had completely melted and lost its shape. The food portions were big, but the quality was just okay not bad, but nothing special. It's not the kind of place I'd go back to. The atmosphere was nice, the staff were friendly, and the view was beautiful, but overall, it's just not my type of place.

Maria V.

Yelp
Today I went to the Dead Fish and it was a great experience. Even making the reservation a couple of days prior was easy because they were so accommodating. I had made a reservation for 12 but it ended up being 7 due to people canceling at the last minute but their team was understanding and simply seated us in a smaller table. Usually it's only one or two who will cancel but this time was different, but again the team was flexible and were not upset. Everyone enjoyed their dish and the presentation was very nice. I enjoyed my crab enchilada even more than my last visit. I enjoyed it last time too, but even more today. Kudos to the person preparing the food today. Their bread was delicious, but I was bummed that they charge for it now. What made the visit extra fun was the manager who came to our table to ask how was everything. He was wearing a suit that was a beautiful bright blue. Very eye catching it was. He was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. My group really enjoyed him. He has the right personality for working with the public. Every year I meet with this group of friends. We used to work for the same company so we make it a tradition to meet up at a restaurant once a year. I think we will meet here again next year.

Yelp
Such great service came here few weeks ago for a date with my love. The food was excellent served fresh and hot. I ordered the salmon with roasted veggies and potatoes and a French 75. Everything was amazing. Neat and clean appearance inside and out. I came back today to grab some lunch to go. Both times the manager is Shazam I overheard his name he is fantastic. Very friendly and has great customer service . I will be back. Thanks!!!

Yelp
The most flavorful crab I've ever had! (Aside from my dads, cooked at home of course, lol) I thought The Dead Fish was delish! Everything was packed with flavor. The views are nice (especially on a day like the one I went on, sunny!) and the restaurant vibes are unique. I love the menu, it has offers unique names for their dishes. It kinda gave me Tim Burton vibes. Service was good and quick. Prices are reasonable too. Parking seems to be a bit limited though, so keep that in mind. I'll be adding this place to my top to go places!

Yelp
Good eats and ambiance at DF today. No issues with reserving a window seat for 5. Wait staff was attentive and cleared up the table without asking. Liked the bowl of clam chowder, the meat dishes were good (ribeye & short-ribs). A local spot for my fam ti enjoy a meal with - out of town family!

Yelp
Great experience! Sat in the bar area and shared crab for two, garlic noodles, and the beet salad, all delicious! Wish I could remember our servers name because she was fantastic! You can't beat the beautiful views and delicious food!

Yelp
Just say no- 30 minutes to find parking ? And no parking - then a guy who just shows up and cuts your spot - forget eating there - good luck with Finding a spot - then the signs - park at your own risk ? Security in a truck going around? What's up with that ? In response to the mgrs response- the sign does talk about valuables- and I still can't find parking -

Yelp
May 14 2025 3PM 3.5 stars down from 4.0 due to esthetics. Song for Management: One of these things (photos) is not like the others, One of these things (photos) just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing (photo) is not like the others By the time I finish my song? Note for Management: Today was the first visit that I did not see security monitoring the parking lots. My review: We live close by and stop in about once a year. Though expensive for my wallet, the food is always not bad and is often good.. the portion sizes are pleasant. Today as usual, my wife's and I shared a Dead Fish Stew (Cioppino) and fried calamari. The squid and shrimp were pretty tough chewing in the stew but overall the meal tasted ok. We asked for some bread to munch on while we waited for our meal. Maybe it was being baked or maybe the restaurant staff couldn't keep up with the other geriatric diners. All I know is the bread took its sweet time getting to our table. The beer selection is rather bland if you are craft brew drinker, so I stuck with water. They do serve beer on tap by the liter which I enjoy when I do have beer there. If you get to Crockett you should go and give Dead Fish a try. It is a highlight of Crockett due to the good service and awesome view.

Yelp
I'm really sad to have to do this but would love a response from Peter D. If I have to deal with Shazam's attitude or lack of professionalism again, I will be even more disappointed. We frequent this restaurant (along with the other related restaurants, i.e., The Stinking Rose, Crab House in Sausalito, etc.) often & spend a ton each time (which you can clearly see from my previous reviews) On Sunday, 10/5 we went for a special birthday dinner for my fiancé, as this is one of our favorite places. The service started off good and our waitress (Miriam) was attentive & even brought out the famous birthday candle and a dessert for my honey, even though we didn't mention the birthday at all. We were impressed because it showed that she had seen our reservation because that is the only place where I mentioned it. It was hilarious because he really thought I set him up but I know he doesn't like to be sung to at restaurants, but I never mentioned it. The tip with our bill probably would've been 50 or 60 bucks but we gave her 80 because of the experience and her attention to detail with the birthday thing. Our bill was $291.19 & we tipped her $80 cash (my fiancé is in the hotel industry so we're very adamant about tipping well). When I checked my bank statement the very next day as I do daily, the actual charge was $349 & some change! I called my bank immediately to make sure that the transaction was from this restaurant and they confirmed it was. So my next call was to the restaurant and I encountered the so-called manager, "Shaz" I gave him all of the information, he looked at their records and said that they are only showing the $291.19, so then why is the transaction showing $349 on my side? I didn't receive a call all week so I decided to call today to follow up and was told that he had been out for a few days and that supposedly he sent my information to the corporate office. I explained to him that I am concerned because it feels really shady that my card was charged for a different amount after the fact. And of COURSE my receipt only shows the original amount because we tipped CASH!!! But if something was added after the fact, that is NOT OK!! I'm super frustrated and would like a response from someone else as when I expressed my disappointment to Shaz, he continued to talk over me until he actually hung up on me. Hoping Peter D will see this & respond accordingly. Again, look at alllllll of my reviews. I actually only have positive ones because I believe in recognizing people when they do good, while it seems that everybody else comes to Yelp just to complain. You will clearly see that's not how I operate & I give kudos all the time. I need a response to correct this issue as we won't be returning if it's not.... And if you don't return the extra amount to me, maybe you can use it to purchase a muzzle for "Shaz", that guy's got a mouth on him!

Yelp
I wanted to love this restaurant so bad. I'm a huge seafood lover and I've heard nothing but good things for years about The Dead Fish. I have nothing bad to say about the staff, they were a positive experience. It's simple, the food did not meet my expectations. I ordered mussels and crab with a side of mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the prime rib. He said the prime rib was okay, nothing special. He wasn't a huge fan of the mashed potatoes and hardly touched the huge portion of creamed spinach (did not look or smell appetizing). I personally loved the mashed potatoes, it had zucchini in it as well which I thought was unique. The idea of the seafood coming out on a sizzling platter was cool. It keeps the food nice and hot and makes it feel freshly cooked. However, it was the downfall of the meal. Yes it gave it a nice smoky/barbecue type flavor but it dried everything out. The mussels especially. Half of them were a terrible chalky texture because the heat of the skillet had removed every ounce of moisture. We learned quickly that I guess we prefer mussels in a broth. The crab shell was similarly very dried out from the grill which made it so when you cracked them, the shell would shatter into little pieces and get into the meat. It was just not for me. It was our anniversary and we did put that in our reservation so they brought out a candle and complimentary dessert which was very kind. It was a mousse like cake that had no flavor. We at about half of it just to be respectful but did not enjoy a single bite. If Crockett wasn't an hour drive from where we live I would absolutely give the restaurant another shot. I'm afraid that maybe we just ordered the wrong items and there's sure to be something we enjoy more. However, I don't see myself going that far to take a chance on a place that had such an underwhelming first impression.

Yelp
Just to go straight into it, I ordered the branzino with the garlic lemon caper sauce. It came with couscous and some roasted veggies. I read a lot of reviews saying the fish was dry, but that wasn't the case for me. I thought this dish was pretty good, although $34 for this plate and you can get the Mediterranean branzino at California fish grill for $15-17 (which to compare tastes better imo). I just think it was kind of pricey for what it is and needed more vegetables. But for me the fish it self was pretty moist, I didn't get much lemon flavor until I squeezed and smeared the lemon on the plate more on it. Lowkey, I felt like I was walking into a senior center. LOL. Nothing wrong with it! I guess that just goes to show that they provide very nice and patient service which I felt we were given. Seems like a good place for groups and families as they have a lot of large seating booths. There's 2 parking lots and both were very full on an Easter Sunday.

Yelp
Enjoyed the soft shell crab sandwich. It was delicious and perfect. Service was good. Great ambiance. Nice seating overlooking the bay! The menu has good collection of seafood dishes. Would love to come back and try other dishes!

Yelp
The location and food was amazing! A beautiful day at The Dead Fish restaurant; sitting outside (they have heaters) and enjoyed a relaxing lunch with a great view. The fish and chips is a large portion serving and was perfectly cooked and crispy outside. Not the beer battered kind but more like a seasoned panko crust. Will definitely come back and try other items! Also, best to come early as the parking can fill up fast. Very happy I finally came here!

Yelp
Last night the hostess was very accommodating in changing our reservation due to one person in our party stuck in traffic. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was not very busy. That was great for us. We sat at the bar for a while waiting for our companion to arrive and had bread and drinks. The bartender was very good and the drinks were great. After being seated, our server, David was super nice, answered all our questions and opened our wine (No corkerage fee!). He was efficient and one of the best servers we've ever had. The food was great, served fresh and hot. The room was quiet, conducive to discussions. The restaurant and rest rooms were clean and well maintained. It's worth the two hour drive to get here. We'll be back.

Yelp
I've been here so many times, I just remembered I need to do a review!!!! My favorites from past visits- The Dead Fish Cioppino Stew!!! Crabwich, Crab Angel Hair Lasagna, Seafood Black Linguini!! This visit, I did the Sizzling Iron Skillet Combo! It has Mussels, Shrimp, and Crab!!! Delish!! It came with two sauces, one butter (can't go wrong), and the other tasted like a Cioppino in a cup!! So good!! Hubby and I shared a dozen oysters, it comes with lemon and vinegar/onion sauce to add with Tabasco!! Highly recommend these dishes!! We also shared the Cowboy Ribeye Steak- Medium Rare- it was cooked to perfection!! Perfect time was at lunch when they opened, usually the tables are filled and you have to wait for a seat. Weekends you should do a reservation! We sat in the main dining area, but next time we will try the bar area, looked more cozier. The view was amazing as always! We will be back!

Yelp
Dead Fish was busy as usual but we had a reservation thankfully. We were seated right away in a cozy booth. Our server was quick to take our order and she was very friendly. My only issue was that I asked about the beet salad as an entree and I should have been better informed what I was going to get. The salad was a pile of marinated beets with a slice of avocado and some marinated onions. It was not very good and would be better as a side salad. I wish I was advised to maybe get something else. Everyone else had great food. The other entrees were a burger which was huge and very well prepared. Sea bass with lemon caper sauce was another choice we made which was also very good. When I made the reservation I put down it was a birthday and they came out the end with piece of cake and a candelabra. Overall it was a good restaurant to visit. The views are amazing of the bay.

Yelp
My in laws took me here for my bday and I had such an amazing time. From the service our reservations was right on the dot. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. It was great to see there was some regulars that knew the servers. It's great to know the vibes of the restaurant was very family oriented. From the bread to my ciopinno was A+ the bread was so soft and fresh. The cioppino was so tasty so fresh. It had clams, mussels, crab clusters it has the perfect amount of spice. My husband had the crab and shrimp skillet and it came in on a cast iron skillet sizzling with 2 different types of butter. Definitely will be heading back soon and the view! The bridge and the water priceless

Yelp
Everything seems to be back to normal as it was before the pandemic! The hosts are very amiable and respectful. The waiters are very attentive and very nice! The food is absolutely fabulous! I also love the fact that they do not charge for corkage fee! If you want to impress a date, bring her here! The view of the ocean and the bridge is just absolutely amazing! For such a wonderful location, and such a great food, I think the prices are very reasonable! Now a little message to the management; bring back the kettle baked chicken! I've had talked to some long-term dead fish customers, and they all agree that the kettle baked chicken must be brought back!

Yelp
I finally had the opportunity to visit The Dead Fish. My family and I had a lunch with a beautiful view day after Thanksgiving. The history behind this restaurant is cool and it's been around for a while so be sure to bookmark this one if you're looking for good seafood and prime rib. For my first visit, I opted to try the Cowboy Ribeye which was cooked to perfection in a tasty garlic butter sauce. This steak was paired with cream of spinach and a creamy mash. I will be sure to revisit TDF for their prime rib!

Yelp
My parents brought us here for my wife's birthday, and it was fantastic! The portions were great, the seafood tasted fresh and well seasoned. The service was fast, and food came out hot. There's a lot of shareable items, and you can mix and match the seafood. Prices are worth it! For starters we went with clam chowder, calamari, and the bread. First time we've been charged for bread, but I can't blame you cause it's made fresh in house and this economy sucks. Clam chowder was good, and dipping the bread in it was even better. The calamari came out fast and hot. Very fresh tasting and crispy! Next we got double shrimp and crab skillet combo. It comes out sizzling on a hot skillet like fajitas. It comes with their seasoned butter and regular butter for dipping. The shrimp were a little small but the Dungeness crab was a great size, and so fresh! The cioppino was probably the best I've ever had but also I've only tried it a handful of times at different restaurants. The prime rib was ok, nothing special. The mash potatoes are mashed with zucchini, which I wasn't a big fan of. My kid got the garlic noodles with Dungeness crab. I thought there would be more crab in it than what we paid for, and I think they missed on the garlic part of the noodles. It was still good though. We skipped out on desert, nothing seemed to catch our eyes. Overall, 4 stars, we will be back to catch the views when the sun is out.

Yelp
This isn't my first time here but this latest was absolutely the best experience of them all. The new GM Shazam was professional and personable. He came by to check on us often and did the same for other tables. The only downside was the parking but that was because we went on a Saturday night. The restaurant itself was fabulous. We highly recommend this place. Shazam if you read this, you are doing an excellent job!!! Thank you for making our experience memorable.
