"Located in the idyllic Cotswolds village of Bourton-on-the-Water is a hedge maze that is a puzzle lover’s dream.  The Dragonfly Maze, unlike the majority of other English hedge mazes, incorporates a series of clues and puzzles throughout the maze that must be deciphered in order to fully complete the game. The concept for the game-within-a-maze was inspired by a 1979 children’s book by author Kit Williams called, Masquerade. William’s book provided readers with obtuse clues and riddles that would lead one lucky winner to the location of a golden hare treasure. Taking this model of riddles and rewards, the builders of the Dragonfly Maze placed their titular golden insect in the middle of the maze. However the dragonfly is contained inside of an elaborate frog automaton which was designed by Kit Williams himself. To liberate the bauble, visitors must not only find their way to the middle of the maze, but also solve all of the clues to get the clockwork frog to give up its dinner. Unfortunately, even if the puzzles and the maze are solved, the dragonfly is just to look at and cannot be taken. However the real prize in the Dragonfly Maze is the sense of wonder and adventure brought on by going treasure-hunting in a hedge maze." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This place is a must go with kids. It was far better than what I had expected it to be. We really enjoyed the experience and had super fun. There are other places to visit like birdland, model village motor museum.I would highly recommend carrying a picnic if you have kids and family where u can spe d calm and relaxing time by the River Windrush!!

Such a unique and fun activity for the kids. Glad they offer a family rate to make it more affordable. The gentlemen working the front was very friendly. Definitely a challenge to find all the clues and then to get them correct! We were there about 40 mins. Don't recommend bringing a pushchair. One family had one and it was really difficult to get around them in the maze.

Was greeted by a pleasant and enthusiastic gentleman at the ticket office, who set out the objective of the maze. I was expecting only to have to navigate the maze, which is one of the more challenging ones I’ve seen. The addition of the puzzle to solve makes the experience thoroughly enjoyable. Spent about 25 minutes in total in the maze. Two big kids (40+ year old adults in the real world) loved this.

Surprisingly wonderful! We thought it was a standard maze so went in with expectations of that, but there is a bit of an extra challenge to it. Went with my partner and had great fun! The gentleman welcoming us was very friendly and helpful, and because they only let so many people in per hour, it’s not crowded! Would highly recommend!

Went with the family, kids age 11 and 12 during half term. We parked at the car park next down and about to walk down when we came across this gem. We split into 2 teams and then found each other at the end to save time and solve the puzzle at the end. The best maze we’ve ever done. So happy we went there 1st when we got to Bourton on the water.

We went with the kids (5 and 2.5) and it was great fun! Even for the adults it’s challenging! The gentleman at the front is really friendly. We’ll definitely come back and do it again! Really recommend if you are in town.

26/03/2025 This was a little gem, 3 adults and two dogs thoroughly enjoyed finding the clues, a little lateral thinking for some of the answers, as the first thing that came to mind was not always right. The paths are narrow, luckily it was quiet, so we didn’t have to cross paths with other visitors very often. The chap doing admissions was lovely and friendly and gave us some hints to help us on our way. It’s advertised as 20 minutes if you are clever and we took around 40minutes - obviously not that clever then 🤣 Thank you for maintaining this attraction and keeping it affordable.

Fun for young and old alike. We were 2 adults and found it really enjoyable. Thought we were never going to get out. 🤣 Clues to solve along the way, quite tricky so thank goodness for the children at the end who helped us out 😄 Highly recommend for anyone visiting Bourton on the Water.
