The hostel doesn't have many short-term guests. Most of the guests are friendly, welcoming, and helpful, like a family. We had a very interesting experience. Please note that double rooms do not include private restrooms; they share a toilet and bathroom.

There is this old lady called Fiona who cleans the kitchen and lives upstairs in her own room provided by the hostel and she talks about residents' personal stuff as " this kiwi guy has his wife and three kids in Newzealand but wants a relationship from another woman in perth. .." "this indonesian girl's father is a gambler... and she wants to marry an aussie . . .she is over 30 and acts like a girl . .." this is some of what she said to me and I decided not to share too much about my personal details cause she would be sharing with someone else in the end .This lady doesnt seem to regard hostel her work so much and she goes to Beaty park-swimming pool when she needed to attend the kitchen for cleaning for example and always engages and interferes with hostel people in a private manner. She doesn't have any right to work as a security person-and pretends and tries to miss use her staff position. In one incidents involve myself which I was in a conversation with a guy who made noises at night while myself trying to sleep for my flight at4am . we try to figure out our misunderstanding but this staff came over angrily saying "he's my customer ,you don't talk to him or I will have you removed here by security " and she was not giving any seconds for me say things while she was breaching the hostel security rule for herself against me forcing me same thing overand over agin with her loudest voice and myself and other resident were just agitated cause we just might have raised our voices a bit but not as loud and mad as her .I just did not talk back to her cause she was yelling at me and when she finished herself throwing all her anger at me left us in the courtyard and me and the guy made up and understood each other that he apologised being too loud with couple of beer and I also apologised him not asking him to be quiteter in mire polite way We are happy residents afterall but this old lady Fiona left a bitter sour taste by her unnecessry interfereance taking side of a man regarding only he is her customer and myself is not a hostel client at all. So moral lesson I learnt living here as FIFO Do not share your story with a staff like her. A desperate old woman who looks out for men and always praises men over women and act on her own favor like this old lady .

Unfortunately not the greatest experience I’ve had with hostels. The hostel is located in a dodgy area, especially at night (make sure you are not by yourself when it gets dark I’d say) Also, the staff was not very helpful with changing my booking and there was no information laid out upon arrival.

Male staff behaved confrontational with female in female dorm while she was eating candy in bed and threatened to kick her out over eating candy in bed. No communication prior about food eating rules in a room with a fridge, pantry and dining table, but apparently there is a rule against eating in rooms. If you want to be at the mercy of unjust powerless striver staff members and a careless owner stay here.

The most disgusting hostel I’ve stayed in. As in physically dirty and gross. The carpets in the rooms look like they’ve never been hoovered and the mattresses had all sort of weird stains. The top bunks have no railings and the door to our room doesn’t shut properly. No staff around so self check in which wasn’t ideal either.

Hello, I am very disappointed with this hostel because there were cockroaches in my room. There were lots of them climbing all over the place, especially where there was food (logical). In addition, there are a few other negative points to note, not the least of which are the single-glazed windows overlooking the Korean restaurant on the first floor. You have to close the shutters because otherwise everyone can see you, especially at night, and you can hear outside as if there were no window. The shower whistles in the pipes and it's unbearable when you shower if you don't put your hand on the right opening. On top of that, it leaks! You have to use both hands to turn it off and at the same time work your hands off, otherwise it won't stop. Oh, and there's also the door that lets in all the light at night with a gaping hole underneath, so you can hear everything behind it. I know it's a hostel but you're paying and you deserve to be treated with a minimum of humanity, even if it means paying for a minimum service. At that level, you might as well be sleeping rough! That's it! It's a pity for my arrival in Australia to come across this type of hostel...

Great location, excellent if you want to stay in city center but other services completely awkward. In one week, kitchen most of the time dirty. Bathroom full of cucarachas. Unbelievable. Shower ok. Rooms with air con that’s was good but shared place no cleaned. Bins always full of trash. For the location and the price is ok, but be aware of what you are finding.

Advertise afterhours check in however they left the wrong key for my dorm and the key the room opened was completely full. Nowhere to sleep and the afterhours number on their emails and plastered around the hostel just rings out. Very disappointed, I think I'll have to be sleeping on the couch in the common area tonight, which, obviously, doesn't feel safe for myself as a young woman.

Yelp
At first I was torn between staying here and somewhere along Newscastle Street, but boy am I glad I chose the Emperor's Crown! This place had everything I was looking for to make my experience in Perth worth repeating a second time. The rooms were clean and decent in size, as well as the full kitchen. You could use the free Wi-Fi from any room in the building, but of course it was the strongest in the lobby. However the main focus of this hostel was the variety of in house activities. There's a large open area in the main lobby that stretches out to a long outdoor patio for parties and social gatherings. Then there were TWO movie viewing rooms! A projection screen room on the first floor and a TV room/library on the 2nd floor. The best part about this place was the vibe. I stayed there for 2 weeks, and the overall social tone to this place stayed light and friendly. Very easy to make friends and travel buddies! There's weren't many ragers happening in the actual hostel, but that was because it just made more sense to take advantage of the pub scene just 1 block north. The staff were there for your needs and also helped with setting up tours and other such activities around Perth and the WA. The Emperor's Crown gave me a bright outlook on Perth. I had no idea what to expect of this town, and staying the right hostel can truly make all the difference!

Yelp
This place was such a wonderful reprieve towards the end of our trip. We stayed in 5 different hostels over the course of about three weeks, Perth being at the tail end. This is the first time I saw a bathtub or a REAL BED (rather than a weird foam square on a squeaky bunk) for three weeks! It was like being in HEAVEN. We had a private ensuite, and it was no different from a basic hotel room. I nearly wept with joy. It was clean and very roomy, they even provided little towels and soaps just like a hotel. I have no problem roughin' it, but man does it feel good when you unexpectedly get a space like this to stay in and rest your weary bad back. The people at the front desk were friendly, the social area was downstairs so the noise level was no problem at all unless you were actually down there. The whole place was clean and easy to navigate, and it was just a short little trot to the downtown area. I can't say enough nice things about it, I would never stay anywhere else if I came back to Perth.
