My brother and his partner were in town visiting, so we took the obligatory drive to see Niagara Falls, and some wine tasting in the Niagara region.
They asked if I knew of any place that had afternoon tea. I thought Prince of Wales Hotel might, and a quick google search confirmed this. I booked a reservation for three on OpenTable a couple of hours in advance while they were enjoying local Niagara wine at one of the wineries.
This was the first time I’ve had Afternoon tea ever, so I didn’t have any particular expectations. The staff member who served us was very kind and polite. She explained the menu to us, as we had some questions. My brother’s partner has a gluten allergy, and although the menu gluten free substitution requires 24 hr noticed, our server went to the kitchen and asked if gluten free was possible the day. She returned and said they could accommodate, and we were able to get gluten-free items just for her.
I’m not really a tea person so I’m not a good judge on the quality relative to other teas. The food was good, but not amazing. You are paying for the service, atmosphere and charm of the Prince of Wales’ hotel. The china the tea is served in is delicate and beautiful.
I think if you’re a fan of afternoon tea, or with someone who is, it’s worth it. For the casual experience, it’s nice to try once.
