My husband and I and another couple stayed at the Editory House Ribeira Porto Hotel from October 5-7, 2025. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to all the activity on the Duoro River and still only a short walk from other attractions like the Cathedral and the Livraria Lello. Our rooms were quite comfortable and well laid out. We had an issue with our air conditioning, mostly because our room was in the front and was exposed to the strong afternoon sun, but the staff was very attentive. I had worried that being on the busy street would be noisy but it wasn't bad at all. The staff proved to be most helpful after we checked out. I left my hand carried bag in the lobby--it contained my wallet and several other important items. I frantically called from the airport, and fortunately, the person at the front desk calmly confirmed that they had my bag and assured me that a local shipping company would handle the return. The hotel office copied me on all communication with the shipping company. Since my bag would have to be transported overseas to the US, I worried that it would take more than a week, but a day after I confirmed payment, the bag arrived at my home. This staff went above and beyond to serve us and this level of customer service will long be remembered and shared with everyone we know!

Fantastic hotel right in the heart of Porto! Very convenient! Lovely room, very comfortable and clean. Breakfast there was delicious and nicely done! If you have a hard time with street noise make sure you ask for a room not facing the street, if possible. Staff there were truly so helpful and nice. Would absolutely stay there again- wonderful experience!

A useful place to stay in Porto. Near to the river and the old town, with a taxi rank right outside ( to go quickly up the steep hills to visit places!). A friendly welcome from the very helpful staff with a clean, smaller room. We had a room on the inside with no view but quiet at night (rooms over the taxi rank can be noisy) .

We just finished a three-day stay at the Editory House in Porto, and I was thoroughly impressed. The location is excellent, with the riverfront just steps away. Every member of the staff we interacted with was friendly and helpful, and made us feel at home. The hotel itself is modern on the inside and very thoughtfully designed down to the smallest detail. It’s clear that a LOT of thought went into to the design and decor. Our room was on the small side, but was so carefully designed that everything just worked and it seemed bigger than it was. Our room faced an inner courtyard so that we had outside light but we were shielded from street noise. Some rooms do face the street, those may be noisier though I should add that the windows are solid and seal well. The only negative (and this feels like a nitpick) is that the refrigerator in our room was tucked into a cabinet with no ventilation, so it didn’t cool effectively. I propped open the cabinet door and the fridge worked much better that way.

Fantastic location really close to the riverside areas at the Douro bridge. Staff were superb, really helpful as I needed information on getting the train to Lisbon. Rooms overlooking the street do have traffic noise so best to ask for a room at the back. Will definitely stay here again. Room spotlessly clean and bed very comfortable.

Stayed here for a 3 day mini break. It's very well located in the old town. Our room was towards the back, which was perfect. I would think front facing rooms would be quite noisy.|The room was very clean, as was the shower (no mould at all). Bed was 2 singles pushed together which suited us. They were very comfortable.|Staff were very helpful and friendly |Breakfast is standard continental buffet but very good. Only complaint was the hot food (scrambled egg etc) was not replenished when empty. Often had to wait, but staff apologetic and even brought the food to us once cooked.|Not brilliant for my Coeliac wife, but she managed

I should have read more reviews prior to staying. It's a great location. Breakfast was good. Nice friendly staff. Bed fine but a little firm for us. Small room, but that's typical in Europe. However, the shower particularly, and in the bathroom smelled like sewer gas. I searched other reviews and found the same complaints. Probably due to it being a really old building and the drain piping not being done properly. Likely no water traps in drains which allows smells to enter into the shower area. I notified the staff. They told me it was resolved. It was not. Fortunately we were only there 2 nights and the room itself did not smell. Mostly just stepping into the shower with some bleed over into the bathroom itself. I told the staff upon checkout it still smelled and asked for a discount and was given the 'we'll check with the manager'. I wasn't in the mood for arguing on vacation and our stay was brief so not worth it. Location can't be beat but you may want to look elsewhere based on this and others similar comments.

The hotel is ideally placed to access the waterfront which fairly buzzes with tourist. Porto is hilly and walking up to the top can be a challenge if you have walking difficulties. We stayed for 4 nights and were greeted warmly late in the evening after a late flight. Normally guests are offered a port wine and pastry on arrival but it was too late for ours and when we did have it later, it was barely a mouthful and a taste of wine.|Our room 211 was a strange mixture of columns and doors, perfectly clean if a bit noisy. I am not sure if the others were like ours, but quirky might describe it. You could only plug in equipment under desk by laying flat and feeling your way in.|Switching on the lighting was interesting and there seemed be an over complex switch system. Possibly to discourage anyone over the age of 65 from using it…The shower was fine except that it had a life of its own and kept dropping out of the bracket and then spraying everywhere.|Breakfast was adequate in what seemed like the school assembly room and small plates were there, possibly to discourage gluttony but they were fine for us. The staff were all excellent and helpful. We would stay here again although a less quirky room would help.
