Raffles at The OWO, London Ushers in a Whole New Era of Excellence

"A restrained, relaxing salon anchored by tufted leather sofas that stages a majestic afternoon tea and, in the evenings, serves classic tipples — Martinis, Manhattans, Negronis — while offering views through mahogany sash windows over Whitehall’s monuments for a pampering, old‑world experience." - Brad Japhe

Absolutely gorgeous setting and delicious High Tea. Feels elevated and a step back in time. The Drawing Room is not very big but roses and friendly staff made a lovely atmosphere and great photos! $55 is high but the ambience is good. Food was good, flavours are good. So much food...

Afternoon tea at The Drawing Room inside the Prince of Wales was an absolutely charming experience that exceeded all expectations. The elegance of the space is undeniable, deeply rooted in the rich history of the hotel. From the moment you approach the building, the Victorian style captivates you—it's like stepping back in time, in the most beautiful way. Inside, the tea room is tastefully decorated with vintage touches that carry through from the furniture to the table settings. Every detail, from the delicate teapots to the fine china, oozes old-world English charm. It truly felt like a classic English tea experience. The food and tea were simply amazing. Each tier of the afternoon tea was beautifully presented, from the exquisite finger sandwiches to the decadent desserts. The cheese and fruit plates were perfectly curated and balanced. And the scones? Absolutely to die for—warm, flaky, and served with all the right accompaniments. We were lucky to have Brooklyn as our server, and her service was nothing short of exceptional. She was attentive, warm, and added such a personal touch to our visit. At $55 per person, this experience is a true treat and worth every penny. If you're looking for an elegant afternoon tea steeped in Victorian charm, The Drawing Room at the Prince of Wales is a must-visit.

Extremely disappointed with our High Tea today. I made the reservation a week ago and confirmed it yesterday. I had specified this was a special occasion which they did not acknowledge (why they asked in the booking if they were not going to mention it during our visit, I just don't know). When we arrived exactly on time, they said they needed to "find a spot for us", this took a few minutes. Rather than putting us at a regular table, they tried to sit us at a coffee table which we declined. We are all over 60 and to sit like that to eat would be very uncomfortable. We felt like they thought they were doing us a favour by finding us a place. They then found the 3 of us a small table, even though there was a nicer table by the window that was being held for a group of 4 arriving in 45 minutes, why not give us that and save the coffee table for them?? The salmon sandwiches were extremely dry and the bread felt stale. Croissants were on the hard side but the egg salad was tasty. Desserts were nice but nothing that made us say "wow". The server went out of her way and had a special coffee made for one of us. She was also very pleasant and did what she could to make our visit nice. We paid $165, plus tax and tip, which was a lot for the amount and quality of food. It was all extremely disappointing.

We came for my friend's bachelorette excursion, and it was such a nice experience. Our server Victoria was absolutely the best and so friendly and welcoming, and the food was also yummy and actually filling for an afternoon tea set. We just ordered the regular Afternoon Tea set at dinner time (they no longer serve the Candlelit one, so the website is outdated), and I didn't think it would be enough food but I realized I only ate like 4 things and then I was full lol. They might change the menu around, but as of August 2025, my favourite sweet item was probably the raisin scone--it was soft and fluffy on the inside while being crispy on the exterior, it had juicy raisins, and with butter/jam on top, mmm it was delicious. My favourite savoury item was the egg salad croissant, and I don't generally like egg salad! I wish it was bigger 🥺 I also mentioned that I had a nut allergy, so Victoria gave me a separate tray for my food items, and I also noticed they swapped out a macaron for a coconut macaroon. It's nice that they have options for people with allergies here!

The afternoon tea was delicious and there were plenty of teas to choose from. We showed up 10 minutes early and were able to be seated right away. We called ahead to request gluten free for both of us, and when we arrived we got a bit of attitude from the hostess who claimed that we never stated we were both gluten free, which we did. Nonetheless, our server was kind and confirmed that they knew we were both gluten free. The tea and food came out quickly and met all of our expectations.

The Drawing Room is inside the Prince of Wales Hotel. We have been wanted to try their High Tea Service for a while, and finally we had the time to go. Our waitress was wonderful and explained the trays to us in detail. They have a limited options for tea flavours. Tea is served in large mismatched teapots, they looked very cool. The food tray had a variety of sandwiches and treats. Scones were hot and tasty. The smoked salmon and the cucumber sandwiches had a very thin layer of filling and were very dry. The egg sandwiches were quite tasty though. And the hummus tart was okay. Overall the ambience was lovely and charming. One comment, we ask the hostess for window tables when we arrived but we were told that we had to specify in the reservation that we wanted to sit next to a window. However, then I overheard the other hostess saying to another group who had requested for window table in their reservation that they can’t reserve a table beside the window. It was a bit confusing It also felt like they only set up the table when guests arrived. We waited and also saw few guests stand and wait for the table to be ready even though those tables were empty for a while. All in all, it was a good experience.

We made reservations for the tea after accidentally finding it on-line. It was marvelous. Lots of scrumptious pastries and finger sandwiches and we also tried the charcuterie board which had more savory bits. The teas were very good. We would recommend for a ladies day out and some self-pampering

The Drawing Room is okay, but I've had better afternoon tea experiences elsewhere. I was so looking forward to this celebration and trying afternoon tea in Niagara on the Lake. Unfortunately, I left disappointed with this experience at The Drawing Room. I've been numerous places for afternoon tea and this ranks the lowest. The main thing going for this place is the ambience of the space itself. In fact, this is what enticed me to try tea at the Drawing Room in the first place. We visited in July for a birthday celebration. Even though this was indicated in our online reservation, the wait staff did not give any birthday wishes nor include a candle or anything to make the service special for a birthday. We've seen candles placed on one of the desserts at other places that serve afternoon tea, which is a really nice touch. Upon arrival, nobody was at the counter to seat us. Eventually another party came, and both us and the other party had to wait several minutes before we were acknowledged. At that point, we were checked in but not seated. It took another few minutes before we were seated. In the reservation, I explicitly requested a table by the window in the reservation, which I'd made several weeks in advance. We were not seated by a window. Right away, we noticed two dark brown stains on our tablecloth which was disappointing. The host was very abrupt, our server was friendly. However, the service was quite disruptive. We were seated near the entrance to a private party room, and a few minutes into our visit we were informed by our server that a party would be coming in shortly and that people may try using the entrance which could be disruptive to us. She asked if we wanted to move. While this was thoughtful of her, I was unsure why they didn't close that entrance since the official entrance into that space was directly accessible from a hallway off the hotel lobby (versus having guests enter the Drawing Room and then into the side room). This was fine, but then the hostess came over and abruptly and asked us to move our table. At this point, the service was simply disruptive. They could have planned for this before seating us. Our tiers of savouries and sweets were brought over before my partner finished his cheese plate, which made for a crowded table. The cheeses were very good and served with lots of fruit (berries, grapes). My cocktail sat around for a while before being served (I could see it sitting on a table near the entrance). In terms of the prepared food, the sandwiches were okay but nothing impressive. Very simple and easy to make at home. They were also very cold as if they'd been stored- prepared- in the fridge and were just taken out. The croissant used for one of the sandwiches was dry. The scones were very big and dry, which was disappointing. I've never tasted a scone that dry before at afternoon tea. I didn't finish mine and it's usually my second favourite part after the savouries. The desserts were overly sweet; for example, the macaron looked very pretty but just tasted like plain sugar. There were no special English desserts such as eccles cake or Battenberg cake. Very North American style dessert tier. Doubt I'll visit again, but figured I'd leave a review for others considering going here. I would not recommend for a special occasion, and I'll opt to go elsewhere where I know the food is fresh and pastries more diverse, authentic, and less sweet. And where the service is more attentive, especially for a celebration!
