The Duke of Clarence - SilverKris

"Hidden amid the CBD’s alleys, The Duke of Clarence transports visitors into 18th century London. With wood panelling, low-slung sofas, fireplaces and shelves filled with old leather-bound books, the pub feels like the library of an old manor house. The food and drink offerings are equally English: thinkcask ales on tap, cocktails like the Wimbledon Common and dishes like Scotch eggs, roasts, pies and cheese boards." - Gayatri Bhaumik

I came for the Sunday roast and a good pint of beer. I wasn’t disappointed. I got the lamb roast and a three sheets ale and it was all delicious. I’m going back again for the Monday steak night special. I like the pub atmosphere the food is good and the service is quick. Don’t let the alley and the trash bins deter you. Update: I came back the next day for the steaks Monday special. The Monday steak was not as good as a Sunday Lamb. But I still enjoyed having a pint of lager with my meal.

Tucked away in the laneway but a lovely gem. Fantastic atmosphere and decorated like an old English pub. We had the Sunday Roast which was delicious and filling. They had a few different types to choose from. Service was great. Tiny venue so it’s not for a long session.

Was a bit hesitant to order the roast given some has reviewed it to be dry, but the lamb we ordered on a weeknight was delicious! The gravy was good, the yorkie was a bit dry but rest was delicious. The 20$ steak special was decent for the price but the steak was really chewy. Good fries! Scotch egg and the cocktail/drinks were delicious.

Absolutely loved it!! I scheduled my lunch to be on a quiet time after peak lunch hour so I could get a nice seat next to the fireplace, and my perfect plan worked! It was very relaxing, specially on such cold day, to enjoy reading, eating and drinking in such warm atmosphere. The steak was divine, cooked to perfection, everything was delicious! More people started to arrive and sitting near me, and it was a very friendly bunch, we had great conversations! Adding to my list of favourite places in Sydney! Thank you!

A real and proper British style pub experience. The hand-pulled ales are delicious, and true to form proper cask ales, meaning fermentation of sugars breaking down which causes the “fizz” and foam, as opposed to artificial carbonation. Atmosphere is relatively dark and cozy, just want you want for a pub nestled into the corner of an alley outside of the immediately hustle and bustle of the surrounding CBD area. Service was impeccable, very attentive and chatty, with great cocktails to boot. Great experience, even for just a duck in visit for a quick pint.

Finally had the Roasts Sunday and it was very good. We ordered each of the beef, lamb and pork and were all scrumptious. The porchetta was melt in your mouth! Loved the Yorkshire pudding and all the veggies with the roasts.

4 of us had different Roasts for the Sunday Roasts, the pork was the best, it melts in your mouth combined with the fat and the side of sauce was very interesting. Each dish also came with the Yorkshire pudding which was nice with everything especially the gravy. Beef and lamb could've been way better, both seemed chewy and overcooked. Vegetables tasted like normal roasted veggies so you'd want pour gravy all over everything which makes it nice. The customer service was pretty good, get free water refills, food came at the same time, waiter asked us how we felt about the food and I felt he really listened, thanks. The lighting became quite dark after we sat down around 6:30pm, the place itself is small so it can get quite loud but the music was nice and catchy, the theme of the whole place looked unique and interesting to sit down and chill at.
