The Embankment

We are absolutely thrilled with our choice of venue for our reception and overnight stay! From start to finish, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The reception was beautifully organized, and the setting was perfect—elegant, intimate, and exactly what we had envisioned. The staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly, and their attention to detail was impeccable. They were friendly, professional, and truly made us feel special throughout the entire event. Staying overnight in the room overlooking the river was the cherry on top. The view was breathtaking, and the roll-top bath added a touch of luxury that made our stay even more memorable. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and spotlessly clean. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. This venue exceeded all our expectations, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect blend of stunning surroundings, outstanding service, and unforgettable moments. Thank you to the entire team for making our day so magical! Highly recommended!

We paid extra for a river view, I chose the room as on the site it looked very nice. It was freezing. Two windows didn’t close as broken handles. Heavy curtains cover the small radiator under the window so no heat . We stayed 5 nights and were eventually given a free standing heater for the last couple of nights so it was a bit warmer. No heaters available until then as being used in other rooms.|The room had hanging cobwebs and dust on plants. The toilet was dirty around the fixings. I got bitten by something? We had to get our cases up two flight of stairs. Not easy at 79. No safe which was inconvenient as we had to carry our valuables with us. No fridge. These things we have come to expect. Not listed but perhaps a rethink needed. |The food was very good as was the staff.|The bar had a lovely coal fire but the dining area cold as no radiators on. |Unfortunately I wouldn’t stay again

Came here for drinks and some snacks. The restaurant is well decorated and staff were warm and welcoming. Drinks selection on offer is good and the service was good too. Unfortunately as some other reviews also suggest, the food is overpriced/ small portions.

Lovely place. I took my son there for his birthday. The service was fantastic, the food was lovely. Portions a bit on the large side. Everything about the place was great. My son got a free drink from the host, which was a very lovely gesture . Thanks for a fantastic service. We had a great time.

We’ve been regulars here for food for years, in the last 6 months it’s gone down hill drastically. Our last two meals we have had here we have complained about and sent back, due to a number of reasons, poor quality, being cold, inadequate portions. We stopped going for a while because of this and then decided to give it another try today. Sad to say it was more than disappointing, the steak tasted off. The prawns with our starters had no flavour whatsoever and came out cold. My daughter had a morsel portion of desert, my custard was so cold I sent it back, only for the staff to give me a lukewarm alternative. My partners beef roast looked like a child’s portion, the potatoes were rock hard and had been cooked in old oil and the staff were inattentive. It’s a beautiful location - and lovely interiors, if you're going for drinks it’s perfect but as far as the food is concerned I would strongly recommend avoiding unless you want to be disappointed or you are happy to eat less than mediocre food. We won’t be going back again after today. Such a shame! Reluctant to leave a poor review however we have complained about it directly the two times previously and unfortunately the feedback hasn’t been taken on board and that was reflected in the food and service today!

I celebrated my recent birthday with 14 friends for a Saturday lunch. Despite a busy resterant and a wedding in the room next door we had use of a quieter back room and one member of staff dedicated to our group. It was excellent, food lovely and service great. I would do this again!

Just had a very nice breakfast at The Embarkment. Four of us ate with 3 different choices and all well cooked. Particularly impressed with the Australian waitress who was friendly informative ad efficient.

We had a baby shower at The Embankment and it was great. The staff were excellent, especially Katie. Very accommodating and hospitable all round. Thanks team!

Always great service and food, the best pub in Bedford, the only place we always go to! We stayed in the rooms one night as well, all good, highly recommended!

Cocktails = delicious! Food = scrummy! Waitstaff = lovely, and ambiance laidback and friendly. Why the low star rating? The indoor tables. They. Are. Sticky. And. Nasty. All of them and it's truly a sensory nightmare. I'll stick to the outdoor tables where there are heaters and blankets. Bit those tables? It's the grandest of nopes for me. Never again.

Delicious cake, terrible service. Dirty dishes. Can't have proper tea with dirty dishes. Has to try three times with the teaspoon.

Pub-Chic! Uber trendy pub restaurant on the Embankment of Bedford (obvious name) with updated styling with a big selection of food and booze. Definitely get the Sticky-Toffee Pudding when available.

I have visited this establishment multiple times throughout my travels to the UK. The exterior and interior are all typically English, in the best possible ways. The waitresses I've encountered are always friendly and you can definitely tell they earn their pay. However, in my last visit, there was a hair in my meal. The waitress was very helpful and offered to get a manager to resolve the issue. I was provided with a replacement food item, however, I overheard the manager berate the waitress for calling him over. It's a shame that such an outwardly fine establishment would be so hostile towards its workforce for simply trying to provide the best level of customer service. I'm giving The Embankment two-stars due to the clearly toxic work environment towards its employees.

This place has had a great impact on my opinion of Bedford - in a positive way! The Embankment is a very cosy place located just across the road from a park on the banks of the River Ouse. The area was beautifully lid and appeared magical on a snowy January afternoon. On this occasion I came for drinks only, but will make sure to come again and sample some of their food as well. Who knows, I may even be tempted to stay the night in their B&B even though it appears a bit dear at prices starting at £85 for a double room. It is Bedford, after all...

After a disappointing dining experience in our hotel we decided to try the Embankment for Sunday breakfast. The pet friendly hotel / pub is absolutely Delightful. I am wishing we had stayed here last night. Anyway I was absolutely delighted with the breakfast although they were a bit light on Vegitarian options. I choose the full English which I have to say was the best I have had in my life. The pork sausages were to die for soooo meaty and tasty. My meal consisted of 2 rashers , 2 large sausages, beans , black pudding, tomato, mushroom and toast. A feast for £9. Defiantly recommend.

Used to go to the restaurant years ago regularly for the beaufiful setting, the traditional English decor, the proffesional sevice and high qulality food.Went there last month and was very dissapionted. The small food portions were not very nice,the staff did'nt seem to be intersted and the blaring music was too loud.

Lovely location with a cosy atmosphere. Good food and cheerful service but a little on the pricey side for what is actually a pub judging from the rather boisterous rowdy crowd on the patio. Will visit again for sure!

Look at the special evening events. Amazing location, great Beer. Food excellent but sometimes portions rather small. Staff friendly. Sunday roast great. Better since been refurbished.

As a coeliac it is often difficult to find a restaurant where you can enjoy afternoon tea or which provides a choice of gluten free meals. Andrew and team take great care in providing the best for its customers. If you ring in advance they will make every effort to supply GF products. I must say it is a lovely place to visit, private dining area a bonus for private parties and exceptional views to the river. wonderful service, a wide range of wines and beers, love the Pimms! Chef makes a Creme Brulee to die for, the best steak I have ever eaten!! Slightly above average prices but well worth it.
