Desoto Grill
Let me start by stating that I am in no way a Bbq expert or connoisseur.
Just a regular guy that likes to eat and knows flavor.
The Desoto Grill, in the Big Sky country, Kalispell, Montana.
I was recommended this place by locals and took a chance.
The exterior looked a bit uninviting, like an old industrial barn or building of some sort. And inside was a bit dark, and reminiscent of a Dive bar.
Like this place probably is buzzing for drinkers on weeknights and weekends.
Ordered the Beef Brisket Plate, with a side of Their Popular Collard greens w/pork, and potatoe salad. This meal also came with a side of Two pieces of Corn bread and whipped butter. Bonus points.
Brisket: little to no Smokey flavor, and not much seasoning. Not as fall apart as Texas style bbq if I can compare. Came out warmish. Not hot.
Potato salad: Topped with green onions, seasoned well and delicious
Collard Greens: Now this... this was the star of the show. The side...
Tangy and Slightly sweet like honey almost. Amazing blend of complimenting flavors and large chunks of pork, yumm.
The corn bread was a nice bonus, not crusty but airy and just right. Not hot though I might add. The whipped butter made up for the spreadabilty factor tho.
Washed everything down with a delicious local Soda pop made with Huckleberry, which Montana is known for.
In summary: for me? When eating bbq, the protein of choice should be the piece that ties everything together. In this case, it was their side that was carrying the team.
Can't speak for the rest of the protein options, but for a $30+ plate, Briskets gotta brisket. Bit underwhelming for bbq. Desoto is a great option for a quick lunch , but I wouldn't recommend for "The Bbq Spot".
