This Newport, Rhode Island, Hotel is a Testament to the Glory of the Gilded Age - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"A signature restaurant led by lauded chef April Bloomfield, this dining room channels a 1920s sportsman-inspired tavern vibe while presenting seasonal, elevated tavern fare. Offerings spotlight regionally tuned dishes and thoughtful preparations — signature items called out include Vermouth-braised rabbit, smoked salmon paired with duck-fat potatoes, and a distinctive New England clam chowder — alongside a cocktail program that leans playful and inventive."

We had such a great experience at the Vanderbilt dining room. The atmosphere was dark and moody in the best way — it gave off a true old money vibe that made the whole night feel a little more special. We started with raw oysters, clams, and Old Bay cocktail shrimp, and everything was sooo good — super fresh and flavorful. We also split a Caesar salad (because why not?) before diving into our main dinner, which we picked off the specials list: steak frites, cooked perfectly medium rare. Every bite was delicious. Already looking forward to coming back!

When you want to escape the tourist riff raf of Newport and enjoy an elegant old world dining room, look no further than here. The ambiance is 1st class, without being pretentious and quiet where you can actually hold a conversation over dinner. The cocktails we started off with were all expertly made, I had the sweet heat while my friend ordered the nomadic old fashioned and my wife ordered the paper tiger. For food we had 2 Royal’s(burgers) and they were ligit, so so good. My wife had the Harry’s Bar Ham & Gruyère, very, very good. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Three in my party dined here and all had an amazing meal. The quality of the food was outstanding. We started with shrimp cocktail, smoke haddock croquettes, and garden salad. All excellent. The main courses consisted of duck which was cooked perfectly as was the ribeye for two. I selected the Frenzy Sauvignon Blanc and was very pleased. For dessert we tried collectively the sticky toffee pudding. It was a spice cake with coffee ice cream and a caramel base. All in all the ambience was excellent and staff was good as well.

I made reservations and visited for brunch with my family. Quite a charming resort and dining area, wonderfully decorated and had a very welcoming feel. The brunch was very good and the cocktails were outstanding. The service was impeccable, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I will certainly visit this place again for a meal and hopefully stay the weekend in the near future.

We went to the Newport Hour, the Vanderbilt’s version of Happy Hour on a Friday night this winter. We got the first seats at the bar which filled up quickly. The mixologists were awesome. Drinks were delicious. We tried several from their curated menu. The ambiance is great. The classy, classic setting combines history with modern menu twists. The anchovy toast was magical, oysters fresh & delicious, bread and butter was dreamy. We were a mix of couples, & friends.

Dining at The Vanderbilt in Newport, Rhode Island, offers a luxurious and memorable experience. The historic mansion-turned-boutique hotel features elegant dining spaces, including a formal dining room, a casual conservatory, and a stunning rooftop bar with views of Newport Harbor. The service one server was not quite friendly for us but overall was ok. The menu showcases fresh, locally sourced ingredients with a mix of classic and contemporary dishes. The extensive wine list, creative cocktails, and craft beers complement the food offerings. The fries are way too salty need to ask for water again and again. The server never ask how to cook meat, and serves very well-cooked meat. While dining at The Vanderbilt is on the pricier side, the exceptional quality of the food, service, and ambiance makes it worth the cost, especially for special occasions or casual.

Google
A classic restaurant, offering a prix fixe menu for Christmas Day. The atmosphere was wonderful, resembling a colonial style, New Orleans like environment. There was live music. The food was great, very tasty and plenty. After dinner, the restaurant manager gave us a quick tour of the rest of the hotel. It was a great visit.

Google
My family and I had Thanksgiving dinner here. The hotel is beautiful and we loved the ambiance. The food was pretty basic and not exciting. It was a pre fix menu and there wasn’t many choices. The food was bland, but nicely presented. The service was great. It was cozy and a nice place to spend Thanksgiving with my family.

Yelp
The Dining Room at the Vanderbilt Hotel is a perfect place to enjoy a relaxed brunch in Newport. The conservatory room and garden are some of the best spots to sit. The florals and natural light create such a calm and inviting vibe. I would open a few more windows to get some good air breezing through. The brunch menu has some amazing options. You have to try the ricotta pancakes, the smoked salmon benedict, and the avocado toast. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and just the right portion size. The service was friendly and attentive but never over the top. Whether you want a special weekend brunch or just a nice meal with good vibes this place is a great choice. Highly recommend it when you are in Newport. Wound suggest they work in the valet. It was a little confusing and took too long.

Yelp
The atmosphere was very upscale and relaxing. The dim lighting and the soft music brings a relaxing mood. The service was great. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. The duck was flavorful and tender. The burger was juicy and big enough for two people to share. The pasta was simple, but tender and delicious.

Yelp
The Prince Del Drago is the best espresso martini I've ever had! Bar staff is friendly and the hotel has a really cool ambiance.

Yelp
Had daily breakfast here that was included with our room package and Sunday dinner here. The breakfast is awesome. I would even eat here if I was not staying at the hotel. Fresh locally sourced ingredients. We had the breakfast sandwich with sausage, and blueberry pancakes. If you like bacon, add some as a side, it's thick, a little smoky. Yummy iced coffees. They can do a mini salad as a side instead of potatoes. Beautiful ambience. We had breakfast once in the darker dining room or sometimes they can do breakfast in the neat garden house room. Either room is such a nice ambience. Sunday dinner was great as we wanted to try their Sunday Roast (only available on Sundays). I am not a roast fan and loved it and the gravy was sooo good I even googled to see if I could find the recipe. (I didn't). Yummy cocktails with neat twists but the spicy pineapple drink was my fave. Pretty decent wine menu.

Yelp
The ambiance does it for me, not going to lie. Lovely meal, great cocktails and mocktails!

Yelp
classy, historic, and full of charm- a beautiful restaurant, bar, and library room on the first floor of the Vanderbilt Hotel. came here for dinner and was really impressed with the vibes here. food and drinks were excellent. there are two dining areas- one in the front that has a full bar and is a bit louder, and one in the back that is quiet and quaint. service was excellent and food was well done. finished dinner by having a drink in the library room. would definitely return in the future.

Yelp
Beautiful interior, dark and intimate. old world ingredients meet new wave culinary techniques. Great service and care from the minute we sat down. The food was absolutely delicious. Tip: on Sundays they offer a delicious Sunday roast that brings you back to London. The chicken liver mousse was perfect and the duck entree was simply perfect. Cheers

Yelp
My wife and I have been meaning to try out the Vanderbilt dining room and had wanted to visit during restaurant week but finally got around to visiting Saturday evening and it did NOT disappoint! My wife had the organic chicken and I had the duck breast, our waitress Sara was very lovely very attentive and answered all of our questions ( we had many) without hesitation. The host was kind and accommodating as well and made us feel welcome. This place is an absolute hidden gem. The fire really gives a romantic feel and every plate served was excellent.

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday with a fabulous meal! Ambiance is cozy, elegant and great for an intimate dinner. Outstanding meal and service - shoutout to Auriana! The duck with fresh corn and blueberry compote was perfect. The sea bass special was excellent. The octopus and foie gras appetizers were both delicious. We thought we were too full for dessert but when the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream magically appeared topped with a happy birthday chocolate, we had to at LEAST try it. We finished every bit of it, and would have licked the plate too if it was socially acceptable.

Ann K.

Yelp
Sadly one of my worst experiences ever. The hostess were extremely rude and asked us to seat in the reception area while they looked for a table. 1hr later, everyone was seated other than us. When we asked the hostess about our long wait, she rudely told us that a few people had cut the line and sat in our place. We opted to leave as we were clearly not wanted in this restaurant. The manager Caroline ran after us to apologize for the hospitality but the damage was done by then. This is definitely not a place I would like to spend my time or money.

Yelp
Excellent place that one has to try in Newport. This restaurant is located in an old Vanderbilt mansion that is now also a hotel. The food and bar vibes is amazing. And this place provides the ambiance of eating in opulence and in a museum. One should check this out for either dinner or drinks, or for the rooftop when it opens again. Great hidden treasure in Newport if one wants to check out somewhere not on the wharfs, and more hidden.

Yelp
We had a reservation and had to wait 25 min for a table. We were seated in the garden which was beautiful but once the sun set we were dining in the dark. Food was delicious but service was slow and honestly quite terrible. Anastasia was lovely and offered us dessert and a drink if we had wanted as a gesture to make things right, but we declined since we had already paid and it was getting late. I think we may have hit the Dining Room on an off night.

Rick L.

Yelp
The food was very good; however, the menu was very limited. Service was average. The dining room advertises as if it was a formal fine dining, but the servers wear jeans and informal dress. The bar is small and when the bartender makes martinis the shaking makes so much noise it dominates the room. The parking valet had attitude as well. We were disappointed with the experience.

Yelp
Speakeasy vibes. It's a dark, romantic room. The wait staff were very kind. I ordered an extra dirty martini with bleu cheese olives, the martini was well made but I think the bleu cheese had turned. I ordered the ricotta gnocchi. The sauce was rich and unfortunately the gnocchi was pillow soft. The whole dish felt overly heavy and mushy. I a little sauce would pair better with the soft gnocchi- perhaps even a pumpkin or squash OR the gnocchi should have been much hardier / al dente to stand up to the rich sauce. The highlight for me was the clam chowder. It was not traditional but it was beyond amazing: well seasoned, perfect consistency. I could taste every single ingredient and loved it so much I could have just had that with the bread. I tried several clam chowders after this one and they all seemed like a bowl of cream with potatoes and clams after this amazing dish. Very well done!

Yelp
Had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner here. The menu is special with a variety of sections. I had the best, melt in your mouth, sirloin I've ever had. The staff is attentive and helpful. Of course, a bit on the pricey side, based on its location and history, but I found it to be well worth the expense. The traditional American decor is just lovely.

Yelp
This was supposed to be a nice dinner to celebrate a milestone birthday. Unfortunately, our expectations were a world apart from our experience. The dining room is just a loud bar. The service was slow and lackluster. The food was decent but it took quite a long time for it to arrive after ordering...including the 'shareable plate' of bread. We weren't the only ones having this experience. Several diners around us could be heard expressing frustration with the service. After two hours, we gave up on ordering dessert. Such a shame!

Yelp
Great spot for brunch in Newport! Love the setting, ambiance, and interior. You could hear the rain coming down while dining. I got the lavender haze which was refreshing and floral. For food, we got the lobster roll and the chicken sandwich. Both were amazing. The lobster roll bread was toasted and buttered perfectly. The chicken sandwich was delicious and not dry. The burger looked great too! Overall great experience!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant with friendly service! We went during the oyster happy hour- the oysters were cleanly shucked and absolutely delicious. We got a couple cocktails that were perfectly made. Would highly recommend stopping in here while you are in Newport!

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times for dinner, and unfortunately each visit left much to be desired. We love other Auberge establishments, and high hopes for the Vanderbilt. The service is not friendly, and each time there was no hostess, so someone else sat us- which caused confusion for the staff, as no server seemed to know we were there. The wait times were absurdly long, more so during our second visit. We waited an hour before our appetizers arrived, and another hour for our dinner to arrive. The food arrived disappointedly cold. No one ate their meals. The appetizers were good, and what little we tasted of the dinner was bland- especially the burger. The staff showed little concern for our dissatisfaction. Overall, it was a frustrating and unsatisfying dining experience.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. I had the duck and it was so tender. Our server was lovely and met our needs very well. Highly recommend having dinner or even an intimate drink at the bar. Missing one star because it was very warm in the dining room and they couldn't lower the air. It was a cold night so I understand cranking the heat, but the thermostat was right behind our table and the temperature read 78 degrees F. That's a little too warm lol

Yelp
Ambiance is a 10/10. We went for our anniversary dinner and it was quiet (5:30 PM on Friday), intimate, and classy. Staff was prompt and professional; our waiter provided us with complimentary champagne and took our photos to celebrate the occasion. Appreciated the interesting twist on fried chicken to elevate it to a classy meal! My personal favorite part of the night was being served dessert with a happy anniversary message on it -- and it was scrumptious.

Cathy J.

Yelp
What a beautiful, warm and elegant place! The food is incredible and the service is just as good! Breakfast and dinner absolutely fabulous!! Such a wonderful place to celebrate and create lifelong memories. Definitely, our favorite spot in Newport.

Yelp
First time we have ever been to The Vanderbilt. We came to celebrate our Anniversary. The dining room was beautiful, quite (though we found out that we where there before the dinner rush) and comfortable. Where we sat was liking at a beautiful bar area. The food was good, small menu, and the drinks where unique. One of the staff was nice enough to let us know about the rooftop bar. That was the highlight of the evening. The views are beautiful! This is a special occasion place for me, but it was worth the trip.
google avatar

Kellie D.

Yelp
Such an elegant room. The service here was ridiculous- they moved our table to a better spot - we were happy were we where but when a corner booth opened up they asked if we wanted to move to a nicer seat! Between the table side cocktails, shrimp pasta yumminess, and the desserts...we were in heaven! What a great experience. We will not only come back here for dinner but will stay at this dog friendly beautiful hotel. The front desk was funny and charming and chatted to us while we waited for our Uber (friends with her now on yelp!) can't wait to come back!

Yelp
My wife and I visited The Vanderbilt Grille for our 10th wedding anniversary, just before the world came to a halt in March. We've been to the rooftop bar many times before and love the building. If you haven't been, the building is a boutique hotel. The bar is a hidden gem, and it boasts a view of Newport Harbor. When we arrived, two friendly hotel staff immediately welcomed us. We actually wanted to go up the bar to see the harbor at sunset, but it was closed. They suggested we enjoy the fireplace and offered to bring drinks over. It was a charming sitting area and featured the makings of s'mores, which we eyed for after dinner. After proceeding to the restaurant, we had plenty of privacy in the dining area, which was quiet, particularly early in the evening. The Vanderbuilt's menu is diverse, but not expansive. We chose the "wine and dine" three-course special menu. We each had a amazing soup of the day, in this case a carrot basil soup. It was fresh, light and flavorful. We also shared crispy brussels sprouts with pomegranate seeds, which were fantastic. For dinner, my wife chose the salmon, which was served with spiced braised lentils, carrot, mint and lemon yogurt. It was done perfectly and nicely presented. I had the mushroom risotto with winter truffles and shaved parmesan. It too was delicious. For dessert, we both chose the skillet s'mores (something we'd usually share). It was awesome and featured brownies, vanilla ice cream, honey marshmallow, salted caramel and chocolate sauce. We're so glad we visited The Vanderbilt Grille. We're looking forward to returning!

Yelp
Inspired to dine at The Vanderbilt as a conclusion to our book club read this month, this hotel and restaurant deserves nothing less than five stars. Upon walking into the Vanderbilt, I feel like I'm transported in history to the early 1900's. We were seated in a sitting room, where we could read the history of why it was built. We ordered off of the small bites menu and everything was incredible. From the appetizer spoon, to the most perfectly cooked cheeseburger with the side salad, to a perfectly frothed cappuccino and a delectable caramel molten cake for dessert, I truly felt like I was dining like a Vanderbilt. The food has to be the best I've had in Newport as of date. After dining, we were given a small tour of special areas in the building lead by the very knowledgeable Zachary. He truly made our experience memorable in going the extra mile explaining the history of the building itself, even prior to the Vanderbilt's owning it. This will definitely be on the list to bring my husband for date night!

Yelp
Three of us had a swell meal on Christmas Eve. The revamped hotel is showing well. Service was exemplary. We were seated next to the window and it was a bit drafty but fortunately we were able to move to a cozier table. Prix fixe menu at $125/head. Amuse bouche - caviar and creme fraiche tartlet Lobster bisque Pan-roasted scallops Duck breast Upside-down cake. All were tasty. Only gaffe was the scallops that came out at best lukewarm. Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Value 3/5 (average) Cleanliness 5/5 Noise 3/5 (a lively holiday crowd) Decor 4/5 Damages with cocktails and Australian shiraz and holiday tip and tax was $800. Recommended.

Yelp
We had a great experience here. There was a warm welcome from the hostess and manager upon arrival. We sat in the lounge and were attended to right away to have a drink and wait for our table to be ready. The drinks are amazing and the bartender visited us and recreated a favorite drink that wasn't on the menu to perfection. The food was delicious but I'm going back for the amazing service, moody atmosphere, and drinks! I can't wait to experience this place in the summer. Kudos to the manager that kept checking in with us you can tell they care about their customers!

Yelp
MY wife and I went here for the first time to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We had a fabulous time. The staff were attentive but not overly so. Our waiter made us feel at home and made us laugh a lot. Food was fabulous and not as expensive as I perceived it would be. Downsides 1. Check in was not so good. No onsite parking and no real direction from anyone to tell you where to go if you are only eating there. This is the first point of contact that a new customer sees and it needs some work. I really felt that if you were there for dining only, you were not as valued as a guest of the hotel. 2. Drinks were also first rate BUT the drinks were expensive. Most cocktails were $20 or more. Not the same value as the food served. Would go again. Would have got 5 stars if it weren't for the check in process

Yelp
This was my second time dining here in the last month. Absolutely fabulous ! My server Cindy was attentive, sweet and went out of her way to make sure all my needs were met. Beautiful , cozy and quiet dining room. Can't say enough . And..... delicious lunch ! THANK YOU Cindy

Yelp
Love love loved everything about this experience. Great wine list, great atmosphere, wonderful kind service, and it was an experience. Not just a food eating event. The food was wonderful. Only complaint is my main dish was cold. I should have sent it back... but I didn't. It would have been so much better hot! The appetizer and the dessert were delicious. Thank goodness for Newport restaurant week! We were guests at the hotel but they let us close out tab a take a glass onto the back patio to enjoy before we departed and walked to the park to people watch. A good day. Bravo. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Yelp
My husband, our son and I had reservations for afternoon tea, when we arrived the hostess was nowhere to be found, so the bartender sat us. Once the hostess showed back up maybe 10 minutes later we could hear her giving the bartender a hard time for stepping up to the plate in her absence. From there it took over 20 minutes to get water and menus these came from a waiter serving another section that noticed we were being ignored. From there the service was pretty slow and inattentive. The tea itself was okay but not the best in the Newport area. Overall what should have been a nice day around the holidays turned it's a disappointment.

Yelp
I planned my sisters bachelorette a few months in advance and landed on here for a dinner Friday night. I worked with Jared and Sarah etc to make the reservation and followed up with them about what menu would be available. Compared to the other restaurant I was dealing with, Vanderbilt was a breeze in comparison. The plan was to have dinner on the rooftop, but maybe the conservatory or garden area as backups. Fast forward to the DAY OF, a few hours before our reservation, and I get a call from Sarah cancelling our din reservation for 11 girls due to emergency construction on the rooftop... not only had I planned this din a few months out, but where was I going to get a last min res for such a large group?!! She mentioned she tried a few places and they couldn't take us so sorry- cue a huge anxiety attack- thanks. Called them back and insisted we can dine in the garden which was a backup plan, and she was like oh ok that works! But why panic me beforehand then? The garden actually turned out just fine, besides another surprise- totally diff menu than what I was sent prior.. but we were outdoors, near heat lamps, and it seemed semi private, and right by the pool. Service was pretty weak.. we were waiting for quite a bit and I had to reorder my drink quite a few times (don't want to know if I was charged for extra drinks as a result). One redeeming thing was the waitress gave us a dessert for the bride-to-be. I really wanted to experience the rooftop but will not be returning after this debacle if I'm in Newport again.

Yelp
A solid destination for afternoon tea. The service was themed for this year's Pantone color. My husband made reservations ahead of time and requested arrangements for my current dietary restrictions. Unfortunately I wasn't able to enjoy the menu I've attached pictures of so I can't speak to it. We arrived on a rainy and cold off-season Tuesday and were led back to the four season porch. We literally had the place to ourselves. I love off-season travel... We fully expected to have to remind the server about the food restrictions but there was no need, when we spoke up he said that a separate tea service was already being prepared! I chose the rooibos and hubby chose the Darjeeling but they graciously served the themed tea alongside our choices and I'm so glad they did, I preferred that to my pick. Soft jazz playing in the background, delectable tea sandwiches, electric blue tea in dainty cups, and no other company save for my lovely spouse. A girl couldn't ask for more.

Yelp
"My Fair Lady: The Musical" is QUAKING at the amazing afternoon tea at the Vanderbilt! We had a "loverly" time attending today at a tea that would make Victorian London society proud! Before we even sit down to discuss the fabulousness that is the tea itself, we gotta talk about the restaurant. Situated primly inside the Vanderbilt Hotel, a building that dates back to 1909 (!!!), is the Vanderbilt Grill, the full service restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon high tea, and dinner to sophisticated guests and locals who are in the know about this unique, hidden spot. Yes, that's right! You don't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a room to eat here. In fact, the afternoon tea packages are some of the best deals in town! The non-alcoholic package, which we ordered, is $19 per person, and includes a pot of artisanal tea for each guest, plus a delish selection of sweets and savories. For $30, you can upgrade to enjoy your choice of a mimosa, bellini, or sparkling wine along with a couple of next-level treats, like hand dipped chocolate covered strawberries! Compared to the prices at some of the fancy New York or even Providence hotel teas, this is cheap! But the quality sure isn't! Tea is served daily from 12-3 PM either in the Conservatory Room, which has a wall of glass windows that overlook the secluded garden patio outside, or in the garden (weather permitting), where you can sip tea surrounded by a tranquil fountain and a multitude of flowering plants. Both spots are absolutely gorgeous, as is the entire hotel, and no matter where you go, be sure to have your camera ready for the Instagram-friendly surroundings! As for the tea, even though we went with the simpler of the two package offerings, it surely didn't skimp on quality or quantity of what was presented! After sitting down, we were presented a darling wooden box filled with loose leaf teas that we could choose from for our personal teapot. I went with the fruity Mountain Berry tea, but all of them looked tempting. The teas are from the Tealeaves brand, and being the tea geek that I am, I've already investigated their website for future purchases! I loved how the tea was brought to the table piping hot and steeped to the correct amount. Nothing can ruin a tea party more than leaving your tea leaves or bag in the pot for too long and having a bitter or sour cup of tea. Not so at the Vanderbilt - my tea was perfect, with the bold flavors of strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries in each comforting sip. The culinary offerings were a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach! Snacky things were presented beautifully on a three-tiered tray, each layer more tantalizing than the last! Even though the sweet and savory treats were mostly petit-four size, I found them to be filling and fresh. The scones were light and fluffy, served with double cream (the heavenly intersection of butter and whipped cream - thanks, Brits!) and house made raspberry jam that had pleasing notes of citrus to jazz up the spread. Layer two brought more sweetness in the form of fudgy chocolate cake, mini oatmeal raisin cookies, and lemon-strawberry tarts, which were a welcome refreshment on a hot August afternoon. Finally, the savory layer (which was my favorite) featured cucumber, cream cheese, and smoked salmon tea sandwiches and the best lobster salad tartlets I've EVER had. I don't even like lobster salad, and here I was, shoveling them in like there was no tomorrow. It was very pre-Higgins Eliza Doolittle, but I don't care! I can't believe I've lived on the island for this long and have never attended high tea at the Vanderbilt. It's a super fun, affordable, and adorable way to spend a special afternoon with friends (or just yourself!), and you shouldn't miss it if you're in Newport!

Yelp
This is the THE BEST bar in Newport. The atmosphere is spot-on modern elegant, but what makes this a 5-STAR EXPERIENCE is the bartender, Logan. Ask him anything about the drink menu, the hotel or Newport and he has the answer. I had the best cocktail I have ever had - THE DREAM MAKER. I never knew cocktail ingredients could work together so well. I have had meals that knocked me off my feet before but never a cocktail. The experience would not have come close to being as good if it were not for Logan. A Nick & Nora glass - who knew how much that could add to the drink experience. Logan knew, that's who.

Yelp
The night started out with parking; I pulled up to the front, and it said valet was included for guests... no one was outside. It wasn't till 20 minutes after the fact of me circling around the area looking for public parking that we called and someone finally came outside. Once we were seated it was totally not what we expected from the pictures. We were sat on the patio in wicker chairs with horrible lighting. Uncomfortable lawn chairs, and the only lights in the room were 4 lamps, one in each corner of the room. We sat against the wall right next to the fire alarm. Service, was lackluster. Waitress never lit our candles or any candles for that matter. Food, was alright but most definitely not worth the money. Three course meal was $95 dollars, a small soup and lobster tail and a small dessert. The lobster tail was intact so small that it could've been mistaken for a jumbo shrimp, and was not excellent tasting by any means. In summary, between my wife and I our total was $260... I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money but I do not recommend spending $95 per person to eat a shrimp sized lobster tail in the dark in a wicker patio chair.

Yelp
The day after Labor Day in Newport when it is time to return and not face large crowds and traffic. Spent the afternoon in antique and specialty shops. On the way back to the car we decided to check the Vanderbilt. We passed by it several times during the years but never stopped in. We entered and were greeted by Jose who very graciously showed us around and the took us to the rooftop bar. We stayed for a cocktail and it was wonderful. The view was spectacular, cocktails were tasty and the bar staff very friendly. Bar is open according to weather- we hope to stop in again before the cold weather.

Yelp
Don't bother...We went for Christmas. Yes, the inside is lovely, but the food was not very tasty. There was a good wait for each serving to arrive. I got the meat which was full of fat. We didn't much choice for the meals either. We will not be back.

Yelp
This was my first time to eat here. I was here only once for cocktails on their roof bar during warmer weather with some great views of the harbor. Today, I was here with my family of five for the $82 Christmas Day 3-course prix fixe dinner. We had a dinner reservation. We were seated immediately at the center table. I started with my Old Fashion special cocktail for only $10. It tasted great. They also served us a complimentary fresh cranberry cocktail made with wine. It was a nice touch. We also enjoyed a bottle of red wine. See my pics for my wine label. As you can also see from my pics I enjoyed with my squab appetizer and Chilean Sea Bass, which was cooked to perfection (it was moist as I prefer) and was clean tasting. We ended with their dessert buffet. I love a good moist rice pudding. I was disappointed with their rice pudding, which was very dry and not sweet enough. Although I am not a dessert person, I was not impressed by their dessert buffet. I thought this place was over-priced for what you got although I know it was Christmas Day and not so many restaurants were open for dinner. The wait service here was good. I will probably return here again to give them a second chance on a normal day and not a holiday.

Yelp
I'm only giving two stars because this place was beautiful and the service was great. I went to brunch for a special occasion and it was nothing special. You're paying for the name and the beautify of the place, which I understand, but the food did not match up. Everything was so overpriced for what you get. I got eggs Benedict and they were $24, no sides which is understandable for a place like this, but they were so boring. My first drink was the Belcourt, it was very good and unlike any drink I've had before. My second was an espresso martini and it was the worst one I've ever had. Maybe the espresso was burnt, it was just not good. All the other orders at my table were so generic looking and also nothing special. I would find another brunch place in the future. Their other offers and meals did look good on the website and reviews.

Yelp
Came for lunch to go after the parade! It was gorgeous out so we are our lunch by the outdoor fire. Jennifer, Amanda and Marecil were fabulous! Food was amazing! Environment was amazing! Drinks were good. Prices very reasonable.

Yelp
My wife and I had Thanksgiving dinner at the Vanderbilt, priced at 120.00 per person. What a Hugh disappointment. We service was a absolute joke, butter and rolls were served , No silverware, server now where to be found, 25 minutes before soup appetizer was served , no spoons. When the turkey dinner arrived , it was cold, it had obviously sat in the kitchen for some time. The problem with this restaurant is management , and a complete lack of training . I did express my complaints to the general manager before leaving, and after our discussion I completely understand why this restaurant is a one star Train Wreck.

Yelp
This hotel is classy and lively! Service is professional! The hotel is going through a renovation, but still clean and in an excellent location!

Yelp
I can count on one hand the amount of times I've had a chicken dish that I've been like "WOW! That's impressive!" - two of them have been in the past month at Vanderbilt Grace. I absolutely hate mushrooms but that Morel gravy is literally the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. After having it the first time, I said to myself "surely, it can't be THAT good, it's just the 3 Watermelon Sugar martinis you had before eating, talking..." then it plagued my dreams for 3 weeks. I returned today to discover - YES. IT. IS. THAT. GOOD. I'm always impressed with the level of knowledge and professionalism from the staff - but this summer the basic chicken is absolutely blowing my mind. I was so sad when they took the filet off the menu, but I swear the chicken is absolutely on par with some of the best steaks I've had.

Yelp
First of all, walking into this historic hotel is an experience in itself. The dining room looks like an old library and is very intimate. The bar is the focal point of the room and makes the whole experience very unique. We tried several of the specialty cocktails which were amazing. The food is excellent and the staff is great. I highly recommend this as an adventure in dining in Newport. Do not forget to take in the rooftop bar at sunset. We didn't realize it was there while eating dinner and came back another night to experience it. So glad we did.
