Classic, historic diner, with all the pros and cons that come with the territory. Lively, crowded atmosphere, extensive menu of American diner classics (with some fun surprises!), friendly wait staff, relatively clean, relatively noisy, and an absolutely blistering pace.
I came here for a father's day brunch with my mom and grandfather, and we were seated immediately, which was terrific. There was some confusion over who was supposed to take our drink orders, but we got squared away soon enough. The coffee was competent, and our waitress was delightful, and I was excited to try the breakfast enchiladas, which is something I've never seen on a menu anywhere before.
When our food arrived was when things got a little less impressive - both my mother and I had ordered shredded hashbrowns, extra-crispy, but we got country potatoes which were kind of cold. Mom re-ordered hers, and they came out relatively quickly, but were definitely not extra-crispy. My grandfather ordered the mini-quiche, which is another fairly unique offering, but the portion was smaller than he was expecting (as opposed to the absolutely massive breakfast enchiladas), and the billing isn't *quite* accurate - it's really an egg scramble served on a pre-baked pastry shell rather than a true quiche. Still, everything was tasty, the coffee was plentiful, and I would come here again, particularly if I were looking for a straight-up American diner fix - just preferably not during rush time, since it took us about 15 minutes to flag down our gal and get our check whenever we were finally ready to wrap up and head out.
