We just landed in Montana to visit my daughter. She had someone recommend this place. We had such a great experience from the minute we walked in. We were greeted by the owner Rob and he was so fun to talk to and to hear the story behind the name. Hailey was our waitress and she was so sweet and personable! Such a cool place and the food was DELICIOUS!! Highly recommend!!!

What a hidden gem. We found this place based on the reviews. When we arrived we almost moved on. It looked like it was closed and seemed a bit sketch. However once we opened the door we found a packed busy restaurant with a great vibe and an even better history and story. Oh yeah, the food was Fantastic! The servers were fun, and the whole experience was memorable. Food portions are Huge so bring your appetite.

Atmosphere was an old, all-American vibe; food was delicious; servers and hosts were so kind. I loved it! The Huckleberry blonde beer was also yummy. This place made me feel like I stepped back in time. 100% recommend!

Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of dining at the Desoto grill. I was in Kalispell on a business trip and the hotel I am staying at recommended it. I walked down the street to the Desoto Grill and walking in the front doors I could see the place was packed, so I sat at the Bar. Tammy was my server, and she greeted me with a smile. I sat at the bar which was great because I was able to see the kitchen staff in action. Through the evening I struck up a conversation with Nick who was very busy like the rest of the staff, still made time to talk to me in-between orders. I ordered the Nachos, which are HUGE! Don't try to eat them alone! A slice of Huckleberry Cheese Cake and a Huckleberry Beer. My first bite of the Nachos was AMAZING! Hands down the best Nachos I've ever had. The Cheese cake was even better. Now I am not a big beer drinker but I was feeling a beer in this wonderful atmosphere and the Huckleberry Beer did not disappoint. When my travels bring me back to Kalispell I will 100% eat here.

We got the combo platter of brisket, elk sausage, and pork belly with traditional slaw, Mac n cheese, and smoked veggies. The brisket was dry and the elk sausage was quite salty. For a price tag of $55, not too much comes out. If you’re a big eater, you’ll probably be able to finish this by yourself; if not, two can probably share - but the elk sausage is legit just one sausage. Pork belly is very fatty and tender, but doesn’t blow you out of the water. But the cornbread and the huckleberry beer is great

What a great place. Cool vibe, great food, great service. Eat outside on a nice day and all will be well with the world. I’ve eaten here several times now and every time is spot on. This time I had the beef brisket platter with Kats beans, potato salad and a slice of corn bread. Oh it’s good. This place is on my must eat here every time I go to Kalispell list.

For authentic, mouthwatering barbecue, consider Desoto Grill! The BEST BBQ in Montana. For main courses, try the brisket platter. It is incredibly tender, falling off the bone with a rich, yummy flavor. It is perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and tender inside. The portions are generous! The corn bread is to die for, especially when honey is added on top. The staff are friendly and attentive.The atmosphere is laid-back, cool, and historic. My son LOVES the mac and cheese, which is unbelievably creamy and delicious. Desoto Grill is a must-try for any barbecue enthusiast or anyone seeking a satisfying meal.

Incredible food! Make sure to go! This food was incredible. The waitress recommended that we get the pork belly for an appetizer and boy I’m glad I did. Absolutely phenomenal! I’m going back just to get that dish!

Go for the great BBQ.... Prepared to be AMAZED by the stellar customer service / patron and staff camaraderie. Just an outstanding experience and worth the wait. For a party of 4, two Combo Platters with 3 Meats and 3 Sides is the way to go. But YOU MUST try the Pork Belly PBJ bites. The ambiance and vibe transports you to something reminiscent of the South. This was our favorite memory of our recent Whitefish Montana trip.

Service 10/10 Food selection was not overdone and had something for everyone. We sat outside but inside was old school country diner vib. The food was amazing. I had the supercharged BLT and I will probably never see a BLT the same again. We also had the Elk hoagie and that was amazing as well. The collard greens were rich in flavor. I was sad not to try the warm huckleberry pie with ice cream, but I was so full after eating I couldn't manage it. Their selection was great as well and also not up done would 100% recommend this place to anybody who's traveling for something unique!

Worth the wait! We were told wait was over an hour but we were eating within 45m Food is delicious and the staff are really great. You can also grab a drink inside while you wait. The place is small when outdoor dining isn't open but it's definitely worth the wait. EVERYTHING we ate was so good.

Tucked away in Kalispell and absolute must for anyone visiting Kalispell. Get there early!

Forge is great! The corn bread really shines--warm, buttery, and so good. The BBQ combo and pork chop were both delicious and satisfying. Good food, laid-back vibes, and definitely worth a visit.

Authentic small-town vibes with great service, but the food was disappointing. My salmon hoagie was just dry salmon with cheese on top, and my husband didn't enjoy his meal either. The cornbread was the one highlight -- that part was delicious.

We are visiting Kalispell on a vacation trip with friends and needed dinner. Yelp suggested the DeSoto Grill so we gave it a try and, boy are we glad we did! Rob, the manager, greeted us outside and immediately took bus under his wing. One of our party has some mobility challenges and Rob made sure he and we were well taken care of. Our food was excellent and the staff was awesome! When we mentioned a food allergy, our server went above and beyond to help ensure we were taken care of. The brisket, the pork belly and the pulled pork were awesome and the sides were all amazing. If you're in Kalispell, you can't do better and tell Rob that "Doc from Moscow" recommended him!

What a gem in the little town. It looks like an old wooden shack from the outside, and once you walk in...it's a feast for the eyes! Yes, you'll smell like smoke from the gill, but the food well makes up for this. I had the BLT and it was beyond! My husband had the stuffed bake potato and it was enough for 2! Delicious, friendly staff. Worth seeking out!

Brisket was delicious. Loved the collard greens. Cool little spot with good beers. We will be back.

What went well? Everything! First of all, the venue is very cool! It's filled with rustic/tool shed/saloon vibes. It *feels* like the Wild West. We were greeted by a very nice hostess that was able to seat us right away! Our server was more than accommodating and was timely in all our orders and requests (new napkins, etc). I think I'll need to go back several times this trip so I can try everything in the menu! Literally every item sounded (and smelled) delicious! The kitchen is open in the same room too, so that was neat. Also, they have GF buns for substitution, and they are really good! Everything on the menu is GF (or GF substitutable) The beer selection isn't big, but it's quality - tasty brews from local MT breweries. They have several signature cocktails as well, if that's what you're looking for! Overall a must try if you find yourself in Kalispell!

Second time back but left a little disappointed. Tried the Brisket Cheese Steak Sandwich. The brisket was very fatty, lacked any smoke flavor, and the sandwich as a whole lacked flavor. It could have used a BBQ sauce to kick it up some. Service is good and a nice bar-like feel on the inside but family friendly. I'll be back but won't order that sandwich again.

I see plenty of great reviews for this place, so we decided to try it. I ordered the brisket sandwich with slaw, a side of beans, and added the cornbread, I love cornbread. Well the brisket was disappointing, it was dry and didn't have much of a flavor other than the bbq sauce that was covering it. Not to mention my slightly burned bun, made it all dryer. The beans are very sweet, it threw me off, I thought they would be more savory, I couldn't eat more than a bite. I never got my cornbread, although I saw our waitress, bring "free" cornbread to the table next to us. The cornbread was still on the check, so I had to have them take it off. She was very nice and apologetic about it. We ordered the huckleberry cheese cake to go, we ate it for dessert that night and it was really good. Not too sweet, just right.

Unique food, non nonsense service, great atmosphere. I wish there were more vegan options, but this is Montana.

Incredible restaurant! So good. It was my first time there and I was blown away. You have to try the pork belly it was so delicious. I ordered it as an appetizer and I cannot wait to get back there and order it again. The tables were all full you could tell it's a popular place. The staff were super friendly and really made sure we were getting everything we needed.

This place is incredible! The food, amazing! Atmosphere, spectacular! Service, 10/10! We are passing through town on a glacier trip and I might come back, just to grab dinner here. The pork belly and brisket are going to live in my dreams for the next few weeks.

Rustic, down home, fun and hopping! What a great place to come for barbecue and lunch. They have huge barbecue plates, and also salads and nachos- stuff like that. Service is friendly and helpful.

Cool atmosphere! The food portions are huge! Where else can you go and have a huge piece of cornbread and a beer. Read the menu closely though...my son got the BLT and was mortified. Not the normal BLT. Service was great, so friendly! Go hungry!

I had researched the spot before we arrived and knew we would have to give it a try. Even on a Thursday evening they were full when we arrived but we were seated promptly and immediately offered drinks while we perused the menu. Service was excellent, the food was hot and delicious, and such a beautiful old building!

5 stars so easily! We had a group of about 20 in town for Glacier National Park, and came here for dinner on a recommendation. They don't take reservations and it took about an hour and a half for a group our size to get a table. Honestly it was so worth it, which is saying a lot. We sat at the patio outside and got drinks while we were waiting, and the bartenders were super nice and very generous with their pours. We started with the cornbread, which was warm, soft, fresh, and lived up to the hype we'd been hearing. I got the loaded baked potato with brisket. I'm picky about brisket-any fat or super chewy pieces kill it for me but wow, this might be the best brisket I've ever had. It was so tender that it basically fell apart, so well-seasoned, and all of the flavors in the toppings went together perfectly. And the Mac and cheese! I'm a huge Mac and cheese person, and this was some of the best I've ever had as well. I don't know what kind of magic they put in it, but it's amazing. The staff were super nice and clearly took pride in their food, and the decor was very inviting. I can't speak highly enough about this place. Definitely a must-visit!

Amazing BBQ! First off the staff is amazing, so friendly and welcoming. We ordered the half size brisket nachos and brisket platter with Mac n cheese and baked beans and everything was delicious! The vibe and food is amazing and a great place to go after long hikes. Highly recommend!

Food smelled great, so won't knock it because couldn't try. Sat at a table for 20 minutes waiting on a marg that never came, so ordered to go, 40 minutes later still no food. Canceled the order. Had 3 kiddos, hard to keep them still for over an hour. They were packed no doubt, but seems pretty slow for BBQ and wait times given were not accurate in the slightest.

Absolutely wonderful food here! I highly recommend visiting and trying everything they have on the menu. I have been eating here for years now and it justs keeps getting better.

Ohhh myyyy gosh this place is the BOMB! We came to Montana for our honeymoon and our fishing tour guide recommended this place. You have to stop by here if you're in town. Like you just have to. From the wait staff to the food to the crazy amazing ambiance I just can't get enough. They're busy but they definitely want you to have a good time. Just order anything on this dang menu it is going to be . I promise.

Yesterday I had the brisket sandwich and was not impressed with the brisket but the place had so many great things I decided to come back the next day and order something else. I got great friendly service again and the place is really cool. Ordered the ribs this time. The ribs lacked seasoning, they need a good BBQ rub. Too bad they don't know about "Meat Church" BBQ RUBS! It's too bad because this is a great spot to eat, just has bland BBQ that lacks seasoning. Enjoyed the Mac and cheese and the cornbread and smoked veggies were good too.

One of the best dinners I have had in a long time. So friendly, phenomenal food and so homely atmosphere!

From my Facebook post to my 2000 friends: Gotta share about tonight's dinner. On this trip, we've been to great steakhouses that serve exotic game, in world-renowned resort towns. We've been to an artsy, bougie French brasserie with entrees I couldn't pronounce in the heart of a trendy university town. And tonight, I had my best meal of the trip in a BBQ dive Miles found as highly rated in Kalispell, Montana. They smoke their own meats. Miles had the brisket, I had the pork belly. Yummy cornbread with honey butter and tasty sides, which included 4 different Mac and cheese options. So good! As you'll see in the photos, the atmosphere is kitschy and cute! When we walked in, the joint was popping! Packed. Only two seats available at the end of the bar. And that perch allowed me to see behind the curtain, to what I truly loved about the place. As many of you know, my mom owned a restaurant. And staff seldom got along. Lotsa spats and snark. While enjoying my divine pork belly, I got to eavesdrop on an hour of conversations at the adjacent server's station and host stand. They repeatedly asked how we were doing, if we needed anything--so much so that I had to ask who was actually our server lol. How they treated us wasn't what stood out, however. I must have heard these kids say "please" and "thank you" to each other a dozen times. I heard praise and gratitude for how other servers pitched in to help with a large party. And I even heard an "I'm sorry" about something I didn't see. Great food. Fun atmosphere. Good people. If you ever find yourself in Kalispell, don't deny yourself the joy of eating at The DeSoto Grill.

Fckn fantastic. The manager (Tammie I believe) was super nice and helpful when it came to ordering. I'm from out of town and was recommended this place by many. It definitely lived up to the remarks that were given. Some of the best barbecue I've had in years. I will say this, sadly there wasn't a lot of food prepped protein wise(new years eve) but the options they had were still amazing. The place itself was super clean and orderly, and the staff was super nice, even told jokes with them. I love how you can see the kitchen staff work and communicate and you can even talk to them. Shoot I can't even think of things they could improve on. Overall 9.7 outta 10 and will be coming back the next time I visit!

Heard about this place a few times in two days. So I had to try it. I entered and was stupefied to see how busy they were. I got a seat at the bar. I watched the cops working together to get the meals out. I asked them for a recommendation. They recommended a few different things and advised me that it was Prime Rib day. I love a good prime rib. I watched them cut a slice for someone. Man, did it look good. I asked if the meat was smoked? Yes, and seared. Nice. I said OK to the prime rib. I got my plate pretty quick. Potato, loaded. Collards. Meat with some creamy horsey sauce and aju. Everything was awesome and tasted better than I imagined. The meat was super tender. The fixings were also full of flavor. These guys know their BBQ / Smoked meats. They were also very informative. It was fun watching them making each meal. I would like to thank them for entertaining me and talking with me while they worked. The wait staff was also very attentive. They constantly asked me how everything was. Everyone made sure that I had everything I needed. I was really full by the end. The vibe was really nice. Everyone was having a great time eating. I could hear the people around me commenting how good their food was. They were right. The food was great. Thanks, guys. You were awesome. I recommend.

The food and service at Desoto Grill are phenomenal. We always sit at the bar and chat with the chefs. The cousin Rob is friendly and pretty much runs the show. All the staff is very knowledgeable about the menu, and our server, Delta Dawn, is always very helpful. The food comes out super fast and sizzling. I'd recommend the nachos, pulled pork sandwich, Philly cheese steak, or any of their desserts. We have tried many items and always come back for more. Five stars isn't enough Jamie and Anna

Absolutely delicious AND everything is homemade!!! From entrees to sauces to sides to their mouth watering bottomless strawberry lemonade it is all made in house. Prices are decent and service was knowledgeable, quick, and friendly. Take a look out back to see the smoker where they make the magic happen! Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back!

I can cook really good food. Let me tell you I highly recommend this place. Their chili is so good, the best in the valley. All I could say is the best BBQ and best service. Especially, the complimentary while waiting for table.

I love everything about this place but the pulled pork is the absolute best i've ever had AND they have gluten free buns! Nice, family run staff who give great and friendly service. The whole place has a cozy vibe with a rustic ambiance! A must eat at if you are in the area! It's first come first serve and gets busy so plan accordingly!

This may be the best BBQ we've ever eaten... and we've eaten a bunch of BBQ all over our great nation! Today we had pulled pork, beef brisket, pork belly and elk sausage... everything was amazing! Try the fresh strawberry lemonade! Excellent and friendly service! The ambience is a live history lesson inside a historic and well appointed garage. We loved it!

Parking won't be an issue but there is a bit of a wait. Order in advance to go or be ready for a dinner rush. The cornbread is to die for- be sure to get some. The mac and cheese gets piled on for days and days- a genuine heart attack waiting to happen in the best of ways

Food, ambiance, and atmosphere is amazing! The employees we interacted with were absolutely helpful, amazing with recommendations! Had the brisket sandwich, supercharged BLT, and the pork belly bites and did not disappoint! We will be back!

When I walked in, I didn't think they could be gluten safe. But boy was I wrong. The server we had was very knowledgeable about gluten, dairy and soy, yes I have all three of these allergies. My wife and I started with the Thai peanut butter, and Huckleberry jelly pork belly, and it was the best pork belly I'd ever had. And the Thai peanut butter and jelly worked perfectly with it. It melted in my mouth. I then ordered the pulled pork sandwich with collard greens, and again, it was the best gluten free bun I'd ever had, and the pulled pork was very juicy from the first bit to the last bite. They use a local bakery for their GF buns. I am very sensitive to gluten and know with an hour if my food has been cross-contained, and this wasn't. I had no issues and when I find myself back in Kalispell, I am going to go back. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

Oh my, the food here is fantastic, the atmosphere is fun (i love the ladies' bathroom) and the service is quick and waitresses personable. We went twice during our five-day stay. Cobb salad with pulled pork, chili, elk sausage, macaroni and cheese, collard green, --- great beers!!

Food was really good. The staff went above and beyond what is experienced in good restaurants. The locals I spoke with that come here regularly much the same.​

Best BBQ in Kalispell. You must try the pork belly pb & j bites. Definitely big enough for 4 ppl to share. The mac and cheese is on point. Not too dry, just enough creaminess and nice and cheesy! Baked beans had a big vinegar kick but still delicious. Brisket was tender and juicy. Cornbread comes out with every meal ordered which I love. I had the strawberry , huckleberry salad and thoroughly enjoyed it with chicken on top and the dressing on the side. Service was impeccable! Every single server was attentive and engaged with the entire restaurant!

Desoto Grill is absolutely one of my favorite places in town. The food is fantastic -- I particularly like their Smoky Reuben, paired with a dark beer -- and the service is always great. Get some cornbread with whatever you order... it's wonderful!

I love BBQ! I love Meat! Tucked away in what appears to be an abandoned auto shop, Desoto Grill serves some hearty meaty meals with smiles in a fun comfy casual atmosphere. I loved the fun decor! And I loved my friendly chatty waitress too! $23 Elk Sausage Plate...I can't find Elk in southern California, so I had to try! Two thick generous elk sausages that had a unique gamey taste, yum! $11 1/4 of Beef Brisket...tasty tender beef! $4 Pork Rib...tender and fall of the bone, tasty! This was my favorite protein out of the 3! I'll get a full plate of this next time! Collard greens were just as good as any I had in Texas, Georgia, and the Carolinas. The bacon mac n cheese is HUGE, cheesy, meaty, and delicious! The corn bread is amazing too...so buttery that I almost didn't add more butter. Almost...

I've only been a few times but I have to say I'm impressed w the food. It's pretty flavorful and on point! Last visit we had pork belly and the brisket baked potato. It was just all stupid delicious. Service was good. I'm a fan I look forward to going back before I leave Montana.

The food was amazing. I had a classic cheeseburger and it was cooked very well the cheese was melted amazingly. I also has the mac and cheese which as super nice and creamy as well as the strawberry lemonade which was quite sweet but still great. Everyone in the restaurant was very helpful and welcoming constantly checking in. The decorations were also very nice gave the restaurant a great overall feel that complimented the food.

In Kalispell for a wedding. Looked up BBQ on Yelp and found this place. OMG the staff is amazing and the Brisket cheese steak sandwich was some of the best brisket I ever had. Potato salad and coleslaw were really Good. Everything here is made on sight. Corn bread, wow.

While in Kalispell we were looking for something a bit differen, so we decided to try the DeSoto Grill. Man was it good!! We ordered three different platters - the St. Louis spareribs, the chicken breast and the elk sausage. For sides we had the bacon and hot link macs, collard greens and the potato salad. Everything was delicious! The rub on the ribs and chicken really stood out and the greens were the best I've had anywhere! The macs were really good too! The portions are huge (especially for the prices) and the service was great! Fun atmosphere as well! We would definitely return!
