HORRIBLE. This hotel ruined my honeymoon and is the WORST hotel I've ever stayed at in all my 20 years of travel. DO NOT STAY.
I stayed here to celebrate after getting married at the courthouse. WORST mistake and we ended up checking out early (by 2 days) because we were disrespected and couldn't sleep.
Here's what went wrong:
1. The complimentary internet was SLOW, bordering on being nonexistent.
2. The TV streamed so slowly that it had visible flickering. We were unable to watch anything!
3. There was an event going on that weekend so we couldn't eat at the bar or restaurant. Of course we weren't told any of this ahead of time.
4. People were slamming doors constantly and we could barely sleep. The walls are also paper thin. Even if there was an event, the walls should be somewhat soundproof.
5. There was dust left which we saw when we checked in, and we had reserved our room for 2 months out.
6. There was a sewer smell from the toilet.
7. The rug had a stain on it (brown) :(
8. We had to wait for room service to call us back because nobody was there to answer the phone.
9. We got wrongfully accused of having a physical fight on Friday (which was our wedding night. By being wrongfully accused we mean the front desk woman called us the day after the supposed event occurred and accused us of being loud instead of getting our side of the story. She then threatened to call the Oak Brook police on us. We did not throw things and were not violent like she said. They did all of this when we checked out early because we did not want to get wrongfully accused by the Oak Brook Police. No communication or trying to understand what happened, as rooms across from us were arguing and throwing things and slamming doors. We barely slept.
10. The abysmal front desk woman when we checked out early (no idea what her name is) got in my now husband's face and was trying to intimidate him, screaming in his face. She came out from behind the counter trying to insight violence from him. She lied and said she's the manager when we demanded a refund, even though she is not, and didn't even give us the GM's contact information. She was accusatory, rude, lacked patience, empathy, or common sense. We did not get a full refund, only the nights we didn't end up staying. She ruined our stay and ruined our honeymoon when we had to figure out a new place to stay.
11. We did not even get an acknowledgment that it was our honeymoon even though we arrived from the courthouse in our wedding outfits. We felt like a nuisance and were treated with coldness, like an inconvenience. We were not offered any kind of perks and were not even given a packet like at other hotels about what services they offer, other points of interest to visit, etc. It was like being greeted by a terse librarian. I would expect this from a motel, not a 4 star ranked hotel.
We had to find a new hotel on the fly (ON OUR HONEYMOON) because we got no rest and were worried we would get accused of more disturbances because a room near us was arguing, slamming doors, etc. Another room kept slamming the door repeatedly to somehow retaliate against whoever was being loud.
We switched to the Hilton Conference Center in Oak Brook. They have a nice view of the golf course from your room, cost less than the Drake, have a Starbucks, bar and grill, and the best part is their customer service treats you like a person, not like a nuisance. Nate hooked us up with free drinks and appetizers once we told him how horrid our experience at the Drake was.
This hotel looks nice on the outside, but the quality and cleanliness in the room was lacking, the customer service was the WORST I've ever encountered in my 20 years of travel, and this hotel deserves to be downgraded and ranked as a 2 star hotel based on the horrific customer service. I've stayed at Holiday Inns with better customer service in New Mexico. I'll never stay again.
P.S. the hotel is classist so if you show up and you're not decked out in prom gear or are not a rich, old white person, be prepared to be treated like a nuisance, or someone who is not worthy of staying there. Literally someone asked why my husband wasn't wearing golf shoes and was wearing Nikes. Who cares? If you're paying to stay, being treated like a person would be a top priority. Apparently they don't want repeat guests, because we will never stay again. You have been warned.
