The 10 Most Haunted Hotels in America to Book This Halloween - AFAR

"Built in 1924 as a Medical Arts Building on the long barracks ground of the Alamo, this Gothic revival structure with cast-iron details, gargoyles, and a copper roof later became a hotel and retains many hospital-era stories. Guests report eerie occurrences concentrated in the basement (formerly the morgue and crematorium) and on the 7th and 14th floors—the latter once the surgical ward—such as elevators that stop at the basement unexpectedly, faint disinfectant smells, ghoulish shrieks, misplaced belongings, and unexplained phone calls; legends also include a ghostly jilted bride associated with the former psychiatric unit." - Bailey Berg

We checked in on Halloween night. Everything from the start with the Valet staff to the front desk was perfect. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. We stayed in room 707 and had the most beautiful view of the Alamo. The room was clean and comfortable. When it came time for checkout the staff went the extra mile to make sure even the end of our stay was amazing. They kindly held our bags and car until 3 o'clock allowing us to enjoy San Antonio a little longer. We will definitely come back.

DO NOT TRUST VALET Came to San Antonio with a group of buddies of mine using points. Upon arrival, there is hardly any good options to park your car aside from using valet. So we had to swallow the cost since the savings between using valet and parking outside is roughly 10 bucks. Once we gave the car to valet, check-in was simple and efficient. Veronica was very easygoing and effective with professional yet warming manners. Definitely felt welcome. Once we got our hotel keys, we went to the room and found that it was not entirely clean (half made beds, dirty socks on the floor, non-wiped sink). We requested a new room and Veronica at the front desk helped out immensely. The bathrooms are transparent. Be careful if you are with a group of friends and don't want to see cheeks or pythons. The bathroom doors were a farmhouse-style sliding two-door set that closed towards the middle. Unfortunately, the doors (when closed) still had a gap in the middle, allowing those in the room to see into the bathroom when someone is showering. I didn't see the anaconda at the San Antonio Zoo, but nearly did at the Emily Morgan Hotel. Now to the valet... the one time we used them at night, it took well over 35 min to get our car. During checkout, they were slammed with requests and had a significant delay, which was understandable. The real problem came when we saw a young couple visibly shaken after learning that their truck was stolen... from the valet parking lot. This understandably got all 10 people in the valet queue distraught including our group. Police got involved and confirmed that it was indeed stolen from the valet parking lot, keys included. Nevertheless, please reconsider selecting this hotel if you need peace of mind about your vehicle. If you do not, then the hotel truly is an attractive place to be in both the lobby and in the rooms. Its location makes very easy to walk around the downtown area if you dont have a car. They even give you cookies and water upon check in.

Me and my spouse won a free night stay for Halloween and we also brought our 4yo son. it was an amazing experience that my family appreciated so much. The staff made it extra special by decorating the room with Halloween themed items, candy baskets, and drinks. They also gave us free drinks at the bar and free breakfast. Jhonny gave us an amazing ghost tour of the hotel and we understood the building so much better. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We will definitely come back! Thank you so much for making our Halloween night so special

We had such a wonderful experience celebrating our daughter’s birthday here! The staff went above and beyond to make everything feel special. Rudy was so accommodating right from the start and even changed our floor to make sure it was perfect for us. And Johnny gave us an incredible ghost tour — fun, spooky, and full of history. Thank you all for making this a birthday we’ll never forget! 👻🎂💛 We would definitely do this again!

Stayed for two nights at this hotel as part of a tour. The first room I had was on the top (14th) floor- apparently one of the ‘haunted’ floors. The smoke alarm was beeping as I entered the room but as I was going straight out , told reception staff and didn’t give it another thought, especially as the beeping had stopped when I returned later. |I was awoken in the middle of the night by noise that sounded as if it was above me, but I eventually remembered in my sleep haze that I was on the top floor. Bit spooky but ok , I eventually went back to sleep. Nothing else unusual happened until the next morning when a plug came out of the socket I was using to charge something. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this of course to do with electricity surges. ||On returning to my room late on the second evening the smoke alarm was beeping again. This time I changed rooms to 12th floor- also apparently haunted, but had a restful and uneventful nights sleep. ||The staff st this hotel are very friendly , polite and helpful. The concierge especially so. He helped a party of us buy tickets and arrange transport to a Rodeo about 40 mins away. Reception staff were also very helpful and offered help when I needed to change my room. |Great views over the Alamo from one side of the hotel. |A good hotel which I’m happy to recommend even if there were one or two spooky things - adds to memories.

I had a fantastic stay at the Emily Morgan Hotel during a recent concert trip. The front office staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about local bars and activities. Our room was spotless, and the bed was super comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and included carne guisada with flour tortillas, which was a first for me at a hotel. The only minor downside was the $45 valet parking fee, but it was well worth it thanks to the friendly valet staff. Overall, a wonderful experience and highly recommended!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can’t say enough great things about my stay at the Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio! From the moment I walked through the doors, I felt welcomed and taken care of. The hotel itself is gorgeous—historic charm with all the modern touches that make a stay comfortable. Perfect location too, just steps away from the Alamo and the River Walk. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was Rudy at the front desk. He went above and beyond to make sure every detail of my stay was smooth and enjoyable. Rudy is the kind of person who instantly makes you feel like more than just a guest—he’s warm, professional, and genuinely cares about your experience. Whether it was answering questions, helping with recommendations, or just greeting me with a smile every time I walked through the lobby, Rudy made the stay 10x better. Hotels can be beautiful, but it’s the people who make the difference, and Rudy is a shining example of hospitality at its finest. If you’re staying at the Emily Morgan, make sure you say hi to Rudy—he’s the absolute best! I’ll definitely be back.

Weekend getaway with hubby was a blast. We decided on the Emily Morgan because we love historic hotels. The gothic feel from the outside leads to updated and modern perks inside. We attended the dinner detective show at the hotel and had a blast. We visited the Alamo, Riverwalk and enjoyed our view of downtown San Antonio. Shout out to Johnny and Phillip for being such great hosts and ensuring we had a good time. We will definitely be back when traveling to San Antonio again.

Yelp
This review is July 4, 2025 and is immediate while we are still in the room. We have two more nights here. We get back from our Sip n Cruise tour on the riverwalk and everyone is in front of the Alamo waiting for the fireworks. We came on up to our room 708 to watch from our window. My wife jumps in the shower real quick. The fire alarm goes off. We walk 7 floors down to the first floor. False alarm. We make it back up to the room. I take a bath. I did not shave. After drying off I grab a fresh pair of underwear and sit on the end of the bed. I put them on. I go back to the bathroom and hang my towel up and turn the lights out. When I walk back into the room there were three very fresh and wet blood stains on the end of the bed. We could not find where the blood came from. I leaned across the bed with my belly touching the bed. When I stood back up there was slight blood where my front waist would have touched. The left inside and front of my underwear was covered in blood. I and my wife inspected my body and especially my mid section and absolutely no cuts. No scratches. Not bleeding from any orifice. This was our second room. We were already moved from the 2nd floor to this floor because we were not given what was requested but management was gracious enough to switch us. The first room was literally atrocious but this room visually and for comfort is very nice. But I have no explanation for the blood!!!!! Management did send us a nice bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries.

Yelp
I stayed with a friend for two nights, and we had a really unpleasant time overall. The hotel was not what it was billed as, certainly not the standards of a 4 or 5 star hotel. The rooms themselves felt more like 2 stars, as the furniture was all pretty old, the bedsprings made a lot of noise when you moved, and the whole place was dingy and needed a freshening up. There were peeling decals, chipped paint, strange stains, and generally felt like something from the 1980s. What really made our experience bad was that the climate control could not be controlled. We had the same problem in two different rooms on two different floors, so it seems like a building issue. In both rooms, we could not adjust the temperature, and the vents just blew hot air. It got so hot in the rooms that we were both sweating and unable to sleep. It was below freezing outside, but we couldn't open the windows or do anything to cool it off. The thermostat was turned all the way to 64, but it was easily over 80 degrees. After getting almost no sleep the first night, I begged to be let out of the second night's reservation, but the hotel refused. They offered only a $50 credit and new room, which was only less run down than the first and still had the terrible heating issue. (And they never actually applied the $50.) When we reported that we still were unable to sleep the second night, all we were offered were free breakfast tickets, which we didn't want or need. (We had dinner the first night at the hotel restaurant, and the service that I would not return there anyway.) I regret deeply not just eating the price of the second night and going somewhere else. I felt like the hotel did not care about my discomfort at all. And yes, it does seem to be haunted. We saw and heard plenty of weird stuff, but I could have overlooked that if I wasn't having near heatstroke in the rooms.

Yelp
Unfortunately stayed here on a special night in a second floor suite and was disappointed. The front desk service was nice enough, but none of the outlets in our room charged our phones. (We brought an external charger thankfully). We woke up and it was 60 degrees in the room but it couldn't be changed! Our suite might've had a library but it didn't even have a microwave, and what we paid for it like as a large room at least have a microwave! TV remote only worked 50% of the time. It was just okay until I looked closely around the tub and some of the paneling on the walls. I love that it's a remodel of a super neat historic building but it needs some TLC and I'll probably stay elsewhere next time sadly. But a beautiful lobby area!

Yelp
I wouldn't stay here again. It's not appealing and the staff are not friendly except ONE out of 8-9 different valet guys. No one is welcoming or greets you. Not even management. They are all too busy in their phones or talking amongst eachother about their personal lives. This was my husbands go to hotel when traveling here for business, but when I'm traveling with him, we will definitely not be staying here. I worked for the hotel industry and expect better!

Yelp
I did not stay at this hotel, I just walked around the entrance and sat at the bar for a drink. This hotel is very well maintained and classy. The bartender was attentive & my Paloma was great. My friend enjoyed the old fashioned.

Yelp
Where to begin? My first experience with this hotel was when I called ahead to inquire about their parking situation. As soon as the front desk picked up, I was promptly put on hold. After about 20 minutes, I decided to hang up. When I arrived at the hotel, I noticed that the person at the front desk wasn't even busy. The hotel workers who stand outside also, did not even bother opening the door for me when I walked past them. By the way, parking isn't included in the room rate, and you have to use the public parking lot. That adds an additional $38 every 12 hours. I arrived quite late and was hungry. Fortunately, their bar served food until 11 pm. It took about 30 minutes before I was acknowledged and asked what I wanted. I ordered a sandwich to go and asked how long it would take. The lady at the bar assured me it would be ready in about 20 minutes. So, I ordered a drink as well. An hour later, I finally received my food. Luckily, the chicken BLT was still warm, but the fries were cold. Now, the hotel may look nice on the outside and in the lobby, but the rooms are very small. I got a king bed, so I can only imagine how much smaller their queen or single beds are. They also don't have a fridge or microwave in their rooms. Instead, they provide an iron, a small desk, and a lounge chair. The lighting could be better, as it's not well-lit when it's dark. To add to my surprise, I found a grasshopper just casually chillin' in my room! On the first night, the elevators were working fine, but they were slow. The next day, one elevator was out of service, and only one other one seemed to be working. However, it took the elevator cab 20 minutes to reach my floor. You can take the stairs, but they're exterior, and in the heat, that's not a pleasant experience. Overall, I give this hotel a one-star rating. The only positive thing I can say is that the Moscow mule I ordered at the bar on the first night was decent. However, I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. For a Hilton, it's not worth the money. It's subpar at best, and there are many more positive aspects of other hotels. I'm glad I had an event rate during my stay, as it saved me money.

Yelp
The Emily Morgan Hotel, formerly known as the Medical Arts Building, is a 13-story Neo-Gothic hotel near the Alamo and part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District in San Antonio, Texas. Built in 1924 and standing 205 feet tall, it was the tallest building in San Antonio until the Milam Building surpassed it in 1928. It is known for being one of the most haunted locations in San Antonio.
google avatar

Yelp
Still love this hotel but staff needs training in welcoming guests. Especially valet. Got back to the hotel after visiting the botanical garden and there were 2 other guests standing in front of the building waiting for the valet. We all figured he was fetching a car. One gentleman had been waiting 15 plus minutes. I finally went inside to the front desk to inquire and there was the valet playing on his phone. I asked if he had help and he laughed. Finally I informed him he had 3 guests waiting for him outside. And he took his sweet time responding. Maybe he had a bad day, but if so you are in the wrong industry.

Yelp
My first stay here was in June 2000. I remember the room being kind of on the small side. Makes sense - since the building itself is so old. Never occurred to me that this place would be haunted - despite being built on this battleground of Texas history. I rolled up after midnight after watching M.I. II and my bf was taking too long in the bathroom, iykyk, so i figured ill go downstairs to the lobby. every downtown hotel has a bathroom in the lobby right? I went downstairs, nothing. I asked the front desk and he directed me to the basement. Sure, no problem. I took the elevator to the basement where the banquet rooms were and old pictures of the building, too cool right? lol. I went to the ladies room and as i was about to exit my stall, I heard someone peeing in stall next to mine, i heard tissue paper unrolling from the metal roller. I passed the stall only to realize I was the only person in this public bathroom. The heck?? I washed my hands and left, but it still hadn't hit me how haunted this place was. I read the caption on one of the photos i passed when i walked in and felt very uncomfortable... like i was being watched. I went to the elevator and then the door wouldnt close? I was like well... do i take the stairs? do i risk getting locked in a stairwell or stuck in an elevator? (finally it closed after about 5 minutes - an eternity in fear time - and then went to a floor i didn't select, before finally taking me bk to my floor. Goodness, the next time i stayed here was July. My kids were 1 and almost 3 at the time. We needed a fridge for breastmilk and luckily the priceline express deal gave us this accommodation. As soon as we walked in the phone rang with nobody on the line. great. I blessed the room with holy water and reminded the ghosts they were not welcomed here in my room or near my kids. there are plenty of other floors - go haunt and hang there. my daughter turned 3 and she cried for 2 hours in my lap. We never could figure out why - nothing happened so we worried it was paranormal again but we just prayed about it and over her. The room itself had a separate mini living room - it was a corner room and the mini fridge. it was nice we could see our car from the window. the bathroom definitely needed to be updated but it got the job done. Would I stay here again? no. not with my kids. Its definitely more of a couples spot. great restaurant/bar in the lobby. a must try while visiting.

Yelp
I had a good stay here while in town for a conference. The room was a good size and had a beautiful view of the Alamo out the wall of windows. Room could use a little refresh- some discoloration on parts of the wall and ceiling. The TV seemed very far from the bed which wasn't ideal. Otherwise the room was pretty good for an older hotel. The hotel is convenient to the river walk and many shops and restaurants but a little further to the convention center. Service was so-so. Some staff were awesome and went above and beyond while a few were less friendly/helpful. A staff member at the restaurant tracked down a food request I had which made my morning! The desk clerk who checked me out was friendly and helpful. The valet were all excellent!

Yelp
I wish I could say I recommend this hotel but I don't. Check in was easy, per usual. We got upgraded to the higher floors and the view was nice. However, the room smelt like an old library.. we didn't need much from the staff during our stay so I can't say whether they were good or not. But the room we got had bed bugs.. I tried to call the front desk and speak with a manager and they told me he wasn't in yet. I told them what was going on and I wasn't looking for a refund nor a free stay. I just wanted the room to be put out of service so they could have it deep cleaned and resolve the issue. I never got a call back from the manager.. I called again a few days later & I still couldn't get a hold of the manager so I asked for an email. They gave me the GMs email in which I wrote him an email. I never got a reply.. very unprofessional and not clean. Wouldn't recommend this place.

Yelp
I will NEVER stay at an Airbnb or another hotel anytime I go to San Antonio!!! Airbnb will charge u a cleaning fee but expect u to clean the heck out of the location it's confusing. This was theee best experience I've had a hotel. The staff was amazinggggg JOHNNY & RUDY really made my family's stay epic! But allll the staff was so nice and had that southern charm. They were very accommodating and clean. We are so happy. Thank you staff.

Yelp
The hotel is neat, and it was fun to stay at such a cool haunted, historic place, but it just doesn't live up to the hype or the price. The location could not be better, so that's a positive. However, this hotel is really dirty. I know some of that comes with the territory of it being old, but most of the dirty feel came from things like a thick layer of dust on the thermostat, brown splashes of something on the bathroom door, stains all over the bathroom ceiling, hard water stains or soap scum on the bathroom faucet, and the carpet that just felt very unclean. The bed was super hard and uncomfortable. 2 of our outlets by the bed did not work, so my husband and I had to share a charger on the 1 outlet that did work. Our air conditioner did not work and we almost sweat to death the first night. We asked to move rooms and they just sent up some workers to fix the AC. The air did start to blow cooler after they left, but they left a huge mess in the bathroom. There was black stuff all over the toilet, floor, bath tub, and sink. We also didn't have any hand soap in our room. We had to request service to clean our room after the workers left because it was so dirty. I wish Hilton was held to the cleanliness standard that it was before Covid. Before 2020, we never had an issue, and now post Covid, we have been disappointed with the cleanliness and service at every Hilton property we've been too. It truly is just not the same, and that's so disappointing.

Yelp
Unfortunately I can't recommend this place. If you want to see a place with some history for sure stop in for a visit. Or to be spooked by some ghosts... If you're looking for a nice place then this is not the right place to stay. The rooms need some serious updating. There are only 2 plugs in the entire room. The hot water was not working most of the time. As a Hiton honors guest they did not provide even the simple water that standard. We also did not get the room we requested. The staff was not helpful and did not help with much of anything. Maybe 2024 they will improve.

Yelp
Easy checkin. Seamless in fact. Love the valet as there was a huge event at the Alamo the weekend we were there. Oro was wonderful sitting at bar enjoying a nightcap. The room was perfect for us and the best part was watching Martina McBride perform for the 1774 Alamo Event

Yelp
Historic hotel with a Paranormal twist We did not stay in this historic hotel but I was intrigued in its rich history. I read articles about it and found them to be fascinating especially its past when it was once the city's first Medical Arts Building and was used as a medical facility (downstairs level were the offices and the top floors was the hospital). We were curious... We visited the hotel while we were in San Antonio. It was said that the 7th, 9th, 12th, and 14th were the most haunted floors. It remains to be seen and I'm not a believer of the paranormal but we had a chance to speak to an employee in the basement. She shared some eerie experiences including once when she was cleaning on one of the floors and was about to go inside the elevator, as she started to push her cart inside she was taken aback to see a a lady in black and gray towards the back of the elevator. She apologized to the figure and said she didn't see her. Then the apparition disappeared. She had more stories to tell... we were all ears. We did go up to the 9th floor. It had undeniably the smell of a hospital, you know, as you walk in one right away you notice a different smell profile. It had a strong odor. Oh, also there is no true "fourteenth floor." The 14th floor is actually the 13th floor. The Emily Morgan was inducted into the Historic Hotels of American Organization in 2015 but earlier, in 1977, it was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Alamo Plaza Historic District and won other awards, as well as being featured in plenty of magazines. Very distinguished building indeed. The hospital... err, hotel is in a great location in downtown San Antonio. Pretty much walking distance to the RiverWalk and just around the corner to The Alamo. Would love to revisit SA for a third time and stay here at the Emily Morgan. The lobby is beautiful. Review #2829

Yelp
If I could give this hotel zero stars, I absolutely would, but one star will have to do. We coordinated a wedding block at this hotel nearly a year before our wedding date and wound up securing over 80 guest rooms for this hotel. About six months before the wedding date, we coordinated with their Senior Sales Manager the fact that we would be transporting 100+ guests back to the hotel after the wedding for an after party at the hotel's bar, Oro. All was confirmed and we were so excited to keep our celebration going with so many loved ones who had traveled from out of state (or out of the country) for our nuptials. She explained that the hotel bar would be open until 1 AM for our group, which was perfect for us! We spent the money on shuttles to transport guests back to the hotel that night. To our surprise, not one staff member knew of our party, and we were treated like the most incredible burden by the hotel's own bartenders, who explained to us that they were closed and would refuse to serve any of us (this was at about 11:39 PM). As you can imagine, this ruined everyone's evening and we couldn't believe the sheer ineptitude and lack of customer service training from staff at a so-called "luxury" hotel. Speaking of luxury, we were doubly surprised to be placed in a wedding night suite where there was a leak from the ceiling that staff thought appropriate to resolve by simply bringing in a bucket to place on the floor to capture the water. Eventually, we were moved, but it took speaking with three different staff members to make this happen. After the debacle (and us missing out on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of celebrating AND saying goodbye to all our loved ones), the hotel thought it appropriate to resolve the issues by (1) comping our room (which seemed like the most obvious and rudimentary remedy) and offering us a "Be My Guest" certificate, as though we'd ever willingly choose to stay at this awful hotel again. If this alone isn't convincing enough to get you to look elsewhere for accommodations, the guests we DID get to see the next day complained about heaters in the rooms not working, despite the fact that it was below 30 degrees out. Absolute joke of a "luxury" hotel, and there is ample reason why our wedding venue suggested we look to other options. I only wish we had listened!

Yelp
Very poor customer service in the restaurant. Went there for dinner upon arrival. Sat at a table for multiple minutes was not greeted while the survey was sitting at a table just chatting to a non-customer. Then I moved to the bar and the bartender could not be pulled away from flirting with a patron. Left and got dinner elsewhere. Went back in the morning and once again waitstaff was very disinterested. On top of all that, they had flies everywhere. Did not seem clean or sanitary.

Yelp
I love this hotel. Every time I'm in San Antonio I come here. The service in the restaurant is on point. The rooms are nice and cozy. I wish I could get some of the ghost experience when I stay but will keep trying every time I come back. Thank you team for the great experience I always have

Yelp
Stayed here as a local interested in its haunted history. The exterior of the hotel leads you to believe it will be equally historically breathtaking inside however the interior is very modern unfortunately. The elevators are old, you can tell from the banging and the eerie feeling but unlike the Menger, the interior does not represent its history. The rooms are also very small and in very bad shape. Disappointing for the price you pay to stay here and its "luxury" facade. There were water stains on the ceiling, a poor drywall job, the caulking in the bathroom around the tub looking janky. If i weren't interested in its haunted history I would have not spent the money to stay here. Hotel staff was good. You can park right behind the hotel at a "pay to park" for $38 which honestly isn't too far off from the valet overnight parking price for the hotel itself. Don't recommend for a getaway but do recommend if you're into spooky stuff.

Yelp
Perfect location to get to the Riverwalk and the Alamo. You're just a few feet from it all. Easy, friendly check in process (and that delicious warm cookie since it's a Doubletree Hilton property) was marred by getting up to my room and keys not working. I called from hall phone and they sent someone up to change batteries in door lock. It took a while and was a bit frustrating. Room was very comfortable, equipped with a frig which was nice and a sofa (king suite). Bathroom tub was a spa tub which I didn't use but it was clean and well appointed. Parking was kind of a pain, since I self-parked in the city lot next to the hotel. Their system required a lot of steps and I'm glad I didn't arrive at night and have to stand outside and enter my credit card on my phone in the dark (only way to pay), but that's because I didn't valet park with the hotel for $35 a night. The hotel restaurant served a decent breakfast buffet but the restaurant was really dark at 830 am. Ambiance is great for dinner, but I need some light at breakfast. Hotel staff, especially Phill, were very helpful and service oriented (evidence of good hiring and training). I enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

Yelp
Blood stained sheets that we did not discover until we were checking out. I typically check the sheets at the hotels at the beginning of our stay but I did not this time. This tells me they did not change the sheets from the last guest OR they put stained sheets on? Either doesn't make sense. We paid over $600 to stay here for two nights & that is without the $50 per day valet services. I wanted to like this place, is absolutely beautiful on the outside. Inside is extremely outdated, bar service was mediocre & pool was closed.

Yelp
Horrible service and totally rundown and shappy! No towels at the pool and requested twice. Breakfast was bleak. Asked for room to be cleaned and fresh towels. Never happened. Would never recommend this place.

Yelp
I was really disappointed in this hotel. I have been to double trees before and this was a big let down. The amount of money I paid for this was not even close to What it was. The bathroom was super small the Shower was like for a kid so small. The ceiling had cut out holes and was dirty the shower had some mold growing on it. The ac until every time it cut off made some loud noise. Definitely annoying when your sleeping or watching a movie. The plus in the lights by the bed didn't work so You had to plug in the iron and phone on the desk area. The only good things about this was the hotel was in a perfect place to the river walk and the Alamo. Oh and of course the cookies!

Yelp
I honestly think this is the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. Its very classic, vintage, yet with modern conveniences and a great albeit very pricey bar. If you are visiting San Antonio, the location cant be beat. The only knocks against it are the tub stoppers not fitting the drain and the $45 per night plus tax, plus tip valet parking.

Yelp
Beautiful, pet-friendly hotel located right next to the Alamo. We spent Thanksgiving night here with our dog. The room was very comfortable and had a great view of the Alamo. Staff were very nice and helpful. We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Palm but would definitely try the hotel's hosted dinner next year.

Yelp
I have no complaints. I was on the 10th floor in a corner room with a garden tub. The tub jets were apparently shut off so maint came up and turned them back on - no issue. It was a very nice bath and truth be told, that is why I booked this hotel. I did have the $15 thing for being a gold member so that was cool and I got the breakfast the second day I was there. So the restaurant (ORO) was dead but I did arrive at 7am when the hotel is already at low capacity to my understanding. It had the usual offerings and it was buffet style. It wasn't the tastiest I have ever had but it was $20 before the $15 credit so even without the credit, it is at least a reasonable price. The Westin Peachtree is $40. just saying. There are two elevators that have a neat touch to them, a texas like touch. Ice on every other floor and really nothing else to say. I did have a direct view of the Alamo in 1003 which was quite nice. The Valet I think was like $45 a day so not cheap but there isn't all that nice of parking nearby. But plenty of shops and crap to do. You are walking distance to Riverwalk. All in all, I recommend! I also did not know it was haunted. That detail was never made known to me until a few seconds ago.

Yelp
Amazing architecture the staff is so attentive and welcoming. The hotel is beautiful and the history adds to the experience. Location to downtown venues and activities can not be matched. This is the only place we stay. Please don't believe those who say the hotel is "old" it has been updated very well. A hidden gem. Say hello to Victoria at the bar! She is absolutely amazing...

Yelp
The Emily Morgan hotel was a great experience on our first visit to San Antonio. The hotel has an old world charm and ambiance yet the rooms are modern and very nice. If you're visiting the Alamo and Riverwalk you are right on top of both. The neighborhood is very safe and fun to walk around. The staff was exceptional, we had 2 small problems with electrical outlets and immediately the staff was up to fix them . Food in the restaurant was delicious and well prepared.

Yelp
We love staying in historic hotels when we can, and the Emily Morgan, the gorgeous 1920s Neo-Gothic former Medical Arts Building, is right up tower with our favorites. Located steps from the Alamo and the Riverwalk, the Emily Morgan was a lovely and gracious place to spend a few days in San Antonio over spring break. We were upgraded to an Alamo view, which was a pleasant surprise since those were booked when we made our reservation. We appreciated this small act of hospitality, which we found out about at the front desk. And the Doubletree's famous cookies, of course, are as delicious as ever. Historic hotel rooms are smaller than modern hotel rooms, but they make up for that in charm and guest experience. Our room, while compact, was very well designed to maximize efficiency and comfort. We had plenty of room for our family of 4 to hang out, with a comfy chair and ottoman to rest weary feet, and a nice-sized fridge for a few cold beers. The large desk was a blessing and the ingenious opaque door to the bathroom/shower area saved a lot of space. We elected to use the valet parking, which was efficient, professional, and polite. It's just $10 more than self-parking, and we found the convenience of not having to park ourselves well worth the extra cost. The lobby is spacious with comfortable chairs and small tables for conversations or people-watching: and this close to the Alamo there are a LOT of people to watch!! We had a lovely conversation with a member of the hotel staff in the lobby while waiting for the valet to bring our car. I shared some tourism and transportation history of the hotel with him that he was not aware of - and he shared some that I was not aware of! Turns out he was the GM of the hotel! We returned to a box of cookies and a lovely box of cookies that Kole had delivered to us. What a kind gesture. 5 charming, convenient, gracious, and overall excellent hospitality stars

Yelp
The only reason I'm not giving this a 1 star is because the room and the hotel are beautiful and a great location. That being said, be prepared to get Nickle and dimed on everything starting with the parking. Another review on here had the same to say so I won't get into it much other than paying $30 for 12 hour parking each vehicle. The attitude of the registration desk was horrible also. It is a service industry after all. If you don't like providing service then you shouldn't be employed there. It is right outside the Alamo but there was heavy construction. Not that I blame the hotel for that. I wouldn't stay here again. They may not have resort fees but this is getting out of hand.

Yelp
Great view! Not too expensive. Great customer service. They provided me a late check out I desperately needed. The Bartender was extremely accommodating. There was a lot of traffic outside my room on the 14th floor at night I couldn't understand. I found out the next day from the doorman that it was likely because my room was one of the most haunted in the hotel!! We all have our ghosts, glad I didn't see theirs!!

Yelp
I was in town for a concert that was up the road. The photos online of the hotel are not accurate, I brushed it off because realistically we would hardly be in the room (just to sleep). However, a few minutes later we were rudely met with not just one but three baby cock roaches in the room. We immediately grabbed our belongings (thankfully nothing had been unpacked yet, last thing we want is to have our items infested) and walked out of the room. After witnessing other guests having difficulties with the front desk when checking in, I decided it was not worth my time to fight over a cancelation and refund. We booked a room right up the road at a Hilton hotel, which was spectacular. I attempted contacting Red Roof Inn PLUS through email, so hopefully they at least refund us and treat their rooms for cock roaches.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying this is a beautiful hotel. But 5 star it is not. If you like the room freezing, then you're in for a treat. There is no way to control the air. There is a "thermostat" but it's for show only and to tell you the temp. We informed them that the suit never shutoff and that it was 61° in our room. An engineer came up and did something. When we returned to our room that night it was 85° in our room. A new engineer told us that it was an either/or situation. Take it cold or take it hot. We opted for cold. I suppose we angered the A/C because it decided to and growl at us s very early in the morning. The staff was verbally empathetic and offered a certificate for a free night to come back but we have no desire to experience a 1 star hotel at 5 star prices, even for free,

Yelp
Honestly I'm surprised to see the Yelp ratings. To be fair Yelpers have let me down recently.... I emailed Kole and let him know we were visiting as we are here for my hubby's 30th! My hubby was very surprised at the detail in making his birthday weekend so special. He had a little gift of chocolates, plus some truffles and a basket full of goodies. Kole's communication was also very kind- he told us to drive safely and even gave recommendations on clothes to bring per the colder than normal temperatures. We are without a doubt going to come back in the future and let our friends/family know to come here when they visit San Antonio! Such attention to detail and hospitality. P.S. our view is literally the Alamo in perfect walking distance from the San Antonio hot spots! Also it's apparently haunted so there's that!

Yelp
Attended a conference at the convention center and stayed here. It's right across the street from the Alamo. Convention center is 10 minute walk and riverwalk is was walk as well. The rooms are really large. Bit older for sure and could use some sprucing up. Bathroom wasn't super clean as I saw hair and stuff behind toilet. When I arrived shower head did not work however they did change that out quickly. The sink didn't drain the best. I am also so tired of hotels no longer during room service after pandemic. Giving less quality service and charging the same or more. You have to request service 24 hours in advance which is crazy to me. I honestly wasn't aware of the history of this hotel prior to staying lol. Luckily on that front everything was good haha.

Yelp
We loved our stay! My toddler son loved the oversized shower/tub to say the least! We were able to fit his tub in the tub. Room was very comfortable and clean, views were beautiful, fridge was very useful to store milk, fruits, and yogurts. Loved the ambiance...the smell of clean welcomes you to every floor and room. The warm welcome cookies were delectable!!! Everyone is very friendly and nice. The valet parking was a plus! Thank you Nick and staff

Yelp
Just realize you're basically just paying for location. The sign in the lobby says the hotel was remodeled around 12 years ago...and it shows in the rooms. The lobby is nice, the rooms are old and worn. The light switch faceplates are loose and coming off. The plumbing fixtures are loose and feel like they might come off. The furniture is scuffed and worn. The thermostat in the room is an illusion. If you change the setting, it does nothing. There is likely a central thermostat somewhere in the building you can't change. The TV is small and crappy and the remote has a hard time working with it. There are much nicer hotels nearby for similar price. I'd stay at one of those next time.

Yelp
We had a lovely experience this trip. I loved receiving the texts from the hotel checking in on our stay. Very help and so accommodating. Jay M Isaiah took care of our valet needs and was awesome. He made sure our car was ready for us quickly. Angela took great care of us as well.

Yelp
Stayed here while attending an event in the hotel. So from a couple different angles this review comes Staff during check in was great Carlos made sure I had what I needed and helped make sure my member numbers and benefits were taken care of. The room itself was extremely big and the bathrooms had a huge deep tub and updated amenities. The hotel location was directly across the street from the Alamo and a short stroll to the Riverwalk. Having a meeting in the hotel we were greeted with coffee both iced and hot. Water and light fare to start the day. Lunch was a great buffet. Staff was attentive and made cleanup during a working lunch. If I end up in San Antonio again I will be staying there.

Yelp
Stayed here overnight on a trip east. Needed a pet friendly hotel and booked this one. The rooms were fine, nothing impressive. But overall it's a cool, historical hotel, and literally a stones throw to the Alamo. For dogs like mine that need grass to do their business, you'll need to walk a block or so to Travis park or toward the Riverwalk past the Alamo.

Yelp
Staff excellent and helpful. Property is VERY tired. As a Hilton Diamond member I don't consider this property to be up to the standard expected of a Hilton Doubletree property! Needs a serious renovation.

Yelp
Do not use valet at this hotel!! When last weekend and spent the weekend here. Hotel doesn't have any parking so only option is to valet. The valet guys damaged my vehicle and the hotel manager claimed the valet company has nothing to do with them conveniently and was no help. Made a claim with the valet company only to be denied immediately. The hotel or the valet company will not help you or do anything when they damage your vehicle. AVOID this place or find parking elsewhere!!

Yelp
Most Double Tree's are pretty high end and comfortable and this one is no exception. There's some history to this hotel and it's been here awhile I believe. That being said, it's modern and the rooms are decent sized. I think the best thing about this hotel is the location though. It is literally across the street from the Alamo and isn't a far walk to the River Walk which I think is a must see if you are visiting San Antonio as well the Alamo. The staff here was very polite and nice. My only complaint was the elevators were a bit slow.
