11 ways to enjoy Penang on your next visit - SilverKris

"A restored colonial mansion-turned-hotel that immerses guests in Peranakan patterned tilework, cast-iron columns and ornate bedroom headboards to evoke the city’s colonial past; its central location in George Town places cultural and heritage hotspots, including an iconic blue mansion and lively precincts like Little India and Chulia Street, within easy walking distance." - SilverKris

The traditional craftsmen of George Town in Penang - SilverKris

"A restored colonial‑era hotel on the northern edge of central George Town that has been given a new lease of life after years of decline (it formerly operated as the Cathay Hotel and even as a brothel). The renovation emphasizes airy interiors and period details—wrought iron, teak, marble and old tiles—to recapture the feel of old residential mansions, a vision promoted by the property's management as a sensitive revival rather than a wholesale remake." - Nicholas Walton

I am ruined. I didn't know what to expect but I will never want to stay anywhere else in George Town or perhaps anywhere again. There is a reason The Edison is currently ranked #3 of all the hotels i George Town. This is a great example of the benefit/beauty of the Hilton/SLH partnership. What an exquisite hotel/building but you can have a beautiful building and if the staff are not great, it means nothing. At the Edison, you will not have that problem. I received letters of welcome/introduction prior to arriving, then was greeted so warmly by Albert and Aaron at the front desk and continued to be cared for attentively and genuinely throughout our too short stay. One example of their attentiveness - I went for a swim one afternoon and after getting out of the pool a towel and drink were waiting for me poolside. The staff notice and are proactive and seem genuine in their care for guests and love for their jobs and Penang. I cannot say enough good things about this place - the aesthetics of this restored building are hard to capture completely in words , add in free drinks and snacks all day long in addition to a delightful breakfast, espresso machines in your rooms, refilled glass water bottles, very little plastic waste... If you have stayed here, you have experienced something genuinely special. Don't even hesitate to book one night or as many nights as you can.

You cannot fault the service here. Everyone is there to help you make your stay better. My husband is a little mobility challenged so we stayed on the lower floor which was fine, only a few steps to get into the building. Breakfast is simple but all you need. Rooms are in an older style as would be expected in a heritage building, but has plenty of character. The only downside is the very noisy AC which you get used to; a bit like a white noise machine! I thought it was a windy night/storm outside but it was fine once you get used to it. Close to all the sights. Became a home away from home with the all day snack lounge. If you like super modern, then this is not for you. If you like a bit of character and attentive service, then you will love this place!

We had a wonderful three nights stay at the Edison. We were greeted at reception with friendly and very helpful reception staff. The room was very comfortable with a large comfortable bed in a boutique style hotel. The staff could not be more friendly (especially Albert who went above and beyond)and more helpful giving us tips on restaurants, places to go and showing us on a map where all the amenities and tourist attractions were in the city. There was no problem with ordering taxis to the airport and even getting tickets to a couple of the attractions when we were unable to get tickets online..|Breakfast was limited but eggs prepared “as I like it”. |The refreshments were always available without extra charge. Nice happy hour 6-7pm with x1 free glass of wine. ||Would stay again

Albert and team extended their welcome even before our stay, with recommendations and offered to help with some bookings. Our stay was relaxing with a lounge that we thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in and interacting with the staff. The rooms were clean, comfortable and modern. The building architecture was reminiscent of the olden times. A good balance of times and hospitality. Thank you for the memorable stay!

We had a glorious 5-night stay at The Edison George Town! It is a lovely hotel in a beautifully restored colonial mansion, just around the corner from all the action of Chulia Street. ||Our King room was clean and spacious (although a little more storage space would not go astray). There is a stylish communal area where we enjoyed fresh and delicious breakfast, snacks at any time, and free wine and cheese in the evening. The shady and secluded pool was a delight - an oasis of cool after exploring George Town and Penang. ||The Edison team were fantastic (professional, engaging, knowledgeable) and we had many a great conversation with them. There is no restaurant on site, but in my opinion that is no problem as there are so many food options close at hand. Even before our arrival, Albert sent me a long list of 'where to eat' recommendations!

The Edison is a beautiful, historic hotel full of old-world charm. The building itself is impressive, though it's showing its age a little and could use some maintenance and a bit of love in places to truly shine. However, any minor shortcomings are completely overshadowed by the excellent staff. They are exceptionally well-trained, genuinely warm, and always eager to help. They provided fantastic recommendations for local eateries and hidden spots in Georgetown that we would have otherwise missed, which greatly enhanced our trip. Overall, a very pleasant stay thanks to the superb service. If you appreciate character over pristine modernity, this is a wonderful choice.

We had a fantastic 5 nights stay at the Edison Georgetown, Penang. Beautiful Heritage Hotel, large clean bedroom and good amenities including the pool and breakfasting/lounge area, in a quiet area of the town. Albert and his team made the stay extra special all being very attentive to our needs, including helping us getting to grips with the 'Grab' App for booking taxis. Albert provided very helpful recommendations for where to eat and places of interest to visit. Overall this was a very enjoyable stay.

We had a wonderful time staying at The Edison!!! The room was clean, the location was perfect for walking to restaurants and sightseeing, the staff and service was exceptional and the manager Albert was so informative and lovely to talk to. He gave us awesome food recommendations and they did not disappoint! We were also lucky enough to stay here during the Georgetown Festival! They have a 24 lounge which had snacks and beverages, and they also served a simple but tasty breakfast (we had eggs and sourdough toast). The rooms had air conditioning, so for Canadians like us, this was much appreciated and we took a dip in the pool during the hottest parts of the day. At night you can walk across the street for vendor food and live entertainment. Hands down will be back. Thanks again for the amazing stay!!!

Yelp
Beyond pleased with the overall experience at the Edison boutique hotel in Georgetown on Penang Island in Malaysia. Big shout out to Albert Tan for the very warm welcome email providing an abundance of recommendations and relevant details on the best dining options around based on various preferences all clearly documented for my convenience upon arrival. These little gestures are really appreciated especially after a full day of travel. When my Uber pulled up to the hotel, Albert immediately greeted me and offered to assist me with my heavy belongings. Right after the check in process, the staff gave me a brief tour of the hotel even educating me on the history of this Peranakan mansion that's been renovated over the years with the core historical components kept in tact. Lounge access and complimentary breakfast are included in my stay with complimentary snacks and beverages throughout the day. The hotel room was extremely spacious, clean and comfortable considering the age of the building. It is situated a bit in the quieter part of town, but it is still within walking distance to many attractions. Catching a GrabCar is also convenient and affordable even if it is only a 5-min ride away.
