The Duke Mansion

"What's the vibe here?Tucked away in leafy Myers Park, The Duke Mansion is the epitome of Southern elegance. Leave your keys with the valet and suddenly you'll notice you’re standing just a little bit straighter. After all, right before you is the former private home of the Duke family—yes, of Duke University fame. It’s elegant, but not overly fussy.  What's the backstory? The hotel is operated by the nonprofit Duke Foundation and all proceeds support the preservation of the historic home and its glorious gardens. How are the rooms? The Duke Mansion feels simultaneously like a museum and an elegant boutique hotel. Rooms share the property's traditional elegance but never feel too precious. The best two, which come complete with a shared sleeping porch and swings, once belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Duke. Don’t fret if you spill your wine whiling away the afternoon though—the furnishings aren't original—and modern bathrooms raise the comfort level. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free. Tell us about the food and drink. In typical B&B fashion, the room rate includes include breakfast—either buffet or à la carte. There's no onsite restaurant, but the chef will prepare picnic baskets, lunches, and dinners with advance notice. How did you find the service? If you took impeccable Southern manners, mixed in a genuine desire to delight, and added a clear sense of pride in the property, you'd have the Duke Mansion staff. What are the guests like?Duke Mansion guests aren't here to simply hang their hat in between visits to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Discovery Place. This is their destination, and they'd much rather spend hours reading or roaming the gardens than hitting hotspots in Uptown. What about the neighborhood?Myers Park is Charlotte's ritziest neighborhood. Towering trees, rolling lawns, and elegant mansions define the tony area, and The Duke Mansion fits right in. Anything else we should know?Despite its hushed sensibility, Duke Mansion does welcome children—one of the gardens even has a swing set as well as darling trees depicting carved scenes from Peter Rabbit. Bottom line: Worth it? Why?Yes! In a city that prizes shiny and new, Duke Mansion proves that Southern elegance and tradition still reign." - Nancy DePalma

I enjoyed my recent visit to the Duke Mansion for cocktails in the garden. There was a lovely young man named Darius. He was so attentive to us. It was hot on this June day. He graciously gave us refreshing drinks. He located a cool place to sit indoors and hand delivered our food. He was funny, and chatted with us for a few. That’s the kind of attention to detail we like. Please look for him during your next visit, he’ll take good care of you!!

The Duke Mansion was the most spectacular venue we could have imagined for our wedding day. The rooms are incredibly comfortable, the indoor / outdoor space is so well connected, and the staff are the absolute best. So sweet and attentive. They make every guest feel welcomed, and I could not recommend it enough if you are considering the Mansion for your wedding event. We worked with Katie, and she was the BEST! So make sure to ask for her. I'll be recommending the Mansion even to outsiders wanting to stay here instead of a hotel. It's unlike any other place that Charlotte has to offer.

Google
Everything was wonderful but I do have recommendations. Not sure if it was an isolated but my room TV had very few channels. At a minimum channels like TBS, ESPN,TNT,HBO should be available. The grounds are beautiful, romantic and very scenic. But felt like some pressure washing could enhance the grounds. My statements are not criticism just recommendations. We loved the accommodations and will stay every time we are in Charlotte.

Beautiful grounds and building. Attended a meeting here and was just in awe at the building itself. Large waterfall out in the front with a large porch and rocking chairs. Inside their meeting rooms are grand and were easily able to accommodate about 70 or so people. The catered breakfast and lunch were super delicious. All the staff members were efficient and friendly. They only have 2 downstairs bathrooms so for a meeting of about 70 people trying to use the restrooms all at once, was not ideal. Was not able to check out their rooms but I heard they are quite beautiful. They do have a couple of parking spaces out in the front but also offer valet.

The Duke Mansion was the perfect venue for our wedding — not just for the big day, but for the entire weekend. We had all our close friends and family stay on-site with us, and it made the celebration feel so intimate, special, and unforgettable. Everyone had such a wonderful experience — it truly felt like a magical getaway. The hospitality at The Duke Mansion is top tier. Every detail was handled with care and professionalism, and the staff was absolutely impeccable. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt completely taken care of. A huge shoutout to Danielle and Darius, who went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. Whether it was handling logistics behind the scenes or checking in on us to make sure we were happy and relaxed, they were kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our experience amazing. The Duke Mansion gave us not just a beautiful venue, but a full weekend of memories we’ll never forget. We can’t recommend it enough!

I attended the Cocktails in the Garden with some friends. I enjoyed the experience and the beautiful house tour. We received exceptional service from Derrius Walker. He was very attentive and professional. He made sure we had a comfortable spot to enjoy our charcuterie and cocktails despite the summer heat. We appreciated his consistent check-ins throughout the visit which gave us time to relax and the enjoy ambience. A great experience overall.

Had an excellent experience at Cocktails in the Garden. Darius and the team were very attentive to our needs and he made sure we had a remarkable time. The tour was amazing and the charcuterie was delicious! Thanks for making my day.

Google
Great experience to spend the night in a historical landmark. Room and bathroom were both huge. The grounds are beautiful and are often used for weddings. Walking distance to restaurants and grocery store, but getting to a crosswalk to cross the main road (very busy) requires you to often walk farther. Breakfast delicious. Staff was friendly and top-notch.

Yelp
I enjoyed my time here. The staff are all very courteous. They have valet parking. The meals are prepared with care. The conference rooms are large and the grounds are stunning. They're clean and very well maintained. The flower garden is peaceful and tranquil. It's a beautiful place to relax. They have meetings, weddings, receptions and almost anything you can think of. It's a beautiful place.

Yelp
This place is the stuff of dreams and I have been looking for a reason to go and I finally had one with the etiquette of High Tea. The tea was lovely and it was a great refresher. I would love to attend again one day soon.

Yelp
The Pretty Girls Alliance Royal Tea was spectacular. The mansion is beautiful and the service was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Always a delightful venue for an event ~ from a holiday gathering to cocktails in the gardens. If you get an opportunity to spend time in this 1915 gorgeous mansion, in the heart of historic Myers Park, don't hesitate. Go!

Yelp
I had several hours between a conference and a flight. I called the mansion and asked if I could come check out the grounds. They were so welcoming and inviting, I decided it was a good place to enjoy the serenity before travel. The mansion is beautiful and the grounds are amazing. I was able to walk the grounds & visit the various areas. The absolutely most fragrant roses I've ever encountered! Several nooks to sit back, relax and take in nature. It started to mist a bit, so I relaxed on the porch in a rocking chair. I hope to stay next time I visit Charlotte- what a hidden beauty!

Yelp
Stayed one night in the hotel while I was in town for a bicycle race. Great service, very spacious room and I had my own porch swing. They tell you to take the elevator up but the stairs are so much nicer and really put you back in time to when it was still a private house. Wish I had more time to explore the grounds. Bacon at the included breakfast was perfect. I'll stay her again when I return to charlotte.

Yelp
Fabulous location, accommodation, and grounds! Really beautiful, hidden gem. Walk the garden paths. Check out the common areas. Loved our room. I would definitely go back. Shower was a little weird and bathroom floor gets flooded, because of the angle, but still loved the place and the nice people who work there.

Yelp
Ambiance! Ambiance! Ambiance! I was invited to a Educators Brunch and it was lovely, the food was delicious and the decor around the mansion is breathtaking! I highly recommend you stay or visit the Dukes Mansion.

Yelp
The Duke Mansion and Gardens is tucked away along a gated entrance in the residential district of Myers Park in Charlotte, NC. The entrance is beautiful and I absolutely loved the interior lobby and decor. The gardens were pretty but some areas needed some TLC, although the lack of blossoms could have been due to the cold weather in May. The entry was complimentary and we spent about an hour exploring the grounds. It feels like a garden within someone's home as opposed to a botanical garden space--great way to spend some time during your visit.

Yelp
It was our first day and first time in Charlotte and we were looking for a different experience for our stay so we chose the Duke Mansion. The most important thing you should know (that we didn't) is that hotel guests are 2nd class to any events that take place here. Period. There are only 20 rooms and they probably do not generate enough income to sustain the facility. Although room rentals are likely essential to fill out the Duke's overall budget during nonevent times, you will feel marginalized during your stay here if an event is taking place. Apparently there are many. We were unfortunately here during an event and basically relegated to staying in our room lest experience the unwelcoming glares of party goers towards us interlopers or potential party crashers (It happened). There was no where to go downstairs anyway as everything was closed off. Kind of reminded me of having to stay in my room as a kid during my parents "for adults only" parties. We booked the facility more than a month in advance but were notified of the event only a week prior and could not economically change our plans. In hindsight we should have canceled because we were not able to enjoy the property and the Duke did nothing special for the significant disruption of our stay. I am a history buff and relish in the opportunity to stay in a unique, historical property. But staying at The Duke is not exactly a "night at the Museum" as much as "a night at Grandma's"... and after she's slathered on Vick's Vapo Rub. The room was unbearably musty and smelled off. A heavy rain passed through the area a few days prior and I suspect mold issues. The room furniture is an old and eclectic mix of periods and does not illicit a feel of being somewhere special. Maybe other rooms are appointed better. They really should just drop this granny chic look and update all the rooms like they did in the bathrooms which were nicely done except for the water pressure. Overall there is a significant amount of wear at the Duke that the wide photos don't show. This wear and tear would be fine if it was say Paul Reveres house in Boston built in 1680 and has been authentically preserved. But the Duke was built in 1915 and has gone through many owners and modernized remodels here and there. If elements are not truly original (I.e. walls are newer drywall not original lath and plaster) everything should be in tip top shape. Even original architecture should be better cared for. I was expecting a miniature version of the Huntington Library with some antique books to browse through but saw basically a large sized community book swap in the library. So if not historical, if not nicely updated, what exactly is the point here? I respect the fact that this property reflects local history that should be preserved. But to subject guests to a 2nd class experience during events and smelly rooms that need care demonstrates little B&B hospitality - it's more of a northern carpet bagger vibe. Is that the experience and legacy they want guests like us to leave with? I wonder what Buck would make of it all. We paid $258/ night, one Monday night off season. It was a king room, 3rd floor, rm 312. Breakfast was included. Breakfast was outstanding, excellent food and service. I might return for that experience alone if they offered it. And because of the breakfast, overall for that price point, a stay here might be acceptable to some if no event is taking place. But ultimately if you are looking for a unique historical stay you really won't find it here. The rooms are a hodgepodge of worn antique and partially updated. They should update all the rooms (fix mold and plumbing issues) and focus the historic look and experience in the common areas starting with a first class library. What else would one really want to do here but unwind and read a special antique book by the fire, on the porch, or in the garden? Visit the grounds during the day, get breakfast if they offer it alone, but an overnight stay will leave you disappointed.

Yelp
I attended a beautiful Veterans Day service at the Duke Mansion. It was first class. Afterwards, we walked around the gardens which were still lovely in November. It is an awesome place!

Yelp
We were excited to go for the picnic - but pretty disappointed. Staff was nice but inattentive, nothing to wipe hands with in bathroom, and it was raining so we got locked on the patio. Food was OK for picnic. Maybe I'd go back if it were sunny and we could do the gardens? But I certainly wouldn't pay $95 for it again.

Yelp
The Duke Mansion is a lovely gem tucked away in the heart of Charlotte. Convenient to get anywhere in town. Our room was spacious and well maintained, however, they are not equal so make sure you are specific in making your reservation. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area. I would love to give this 5 stars but the staff is lacking. It is actually impressive that they can still say rooms will not be cleaned "due to COVID" with a straight face. Awkward excuse for poor management.

Yelp
My Husband and I booked a room at The Duke Mansion to celebrate our wedding anniversary on May 28th, 2022. I was actually excited and looking forward to our stay but was sadly disappointed. Upon arriving through the gates I observed a beautiful water fountain and rocking chairs among the front porch area. My husband advised me to check in while he unloaded our bags. As I open the door to enter The Mansion I observed staff speaking with another guest. I patiently waited until she was done and entered the check in area. The staff member asked if I was checking in and I advised yes. I provided her with my last name and she advised our reservations were cancelled. I advised her my husband booked via Expedia and checked again and advised the reservation was cancelled. I met my husband at the door and advised him of the situation. An additional staff member had come to the front and confirmed the cancellation but advised there was room and we could re book the cancelled suite. I was waiting for the grand introduction that had been provided to the other guest member but that never happened for us. The gentleman advised us we would be staying in suite Van Every room. They both advised breakfast was between 7:00am-10:00am. We were showed to the elevator. The room was clean with fresh sheets, towels, bedding and bathrobes. We spent most of our time in the room, which we later found a dead roach and cobwebs in the ceiling corners. It was not what we expected at all. The next morning we went to breakfast, which I had 3 pancakes, bacon and fruit and my husband had the French toast. The breakfast was delicious and the waiting staff were great! We invited ourselves to explore the garden and shortly thereafter checked out. The woman whom checked us out was very pleasant and professional. She asked how we liked our stay and I told her how much of a horrible experience it was, from us not being greeted upon arrival to the lack of information provided regarding the property and the pest that was in our room. The staff member advised us that breakfast in bed was an option, that the fitness center was o the 3rd floor and more information, history and pictures could be found there as well. I told her that we were not greeted or welcomed to the establishment and none of the information was shared with us. The staff member also shared that the woman whom checked us in was filling in for her. That was still not an excuse. For those reasons we had a horrible experience at The Duke Mansion. The food was great but the service was horrible!

Yelp
Came here for the summer cocktail event. It's a nice facility but seems a little rundown. The outside looks like it could use some TLC (new coat of paint or a power washing) and the inside is in need of new carpet. There was only one bartender on staff so the line for a drink can get long. Drinks ranged from $6-8-10 and they accept cash or credit. The gardens are small but well manicured. There was a bridal photo shoot happening in one of the garden areas so were weren't able to get the full experience. I got lucky and found a parking spot in the front of the fountain.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel classic look surrounded by lovely gardens The service was nice, room cleaned well and breakfast plentiful and fresh. Walked around the grounds and neighborhood, classic homes and near many commercial options

Yelp
Free parking, nightly happy hour, free entrance, free to roam around the mansion and grounds. Found this on google and was happy to drop in and get out of the cold. I had a nice cup of tea because I was under the weather. The girl working at the front desk was friendly and informative. Drop in if you are in the area. There is a lot of history in the building.

Yelp
Happy 100th Anniversary to the Duke Mansion. Was here last night for the Art Show. Opportunity to look at oil paintings on canvas and many pieces from 12 artist from the area. Walk up the steps and toward the right are rocking chairs for you to sit and absorb the night air. Beautifully manicured lawns and hedges. You are totally insulated from the rest of the world here as if you were taken back in time to another era. Wonderful opportunity to visit the grounds and the gardens. My all time favorite was the vegetable garden- the baby eggplants hanging and morphing to full size in couple of days, smell the spearmint, etc.. The Rose Garden with variety of colored roses. The fountain was filled with tadpoles. Will definitely be back for a stay at this Bread & Breakfast or host an event here.

Yelp
My Cousin celebrated her 40th birthday with a Dinner at the Duke Mansion. The party started at night & the entrance is pretty dark so it's easy to miss. The venue itself is really nice. The food was delicious & the service was really good.

Yelp
I felt like I drove hours away to get out of the city to stay at a historical home and resort. I left feeling like I had a grand adventure. The check in was smooth and we were in our room after free parking in about 2 minutes. There is also free coffee and tea all day in the second floor hall. Our room was just a normal king with a shared balcony. Lucky for us, the other room with the balcony access wasn't sold so we had a huge screened balcony overlooking the fountain in front all to ourselves. The furniture was comfortable and the room was elegant. It was hot outside during the day and the air conditioning worked very well which was nice. The gardens were lush and had lots of places you sit and relax. The staff was also extremely nice and made the experience even better. Breakfast is included and they have a very nice selection. I would do this again - it really was the relaxing weekend I really wanted.

Yelp
We did a picnic on the grounds of the Duke Mansion for our anniversary, in the garden. We were supposed to pick up our prepared picnic basket at 1:00, but we were ten to fifteen minutes late. It didn't matter since it wasn't ready when we got there. We waited a good ten to fifteen minutes to get it. My biggest pet peeve was with the food preparation. First of all, my utensils had fingerprints all over them. They looked dirty, which wasn't cool. My chicken Caesar salad had a chicken wing piece attached to a piece of breast. The sandwich they gave us was just nasty. My husband said his ham was all fat. Almost looked like they put it all together in a hurry. On a positive note, the ginger iced tea and banana pudding were OUTSTANDING. The garden was pretty nice and we found a nice spot to sit and enjoy a couple of hours. All in all, it was a positive experience. But they could have done much better with the food.

Yelp
Gorgeous location - the gardens, grounds & house are simply devine! We went for a tea & crumpets event - saw so many mothers with their little girls all dressed up for a tea time, it was fabulous!! The food was heavenly and the options of tea were exquisite! Best tip about this place: drive around the neighborhood, the houses surrounding this mansion are amazing!! and there is valet here!!

Yelp
The Duke Mansion what can I say. The Architecture and the history is just beautiful and interesting. My girlfriend and I had no idea it was a bed and breakfast and have passed by it many times. We had a concert in town and decided that we should just do a staycation. We booked a room online and check in and check out was easy. The room we had was clean and comfortable, I loved their pillows oh so soft! Each room has a bathroom and was clean, No issues with hot water or anything. I really enjoyed my night at the Duke Mansion the gardens were beautiful I can't imagine how nice it will be once all the plants are in full bloom. I can't wait to have a big event there!

Yelp
Disclaimer: This review is just for their Cocktails at the Mansion event they hold each summer. I finally made it to one of the last cocktail evenings of the summer! The foyer of the mansion is stunning, with black and white tiled floors. The outdoor garden area is equally stunning and surprisingly tranquil given its proximity to Providence Rd. Everything about the decor and landscaping was top notch! I am docking it one star because I wasn't impressed with the actual cocktail portion of this particular event. They had a lovely server who had a few selections of beer and wine, and a small selection of liquors and mixers. I wouldn't consider bottles of gin/vodka/whiskey and cans of soda/seltzer to be cocktails...but that's alright. Definitely worth coming to for the beauty of the mansion, just don't expect anything special with the drinks!

Yelp
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. So for now, just imagine I'm giving it all 5 starts times two :-) There is not enough that I can say about The Duke Mansion. Anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, look no further. The Duke Mansion will transport you back in time, to when life was a bit slower and finer. The rooms at this place are exquisite. This place is one of rare vintage indeed. The first thing I noticed about our room was that the ceilings were well over 15 feet high. You just don't fined places like that anymore. And the entire mansion is both bright, and spotless. Very well kept. The grounds are astonishingly well kept. You can spend an hour walking around the grounds, just adoring the flowers, exotic local birds and landscaping. It's obvious that a lot of people get married at the Duke Mansion, and that's no surprise. Highly recommend you check this place out if you're getting married in NC, or would be willing to travel to NC to get married, just to do something different for a change. The breakfast was spot on. Basic Southern food, delicious to the core. The staff are super friendly. Typical of the South though :-) Another great facet about the Duke Mansion is it's proximity to downtown Charlotte and other lively, nearby suburban neighborhoods. It's rare to find a place that seems so isolated (in a good way) but yet offers 15 minute access in any direction to whatever you want to do. TIP: Get either room 204 or 205. These rooms share the lovely, screened in private balcony. The balcony overlooks the fountain. It's so peaceful. And it's massive. There are both swings and lounge chairs. I will definitely be going back to the Duke Mansion. This place is heavenly. Do it!

Yelp
I can't imagine giving this anything less than five stars based on the attentive and friendly staff alone. Built in 1915 this place is gorgeous. There were two couples touring it as a possible wedding venue when I was there and I can imagine it would be beautiful site for an event like that that. Rooms are large and have (at least some do, I heard that others did not) large screened in porches that look out over the gardens. Close to downtown. There's a small exercise room available. Free parking!

Yelp
I stayed overnight. It's a very beautiful building on the outside. The room was cozy and clean. The bed was comfortable and the linens very soft, has down and sythentic pillows. Bathroom had a tub/shower combo and robe. The room did not have a refrigerator or microwave, but they will help you out in the kitchen downstairs. Free bottled water in the room. Free WiFi was fast. This particular room, 313 I do not recommend as it was right across from the elevator and I kept hearing it all night. There are no snacks to purchase, but they keep a tea, coffee, water station on the second floor. Breakfast was a buffet, scrambled eggs, bacon, grits, homestyle potatoes. A few breads, muffins, pastry, and yogurts. Also mixed fruit. The seating for breakfast was 2 round banquet tables, so you are potentially sitting with other people, which can be good or bad. Very pretty location.

Yelp
This review is for my B&B stay in the Nisbet Room of the mansion itself. (Click on bottom of review to see all photos I've posted or jump to Page 4 of photos to get to most recent pics.) I really wanted to love this place (I really did!!!) & was so excited to book it for my 54th birthday. I've stayed at many Select Registry B&Bs as well as upscale resorts in the same price range so that's where I draw my comparison from. Any room $300+/night needs to meet certain standards & Duke Mansion fell short overall. This did not feel like a B&B stay with the personal attention given at other Select Registry properties. It felt like a large historic hotel where they were more concerned with the functions, meetings & evening cocktails than their paying, overnight guests. Most other B&Bs have an evening reception w/hors d'oeuvres & wine included at no extra charge. This property has a cocktail hour where outsiders come in, they charge for alcohol allowing them walk the grounds & the interior. Had I known that I probably would have booked The Drury Inn & Suites (AWESOME HOTEL W/EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE!) and stopped in at the mansion for cocktail hour like all the others. This is great if you're not a guest paying $350/night & you're just wanting hold a glass of wine & walk the gardens. So that was the overall vibe of the house. When I arrived, the front desk was unattended. Everyone seemed to be busy setting up for an event in one of the larger rooms. Eventually, within about 15 min, the front desk clerk showed up. No assistance was offered getting my suitcase up the mansion's front stairs or to the 2nd floor. At the other SR B&Bs, guests are escorted to their rooms. At first glance, everything looked fine but as the pics show, there wasn't the attention to detail in a room of this cost. Room repairs to carpet, upholstery & furniture as well as a sweep/clean up of the shared screened in porch is much needed. I've stayed at other properties in the $160-$200 price point in excellent condition others at $350 that were pristine...not a thing I would change. Instead of a wordy review, I'll make a list of pros & cons. You be the judge, after all, it's your hard earned money you're spending. I'm an RN...I have to wipe a lot of dirty behinds to stay at places like this. My $$$ is hard earned as is yours, I'm sure. Please be sure to look at the pics I posted...Jump to Page 4 for most recent photos.). Sometimes pics are worth 1000 words. They tell the story behind the story. Bottom line, it's nice at a quick glance but not worth the steep price during prime season! I'd say a more realistic price point for the quality of service provided & lack of amenities would be $190-$250. CONS: * Not a typical high standard "Select Registry" B&B experience * No nightly turndown service like other B&Bs * No afternoon reception (*tea, wine, hors d'oeuvres) for B&B guests (extra charge) * Nisbet Room in need of new carpet, re-upholstery, furniture repairs & porch clean up (leaves, cob webs, ashes from previous guests) * Some common areas had peeling paint * Shower clogged, standing in 3" of puddled water. Front desk sent up housekeeping to Draino clog. This is a Q&A check that should be done by housekeeping between guests with each cleaning. * No small refrigerator in room (Unacceptable at this price point. Most guests will bring a bottle of wine, champagne or sparkling water to enjoy & should be able to keep chilled.) * No ice machine available (Need to call front desk & arrange a time to bring up every time you need ice.) * TV/Cable "offline" not connected or disconnected in Nisbet Room * WiFi very slow & lost connection often in yard * Yard/grounds/gardens unkept during our stay on Aug 14th. Needed mowing, trimming & general clean up. Large brown spots throughout lawn. * Coffee/Tea station on 2nd floor out of coffee tired, messy at times & only heavy cream available. Fruit just so-so. (At this cost Skim & Almond Milk should be available for health conscience guests.) * Lack of customer service towards overnight guests, geared more towards meetings & functions for outside clientele. * Blind driveway, difficult to find. One way but not clearly marked for those unfamiliar w/the property. * Overall, not the usual friendly feel of a Select Registry B&B * No pool, no hot tub & no work out facility PROS: * Front of Mansion impressive upon driving up (but tired & in need of a fresh coat of paint on closer viewing.) * Wide parking spaces * Clean linens * Comfy bed * Almond milk available on request, but call ahead, not typically offered. * Ice water dispenser on 2nd floor beverage station (No fresh fruit slices infused. Made that suggestion on check out.) * Attractive breakfast buffet & table settings * Some of the staff were very friendly making breakfast very enjoyable (Inez & Mike were professional & gracious!) * Food quality at breakfast was very good *Probably a great venue for booking meetings/functions.

Yelp
The mansion had its charms. I wouldn't say it was spectacular in any one area of the mansion though. With anything historic and exclusive as this place, there's a southern charm to it. My bride friend rented out the conference room for the day to use as a dressing room and have access to the mansion grounds (both inside and out) which cost her $250 (?). Pricey. This conference area was spacious as it had a screened porch area overlooking the front of the mansion. I think the outside grounds are free for the public to access, but please don't quote me on that. The side courtyard with the fountains were being renovated when we were there. The open lawn space behind the mansion was beautiful. I am sure kids have taken naps there. Man, prob adults have too. Lol. There were tables and chairs to one side of this lawn with some benches and outdoor couches on the opposite. Moving onwards, you will reach a mini flower garden. There was a mini playground for the kiddies as well along with a mini veggie garden in the same area as well. Parking was available as they had some spots in the immediate front, but there were small parking lots all around. You can always hit downtown as it is literally only a few minutes away. There's also a school in the area as well for further browsing.

Yelp
Geez, I thought I had already reviewed this place. I visited last July and what a beautiful and magnificent spot this is. The lawns are beautifully manicured and adorned with various flowering plants, shrubs and trees. Staff is friendly. You can stroll around the grounds or take a night cap in the library. Great venue for any type of celebration!

Yelp
This place is amazing. We booked the last room available so we didn't have much choice but the second floor rooms have amazing balconies. Our room on the 3rd floor is still beautiful! High ceilings, plush robes, and a big bathroom. They even had ice in the ice bucket and classical music playing for us upon our arrival. They have a cash bar from 5-8 but it was closer to 9 when I arrived. The gentleman at the front offered beer and wine but since I had brought some, he kindly brought glasses to the room. Looking forward to a spectacular breakfast followed by a stroll though the gardens.

Yelp
The most beautiful venue I have ever been too!! It provides you with perfect mix of an outdoor and indoor venue. The outdoor botanical venue is decorated with small light bulbs draped across the backyard, underneath which there are cute outdoor iron detailed tables and scattered benches. Inside, the mansion is decorated with black and white checkered tiles and huge chandeliers! The food was also exceptionally good which I appreciated as I find it hard to judge food at most venues until it's too late. We were served a cucumber-watermelon salad followed by a filet entree with vegetable risotto. The presentation was stunning; I absolutely loved this venue and the staff was super friendly and professional!

Yelp
The Duke Mansion speaks for itself--wonderful interior as well as exterior grounds and gardens. What makes The Duke above and beyond any other hotel/Inn---anywhere--- are the people that work there. A wonderful staff throughout. One of the best and most memorable experiences in a very long time. Elegant historical building, and professional and courteous staff--the most perfect combination !

Yelp
EXCEPTIONAL accommodations! We were expecting a nice place but this was above and beyond. Great breakfast in the morning with grits that would feel at home on a five star menu. Highly recommend The Duke for a wedding or at least your pictures. One word of warning if you're staying in The Harris or The Van Every rooms... There is a conference/meeting space across the hall. We stayed during the week and a group of loud businessmen discussing their golf game woke us up at 7:30am. If you need to sleep in, consider the 3rd floor.

Yelp
The most beautiful B&B I've ever stayed at. The service was wonderful. The rooms were clean. The robes were plush. The full free breakfast was yummy. The bed was a bit squeaky, but it was part of the charm of a hundred year old mansion. Easy access by cab every place I needed to be, while there on business. They have a computer and printer which helped while I did not have a printer. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Awesome house and gardens! Took a stroll through the beautiful gardens, which is set up like different rooms with seating areas. Was so relaxing, even on a hot summer evening. I am so glad to have attended the Duke Mansion Cocktails and Garden stroll. Hopefully they will have this during the fall months, I would love to see how the garden changes.

Yelp
Stayed here for the night with my husband who was in town for business. This place was AMAZING!!! The grounds were beautiful, staff was awesome and our room was so clean, romantic and cozy. I loved every single thing about this place! One of the best experiences I've ever had. I can't wait to come back soon.

Yelp
Beautiful home and gardens. This place is GORGEOUS. It's so easy to use the mansion as an event venue because it's already so pretty. Everyone I encountered was super nice and took great care to make sure my sister's event went smoothly. The food is amazing and the service is great. The string lights in the courtyard are a super cute touch! Really enjoyed visiting the mansion and will definitely keep it in mind for future events!

Yelp
Lovely gracious home and gardens. Spent the night for a birthday celebration and despite the weather, it was a fun experience. The room was lovely with a wide porch and swing. The gardens even in the winter are well laid out and so much fun to explore. Will definitely be back to explore when the garden is flowering. The breakfast was phenomenal - very lucky to have this gem in the middle of Charlotte.

Yelp
My family recently booked the venue for a Bridesmaid Luncheon. The grounds, the dining room and and the venue in general were beautiful and well kept. We were all excited to be there and the show our guest, many of whom were out of town, our beautiful city and the area. Our problems were with the food service. The bread was not served with the main course and when asked, the wait staff, acted bothered and replied that the bread was being baked. It was served at the end of the meal, The dessert had not been thawed properly and was cold and partially frozen in places. The cleaning staff left dirty mops in the hallway near the dining room and ran vacuum cleaners in near proximity to the room. Our event coordinator was pleasant and helpful but did not offer an apology when informed of the issues above.

Yelp
I would give The Duke mansion a "5 star" rating if every traveler was just like me - able to sleep through anything. But since the Mansion is more than just a B&B...it is a living, breathing conference/wedding/meeting place, it can be noisy. Other than that, it is delightful and sumptuous. The breakfasts in the morning are wonderful and elegantly prepared. The whole neighborhood is exquisite and you feel as if you're being pampered the second you drive into the area and see all the old, gorgeous mansions and manicured lawns. It's a pleasure to be a part of such a piece of history, but if you're a light sleeper, think twice!

Yelp
Wonderful, hidden gem in Charlotte. My husband and I spent our wedding night there - the breakfast the next morning was outstanding. I would highly recommend this for a romantic evening or wedding night.

Yelp
Amazing! What a treat to stay in a lovely Southern mansion with beautiful gardens and charming formal rooms. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfy, In the morning we were served an excellent buffet breakfast with fresh fruit fresh squeezed OJ and an array of hot foods. And the mansion is situated in one of the best neighborhoods where you can walk. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Very nice hotel & friendly staff . But two things were disappointing. They claim our room had a queen size bed- if that was a queen size bed than its the smallest one I've ever slept in! Also the a/c unit was very loud in our room, so beware of room 318!! Nice breakfast.
