The East Devon Hideaway, Axminster, UK - Explore & Book

"It's a dream of many to leave behind the hectic city life and retreat to the peaceful serenity of the Great British countryside. But few are as determined as i-escape fans Rob and Catherine. They fell in love with the Blackdown Hills and found a property they loved so much that they went to bid for it not once but three times before they won. With this same enthusiasm and focus, they set about renovating the farmhouse and the old cow byre to create two exceptional separate spaces to rent as restorative country retreats, so you too can join them in escaping to the country. Couples (plus one child) can stay in the Cottage, a deeply romantic and beautifully restored old cow shed overlooking its own wildflower meadow. Inside, it's light and airy, with a high-spec open-plan living space, a galley kitchen and a double bedroom. Outside, a superb wooden deck overlooks the meadow. From June to September, you can hire the main Farmhouse for up to 10 adults and 2 children. This 16th-century, Grade II-listed building brims with history, all oak beams, huge open fireplaces, and a beautiful carved Tudor mantel. Fun fact: there's been a house on this very site since the times of the Domesday Book! Today's incarnation comprises five beautiful bedrooms with long countryside views, a garden filled with games, a treehouse, and multiple living areas for dining and socialising. And whilst it might feel remote, you're only a short drive from local pubs and a farm shop, and the beach at Lyme Regis is an easy 20-minute drive away. Heaven in Devon. Highs A historic, beautifully restored house and separate cottage, both with wonderful views over the rolling Devon hills Delightful owners who are warm and friendly and keen for you to have a comfortable stay Located in an AONB, this is a very peaceful setting with stunning walks and hikes on the doorstep, yet Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast are only 20 minutes away All appliances are top-end, with underfloor heating in the Farmhouse kitchen and the bathrooms Lows The Farmhouse is only available from mid-June to mid-September The owners live in the Farmhouse for most of the year so they'll be on site if you're staying in the cottage, but you get complete privacy with your own private space that's not overlooked Elderly guests or those with mobility issues should be aware that the Farmhouse is set out on various levels No dogs allowed" - Kate Parsons

Bridport Hideaways, Bridport, Dorset, England - Explore & Book

"Pretty Bridport is a classically English market town, with quirky boutiques, friendly pubs and plenty of teashops. Better still, it's just a couple of km from the stunning golden beaches of West Bay on the Jurassic Coast. Come here to rummage in antique stores, admire the Georgian architecture, browse vintage bookshops, dine out on the freshest of fish and - of course - walk that world-famous coastline. Luckily for you, we've discovered Bridport's best-kept secret - a pair of delightful, centrally located boutique apartments. Owners Katie and Chris bought the building in 2016 and renovated it in serious style. A simple, elegant colour palette of greys and blues sets the scene; velvet sofas, a roll-top bath, Smeg appliances, shutters and antique books complete the picture. Both hideaways have a bedroom, bathroom and open-plan living/kitchen area, but with the excellent foodie options nearby, you won't really want to cook (although you'll leave laden down with local produce from the delis and market). Just make sure you book soon - these apartments won't stay a secret for long. Highs Ideal for a romantic weekend away - and superb valuePerfectly positioned in the centre of town, a stroll from shops, cafés and wonderful little restaurants. Plus there are festivals held here throughout the year celebrating everything from literature to hatsFantastic beds with Vi-Spring mattresses and great-quality linens, and beautiful bathrooms with mosaic-tiled floorsSet above a gorgeous vintage bookshop; perfect for souvenirsWalking the stunning Jurassic coastline Lows Weekend evenings can get noisy outside, market stalls set up early in the mornings and Bridport bustles during a festival; bring earplugs for a sound night's sleepThe owners aren't on site but there's an emergency contact numberNo private parking but there's a long-stay car park 5 minutes' walk away; you'll probably want a car to get here and do day tripsNot ideal for kids, and no dogs allowedMinimum 3 nights' stay" - Kate Parsons

We really enjoyed our stay at the Dorset Hideaway campsite in August 2025. The location is perfect – peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle, yet close enough to the lovely Lyme Regis and Charmouth with great road links. The site was spotless and well looked after, the staff were welcoming and helpful and the amenities were just what we needed. You can hire fire pits and easily organise deliveries of logs. There is a dry area with some games for the kids. Excellent value for money – we’d happily stay again! 😊

Liked: The pitch size was great, was close to water points and not too far from toilets etc. The facilities were new and very clean, although the site was pretty empty when we were there so can't comment on how busy they get. Loved the dark skies but make sure you pack a torch! The table tennis and other games in the barn are a great addition. Disliked: Not a dislike but make sure to shop en route as there's nowhere locally and that you get the gate code before arrival.

Absolutely amazing! What a hidden gem.||The experience start to finish has been exceptional. ||Booking - very high level of customer care with Esther and team. Nothing was too much trouble and the team made our yurt extra special after requesting a treat for my wife due to our wedding anniversary. Communication on day was great. Checked in with no issue, phone call taken with speed and checked in. ||The accommodation is exceptional. No3 has stunning views. Logs are supplied for fire pit and yurt is exceptionally clean. The hot tub well wow! ||Bathrooms are all clean and smell lovely.||The site is quite, relaxed and welll looked after.||This place does not deserve any bad reviews as it’s clear customer care is at the forefront of the owners. ||Thank you all we will return very soon and you made our weekend.

This was our third time staying in a geodome at Dorset Hideaways, and once again we had a lovely peaceful and relaxing time. The hot tub under the stars at night is amazing and the log burner inside made it a cosy stay. Thank you to the owners who kindly gave us a bottle of fizz and chocolates as returning customers. We will definitely be back when we need another tranquil break away!

Liked: The site was nice, we were on the big grass field at the back of the site with a water tap and electric close by. The toilet block and showers were spotless. Disliked: We live over 250 miles from the site and wanted to leave early on the Saturday morning but found that a condition of the booking was that the gates were locked at 10.30 at night till 8 the next morning so we couldn't get infront of the traffic by leaving at 5am, we weren't happy and when I looked on the booking again this information was hidden away in the small print which, granted, I should have read but no one expects to be locked in when you actually get a number to punch in to get in and out and how would emergency services get in in the middle of the night, I presume they could override it then!

Our first visit to see the Dorset Hideaway was in June 2025. We came to have a look at the site to see if we wanted a season pitch for our caravan. |We were shown around the facilities- I have to say, that I have been to many different campsites all over the UK & Europe over the past 56 years, and this place outshines all of them!. Not only are the facilities to the standard of a 5* hotel, there is a dedicated dog “spa” with a raised dog washing bath, and a dog blow dryer , with shampoo & conditioner provided!! This alone is cleaner than most human wash facilities !|The season holders wash block is warm, smells fresh, music playing with hot water, spotless loos and washing up facilities that you would find. It is spotless, clean & warm. You will not find smelly toilets here!|Ryan very kindly showed us the season pitch that was available, that we signed up to come straight away. |It is so nice to get away from the “ hum of humanity”, and background noise that seems to exist almost everywhere now, But not here. There is No traffic noise whatsoever, which is fantastic. |At night, because of no light pollution you can see the stars which is wonderful. Nothing nicer than being tucked up in bed and watching the stars through the roof light of the caravan. |Coming here is just a real treat. All the family members are extremely helpful. |The dog walking field is clean, well maintained and well fenced. |I can honestly say that keeping a caravan on a seasonal pitch is one of the best things. Being here restores the soul. Because the site is open for 12 moths of the year, the cost of having a season pitch here works out to be extremely good value. It is close to the sea, again a real plus point. There are two well stocked fishing ponds for those that enjoy dangling a maggot in the water ( not me, as there might be frogs by the fishing ponds)|To sum up the Dorset hideaway - a peaceful site, extremely helpful family and staff, dark skies at night, and nothing but the sound of nature and sheep to relax into blissful sleep. |For those that want a really special place to stay, without towing a caravan or fighting to put up a tent, they do have an adult only glamping facilities too with private hot tubs. |The site also has a beauty spa. |The Dorset hideaway is ideal if you want to unwind, relax and spend quality times with family and loved ones.|100% recommend it.
