We spent the week at the Eltermere old Barn, which is attached to the hotel. We loved the bar area and sitting out in the garden looking down to Elterwater. A lovely tranquil spot and dog friendly too. Just beware of the Peacocks they sent our dog into a frenzy. On the last night we went to the restaurant which is very elegant, classic yet informal. A good choice from the menu was fish and chips as well as the fantastic triple fried chips, best I've ever had. Five of us had a fantastic meal and a couple of drinks for just over £110, which is pretty good value too. Highly recommended.

Four of us went for dinner and we all had 3 courses. The food was delicious. We had roast lamb and beef for dinner. Huge plateful of delicious traditional roast. We loved the desserts too - great sticky toffee pudding. This hotel is very warm and friendly. The staff are wonderful. It is in an amazing location.

We enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast, perfectly cooked beef and vegetables followed by puddings. So much better than other local eateries. My daughter, who is allergic to dairy, was delighted to find a proper dairy free pudding on the menu! Not something that happens often. We will be back on our next trip to the Lakes

I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed it. The room was just right, the grounds are lovely, it’s peaceful although there are some exotic peacocks wandering around. The breakfast was really good. I had smoked salmon and scrambled egg all morning and an eggs Benedict on the other Service was good too. Can’t think of any downside to this place. It’s convenient for lots of places to visit in the lakes my room was called hen crag.

Having had the most wonderful Sunday roast dinners two weeks earlier we couldn’t wait for a return visit. However, we were disappointed on the second visit regarding the service level. First time we had a jug of tap water on the table, this time we were offered still or sparkling for which we were charged £4.75 for a bottle of still. The first visit we had plenty of gravy, this time we had a small amount in the Yorkshire pudding which clearly wasn’t enough for the meat and large amount of greens. We asked for more and were given a small jug which we were charged a surprising £2.50 for! We queried this and was told it was on the menu but my husband pointed out that had we had enough in the first place we wouldn’t have needed more, gravy is literally pennies to make. I make these comments out of principle and not for any financial reason. Being local we thought we had found a place to visit regularly and had recommended it to our friends but now we will think twice.

Excellent location. Great breakfast selection and menu. Evening food was ok, could have been better. Rooms facilities were excellent and clean. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and comfortable stay in the Lake District.

We visited spur of the moment and were fortunate to be able to get a table for two. We opted for their roast dinner (one beef, one lamb), both were delicious, generous portions with all the trimmings. The Sticky Toffee Pudding, and the Romanian Pinot Noir were also tasty. Friendly service, Comfortable surroundings. Will visit again.

Called here for a cup of tea and cake with my wife. Charlie who only started working here a couple of weeks ago served me and was smiley, chatty and professional. The tea and carrot cake were great, and the service exceptional.Well done Charlie.

Yelp
We visited this lovely English pub for lunch. The views around the property are magical, the drive from Ambleside was lovely. A large wood fire was burning when we arrived. The lunch menu was very good, with usual and unusual dishes on offer, all nicely cooked and presented. Local beers are on tap, as well as a solid little wine list to choose from. This is a family-run operation, where you are made to feel at home, service is professional enough and friendly. Nice place to relax, unwind.
