The Dogwood

This was a neat classy bar in midtown. First time going, I liked the easthetic, music was not loud and the rooftop has a great view to the Houston Skyline. Not crowded when I visited on a Friday. Service was fast and they got a good selection of beers. Limited parking like pretty much anything in the area.

My favorite spot of the places my family and I went to downtown. It was a little slower and I was able to hold a conversation without the music drowning me out. Definitely a fun little environment that's not going overboard. Not shoulder to shoulder and not terribly loud. Great views a nice staff.

It's a great midtown bar with good food and music. I came here to hear JB sing and enjoy tostada night. A few whiskey and sodas outside in midtown are not a bad way to spend the evening. The upstairs area is very neat. It was closed on a Tuesday, which makes sense if it's not busy enough to pull double staff and floors. If you're in the area or reasonably close by, The Dogwood is a must visit. I keep seeing these people with less than 5 reviews claiming they were profiled, I haven't seen anything like that. We have black and hispanics in our party regularly and never caught even a whiff of attitude. I'm guessing some folks acted foolishly, got called out and don't like it.

Overall it was good vibes! 😁 Great beer selection and on Sunday the miller lite 🪣 was $14. Music was a good mix! 😁. Food selection wasn't unique but tasted good! Need to try other things. Will be making a return to try their brunch menu! Good area to walk around and visit different places.

We had a great time! Awesome selection of drinks, very clean and welcoming. Friendly service. All the workers had their masks on. We will definitely come back

Amazing spot to host an event and have a great time with an awesome view. Workers are super professional and quick to respond around the clock. Bartenders are great and their event coordinator, Cassandra, is amazing. Love this place and would recommend it to everyone.

so damn good. anytime were near by we feel the need to come grab a compote pizza. TRUST. this pizza is the best damn pizza youre gonna have. Deal breaker type. if you like spicy add jalapeños

The dogwood is a great spot for happy hour. The location is prime for waiting out the Houston traffic. The prices and the drink selection are really good as well. The service in the ambience of the Dogwood was great that night, however, the food was a little bland, especially the chicken tenders and gravy.

Who's open at 12 on a Saturday , well dogwood is and I appreciate them for it. It was peak game time so the place was filled with fans and everyone enjoying a drink and laugh. There's a small interior bar as well but it wasn't open just yet. I ventured upstairs to check out the view from the second floor and it also features another indoor area that had a few games to play as well. Overall this stop was a win for me.

*Disclaimer*My rating is mainly on the food and the ambiance of Dogwood on a Monday night. I understand that the vibes are completely different on the weekends I came on a Monday evening for a friend's birthday meetup. I parked on the street using the meter parking which only lets you pay for 2 hours at a time ($1.50/hour). The bar wasn't packed at all like it would be on the weekends and they were also showing the Astros game. We sat upstairs and there was hip hop music playing (I think the bartender can control the music upstairs). I got two glasses of Jameson and Lemonade from the happy hour menu. They were okay but I didn't think they were strong at all. I also ordered chicken and waffles sliders and I was VERY DISAPPOINTED! It looked so good but had ABSOLUTELY NO FLAVOR! the chicken breast was not seasoned AT ALL! So you're basically just eating a waffle with plain chicken. Overall the bartender was nice and the vibes were cool but I'm not sure I would order food next time.

This establishment is receiving one star for multiple reasons. First,the bouncers were blatantly discriminatory & racist. Second,the eating utensils were filthy... Thirdly, the food was disgusting, but that was expected considering my experience until that point. Overall, don't waste your time or money.

Great Service and Drinks! Located in downtown central area and free meter parking on Sunday. The wings look and smell good but didn't order any food light brunch menu.

This place was awesome! The view from the top was beautiful I loved the atmosphere the food was amazing! The staff was super friendly and the bar tender was amazing drinks were on point. Will be back soon

My friend and I popped in at The Dogwood for Happy Hour to check it out after a friend of hers recommended it. The place looked large with several indoor and outdoor areas, but for the most part, there weren't many people there: Fortunately, the indoor area was air conditioned, while lots of natural light poured into the many windows. It's a bit "unpolished industrial garage-ish" in decor, intentionally so, with two full bars, which, I imagine, would be convenient when this place is packed. One thing that was annoying the entire time we were there is the sleeves of my shirt kept sticking to the table. Sticky tables... ick. As for the food, I ordered the tater tots, because the description sounded good. While the tots themselves were delicious, the bacon pieces tasted very "off" as though they'd been cooked in rancid oil, and I had to spit the pieces out. On the other end of the spectrum, the Texas BBQ Burger was absolutely outrageously delicious! Our server was very friendly and perfectly attentive. Would I return? Probably not, simply because it's just not my vibe... but I just might try to get that burger again. I wonder if they DoorDash? :)

Rudest waitress I have even dealt with in my life! I came in tonight 8/7/24 to order some food to go, the very cool security guard pointed to the bar, I sat down and waited 10 mins before the waitress decided to walk down from where she was having with what I assume her friends seated and asked me in a dry manner if she could help me, the look on her face was crazy, like was mad that she had to help me instead of talking to here of friends! Now I was the only black person at the bar, I literally watched her check on every single person sitting there besides me, I'm all about great service and the color of my skin should not effect how I'm treated! I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AND IF YOUR AFRICAN AMERICAN YOU PROBABLY SHOULD STAY AWAY TOO UNLESS YOU LIKE HORRIBLE SERVICE

Came here on a Monday night for Happy Hour and it was a pretty good experience. Service was okay, food was pretty good. Not sure if I'll be back if I'm not bar hopping in the area, but overall it was an okay evening. Parking isn't bad. We came during happy hour so it wasn't too busy. Super easy to find parking. Street parking is free in the area after 6pm so I parked across the street and downloaded the app to pay until 6. It wasn't busy at all when my friends and I dropped in, maybe four or five other groups dining in so I was super surprised when I walked in and my friends said they hadn't been helped in a while. When the waitress came and took our order, we ordered two Dog Flowers and a Southern Lemonade and Sweet Potater Tots for the table. The tots were SOO good! They had the perfect amount of sweetness and paired perfectly with the ranch they offered on the side for dipping. Definitely order them if you're here! To eat I had the Chicken & Waffle Sliders and my friends had the Vegetarian Quesadillas & Burger with a salad. The Chicken & Waffles Sliders were decent, not something I would order if I came back, but they did the trick for the evening. My friends really enjoyed their food and not much was left when our waitress finally came back to retrieve our plates. The drinks were good. Nice and strong, but I feel they were missing some flavor considering they were cocktails. If I come back I'll probably order something not on the cocktail menu because I wasn't too impressed. Not sure how service works here, but after finishing our meals, we just went to the bar to pay because our waitress never really came back to give us our checks. Not sure if that's how it's intended to be or if she forgot about us but by the time we finished eating, only a few other small groups had come to dine in so I was surprised to see her not as attentive as I would've liked. Not sure if I'll be back due to lack of service, but the food wasn't too bad.

Wanted to hang out here with my friends but we were turned away because someone had on high top Jordan sneakers. We peeked inside and saw patrons with high top converse, unbranded shoes, high top Addis's, and a large seat of other sneakers but weren't allowed to enter because they were Jordan's? I asked for the rationale and they told me there was none. It was just company policy. Without proper rationale it seems this policy is racially targeted because one group of people wear Jordan's at a disproportional rates. Terrible experience. Won't be back.

Imagine going out and wearing a cute dress. Imagine going upstairs and dropping something and realizing the floor is glass and everyone can see up your dress. Imagine getting the wrong order. Like completely wrong. Like ordering a vegetarian quesadilla and then getting a meat quesadilla. Imagine biting into it and then getting an upset stomach and diarrhea because you accidentally ate meat. Managers came to mend the situation.

My husband asked for Crown and it wasn't Crown. My husband is an avid Crown drinker and can tell the difference and the bartender said I was attacking her when we questioned her. When ordering you better ask for a beer, that's probably the only thing they can't falsify.

tried to discreetly tell the bartender i didn't need anymore to drink and instead of making me something that looked the same as what my group had she just gave me a straight up shot of regular redbull when the drink man was buying mexican candy

Great, fun atmosphere and the DJ is fire! Extensive vodka selection... too bad I'm a tequila and bourbon drinker but I made do lol!

I regret to give even 1 star! About 10 friends and I visited this bar. To my disbelief the this place is unapologetically rude and racist. I saw people of color get kicked out. A friend in my group got kicked out. I ordered drinks for my friends and I and as I'm waiting at the bar neither the female or male bartender said anything. Literally over looked us until there was no one else to serve. Just looked at me not a single word when I ordered my drink. As I am waiting on the drinks I was talking with my friends, when the drinks were ready the bartender first words were "you need to hurry up and give me your card, I have people to serve" I was absolutely astonished at how rude he was. I informed him that I will not be accepting the drinks from him. He threw the drinks out called the security to have us put out. The female bartender was so damn nasty. As we were walking away she swatted at us! Absolutely disgusting racist people! I don't see how anyone would even want to work for this company!

Wow! Never experienced being racially profiled (at least to my knowledge) until last night. Us, a group of brown and black people walked up to the side door. We didn't even get all the way up the steps when he (white skinny male with long beard) told us he couldn't let us in. I got all way the way up the stairs and was really taken back by it. I asked why. He said my friend looked drunk. I looked back and she was on Snapchat. Apparently she tripped as well and I didn't see it. He told us he couldn't let us in because of that. My friend had literally... and I mean LITERALLY just got out of an Uber to meet up with us and what girl doesn't trip on the jagged roads of Houston!!! I'm sorry but you could us better judgement. That was just stupid. Not only that me and a friend came back around to talk to the guy and he was doing the same to another group of Hispanics. When I asked that girl why they weren't let in she told me because she was on SNAPCHAT!! like what???!! So mad at this place because they play hip hop and r&b, it's a lot of minorities that go there so they obviously just WANT OUR MONEY. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Walked into this place on a Wednesday to have some drinks with friends who were visiting - wish I could give a zero but it's not an option. Wouldn't serve us because we were "too drunk" after they asked our friends what they wanted even though we had no drinks prior to entry. We have been here before and will never come back because of this experience.

A nice open air spot in midtown good for some drinks or watching a game. It is EXTREMELY loud though so conversations will be difficult. Upstairs is a little quieter but still very loud and boasts good views downtown. I enjoy mixing different combinations of Deep Eddy here and so far my favorite is mixing the Deep Eddy Sweet Tea and lemonade!

Great experience! Fun atmosphere, friendly staff, and clean facilities. Had a blast chatting, dancing, and meeting new people. The music was a bit old, pretty much just 2000-2010 throwbacks. Still an awesome time!

This place has remarkable food and the restaurant layout is pretty amazing too. I had to host a work event here for about 35 people and Cassandra really helped elevate our meeting to the next level. She was always responsive, courteous and took care of us from start to finish. The room upstairs had a mic and podium we used during the meeting and we used all of the TVs to display our presentation. I highly recommend this place. If your lucky maybe the co- owner who was formally on The Bachelor will stop by

I would never recommend this place to anyone. I was there with a group of friends on 11/5 when an assault took place involving their own staff. I have tried to contact them various different ways and have not even had so much as an acknowledgment to what took place. I have no doubt the bouncer involved in the assault is still working for them since I have not been informed otherwise. I attached a copy of the email I sent on 11/6. I have received no response.

For a SPORTS BAR I was shocked when I was turned away because I had on high top sneakers. Luckily I had a pair of air force ones in my car and didn't have to go back to my house to change, so I went back to my car and got the Air Force ones and then came into the bar(See the pictures below) I'm not sure the reasoning behind this asinine dress code in a sports bar. However they seem to be already suffering the consequences of their business practices as there was a World Series game on last night and the bar was probably only at 40% capacity. Meanwhile around the block the bars were packed. It's a shame because it is a pretty nice place food was pretty good but clearly people shy away for a reason. I hesitate to say they are racist because they hold the same standards to everybody that walked in but it seems somewhat clear that they're trying to keep a certain culture out of there. Just didn't really get a good vibe from the place.

I have been attending The Dogwood for nearly 2 years. As I was celebrating my graduation from college, the Dogwood bouncer told me to step away from the bar around 1:00 am because "I wasn't ordering drinks", although, I had been spending money since 9:30. As I complied with his orders, he aggressively threw me out the bar (I did not restrain) and proceeded to push and shove me until I was off the property, although I just ordered a drink. The staff is overly aggressive, especially when it comes to the flow of customers. I had been a long time customer for years but after this experience, they have lost a long-time customer and all of my acquaintance's business.

Today we went to Dogwood for the 100th time and for the first time were denied entry due to footwear at 7:15 pm. The bouncer asked my boyfriend what type of sneakers were on his feet and he replied Jordans. And he was denied. The bouncer was adamant these were not his rules but just of the owners. Just to be clear athletic sneakers were allowed but Jordans are not. These shoes were not any less appropriate than anything we saw in the bar: flip flops, Sperrys, Vans, Nikes, Oasics but somehow Jordan sneakers were a forbidden shoe. Unfortunately, this type of loose policy may be construed as a discriminatory practice. Jordan's= athletic footwear Dogwood, what exactly is your policy?

Love the Dogwood. Plenty of standing / sitting space even on busy nights. The vibe is a typical midtown bar scene. Plenty of bathrooms on both floors. Food is pretty good too during the day. Bartenders are very nice.

I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed myself. Good is "Meh" but atmosphere makes up for it. Diego is a great bartender and I will recommend him every time! Great spot for a quick Sunday mimosa grab.

Love the open air concept of Dogwood. Two story with plenty of outdoor seating (especially upstairs). It gets extremely crowded Friday and Saturdays nights, and it takes forever to order drinks - which are very over priced btw. It gets so crowded that there's no moving room. Would recommend coming on weekdays for HH or Sunday Funday though. They have good Sunday specials. From what I remember it was $5 Deep Eddy's and $1 mimosas or $1 off all other drinks. Service is quick during the day, but any time I've gone on the weekend the service sucks and the bartenders seem so frazzled by the crowd and they're rude. Knocked off two stars because the bouncers were extremely racist to my friends. I came with a group of Asians and the girls were let in but they told the guys that it was max capacity then immediately let in a group of 6 Caucasian males. Clearly being racist there. All in all - wouldn't really come back here. Plenty of better bars in the area.

Good drinks Good food Nice place to hang out and enjoy the breeze. Yesterday it felt San Diego on the second floor. Had a few drinks. Got the trio appetizer. Salsa was okay. Queso was actually the best. Chips were like out of a bag. The drinks were strong. Will def go back. Parking kind of sucks.

Explain why females can wear Jordan's but males can't. Why they didn't check a woman's purse but will check a male with a Fanny pack. The disrespect is indescribable. When we pointed out the fact that a female can wear THE SAME EXACT SHOE we get escorted to the police. Would not let my friend in cause he has hand tattoos and it was after 9pm. The tattoo is of a microphone cause he works on the radio. I'm not sure what the importance of 9pm is but that is what the bouncer told him.

Good views for the outdoor bar, but it comes with watered down drinks and bad service.

The Dogwood has a prime location going for it, I'll give you that. Located in the heart of Midtown, Dogwood is always super packed on a Friday or Saturday night. It's an open-air concept with a downstairs area and an upstairs area but it still gets super packed. It takes a while to get a drink and you're packed like sardines. There's nothing bad about Dogwood but nothing that really stands out. I might like it more if it were less hectic. And if the weather was nice. They also have a location in Austin.

In town for the week and looking for new places.....the website made this place look great, interesting, good food, wonderful view. Made our way to the midtown location only to find that parking is nonexistent, sort of. It was pouring rain and the 'lot' next to the Dogwood was marked as Specs Parking only. Okay, but Specs was a block away with a massive parking lot of its own. No worries, we figured park and check with the staff to see if it really would be okay. Reminder, pouring rain. We walked into the Dogwood and were told "no, we couldn't park there"...understandable, so we asked where we COULD park.....were told 'across the street in that lot, but it is closed because of the rain'. So Dogwood became DogWouldn't. Couldn't park, couldn't have a drink, couldn't have a bite to eat. Didn't feel welcome, won't come back.

I walked up to the bar and the female bartender took my order I said I wanted two ultras and asked if there was any way I could get a wine bc I'm trying to be a little healthier and she said no she's too busy and I just said ok and took the beers for my friends and walked further down and Ronnie took my order instantly and I saw a open bottle of wine so asked him if I could get a glass and he gladly gave me one. Really appreciate Ronnie and will come back just bc of his service. I've been a bartender for over 10 years. I get it and I'm patient. Idc if I have 10 people ordering drinks, I'll make 10 shots and take drink orders. So I really appreciate Ronnie for being so cool and taking care of me! You're awesome.

I've been coming here for years to air out my toes. Nice breeze. Stiff drinks. Lots of TVs. All around great experience!

I'll start with the positives.... -I love the layout of this bar! Especially the upstairs, which offers a great view of downtown. -The drinks are good and reasonably priced. -I also love that there is a lot of seating. The negatives.... -Blatantly discriminatory and racist. -Purposely refuses to play certain songs for fear of attracting minorities (even though everyone loves rap/hip hop in 2016). -ever changing dress code that isn't consistent Example.....//I came to Dogwood with my cousins about a month ago. I stopped coming here for various reasons last year but they like it so I joined in. We entered the bar and sat upstairs. We were having a great time with each other. Taking rounds of shots, dancing and taking pictures. One of my cousins decided to go to the car, I think to get his hookah pen. When he returned, they refused to let him in. MIND YOU, we have already been here about two hours. He lets them know that he's been here and has a tab open upstairs. The bouncers tell him, they don't care. He's not up to dress code. His attire: Coral fitted pants (yes coral), a fitted Ralph Lauren short with boat looking type shoes. He gets agitated and walks past them to close his tab and alert us its time to go. Of course the bouncers get very angry. Thankfully, the bartender is coming down the stairs and sees the exchange. He separates my cousin and bouncers and tells them he's good. They get an attitude but the bartender tells them "he's spending money, dressed better than me, he's good. Plus he has a tab." They say alright and my cousin and bartender return upstairs. Bartender apologizes but he didn't do anything wrong. So thanks Dogwood, you truly solidified my decision to not come here EVER AGAIN. I've never been disrespected personally until you treated my cousin like shit. I stopped coming here previously because I couldn't walk in comfortable, after witnessing how mean your bouncers treat people. At some point, you have to realize Houston is a melting pot of all cultures. Money is money. You can establish your preferred customer base, without treating people like they're unworthy.

I love coming to dogwood however it is my second choice if I come to Houston. The prices are not terrible but not a deal either. The atmosphere is good the bartenders are ok and the crowd is very diverse. If your looking for a good time you will have it here but maybe end the night here not start.

Amazing service! Bartenders are amazing and food is delicious. The live music is also another great thing about this spot. Always a great time! A thanks to Mel and Jon for making the experience so much better.

Ummm...do nt like it! Some perv told me right off the bat that he is endowed if i am interested. Five minutes later, when the rest of my group are there, he tried to join us and told them he is interested in me...no manner. He got the stern grandma looks and scattered away. Five minutes after that someone punch his light out because apparently he does the same thing to someone else's gf. What a crude collection of oddities! Problem was, the fight is right at the stair so we were stuck there until the security/cops hauls these brawling bunch out. Dont like the place.

I checked out the Dogwood recently and had a great time. This place has an amazing view of downtown Houston! When sitting outside on the rooftop, you can see a beautiful view of all the skyscrapers, especially at night. They have a covered area with plenty of seating downstairs as well as scarce seating upstairs. Their beers were pretty standard with regards to selection, taste, and price. They also have a raspberry mule that is to die for! If I come back, that will definitely be what I order!

I liked the relaxed atmosphere of the place, the view and the awesome service we got. Loved their playlists. Will be coming back.

They didn't let me into the bar bc I was wearing an oversized shirt and some shorts shorts. They also laughed at me as I walked away. Very homophobic and disgusting. Will tell everyone I know about the disgusting practices this bar likes to do and tell them to never come to this place.

Came here for New Years with a small group and it was a good time. The Dogwood is pretty spacious and the view of the city from the upstairs patio is beautiful. It was chilly on NYE but at least the bar had plenty of heaters around! Additionally, it wasn't even suffocatingly crowded! I can't say the drinks were anything spectacular; I had a G&T and there was definitely more G in it than T...and I didn't end up liking the gin. Nonetheless, it was a lively atmosphere and we made the most of our time there.
