The Dunes Resort

Another fantastic stay at the Dunes Resort in Douglas, Mi. Staff was great. Kudos to an outstanding Housekeeping team. Room was impeccably clean. Housekeepers assigned to room #25 were A+++ . Property is well maintained and provides ample parking for their guests. Bar on site was fun. Drinks were very well made with matching service. Easy access to Saugatuck/Douglas food venues.

Was in town for a wedding and after it wrapped up decided to go to the Dunes for a bit as the Saugatuck Halloween parade was the same night. Very nice! Have been before in the colder months and it's been pretty slow... But it was PACKED by the time the parade got out. Have never been in the summer, which is when it's obviously it's busiest time of year. Anyway, was fun, they had karaoke over on one side and dance floor etc on the other. Didn't rate "rooms" because didn't and haven't experienced that aspect.

I've been a guest with my partner and friends several times at the Dunes Resort and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves every time. Why? The pool, the privacy, the cabanas (they are an extra fee, they are comfy as heck and totally worth it esp on the weekends and be sure to book ahead), the DJs, the Tea Parties, the entertainment on the weekends (comedy, cabaret, drag - duh), the staff and the general feeling you get from a friendly spot for men to relax and be themselves. Yes, there are extra-curricular activities, yes there are hot young guys in skimpy swim togs-you did see the word 'Resort' in the name, right? What the Dunes lacks is the 'ick' factor you might find at other gay men's resorts. I don't know if it's the location in beautiful Douglas/Saugutuck or the Midwest-nice-y-ness of the area, the Dunes has all kinds of men from all over the country and the world having a good time, very little attitude and close to some fantastic nature and restaurants and cute little shops that us gay boys love. Trust me, We keep going back because it's special. And more friends join us every year.

I've lived in West Michigan for over 20 years and try to visit the Dunes Resort at least once each summer... mainly to use the pool. It had been on my bucket list to actually STAY at the Dunes for a few nights, and my husband and I finally got our chance to do that in July 2025. (We checked in on a Thursday evening and checked out Sunday morning.)||All in all, we had a great experience staying here! It was nice, for once, to finally experience the Dunes from the perspective of an overnight guest. Our room (#35) overlooked the pool and was in the exact spot we had hoped to get. (I think we had booked the room back in January or something like that and didn't want to stay on one of the busiest weekends... like Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day. This was actually Venetian weekend.)||We found our weekend at the Dunes to be quite relaxing and enjoyable. It was busy but not terribly so (the weather could have been a bit better and may have kept some people away). But we loved where our room was located. We got to use the pool multiple times during our stay, and we also went to the bar a couple of nights. Plus, the Cabaret show we got to see on the Saturday night of our stay was a lot of fun!||Prior to our arrival, we sort of expected it to be loud and that we might have a hard time sleeping... but it was actually reasonably quiet! (Except for Saturday night where we heard a bit of noise coming from one of the nearby rooms, but it didn't prevent us from getting a decent night's sleep.)||Another thing we liked was that housekeeping came and cleaned our room each of the full days we stayed there, so we appreciated that. (The room was clean overall.)||Overall, the Dunes is in a great location in the Douglas/Saugatuck area. On one of the evenings, we were able to grab one of the local shuttle busses and take the shuttle from the Dunes into downtown Saugatuck, which was helpful because parking in downtown Saugatuck can be very challenging in the summer.||My only complaint was about how expensive the room was. There weren't really any extras that added value; you were sort of paying for the experience of staying there I think we paid well over $1,100 for a 3-night stay. They required a minimum 3-night stay, so we didn't have much of a choice but to stay for three nights... but honestly, we kind of needed the three nights to make the most of our weekend there.||I fully enjoyed our stay at the Dunes and would gladly stay again... despite the cost. I would just want to stay in the same section (around where Room #35 was). Thanks to the Dunes for a great stay!

I visited The Dunes for the first time in August 2025 and had an incredible weekend! My room was simple but clean and had everything I needed for a quick gay weekend getaway. This isn’t a luxury resort — it’s a charming, retro-style Midwestern motel with a great pool and a lively bar. They even still have keys to get into the rooms. The grounds of the property are beautiful and well kept. If you go in with the right expectations, you’re in for a fantastic time. Already counting down the days until I can go back!

Finally made it out the group chat and made our way to The Dunes. No amount of research could've prepared me for the best summer weekend getaway. All the reviews of the location are accurate. But nothing prepared me for the sense of community they're building out there. We went for Xmas in July some guest brought cookies and jello shots to share our neighbors even decorated. Didn't run into a single bad attitude every single person from staff and guest were just so friendly. I jokingly told my friend that if I have to introduce myself one more time ill scream but i couldn't help it! I like meeting people! On night two these two guys asked if they could sit next to us and they did and we all got along so well we ended up hanging out with them all weekend they are now apart of the group chat.

I have stayed at The Dunes in the past and always appreciated what this resort brings to the community. It has an important role as a gathering space and can be a fun and welcoming place. That said, my most recent stay (July 31–Aug 4, 2025) was extremely disappointing and concerning. The basement “Captain’s Dune Room” I was placed in was in very poor condition: visible mold, constant dampness, no ventilation when hallway doors were closed, and shared bathrooms that offered almost no privacy. These conditions were not only uncomfortable but created real health hazards. I became ill, had to seek urgent medical care, and was prescribed steroids for mold exposure — something no guest should ever experience from a hotel room. I raised these concerns with staff, then followed up multiple times in writing. Unfortunately, management’s response was dismissive, minimized the situation as a “preference” issue, and offered only a one-night refund for a multi-night stay. They failed to acknowledge the mold, the fire safety risks, or the medical harm that resulted. For the prices charged, the rooms are in desperate need of updating, and basic health and safety standards must be addressed. I sincerely hope the resort invests in proper maintenance and upgrades because the Dunes does matter to the community. But until these issues are corrected, I cannot recommend staying here.

The room we got leaves a lot to be desired, especially given the price. It was one of the lower level rooms. It needs a rehab badly. The bathroom fan sounds like a jet, it is so loud. The whole place smells, which explains the dehumidifier. The dehumidifier also keeps the bedroom really warm, but we didn't want to move it as we figured the moisture was toward the back. The carpets are stained and look very dirty. We noticed people were bring dogs to these cabins, so that explains some of the smell and stains. The cleaning staff work very hard, but they can't fix this. The bedroom lacks windows and a TV. To put it mildly these cabins need refurbished. It does appear that more females and possibly straight couples are staying here, so keep that in mind. It isn't strickl a gay men's resort. We came for the underwear weekend. Not any underwear events seemed to occur on Friday or Saturday. The tea dance did have a few of us wearing underwear, but it was a very dead tea dance. The locals nor the bartenders participated in wearing underwear, so not sure why they even had the event on the calendar. We also were told we needed to wear wristbands, which just makes you stand out everywhere you go on or off property. We have been here before, but things have changed. It has great potential but it needs a little love. It is a great location with a lot to do in the surrounding area.

This was our third stay. As always the room was immaculate. Staff friendly and helpful. My wife and I enjoy the love and kindness we always are greeted with frm staff as well as guests. Close to town and our favorite restaurants and bars. Do not forget the Dunes bar. It is fun and welcoming for all. Always something going on at the Dunes

The Dunes Resort is a cornerstone of the Saugatuck / Douglas community and it's development seemed to be the catalyst for the local area to develop a stronger tourism market. The rooms and property seemed very clean. We were staying here late in the season / after labor day but were pleasantly surprised the pool was still open. The bar and dance pavilion are very nice and it seemed like they offered many events to keep guests and locals entertained. The room could probably stand to be refreshed soon but it had all the amenities one should expect from a hotel but it did feel a bit dated. One area of improvement would be for the hotel to offer more food options on site (perhaps open a restaurant) as there were limited offerings within walking distance of the resort but many terrific options 1+ mile driving.

We had a very relaxing 2 night stay in a cabin with wonderful fall ambience. Being mid-week and off-season, it was practically just us at the whole resort. Although we could see the guest Wi-Fi network, I couldn't get any of our devices to successfully join. I didn't bring it to the front desk's attention. Cabins are super clean and newly freshened decor.

I traveled to West Michigan at last minute to attend a family member's memorial. Not really knowing where to stay I did a little search on Trip Advisor and came across The Dunes. I extended my stay a bit so I could explore and enjoy the area. The Saugatuck/Douglas area was a really nice spot, with great restaurants, awesome beach and this great spot, The Dunes! I didn't know until the day before my arrival that it was Mr. Michigan Leather weekend at The Dunes (was surprised I could get a room), so that made the weekend even more fun! I met some great, friendly people who included solo me in their groups and had an awesome time. Many hours at the pool, great bars (inside and out) that served pretty much everything available, music was really good and I enjoyed the DJ at the tea dance. Every team member was really nice and friendly - from the housekeepers to the bartenders. I was impressed how meticulously kept the property was, my room was spotless and comfortable. Will definitely be back for a bit more time, with better planning to enjoy the area!

Awesome place for LGBT+ community. The pool party was packed and the drinks were strong!

I've been visiting The Dunes Resort for over 20 years. The rooms are spacious and clean, the pool area is excellent with plenty of seating and a full bar. Great food is available from The Blue Frog and served to you wherever you are relaxing in the pool area. The Deck, Main Bar, Vinyl Lounge, The Club and The Show Bar offer something for everyone. You can't go wrong staying at The Dunes, especially since the entire staff is friendly and makes you feel right at home. I'd be hard pressed to say something negative about The Dunes. If you haven't been there, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

What a nightmare! My room smelled so badly of mold/mildew that it woke me up at night! When I spoke to the front desk I was literally laughed at and sent away! The room was so humid my sheets were moist. Disgusting! Friends of mine had a mouse in their room! There is no staff from 2am-9am so if you need something, you're out of luck! The resort is way too overpriced for this! Stay away!

I reserved two nights, 7, 8 Oct. 2024 at The Dunes Resort as a stop along a two-week road trip exploring the Great Lakes. We began our trip from Florida on 3 Oct. 2024. On 6 Oct. 2024 we became worried as Hurricane Milton was predicted to impact our home later that week. We felt we could not relax and enjoy our road trip with such worry about our home. I immediately cancelled all five of our accommodation reservations. None of the other reservationists penalized us by keeping a security deposit. Not so with The Dunes Resort, which penalized me by keeping my security deposit ($132.09). I am dismayed at The Dunes Resort's lack of understanding or regulation flexibility in such an unforeseen situation. As I finished my cancellation conversation with The Dunes Resort, their reservationist informed me that I would be losing my security deposit. I replied, "Let's hope that's all I'll lose!" referring to our house. The Resort posts their cancellation policy prominently. I am very disappointed there is no leeway for severe weather. We will re-take this trip again; however, I will likely steer clear of The Dunes Resort. CAVEAT EMPTOR

We spent a week in their cottage. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying their daily events at the bar and outside stage. It's a great place to stay to relax or enjoy the gay nightlife.

My friends and I stopped by here after hearing such wonderful and fun things about this place! Turns out it was drag show night which was SO GOOD. We all had a blast and it was definitely a highlight of our trip being here!

The Dunes is a fun Summer get away destination, especially on holiday weekends. I've always thought of the Tea Deck as a special place, there's nothing quite like it in the Midwest. With a cluster of mirror balls and fun holiday decorations, it's something everyone should experience. The indoor club features a good light show and sound system with plenty of room to dance to the sounds of an always impressive lineup of top DJ's. Theme weekends are crazy with decor and music that perfectly matches the events. The bartenders and staff are friendly and go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. The cocktails are perfect if not on the strong side with specials depending on the day. They offer accomodations to suit all price ranges. The pool is free and always a happening spot on hot Summer days. My suggestion, spend a few days in the Summer and you'll definitely be back!

6/2/19 The Dunes Resort is a LGBT Resort in Saugatuck, Michigan. I love the location and I love Saugatuck. It's a very LGBT friendly town. Lots of rainbow flags all around, which makes you feel comfortable if you don't have many towns like that. The Dunes Resort is a very nice place. Large pool and a big entertainment area where they put on shows and events. I went to the Dunes for a Womxn Weekend. Go Girl Saugatuck. I love this event. I love that the Dunes holds this event. However, outside of this event, the Dunes is about 80% men and 20% women and on Go Girl Weekend it's about 70% women and 30% men. It's nice for the change but I wish it was more 50/50 throughout the year but it's not. Maybe it's because most of their events throughout the year attract men. I am not sure but I would lean more towards that idea. Atmosphere: Clean, Love the rooms and pool area. The big event area is nice and colorful. I feel very safe there. Cost: It is kind of pricey, but it includes a lot of things in the cost plus it is in Saugatuck, so you are kind of paying for the town, being close to the beach, and in a nice area. The resort has nice rooms and lots to offer. Overall: I will give this place 4 stars. I wish it offered more events that target women but overall, it's nice and I will be going back to Go Girl.

Firstly, The only reason it's a four not a five yet is because I have not experienced their resort hotel rooms. I absolutely love that there's lots of free parking on property. There are lots of trees along the street to screen gawkers. We are usually here during the holidays which means tea dance parties. You enter by the main door and the dance music immediately takes you. The inside dance floor is immediately to the left when you enter. when you walk through the main bar, you can walk out into their adjoining pool area and an enormous two level open-air dance. This is where the Tea Dance magic happens, especially when there's a live DJ. There is a pool area (no glassware allowed in the area) and there is also a store for your souvenir and sexy look needs. We returned to the area after living away for along time. Weve been back a year now and give the resort our patronage relatively regular (every 2 weeks). It is a very cliquey scene. In the quieter months the patrons sit in their little groups and are not friendly with anyone outside their circle. The owners don't greet guests other than their select few favorites. The bartenders are all nice but most are young skinny guys. So if twinks are your thing, then you might like it. The complex itself is awesome. They have spent alot of money over the years on improvements. They do a nice job with a variety of events.

I visited the Dunes Resort recently for the first time. First star deduction thanks to the rude desk staff. Horrible wifi service gets the next star reduction and the last would be the uncomfortable rooms and horrible beds. Sleeping on the couch was more comfortable. The pool was great and the best part of the stay. Doubt I'll be back.

I came here last year to work on a play I wrote. It was a critical success (which means we had small audience, but responsive, audience. Why question a good thing? So I'm back, working on rewrites of my latest play . Thank you Dunes for being my writers retreat.

So my review is based on the bar and cabaret. It's really well done and to fully appreciate it you needs to experience on a summer weekend (not to say the off-season can't be fun... it can). They have a cabaret with wonderful singers and lounge acts, a great open air dance floor which is grand and houses their Sunday tea dances...which for me is their highlight. They also feature an indoor dance floor, bathing suit shop, pool table and other nooks. I have to say I find it an major upgrade over any of the Chicago bars...it really offers an all-in-one experience. I haven't ever stayed in the rooms so can't speak for that but from a bar and entertainment standpoint I really enjoy it.

For the most part I've enjoyed coming to the resort. However, I won't be going to Drag Queen Bingo anymore. Nicholas is nasty and mouthy to me. I don't find this entertaining or acceptable behavior. I've never done anything to him to deserve this. I extend kindness to everyone. However, I'm not paying to have someone treat me badly. Other than this, the resort seems good so far. I plan on returning for New Years Eve.

Hmmmm....could learn a two or three (or 4) about "RESORT"! Seedy rooms and pretty bad service! Came from LA and well...left us wondering..."they like this in the Midwest???" OK...but WHY? Our bartender Donnie was great!! Very attentive and friendly! Didn't realize who we were...which was the best! But kept saying..."I know you from somewhere!" Anyway...went to St. Joseph and had a blast with Chicago friends!!!

Overall their service is good from people like bartenders and other sorts of staff. But they did a hugely unethical thing with their club this weekend. My friend has a PPO against someone, which are hard to get! You can't get them unless you have a serious reason and VALID reason to. One of the receptionists while my friend was checking in TOLD him that the person he had a PPO against (which, my friend doesn't know him. So this receptionist is telling people that other people are staying there...) they also told my friend that if this person violated the PPO (personal protection order, also known as restraining orders, just in case you didn't know) and he called the police to take care of it, they'd BOTH be banned for life and wouldn't get refunds. They then allowed people to scream at my friend to the point of tears. Even the officers thought that the situation was BS. So, TLDR, they threatened my friend that if he reported a crime against him, he would be banned for life with no refund. How messed up is that? All because they're friends with the guy. The owner is mean and unprofessional.

This is a true gem for us in the mid-west! The cottages are great (esp. if you get one with outdoor hot tub) The community pool / social space is the daytime highlight, as the outdoor dance floor is the evening hotspot. The staff is really friendly, the owners have done a great job staffing.

This place is "unique" to say the least and I had a surprisingly good time here over Labor Day 2008. My friend Brian ("That Brian" from Detroit) and I headed down here for a fun filled weekend of cute boys and swimming. Saugatuck, MI is not where I would have expected a busy gay resort, but sure enough that's exactly what we found. The main building has several bars and a giant sound system. Hundreds of guys are dancing outside and inside or sitting in the cabaret (featuring live music, not a drag show to my disappointment). There's fun to be had everywhere and I'll definitely be back if I'm ever up in the area.

Had a fabulous time at the dunes. Room was nice and clean, great music at the pool, and kind bartenders! Cabaret show was very entertaining. Will definitely be back!

This place is essentially the dance club to be during Labor Day weekend. In fact, I think it is the only gay dance club to be in Saugatuck/Douglas. The decor is really nice both outdoors and indoors. I think it would have been interesting to get a room at this resort although since we already had a cabin, we just came here for the clubbing. I think on Saturday night, we went to the cabaret room where they had this comedian named Amy on stage that sang some great tunes. She was excellent. My expectations for this place was exceeded by the quality of the venue. The dancing and music were phenominal and the drinks were reasonably priced although the hefty $15 entrance fee was a little absorbent. I cannot comment on the rooms or the woods that many people affectionally call it because I didn't go there but it seems like there are many things and people to do in the Dunes.

I rented a cabin in September to relax and get away. The serving and cleaning staff were great. The management was awful. I had a problem with my cabin. As I asked for it it be corrected, the owner and manager were rude, demeaning , and dismissive. I'll never go back.

Simply Fabulous! A great place for Gay men to stay and have a great time. The accommodations couldn't be better and the staff genuinely committed to providing you with the best service. A well manicured and landscaped grounds, superb restaurant, bar, swimming pool, lots of parking, Sunday tea dances and a cruisy back wooded 40 all add up to a great Gay time. Highly recommended! Always love coming here!

The Dunes Resort is a place we should all be proud of. The owners try very hard to provide different venues to accommodate all of it's patrons. Whether you prefer laying by the pool, being entertained by various talent in the Cabernet, dancing to top dj's, or just hanging out, the Dunes provides each of these. For those that choose to criticize The Dunes, the owners, or any of their excellent staff I suggest you first critique yourself. Your attitude, or too much liquor may cloud your judgement. We are lucky to have such a wonderful place that we can all visit and feel comfortable. For anyone that hasn't had the opportunity to visit The Dunes, please do so. You will have a wonderful time and look forward to your next visit.

I have the best time here. It's a comfortable resort. Great place to go to if you want a quick getaway trip. Perfect place for a group vacation as well. So bring you best friends. I've only been here twice, but my experience has been nothing but good & fun. I made good friends with most of the workers here as well. They are oh so sweet, caring, & helpful. I'd come back as many times as possible.

The area is beautiful, the staff are charming, the patrons are delightful, the music was thumping, and the rates are reasonable. This resort will fulfill your gayest dreams. I went during Independence Day week and was one of 7 women there: the rest are a bunch of lovely and beautiful gay men. Not LGBTQ? No worries: enjoy the company, make some new friends and dance your face off. The only downside to this resort is the food: not a lot of options and it is basically fast food. The rooms were kept clean and plenty of towels are provided.

I was at The Dunes and in Saugatuck for the first time this year during "Christmas in July". OMG, so much fun! The guys were amazing (guys = staff and patrons) and it's the guys that make a good resort great. After all, the reason why we go to a gay resort is for the men, right? Large pool, may options for dance, drinking and socializing. The hotel room was very clean. I was in a "King Jr." and it was spacious. The only negative thing is that they don't allow room charges at the bar and they won't let you run a tab on your credit card. I definitely plan to return.

Decided to stay a couple of nights at the Dunes (a gay men's resort) on our way between Chicago and Detroit. It's my first visit to Saugatuck-Douglas. The two towns are charming but, despite their billing, not exactly Provincetown or Fire Island (except maybe on weekends). During the week it's quieter, but very nice. The Dunes is just fine. Our room (32) is spacious, with a comfortable king size bed and a generous bathroom with a big shower stall and a small fridge. Cable TV. The WiFi is free, but VERY spotty. It's a real struggle to stay connected! The pool is very nice, with lots of chaises and a poolside bar. My BF (who's a tall, hot Brazilian) has already been hit on, to his delight! On these weekdays the pool has been quiet in the morning, but pretty busy in the afternoon. The bar/disco is large and is probably packed on weekends. There's take out food service. Directly across the road from the resort is the Kalico Kitchen, which serves generous breakfasts and typical American food all day long. There are a number of other restaurants in the area, which is fairly small and compact, so it's easy to get around. From the Dunes it's only a few minutes to the famous Oval Beach on Lake Michigan -- a long stretch of sand backed by dunes and bluffs. It's all parkland, so it's well preserved and a delightful place to tan and swim! We'll be back, I'm sure!

I guess I am in the minority but this is one place that I would never stay again....really...the only place I have felt this way about. I spent one weekend there and was bored. It is really loud with guys setting up a party in the parking lot and when I say loud....I mean that you could hear them all over the campus...clearly. I like to have a party but you don't need to be THAT loud. It wasn't all that fun of place either. I had another weekend scheduled with them and came back to Chicago and cancelled that reservation. I did it over a month in advance and got charged $50 for canceling. Yes...that is in their stated policy. Just beware. The day after your reserve a room...if you cancel...even up to months in advance they charge you $50. I have never had a hotel do that before. Just MAKE SURE you are going and won't have to cancel. Something positive, it is a great location.

This famous gay resort in Douglas was remodeled by new owners a few years ago and much improved. A very nice main bar, with attached dance floor, pool room, and cabaret room. When we visited there were strippers several nights a week, a cookout on Wednesday afternoon, cabaret on Thursday, and a tea dance on Sunday afternoon. Its proximity to Chicago, Grand Rapids, and Detroit means that weekends are CRAZY here but the eye candy is not to be missed. Dancing mostly Fr/Sa/Su. Strippers were straight and expect more than a few local women to show up and monopolize their attention. Oh well! We didn't stay here but the website lists a variety of small to large hotel rooms, some suites, and some cabins. Prices vary by season and size of space--expect Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day to come at a premium. Positive: the pool is basically open to the public. Bring your own towel and hang out. You can now reserve a cabana if you want guaranteed seating in the shade. If you don't want to be ogled by 60 year-olds in speedos, then you shouldn't wear your Pistol Pete square cut--though the hotties didn't seem to mind! However, it seems like the filtration system is not working right as the water is very cloudy. Not sure it poses a health hazard but I made sure to shower after swimming. Yes, yes, yes there is a cruisy 'wooded' area behind the old hotel building where a variety of delights await the desperate and less discriminating. Wear your rubbers boys!

Nice club. Great music Saturday July 13. Had fun but also had some of the worst drinks ever. I asked for a fuzzy navel. I was asked what kind of juice I wanted. A fuzzy navel is always peach schnapps and oj. At least where I'm from it is. This had vodka couldn't taste any peach and oj was very watered down. My second drink was rum and coke. I think I got vodka and coke or it was the worst rum ever. Another drink was sex on the beach. I have no idea how he made it. Tasted nothing like a sex on the beach. Other then the bad drinks we would go back. I think I would just stick to water or coke.

Great Sunday Tea! Bar staff on the deck were awesome. Very friendly and always there when we needed a drink and a smile. Great Sunday!

We had a wonderful time staying at The Dunes this weekend! Noe (who is the only one in charge of webervations) was absolutely wonderful in dealing with me. He went over all of the rooms that were available, switched my dates for me (I booked the wrong dates... clearly, I needed the vacation)... I'd have been lost without him! My boyfriend and I spent the entire weekend at The Dunes, checking out the local cities by day and hitting the club at night (you're comped free passes if you stay at the resort). The room was super clean and well decorated, right down to the alarm clock with rainbow colored numbers. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Noe suggested we stay Sunday for Drag Queen Bingo - we had so much fun! Drink specials were great and the proceeds to go charity! I didn't want to leave! We plan to come back this summer with some friends and rent one of the cottages! Thank you all so much for such a fun weekend! PS - My boyfriend and I are a straight couple. He had a great time, and so did I. You'll have so much more fun at this resort than some other stuffy hotel!

Visiting Michigan for the first time, and are used to stay at gay resorts around the world. So I had to try this out. Accommodation is really nice, fantastic pool area, friendly staff members, and nice bars with lots of activities during the week and weekends. I would not hesitate to come back and stay here again. Really enjoyed my time here.

Lots of fun, but only because it's the only game in town. Who trains their employees? Evidently nobody. Never a thank you nor any appreciation for spending one's money there. I don't drink and drive. So, after a long day in the sun with plenty of cocktails I asked a handsome bartender to call me a cab. Was told, "I don't know the number". Really? After tipping more than 40% he can't even find me a number nor call me a cab? Shitty service and employees that are less than grateful is the rule it seems. Sad. It seems they simply rest upon the fact the fact that they are the only gay spot in town. I will still go, but will bring my hip flask as it seems it all about money and not service.

Love the Dunes! Cabret in the back, out door dancing, speedo shop, pool tables, pool parties, and rooms too boot? Sign me up every time I'm in Michigan! Cover is usually only $5 and I get single $20s out of the ATM all of the time. And where I'm from, 1 drink is $20 so i find the prices VERY cheap!

I've been coming to the Dunes for at least fifteen years, back when it was originally the Douglas Dunes under original ownership. The new owners have done a great job remodeling the bar areas and the outdoor spaces, and the new motel building is a nice addition. My partner and I usually come up at least twice during the summer for Memorial Day and/ or Fourth of July, and this year we've visited twice during the winter season. During holiday summer weekends the place is packed, during the winter (as you might expect) the motel portion is nearly empty and the bar may have fifty people on a Sat night. It's nice to visit during the off season just to get away from the city for a night or two, and the town is always nice... great little stores, a nearby vineyard in Fenville, and the drive isn't bad. The older motel portion could use updating and on a busy weekend it won't be a quiet stay, but that's not what you wanted anyway, is it?

My third stay at The Dunes and I hope everyone's gets a chance to experience this resort. Always clean and well maintained. The friendly staff makes this place a must visit. Try one of their theme parties or Sunday Teas.

We have visited thr Dunes Resort four times now.... We like it.... Great staff.... Nice room each time.....always clean... Drinks in Bar could be stronger...! A outdoor communal sitting area in the landscape shaded are would be a nice alternative to sitting outside your room or the pool deck...The undrinking socialization spot might be appreciated by more than myself... All in all I like the Dunes... Good Job...!

You will be ripped off! We stayed in the basement (Dunes rooms) and my handicapped friend had some $200 cash stolen either from our room "18" or when he was in the shower. He also had a blue diamond ring stolen at another point in our 3 day stay. I believe it was a guy "Peter" that claimed to be staying their with his "uncle". He found out what room you were staying in and then barged in without knocking, more than once. I am about 100 miles closer to 3 campgrounds, The Point, Freedom Valley, and Creek Ridge. I believe that the drag queen that treats the entrance to the place like her own "54" also could be pocketing money if anyone were stupid enough to pay a $20 cover. We did lose our entrance passes. The place recognized my friend in drag, but simply would not allow me access. I AM DONE WITH THIS PLACE FOR GOOD! Management will take you for every dime they can get from you... $150 for a day's use of a cabana, and then not recognize you the next day. Take your some $450 and throw it into the wind, you are likely to get a better return. I have never had a problem with theft at any of the other gay places I have mentioned. Love it there. Great pool and dancing! Summer Sunday patio bar b que is so much fun.

I had a great time. Staff is great! The bar doesn't do tabs but they do take credit cards. They now do food at the pool and room service and prices are reasonable. The talent at the Cabaret was excellent. The dancers were straight but very HOT and friendly. Tea Dance was extremelt popular with men driving an hour each way to be there.

This is a great place is you are in the mood for strange! All the colors of the rainbow end up at the Dunes. The music was right on. I think they have a DJ but not on the Friday night that I was here. The patio is huge and there is a lot going on in the bar and in the back lot. Good time is had by all if you have an open mind and loose lips.

Seems ok. Nothing really fancy about the parking lot. The extra parking area in the back is famous for being able to cruise for some playtime.

I paid for a 2 bedroom cabin with a hot tub and got a one bedroom cabin with a terrible pull out couch. The reciept they emailed me doesn't list the actual room type, so they said that's what I reserved and dismissed me.
