This is one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. The property is very well maintained. Rooms are exceptional. We stayed at Room 53 which has lovely views of the valley ans hills (doesnt face Kanchenjunga though!). The service was quite good too. I also loved their new year gala dinner and bonfire arrangement. Ending 2024 here was absolutely the right decision. Cant wait to go back again.

Firstly, when you arrive, you find that you’re absolutely in the middle of Darjeeling close to the mall Road literally three minutes walking from our property. There’s a beautiful view at least from my room. There was and also from the sit out area near the reception where you can enjoy the Valley side of the hills. Every dish so immaculately prepared and beautifully served by the waiters who know how to retain the old world charm at this property. We had a full board plan hence the breakfast lunch and dinner menus were carefully curated by the chefs and the front office managers of course we still had customized menu also which could be prepared at our request . We chose the highest category of the suite hence the service was even more extraordinary. A special thanks to Mr. Srikkanth at the front office who made sure that our needs are very well taken care of. We missed a bonfire requested before the night of our departure, and even at the parlor where there was a fire place however the tea coffee service at the Parlour and just to sit around there to play chess or to enjoy some newspaper was quite delightful. Ashok the waiter and all the other waiters at the dining area as stupendously trained and experienced to look after the guests so well like no other property in India . While it’s an extremely old heritage hotel, in fact, we’ve heard some stories of ghosts in the property of course never experienced any of that. I think it still retains a very modern approach of service blended with the old world charm. Certainly coming back for more such stays and hoping to see the same stuff back again. Spa was OK. The massage we took was decent however, I feel the communication and experience of the Spa staff was lesser than expected. All in all a great experience and it’s worth what they charge for. Most importantly, the way it’s maintained and it’s beauty coupled with a luxurious stay at the queen of hills was thoroughly an experience to remember thank you.

This is my 2nd time spending Christmas at Elgin with my family, and I can truly say that we are thoroughly enjoying our time! |From the ambience to the delicious food, it feels like home!! The staff never fail to have a smile on their face and their hospitality is commendable. The rooms are spacious and have the same vintage charm like the rest of the spaces in the property. Not to forget, the views from each room is breathtaking!!! |We are absolutely loving our stay and we can't wait to create more memories with Elgin!

The Elgin Hotel in Darjeeling is a heritage property offering old-world charm with modern comforts. Known for its colonial architecture, warm hospitality, and stunning mountain views, it provides a luxurious and cozy stay. The well-maintained rooms, excellent food, and serene ambiance make it a top choice for travelers.

The Elgin Darjeeling is undoubtedly a stunning property with lovely rooms and an atmosphere that transports you to a bygone era. The views are breathtaking, and the décor exudes charm and elegance, making it an ideal retreat in the hills. However, my experience with the check-in staff and those at the counters was extremely disappointing. Despite confirming our attic room booking, the staff managed to mix it up and gave it away to another family who had overstayed. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, they fed us a convoluted excuse about "confusion from their website." When we requested to speak with the manager, they blatantly ignored us, leaving us feeling dismissed and undervalued as guests. It’s a shame that such a beautiful property is let down by incompetent and rude staff. While the location and ambience are top-notch, the poor service has left a bitter taste, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend what could otherwise have been a wonderful stay.

It’s a mixed situation here. The place is definitely charming and historic. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food quality was good - better than expected and the breakfast was nice with an omelette station and fresh fruit. I’m not sure why others complained about the breakfast. Where things are lacking is cleanliness and maintenance. Carpets chairs and surfaces need a deep cleaning or replacement. If you look down at the stair runners when entering the dining room, you won’t even want to eat. For very little money those could be cleaned or replaced. The bar should be de-cluttered and cleaned. Rooms should be cleaned better - there is hair in the bathrooms and even the walls are dusty / grimy. Be prepared for a somewhat run down and unclean experience unless they do some kind of refresh.

This would have been a 4 star review had it not been for the fact that last night they decided to paint the room next to ours in the middle of the bloody night meaning we got no sleep. This is not acceptable. |It’s a heritage hotel and the rooms are very interesting and the service is impeccable. The food is good although I didn’t really need a 4 course meal. I did like the silver teapots for the tea, complete with tea cost! There are lots of interesting photos on the walls and the furniture is period. The heritage style extends to the beds, however, which had a hard and lumpy mattress.

Owned previously by the King of Cooch Behar, the Elgin took over this property and turned this into a heritage property, Nestled in the heart of the Queen of the Hills, it is a short walk from the renowned mall area. The property preserves the rooms in their Heritage style in the old wing and you also have the option of the new building. Their continental food is good. Breakfast could be better. The staff are courteous and very helpful.
