Google
Really good breakfast with fresh and high-quality ingredients. What I liked about this cafe is that they have an open kitchen, so you get to see the chefs preparing the dishes. The coffee was excellent, in my opinion. It was made of really good quality beans! My breakfast was outstanding. The poached eggs were cooked to perfection, so gooey! The bread was so tasty and crunchy, and so was the Cumberland sausage! The service was really good and extremely attentive. I would recommend booking in advance as it's a small place with limited seating, and it gets quite busy.

Google
Stopped in for a quick lunch and initially wasn’t impressed by the menu but boy was I wrong. Absolutely delicious and extremely fresh. Ordered the potato and leek soup of the day and chicken “salad” type sandwich and the cold smoked seat trout. Both were huge sandwiches and extremely delicious and filling. Would highly recommend and would come back next time we are in Edinburgh.

Google
great food! absolutely delicious. i first came 6 years ago and the quality hasn’t changed since. the atmosphere is great but loud for those sensitive to noise. also you NEED to make a reservation.. it’s really hard to get in otherwise - there’s always a line out the door. but overall the food is superb and they have gluten free bread which is delicious as well!

Google
Good spot for the breakfast. Very delicious and fresh ingredients. Highly recommend the Hash. Coffee was also very tasty. There was a line while we were there but waited around 15 minutes. If you are in a rush I think you can skip this place since we waited too long for the food also which I think is normal since it was too busy.

Rachel Adamkowski

Google
We didn’t have a reservation but they manage to keep the line moving very quickly! When we were seated we still never felt rushed or pushed to leave. The food was fantastic, especially the benedicts & waffle! The matcha deserves an honorable mention because it was absolutely delicious! Staff was very friendly!

Google
Fantastic breakfast experience! Everything was delicious and promptly served. We got a table right away, and the staff was quick and polite. My only small note is that it can get a bit crowded during busy times due to the small space.

Zoe

Google
Everything was great from start to finish, lovely staff and perfect service. We weren’t waiting long either for a table, and were served quickly. Great menu and options, and the food and coffee was lovely. The only one thing we didn’t appreciate, is the metal tins. Giving how much we’re paying for and a service fee, it would have been nice to be served on an actual plate. Nonetheless it was worth a visit!

Google
The Edinburgh Larder is a fantastic spot just off the Royal Mile. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality local ingredients. I loved the relaxed vibe and friendly service. A great place for brunch—highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is great! Breakfast, teas and coffee done well. I Ordered the hash it was prepared excellently. Son had Full Scottish looked like a lot a deliciousness. Place had a nice vibe and the service was amazing.

Yelp
This restaurant is not the best. We came here because there were longer lines at neighboring places. But when I asked for poached eggs with one of the orders instead of scrambled, I was met with a very short "we don't do substitutions." But when I asked for no mushrooms on my avocado toast, they were able to accommodate that. The avocado toast had no flavor and it was hard to finish. In fact I didn't eat more than half of it. Everyone else thought their food was fine, nothing spectacular.

Yelp
We arrived to a short line. You don't have to put your name in, just wait in line and they will come ask you how many are in your party and get you seated. Even though there was a line, we only waited maybe 10-15 minutes. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered a latte and my husband ordered a hot chocolate, both were very good and beautiful to boot! My husband got the full Scottish breakfast which he very much enjoyed. I ordered the hash and it was delicious as well as a work of art! The hash is larger than it looks and I couldn't finish it all. It had a beautiful and perfectly done poached egg on top. The pickled red cabbage really gave the hash a nice crispness. The interior is country themed and it's a vibe as the kids say. Definitely a meal worth your time.

Yelp
Really loved our breakfast here. My boyfriend and I both got the kilted eggs, which comes with haggis, black pudding, and hollandaise sauce. HIGHLY recommend. It was the perfect amount of food, and I'd order it again in a heartbeat. If you've never tried haggis, this is a great place to do it. The line can get a few parties deep, so expect a wait. We waited about 15 minutes before we were let inside the Little Larder, which is the smaller dining area next door to the main restaurant. Friendly service, great coffee, delicious food. The perfect place for breakfast in Edinburgh.

Yelp
I walked in a few minutes to 3:00 on a Friday and some bearded guy at the restaurant puts his hand up tells me to stop from entering and that they are closed, even though the place was full of people. All I wanted was a coffee and this guy never even gave me the chance to ask for it. So rude.
google avatar

Yelp
Seating is at a premium in here so it's smart to book ahead! Very nice atmosphere, though it gets a bit chilly from the door opening and closing. Very nice drinks here, I loved the option of a non-caffeine latte and turmeric seemed very unique. The hash was excellent -- nice cured fish, extremely well-cooked potatoes, and loved the horseradish cream sauce. Full Scottish was tasty, with the favorite being the haggis. I doubt you can go wrong with anything on the menu here. Everything we saw going to other tables looked delicious, too.

Yelp
Edinburgh Larder is a cozy brunch spot quite close to the Royal Mile. Got there a few minutes after opening, and waited a bit for them to open the second building (they have 2 buildings next to each other that allows for higher capacity). Service was quick and the wait staff was kind and personable, striking up conversation. Ranked high on "service with a smile"! Ordered 2 Oatmilk Cappuccino's and an Eggs Florentine. Everything seemed to be cooked to order, but well worth the bit of a wait. Definitely recommend stopping by this spot while you visit Edinburgh!

Yelp
First off, I've read several reviews on Yelp saying the food portions are small. All in my party found the portions to be quite adequate so no problem unless packing in a gut busting meal is your thing. The service was quite nice. Our server Ben and the manager Diego were both more than hospitable. The Porridge was divine as well as the eggs florentine. The Haggis side was superb as well. Such a great all around experience!
google avatar

Kimi L.

Yelp
Best breakfast in town! I had the full Scottish brekkie and my partner had the waffles. It was delicious! Service was great! The environment was cozy and lovely. The wait was not very long! The coffee was also good! We will be returning!
google avatar

Sian S.

Yelp
This place was great! Some of our favorite food from our trip. Haggis was exceptional and blood pudding pretty good. Matcha was great. Portions were great and filling. Forgot the name of the other dish we ordered (smoked trout) but also thoroughly enjoyed that! Make a reservation so you don't have to wait in the cold for a table (that was our fault).

Yelp
I think Edinburgh Larder has one of the best breakfasts in the world; and, I do mean that literally. If I lived in Edinburgh, I'd be here weekly. When I visit, I always come on my first and last day, and always for the same thing: the Vegan Breakfast with a side of housemade brown sauce and an iced Americano with oat milk. The Vegan Breakfast features roasted flat mushroom, blistered cherry tomatoes that burst when you bite into them, rich vegan black pudding, melt-in-your-mouth vegan haggis, wilted herbed spinach, homemade beans that are just the right amount of saucy, granary toast drizzled with olive oil, and a potato scone. It's so colorful, there are so many interesting textures, it's abundantly flavorful, and comes heaped on a plate that has barely enough room for each individual component. It's consistently delicious and filling, and absolutely impossible to recreate at home. I dream about this meal. (Important details to know: currently, reservations - which you really need to have - are £5. They hold your table for ten minutes before they release it to whomever is waiting in line at the door. Your reservation is good for one hour; the front and back of house work super seamlessly, so you'll have plenty of time. The breakfast menu is served all day. They operate on a cashless basis. They add a discretionary 12.5% service charge to all tables.)

Yelp
Cool little spot to grab a bite to eat! Ordered the full Scottish breakfast and was not disappointed! The haggis and black pudding were excellent. I asked for a side of the hollandaise sauce *chef's kiss* Overall I enjoyed the food and the laid back vibe of the place. The kitchen is next door so the servers bring the food in covered tin containers. Affordable and quick breakfast with quality ingredients.

Yelp
The Edinburgh Larder serves Scottish country cooking in a cozy cafe atmosphere, and they pride themselves on quality ingredients and making every dish to order. For breakfast, we started with the creamy Oat Milk Porridge, made of Scottish oats topped with roasted apples and granola. While tasty, the simple porridge didn't seem worth its price tag. Next, we had the Veggie Breakfast, a vegetarian version of the Full Scottish Breakfast, which came with roasted portobello mushrooms, blistered cherry tomatoes, wilted spinach, beans, vegan black pudding, veggie haggis (made of oats, lentils, seeds, and nuts), a poached egg, potato scone (flatbread), and granary toast with butter. My favorite part of the set was the mushrooms, which had a flavorful marinade and meaty texture, but most of the other items were on the bland side. Nevertheless, this popular restaurant made for a nice breakfast stop, and the service was slow but friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients from local suppliers and the flavors come through. Customer service is excellent but you do have to wait to enjoy the food. The eggs Benedict royale had smoked trout, caught nearby and it was creamier than the salmon from back home. My wife has the Scottish breakfast sampling a variety of flavors. There was a 10% coupon that was not honored because yelp is not I. Business here according to the manager. Still worth coming

Yelp
Breakfast was excellent - took the Hash option and the side of Haggis - and if there is a place to try this for the first time - this is it. It was excellent and went so well with the meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Such an incredible brunch spot in Edinburgh. We got the mushroom toast and the full Scottish breakfast. The turmeric latte was also delicious. Our servers were super nice and friendly. It's small so you definitely need a reservation.

Yelp
We enjoyed this place so much we went twice in the 4 mornings we had in Edinburgh. There is two buildings and we ended up in the Little Larder the first time. The team moves fast so the line looked like it moved pretty quickly. We were lucky both times to get in right away. I got the eggs Florentine both times and my fiancé got the waffle both times. He also got the banana loaf both times as well which was on their daily specials board. We got coffee drinks the second time we went as well. My eggs Florentine was cooked well with the poach egg runny when you cut it open. The bread was toasty and good. Everyone is very friendly that works there as well. I'm glad I stumbled upon this place through Yelp!

Yelp
Such a great place to experience authentic Scottish breakfast. This place is small so make sure you get a reservation. Perfect place for breakfast/brunch. This place was a nice walk from my hotel and enjoyed getting to see Edinburgh waking up. The staff is super friendly and service is quick. I tried the traditional Scottish breakfast that included haggis and blood sausage. It was okay, I can say that I've tried it but everything else was delicious. As far as the Haggis and blood sausage, it was nicely prepared but I do think it's an acquired taste. I spoke to other travelers and they seem to enjoy Haggis. Definitely try it yourself, you may really enjoy it.

Yelp
Lovely breakfast spot! Tasty menu and great service! We had the eggs Benedict and full Scottish breakfast! Very filling!
google avatar

Marcie L.

Yelp
This place is super cute & in a great area. The food was fresh & delicious. The prices are a little high, and the service is a bit slow, but I loved my meal.
google avatar

Jeffrey W.

Yelp
I had the Eggs Benedict here...wow. It was served in a tin of sorts. Very small place. Maybe it is an extension of the main restaurant? This is a place not to be missed.
google avatar

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Best breakfast I've ever had. Excellent service. They've got vegan, vegetarian, and meat options. I had the vegan haggis and it was incredible. The coffee was delicious too. It's a small building so reserve in advance!
google avatar

Yelp
We were sightseeing in Edinburgh and wanted some food. Our daughter had eaten here and wanted us to experience it. We didn't have a reservation, so we had to wait outside for a short time, but the wait wasn't long for five people. My husband and I shared the full breakfast and the Taste of Scotland lunch plate. What a delightful variety of items, presented so beautifully! There were too many items to list all of them, but a few of my favorites were the cheeses, bread, salad, mustard, and potato scones. A couple of us ordered drinks--a matcha latte that was beautiful, and a spicy red beverage. The staff was all friendly and attentive, in spite of being super busy. I'd highly recommend this little restaurant if you're ever in Edinburgh, Scotland.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome staff and a very quaint atmosphere. The food and service were spot on. Food was plentiful and Delicious. Very easy to find and the little Larder is first come first served. The Big Larder takes reservations. We were there on a Monday and it filled quickly.

Yelp
Fantastic, low-key food. Just off the royal mile and popular, but not touristy this place delivers really nice food including a healthy dose of much-needed vegetables. They're also super friendly and have a few kid-friendly options. We showed up here after landing, checking into our hotel, and barely staggering over. We didn't have a reservation (booking), but they still sat the four of us almost instantly. We got coffee, which was well above average and then food. The kids got waffles with syrup and bacon both times we came and they ate it happily, but what's not to like. They also got apple juice, which was unfiltered and looked fresh. It tasted amazing and not too sweet. Between the two times we came, my wife and I got the hash, taste of Scotland plate, full breakfast, and pastrami sandwich. They were all great, but I think the sandwich and the taste of Scotland plate came in at the top. The taste of Scotland plate came with two slabs of delicious bread, two kinds of smoked salmon, a bunch of cheese, some small crackers, a chutney and some beetroot pesto. The whole thing just delivered and was enough food to make me full. The pastrami sandwich was less of a Reuben than I expected, but was delicious with melted cheese between slices of pastrami on delicious bread. The full breakfast was good for a full Scottish breakfast, but not anything particularly special. The hash was really good with potatoes and salmon, but just not as good as the taste of Scotland plate. To top things off they also have a few local beers from the Edinburgh Beer Factory, which weren't amazing, but good to see.
google avatar

Elyse S.

Yelp
My husband and I ate here in October 2023. While there was a line to get into the somewhat small space, it actually wasn't too long, and the nutritious, delicious food made the wait worth it. I believe my husband got a full Scottish breakfast, and I got a dish with potatoes and salmon. My mocha was especially tasty, as well.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
We actually ate next store at The Little Larder, but same menu. Out of the four places we have eaten for breakfast, this is the best Scottish breakfast I have had. First time I have had blood pudding and it was really good along with the best haggis I've had here, Perfectly spiced. The staff was friendly and prompt. You must come wat here!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

M R.

Yelp
The breakfast here was SOOOOO good. Totally worth it just for the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. My goodness! The Hollandaise is perfectly cooked, the poached eggs likewise and the ham is to die for. Deliciousness. Great service also.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
I've had two full Scottish breakfasts since I've been in the UK and this is the best one in the entire country. It was amazing, delicious and fresh. My wife had eggs Benedict and it was also amazing.
google avatar

Kathleen L.

Yelp
One of my favorite meals while in Edinburgh! So simple, yet so fresh and tasty. I knew when trying to discover which restaurants I wanted to eat at, that this was a must for breakfast. Despite not being able to secure a reservation, I headed out early one morning and only had to wait about 15-20 minutes to be seated in the main restaurant. Service was excellent, I was not rushed despite there being lots of patrons waiting for tables which goes a long way in my book. I got the eggs Benedict with a side of sausage and balsamic mushrooms. If you are looking for a breakfast spot, this is it. Try to make a reservation, but if not, just get here early. It's worth the wait.

Mayra R.

Yelp
The food was okay - not bad but nothing memorable. The restaurant itself was nice and very open which was nice. Only downside was that we lost about an hour and half waiting. It took forever to take our order, longer to get our food and surprisingly longer to get our check. Honestly, the loss of time is what's running this review today.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
The food here is one of the best breakfast places we ate it while in Edinburgh for two weeks. The full breakfast had the best presentation and great flavors. The service was good even for being busy we were still waited on and didn't feel forgotten about at all. The restaurant had a ambiance for breakfast, small yet inviting. We ate here 3 times during our 2 week stay in Edinburgh and will keep coming back because the food and everything here is worth it!
google avatar

Walt M.

Yelp
They take bookings, but our party of three managed to get in for brunch after a short wait. I am an eggs Benedict aficionado. From NYC, to LA, Finland to N'awlins, I try it everywhere I go. And my family can whip up a mighty fine Benedict ourselves. This was hands down the best version of that dish I've ever had. Fresh homemade bread. Perfect sauce. Lemon wedges without asking. Tabasco on the tables. Farm fresh locally sourced, crispy bacon. Egg done to perfection. Local greens. Wow. Servers are universally friendly in Edinburgh it seems, but even the service stood out here. Highly recommend. PS - fresh squeezed OJ and fresh-pressed apple juice!
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Make sure you have reservations for this place before you come here. There's always a wait here. They charge you £5 for a reservation, and they'll take it off your bill once you eat there. We ordered the hash and the porridge and both were great. They also have a selection of bennies to choose from. If you come after noon, you can order their Scottish plate.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
I recommend getting a reservation! But if you don't, walk ins available next door- but there may be a wait. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food- I would highly recommend the hash with salmon and salsa verde. Great coffee. Lovely ambience. Nothing but good things to say!
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
For those who aren't familiar, this place has two locations right next to one another. One location accommodates walk-ins (queue line is outside the door) and one location is for those with reservations. If you are looking at the building, the left entrance is for walk-ins, and the right door is for reservations. Anyway, staff was friendly, and our hash and full breakfast tasted pretty good. It was good but not the best breakfast we enjoyed in Edinburgh. Minus one star for lack of comfort too. We sat on tiny stools that certainly didn't make us want to stay for very long. Wish they offered a coat rack during cooler months. You have to eat with all of your layers on since there isn't a seat back to sling your coat on.

Andrew Goodman ..

Yelp
The Eggs Benedict were delicious, the latte excellent, and the service friendly without being intrusive. Best breakfast I've had here during the Fringe Festival, which has also been amazing.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
The Edinburgh Larder is a popular brunch joint in Edinburgh's old town. The full Scottish breakfast is sure to fill you up! Though it's sadly missing any haggis. The ambiance is cozy, and the staff are friendly. There are two locations right next door, so if one has a wait, check the neighbor.
google avatar

Kelly E.

Yelp
So good I ate there twice, two breakfasts in a row. Food is so fresh and well prepared. I recommend reservations. First time I got there at 11 and was seated immediately, but it filled fast with lunch crowd. Second time I got there before 9 and it was packed. Was able to get a table at the little larder but right after that, walk ins were on a wait. 100% recommended
google avatar

Jenna M.

Yelp
This place was so good we ate here twice while visiting Scotland from USA. Great for solo travelers or small groups. We shared a scone with clotted cream and homemade jam and it was scrumptious. I had the hash (both visits, it was that good) with added mushrooms. It was "lick the plate" good. Had lovely chats both times with the service staff.
google avatar

Drea W.

Yelp
Great ambiance, extremely friendly service. Good was pretty tasty. Came twice already on our trip. Would come back again.

Brad C.

Yelp
TLDR - Rude staff and nothing special so don't waste your time. We went for lunch based on positive reviews. It was packed so we were asked to wait outside for 5 minutes while a table was about to leave. A table freed up so I went and started to sit but was again asked to wait OUTSIDE until they cleared the table. Another 10 minutes went by standing in the street and being ignored by the manger ... so I mentioned to one of the waitstaff it felt like we were being ignored. Instead of apologizing the manager came out with a massive attitude and informed us he was pacing the service so we not be waiting once we sat. ONCE they sat us ... THEN we would receive superior service. He then turned and stormed off happy to lose the business it seems. Unbelievable how rude the guy was when you have so much competition all around you and other cafe's who were much friendlier and happy to have your business. The couple behind us in line also chose to leave after hearing how the manager talked to us.
google avatar

G P.

Yelp
Great location for this local-vore breakfast spot. Best Scottish breakfast we had during our trip.

Bruce W.

Yelp
We found this place for breakfast on our first morning in Edinburgh and ended up doing four consecutive meals there. Very good food and great service in a comfortably casual space just off the Royal Mile. You may see a line to get in but it's worth the wait.

Christa C.

Yelp
Amazing full Scottish breakfast. As someone who has never had black pudding or haggis, I was very impressed.
google avatar

Raphael S.

Yelp
This is a busy little Cafe with amazing food. I got there around 11 am on a Saturday and there was a queue outside. But I was seated in a few minutes. They have a long table where single customers are seated. We play with our phones and read our books while waiting for our food. The food is delivered in little metal boxes, which is not only kitschy in a good way but also keeps your food warm. It's loud, to be sure, but worth braving for the food. I had a fish meal, but there are traditional Scottish breakfasts as well as vegan options. If you come to Edinburgh, give this place a try!
google avatar

Aarikha D.

Yelp
Excellent brunch. We tried this spot as our first meal in Scotland and the Scottish breakfast, waffles did not disappoint
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Three of us went and all of us enjoyed our meals. I had the Scottish breakfast and my friends had the eggs Benedict and porridge. Everything was wonderful. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Sydney S.

Yelp
Hearty, healthy breakfast. Great vegetarian haggis! Delicious porridge. Friendly atmosphere and server was very sweet. Will definitely come back!
