The Editory Artist Hotel, Porto, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Creativity is at the heart of The Editory Artist Hotel. Having functioned as an art college for decades, remnants of the building's heritage are everywhere. Old report cards are pinned up on walls, and paintings and sculptures by former students are exhibited in every room – look closely and you might even spot the grade each student was awarded for their masterpiece. Today, education takes on a new form: the hotel is fully run and managed by protégé students from the local tourism school, so all staff are young, eager, and out to impress.Upon our arrival, we were greeted by friendly faces and treated to a very welcome glass of port wine with some local sweet treats. Everything inside felt gloriously retro, with plump settees and antique writing desks in the 17 bedrooms, bold colours and patterned prints in the dining room, and artworks everywhere. The restaurant serves ‘surprise’ five- or seven-course tasting menus that change daily, and we were truly bowled over by the standard – little wonder the hotel is gaining quite the culinary reputation across the city. Step outside onto the quiet street and you'll find a bustling shopping area five minutes' walk away, plus the city's main sights beyond. Secluded, stylish and wonderfully unique: just what we love. Highs The innovative tasting menu is delicious and very reasonably pricedThe hotel provides you with a smartphone upon check-in which is preloaded with maps, walking tours and recommendations Rooms are large for a city hotel, especially the Library Suite which has a separate dining/seating areaYou get a glass of port wine and traditional cake on arrival - a nice touchSet in a quieter area of Porto so you can’t hear any street noise from the rooms Lows The majority of staff are students so naturally the service may not always be 100%, although we found staff to be charming and very well trainedThey cater for events in the main bar area, so it's sometimes closed to guestsThe hotel is located away from the central tourist areas, but sights are within easy walking distanceA limited breakfast during weekends (buffet only)" - Sophie Potter

We were welcomed with a glass of port and a traditional pastry. The staff throughout the stay were friendly and helpful. |The hotel was nicely decorated and the room was wonderful and spacious and very comfortable.||Breakfasts are a buffet style but you could also ask for omelettes to be made at your request. Food was good. ||We hadn’t realised that the restaurant also did meals in the evening other than the fine dining choices offered in the Artist part of the hotel. ||Although a way out of the centre, we did manage to walk into Porto within about 15-30 minutes.||Take good footwear that is comfortable as the hills are very steep

Had an excellent four night stay at the Editory Artist Baixa Porto Hotel. From the welcome as we checked in to the help with our bags as we checked out the reception staff couldn't have been more helpful. The rooms are cosy and modern and cleaned every day. The included breakfast with our rate was really good. Given it and its neighbouring hotel from the same group are small boutique ones the buffet was pretty varied with lovely pastries in particular. The location is excellent too, just a few minutes walk to Batalha Square.

We had a wonderful stay at the Editory Artist Baixa, a lovely hotel and huge room! beautifully decorated with art and mid-century furniture. Very clean. All the staff were lovely and very helpful. Delicious breakfasts (continental and cooked breakfasts) served in the pretty garden. A good base to explore Porto from, a short walk to sights, shops and restaurants. Public transport is a bit further but ubers are very cheap in Porto if feeling tired on the way back.|Would totally recommend.

The staff were super friendly and very warm. We got an upgrade to a big room and had a lovely welcome with a port and a pastry. Highly recommend. A bit of a haul from river but worth it to be in a quieter part of Porto at the end of the day. Lots of great restaurants nearby,

Very spacious and quiet room, very comfortable (very firm) bed, did not hear shower when the door was closed to the room. Incredibly friendly & helpful staff, superb dinner ( had the 7 tasting menu). The breakfast was delicious, lots of options. If I had to criticize anything it was having to share the breakfast facility with the sister hotel. It was too crowded and busy at times; not as quiet as breakfast in the main building.

Close to town yet very quiet and relaxing; great rooms - very spacious and comfortable beds. The breakfast was lovely, offered a large choice of options and even cooked eggs to order. The chefs choice tasting menu at the restaurant on the property was delicious and the staff were very helpful when we had questions or required help. We will definitely be back!

Very happy. The room was larger than most, plenty of space. Easy walking to restaurants and cafes and places of interest. I think maybe a little understaffed? We used the Editory Garden bar and restaurant and did struggle to find someone to talk orders and then to pay. We had one dinner at the Editory Garden (same kitchen as Artist hotel I think?). The fish was excellent. The tenderloin was really over cooked, and I had asked for medium rare. My advise is to stay here, have a drink here but don’t eat here

Fantastic ambiance, service from friendly staff and an excellent dining experience. A taste of port and a pastry nata when we checked in. Our chefs choice dinner at the property was our favourite of the three restaurants we tried in Porto. The property is located a quiet block or so from the busy part of the city. All of the scenic sites, including the river front were a 15 min walk away.
